Beautiful rustic hotel with amazing view of the Loire River. I truly felt like I was back in time. I was a bit surprised by the self check in, but figured it out. The hotel restaurant was nice, and many restaurants are a quarter mile walk into town. Excellent breakfast.

Captivated by the historical significance of the property regarding Joan of Arc and the Battle of Orleans. Late booking had us 57 narrow stairs up in a non-air conditioned room which did not excite my husband but it overlooked the river and the moon view compensated all that for me.

Staying in an old fortified property dating back to the 100 years war with stunning views from the bedroom of the Loire river was definitely a unique experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely.

The relais is a unique historic property in a quiet town along the beautiful Loire River. The staff appeared kind on the surface. The bathroom in the room was clean. On check in we pointed out that the curtains on our room, in the front corner of the hotel, facing the street, did not close. We were told the market was not open and they had nothing in their hotel to fix it. We used hair bands for the first night and on day 2 nothing was done to remedy the curtains. The windows and curtains were also filthy. The lights next on the left side of the bed did not work. There was also a book on the desk with mildly pornographic material and we were travelling with children. The breakfast buffet was well picked over at 9am and we had to find a staff person to ask it to be restocked. We asked to check out of a 3-night reservation after the 2nd night. Orbitz said it would handle it. When we did not hear back from Orbitz the next morning, the staff advised they had agree with Orbitz we would pay the hotel directly and Orbitz would refund us. After 2 weeks we have paid for 5 nights, but only stayed 2 in a crappy hotel. I'm disappointed with both my service from the hotel and Orbitz. I have spoken with multiple Orbitz staff but they say they are waiting on the hotel to confirm. I have provided receipts and the management of the Relais is refusing to contact Orbitz according to them. Either the hotel or Orbitz is trying to steal my money. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Beautiful location by the Loire River. Historic building. Great service, loved the friendliness of the staff. Restaurant served a delicious dinner in great atmosphere by the river. The town of Meung itself is a hidden gem, well preserved Medieval buildings, not crowded, pretty little canals. Well worth a visit off the beaten path.

Great Authentic Hotel in a Stunning Location

Chance booking, as we wanted to split up our journey and we were blown away by the location. Right on the Loire river bank with stunning views, very peaceful and tranquil. The Hotel was beautifully restored maintaining a lot of the original features inc wooden beams, floors with the modernisation of bathrooms but in keeping with the period building. Short walk into the village centre where we found nice restaurants/bars. Staff were really friendly and accommodating and we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. We will be returning next time in France

Short of the mark despite the wonderful setting

The building itself is gorgeous and the setting right on the river fantastic. Inside it is very run down - beware the stairs particularly which are steep and slippery. The receptionist was very helpful. The restaurant runs separately from the hotel so expect to pay separately. Both stunned me by adding heavy extras to the bill - for example the restaurant had an extra 20% and an extra 10% - and the hotel 10% which adds a lot to the expected costs. I thought it was very overpriced as a result

Lovely old building

This is a historic coaching inn situated right on the banks of the Loire. It has been completely renovated but retains an air of living in a castle. Our room was a good size with a seating area and well supplied with toiletries, etc. The whole place looks well maintained. The hotel is built around a courtyard, with a pond and ramparts! It's just a 5 minute walk along the river into the old town. Plenty of free parking right outside. There is a restaurant but we didn't use this so can't comment. Wifi is free but a bit slow.

I was very cross when I came to leave the hotel as they tried to charge me more than I had been billed from yourself, saying it was a computer error !! this hotel was already expensive for one at 204.00 euros for the night.
WE also got charged for breakfast the coffee machine didn't work, this hotel advertises that it a luxury hotel but its far from it the gardens are very tired and not kept up to, the rooms and not very clean this is such a shame because it could be a wonderful hotel very disappointed with my stay. This was supposed to be a treat at the end of a holiday but sadly wasn't.

One night stay

The hotel is in a beautiful location and right on the outskirts of the town so you can walk in.
Out stay was pleasant. We ate in the restaurant and the food was good. It's worth checking if anything else is open in town to give you another option for dinner as it is expensive.
Our room was very spacious with lovely views unfortunately it did have an awful smell from the drains and wasn't particularly clean.

Fantastic building in an exceptional position

This property is a fabulous old building in an exceptional position. Unfortunately the management did not provide enough staff. We arroved at 8.30 and was told the kitchen closed at 9 so we dropped our cases in the room that had a bath but no shower and went immediately to the restaurant. The poor waiter was running around like a scene from fawlty towers and we eventually received 2 beers and a menu at 9,30. 20 minutes later our meal order was taken and miraculously 2 minutes later the food arrived !

