This place was absolutely amazing. Our little bungalow was steps away from the beach next to the tilted palm tree next to the ocean. We came at the end of October and it was low season so very few people were around. It made for a very relaxing stay. The pool was great, it was gigantic and an infinity pool that looked out over the ocean. Very relaxing to swim there at night. There are two or three different restaurants at the entrance to the hotel as well as a 7-Eleven. In case you needed to grab anything. The location is kind of far away from nightlife if that's what you're looking for. The beach made up for it though, it was beautiful and warm. Sunrises were amazing. The only downfall to this hotel is the lack of lighting on the pathways. It didn't feel like it was lighted enough with all the steps that are involved. This place is built along a hillside and you will be going up and down a hill to go anywhere. My wife liked it so much she wants to plan our kids future wedding there!

Disappointed with lighting in the room. Although the staff gave us an extra lamp it appears this was the only room missing the chandelier. As a gold member, I would have expected a better room than the one staff gave us especially given our stay was for 5 days. The resort was in a good spot with private beach etc. Needs a bit of a revamp, fresh paint, tidier rooms, better lighting etc.

Jay and her team were outstanding. They made our stay at New Star pleasant. The breakfast buffet was good and of course the service was on point. The bar and pool area are also very nice and well managed. Good food and drinks and well-priced for a hotel.
The property is set up well and everything is a short walk away however the rooms are dated. We had a villa which was probably beautiful at some point but it needs renovating particularly the bathroom. The shower was terrible. The water pressure was very weak and the temperature wouldn’t stay constant. The sink area felt old and unclean (it looked clean and I’m sure the staff did their best). The shower gel and shampoo were ok but there was no body lotion. The old style room key made it so we we couldn’t leave the AC on while out of the room because we had to take it with us and this would switch off the electricity. So we would come back to a scorching room that would take 20-30mins to cool off.

The highlight was breakfast with an excellent range of both Thai and Western cuisine complemented by friendly and attentive staff. The swimming pool is quite large with varying depths and never crowded. The beach is kept clean with some shaded areas.
Unfortunately our room revealed some examples of maintenance neglect. Daily housekeeping is inconsistent when providing a clean, complete set of towels. One air conditioning unit to cool the bedroom area does not reach other areas of the bungalow which can become quite hot (perhaps consider the addition of a fan in the bathroom). Separate information about what television channels (and languages) are available would be helpful.

Really wanted to write a negstive review for New Star Resort, just to keep people from discovering this somewhat hidden gem....but I just couldn't do it. This resort was exactly what I was looking for when booking to Koh Samui. A liitle south of the main city area, so away from the crowds and much quieter, but not too far for quick transportation. The resort itself was ideal. I had a bugalow room 30 m. from the beach. Long walkable beach either direction. 5 star hotels on either side, but you're not paying 5 star prices, for the same strip of beach.
Entire staff were super friendly and helpful. (I know everone seems to say that but I've stayed at two other locations on this trip and while the were okay to good in terms if service, neither were up to New Star level.) Love this place!

Lovely hotel for a relaxing beach / pool holiday

Lovely hotel on a quiet stretch of beautiful beach. The pool area is only a couple of steps up from the beach. Plenty of sun beds for everyone so you could move around during the day.
Service is great with the delivered to your sunbed, happy hour cocktails being a real selling point.
Breakfast is an excellent buffet catering for international/ all tastes.
Hotel is set out through ‘tropical gardens and are mainly low rise blocks - rooms are large with an indoor and outdoor shower and decent air conditioning.
Centre of Chaweng is a short taxi ride or hotel shuttle bus ride away but not an issue - there’s a taxi station at the front gate.
I have to mention the security people at the front gate who made you feel special every time you passed with their generous salute and protective assistance in helping you to cross the road or calling a taxi.
We had a great time here and I’d recommend it,

We stayed in separate cottages which were spacious, private, and quiet. Grounds were beautifully manicured and the resort is situated on a beautiful beach for lounging on and swimming. The daily included breakfasts offered hot and cold dishes - very beautifully done! We were very happy with everything about this resort.

The mattress is very uncomfortable, some parts sink in and obviously, it is overly used and need to change new one.

Hotel staff are friendly and very polite.

Location is ok. To go to the shopping district, one has to take a cab there and it costs 300 bahts.

Going to th airport is 500 bahts.

This is not a full service resort. I called them to set up a transfer for me and they said I can take a taxi from airport once I landed. They gave me a room that was not what was promised. Hotels.com just gave me the run around. I left after check in. The hotel needs maintenance all over property. Service is non existence. Stay away from this property. I stayed at the Briza beach resort. Great service better prices.

Overpriced and underwhelming

There is very little to say about this hotel that is positive. Reception staff were great and the guard at the front was also friendly.

The bad.

The rest of the staff are entirely disinterested. Room was dirty with hairs left everywhere in the bathroom. Housekeeping was until 3:30 - 4 each day.

I stayed in the private pool villa which had rotten decking and exposed rusted nails. Was meant to have a seaview but that wasn't the case. The pool is not at all private because it has large cutouts where neighbouring villas can see straight in.