A most amazing hotel

This was one of our last stays on a combined anniversary and big birthday trip in France. Everything about the hotel was superb - service, style, comfort, location and cleanliness. I had requested in advance a room on the ground or first floor, as my wife is rather claustrophobic. At first the owner took us to a second floor room, which was beautiful but rather small and high up. When I mentioned my request, the owner explained that it had not been passed on to him, and immediately showed us to the most amazing room on the first floor. It would normally have been twice the price, but he allowed us to stay there at no extra cost. In the morning, the tables inside the restaurant were laid for breakfast, but when we asked if it was possible to eat outside by the river on their veranda (then laid for lunch, as we soon realised) as it was such a beautiful morning, he unhesitatingly cleared the lunch cutlery and relaid the table for our breakfast. When we left, he even came out to the car to see us off. It was all a magical, outstanding experience.

You'll need to do so to stay at the tres charmante Relais Louis XI Hotel, an experience you won't want to miss. This historic hotel offers the best of French comfort, cuisine, and service in a setting that takes you back to the time of Joan of Arc. In fact, she led the battle that freed the town of Meung-sur-Loire in June 1429; the commemorative sign hangs on the front of the hotel. From the heavy wooden carriage door and entry archway to the tower, and from the walled garden to the whitewashed stone walls and wooden staircase, this is a place that makes history come alive. We were enchanted to have our breakfast in a bright and ancient room overlooking both the river and the courtyard. We stayed in the Le Lys room, which is tastefully furnished and has a charming view of the river; the bed was as comfortable as we've ever felt. The only reason we did not rate the room's comfort at 5 is that the window screens had not yet been put up for the season, so bugs prevented us from leaving the window open all night. Otherwise, we would have fallen asleep to the sounds of the river tumbling over rocks just below our window. As it was, we spent the early morning watching birds on the water and a determined beaver swimming upstream as we sat by our open window. (And in fairness to the hotel, we stayed on an unseasonably warm night in early April, so the windows are probably screened in typical warm weather.) The staff was attentive and helpful: a cleaning woman graciously insisted on carrying one of our bags downstairs when we were leaving, then disappeared before we could tip her, and a gardener who did not speak English still managed to show us around the grounds, even leaving the main garden to come around on the side street to show us where to pose for pictures, which he took for us. There is a river walk just outside the hotel grounds. Be sure to take a walk at night to see the stars. And leave time to stroll around the medieval town of Meung-sur-Loire during the day. The only negatives about Relais Louis XI are that dinner is not served 7 nights a week and that the drives on the street below can be noisier than you might expect for a small town. But these are small issues when compared to the many pluses of this jewel of a hotel.

Chambre privilège très spacieuse donnant une vue splendide sur la Loire. Cependant les équipement sont très fatigués, ventilateur bruyant, literie usée, salle de bain aux accessoires premiers prix, notamment pommeau et flexible, taches noircies sur le carrelage de la douche et calcaire plein le robinet le tout dans une décoration violine d’un autre temps.
Au delà de ça, le lieu est charmant et le personnel très sympathique et accueillant.

Globalement le lieu est magnifique mais l’entretien des extérieurs et des chambres laisse à désirer

Pour le prix élevé, nous payons surtout la vue et l emplacement. Deux étages sans ascenceur avec escalier, pour porter les bagages = pas top. Absence de plateau de courtoisie et de chauffage (actif) dans la chambre et salle de bain ( il faut se contenter d un chauffage d appoint) . Le 3eme lit ne bénéficie pas d appoint lumineux. Robinet de salle de bain qui fuit. Vitres sales. Le prix du petit déjeuner est élevé et moins bien diversifié par rapport à d autres structures de même gamme. Je rejoins les autres commentaires qui disent que l établissement gagnerait à être rafraichi.

O quarto era amplo, cama confortável e limpo . A casa de banho fica dentro do quarto e ao tomar banho a água cai facilmente para fora da banheira
algumas das tomadas não funcionavam
A chave foi deixadas na recepção para levantarmos . O hotel anuncia internet mas não foi deixado código de acesso
O restaurante anunciado não pertence ao hotel e no dia da estadia estava reservado ( mas sem indicação no exterior)
Não aconselhável para pessoas com dificuldades de locomoção pois tem muitas escadas
Valeu para uma noite e pela vista envolvente

La chambre avait une vue magnifique sur la Loire. J'ai pu me détendre et marcher le long du fleuve. Après une journée intense, c'est un moment de détente que j'ai appréciée. Cette halte a eu un vrai effet pour reprendre des forces et attaquer une nouvelle journée intense.

Eigentlich ein tolles Anwesen, wenn es nicht an der einen oder anderen Stelle (für den Preis) etwas zu shabby wäre. Die Rezeption ist toll bestückt und sehr nett. Das Personal des angebundenen Restaurants könnte etwas professioneller sein. Das Essen ist aber toll. Die Zimmer sind 'interessant', aber für meinen persönlichen Geschmack zu schmuddelig. Länger als die eine Nacht wollte ich in diesem Zimmer (301) nicht bleiben. Vom Zustand des Bades abgesehen, war die ganze Nacht eine nicht abschaltbare Lüftung zu hören. Schade eigentlich, man könnte mehr daraus machen. Den Preis war das Zimmer nicht wert.

Le cadre est magnifique (bâtisse et bord de Loire). Mais l’état général de notre chambre était long du rendu des photos. Sans parler de la montée d’escalier pour accéder à notre chambre.