Breakfast was absolutely disgusting and on the two occasions i ate there it was surrounded by people smoking. On one occasion i sat down to have breakfast at 10:15 and was basically kicked out by the rude staff.

Overall this is a horrible hotel and i would strongly urge you to stay somewhere else.

My email to management with my concerns was left unresolved.

Very nice stay in the hotel

We stayed cottage near by the pool and sea. It's was really close to just 1-2 mins we can go to the pool and sea. The sea is so clear and shallow that you can enjoy with you children. If you want to enjoy　snorkeling, I recommend to join the snorkeling tour. Throughout the whole thing, I am very satisfied.

This resort has great amenities and a quiet beach perfect for relaxing. The pool is refreshing and the rooms are comfortable and modern. It's quick drive to Chewang Beach where all the action is, so make it a point to check out the nightlife and restaurants because the area has a lot to offer, even though you don't get a good feel for it st the resort.

During our stay at this hotel, we have not experienced any hospitality from staffs. When I requested several simple demands to the reception staffs by internal line, they always answered \" Yes, sure\" but never responded until I visited the reception desk directly and requested again. When we had morning buffet in the restaurant, server's concern is only to put the dishes away, so they took our dishes and cups away even not fished yet. The location of hotel is good but we were very disappointed at the manner of those staffs, thus we won't visit this hotel again.

Great resort, but not worth the money

Stayed in a private pool villa for 4 nights. It's a great resort in a good location, and is far enough away from Chaweng to be quiet and peaceful, but not too far.
The pool villa was nice and is located towards the beach front. The room was clean and had all of the amenities you could need. The only downside was the pool. I booked the room based on having a private pool. The pool was not really private, as it had 3 large windows around it, and the pool was only waist deep. There were no beach style chairs to lay down on next to it. So we really didn't use the pool.
Staff were nice and helpful. Breakfast was ok, but not great. The resort has scooters for hire which are an excellent way to explore the island, and much cheaper than taxis etc.
Some parts of the resort feel a bit run down and in need of an update. One thing to note is that the hotel is on a hill, so if you have bad knees or any other mobility problem, you might find it challenging moving around the place.
Overall it's a great resort, but for the kind of dollars you are spending, you would expect something special. This place doesn't have it.

I love this hotel

The cabinet is wonderful, jsut walk 30 secs to the beach (not all the rooms, but other room shall be okay, guess 2 mins for farest room). Staff is nice, we also rent a motorbike from hotel, it's very convient, only 10 mins ride could arrive Chaweng street, the beach is also wonderful, clean. In summary, it's a good hotel for couple and family to stay.

Resort is beautiful and perfect for a relaxing getaway. Beach, pool and grounds are stunning. Food and drinks aren't great, but breakfast was great, big selection of food. Happy hour beachfront is a nice feature. Massage beachside also great. Vendors available at beach for shopping and fruits and corn. Games offered by the pool. A little far from town and market, at least a 15-20 minute taxi ride.

A little piece of paradise!!

We picked this location because we wanted to be a bit away from the crazy party scene that we had read about in many reviews and this place was perfect! Although we were not far from the busy part of the island, it felt like we were a world away!! Gorgeous beach, beautiful pool, fantastic food, great massages, very helpful and friendly staff and just a 10 minute taxi to the busy night life area. Could not have been more perfect!! The restaurant manager was fantastic and he says that it is due to his staff - but I have to give him credit for being the leader to sets the tone!!

be ready to see some ducks around, we had a big laugh at the beginning and then got used to it, does not matter much and makes it funny.
Our reason to select this resort was mainly for a combination of beach (no rocks), location (not too far and not too close from busy areas), good resort and good price.
We were upgraded to a villa with sea view, right in front of the sea. It was spacious, well equiped, clean, and had big windows, great to enjoy the view, but other guests could see us inside, at day and night time, not the best for privacy. We had to close the curtains constantly.
The breakfast was diverse enough to accommodate guests from all around the world and quality was OK, it could be improved but honestly speaking, we had this same quality in all resorts we stayed at in Thailand.
The hotel's employees were professional. English could be improved, but we were still able to communicate.

a bit expensive for what you get

we had 5 nights at the hotel, and had fun for 4 days and nights- nice pool and beach, nice big room (we stayed at the villa), nice breakfast. in the last night we had dinner at the buffet (850 baht per person- a bit pricy for thailand) the food wasn't very good, the staff started to fold the food and tables while we where there and we got charged way too much for the drinks (140 baht for lemonade for ex.) eventhough nobody told us the drinks are not included in the price. we complained about it at the restaurant and at the front desk, but they didnt really cared, which was dissapointing...

New Star Beach Resort was fantastic! The staff were one of the best things about it plus the location. We stayed in a beach front villa as it was our honeymoon & the staff made as feel so welcomed & like it was our home. Absolutely stunning! Easy access to everythjng at the resort & a huge room. Plenty of cupboard space, a nice sitting area, outside shower (plus an inside shower & bath). Would love to come back for a visit. Can't recommend this resort enough.

Wonderful staff and great location

The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. The general manager even invited all guests to a little complimentary happy hour sort of thing so that he could introduce his staff to us and make sure everyone was enjoying their stay. Granted, this was during the low season, so I can't guarantee the level of service would be the same if the resort was at full capacity.

The location is hard to beat on Ko Samui. It's far enough removed from the heart of Chaweng Beach that you'd never know there was a wild party scene up there, but it's close enough that it's easily accessible via a short taxi ride. Also close to Lamai Beach, which is supposed to be very beautiful, although we didn't get to visit during daylight.

Oh yeah, and this is easily a 4-5 star level resort and comes with all the amenities. The one warning I'll offer is that you'll do a fair amount of walking up stairs and/or steep grades, especially if you're not in a beachfront room/suite and/or you plan on leaving the resort each day. Not a far distance, just sort of steep, with no elevators or escalators. Wasn't a problem for us, but could be for those who are less mobile.

Great hotel on an excellent beach.

Excellent beach with great views but may not suit older people as it can be a little steep in places. Beach sellers are well behaved and only directly approach you if you invite them to- a simple shake of the head, or no eye contact and they stay away. The pool is warm and well extremely clean and well maintained.
The rooms are large and well maintained. Starting to show the age in a few places, but still quite neat.
Staff are very attentive and friendly, nothing is too much trouble.
Breakfast is fresh and plentiful, lunch and dinner by the pool is very enjoyable.

Lay on the beach all day, dinner and shopping in the cool of the evening, tomorrow, breakfast, beach, shopping.... doesn't get much more relaxing.
Don't miss the night market at Bophut on a Friday night!

Booked a cottage, nice room but air con was abysmal and very noisy needs upgrading, We had no aircond for first night of our stay. Also breakfast could have been a lot better if more attention was paid to presentation. Aircon at breakfast room also need upgrading, would hate to have been there in high season.High points one of the best swimming beach in Koh samui, fantastic pool. had a great thai night on beach excellent food and value for money.All staff need training in English, very poor for standard of hotel. Would be a great hotel if management attended to maintenance a lot of cottages and hand rails need painting.Stay here only if you get a good deal because you wont get a better beach or pool.

Amazing resort - highly recommend!

This resort is amazing. I would recommend it to anyone, but especially to couples seeking a romantic location slightly away from the business of Chaweng. The rooms are modern and impressively sized. You cannot see into anyone else room, villa or cottage from your own room, ensuring complete privacy. The staff are all very friendly and they ensure that you have an excellent stay.

Great experience at the hotel overall. When I was there the beach water was too rough to get into, but the pool made for a fine replacement.

Pros:
- Great pool
- Room itself is quite nice
- Generally excellent breakfast diversity
- The staff is great overall

Cons:
- They allow you to pay in US$ but best to pay credit card based on their conversion.
- Ran out of the less generic breakfast food during busy days.
- Thai massage was not authentic. I would opt not to get this service here.
- A staff member indicated they charged for internet use on the shared computers, which seemed silly as the hotel had free wi-fi.

We spent 3 days in this hotel in Koh Samui, and we were coming already from another 5 star hotel, expecting more from New Star, maybe because we were paying more. Big dissapointment when we found the bed is like a stone-hard, i dont understand how such expensive hotel dont buy better beds for its guests, and basicly all was overpriced comparing to other hotels we already know in the island of similar characteristics. Good points on breakfast, that was excellent and the service was also good. Location excellent as well. But not enough to return to this hotel.

Great hotel. Few problems. Only one key which works electrics and airconditioning. When you go out airconditioning goes off so you walk back into stinking hot hotel. Took much persistance and 2 days to get additional key. Charge additional for internet. Only 3 bottles of water complimentary a day not enough for 3 people. Food good, location good.

This was a totally relaxing experience from the moment we arrived,(cool drink on arrival), being driven to our room and flowers and fruit in the room on arrival. The food was excellent, 3 themed evenings, BBQ by the beach or Thai evening at the poolside plus a stesk night. Rooms were huge with good air con and minibar. The beach was beautifully clean and quiet and only a short walk to the main Chaweng beach and shopping. Staff could not do enough for you. The new hotel building work was not noisy amnnd did not spoil our enjoyment. Due for completion in 2010. Would go back again.

Leider kein SPA und Massagen. Personal spricht schlecht englisch. Alles wird zusätzlich belastet auch late check out. Taxi relativ teuer ins Zentrum. Hotel bietet keinen Gratis Shuttle ins Zentrum an was zum Beispiel jede halbe Stunde möglich wäre. Zimmer ok sauber und ruhig. Fitness leider sehr spärlich und Crosstrainer in die Jahre gekommen. Öffnungszeiten ebenfalls sehr kurz 7-19 uhr. Frühstück fehlt gesunde Alternative wie Mandelmilch, Nüsse, Kokosnuss Jogurth ohne Zucker, etc. Nichts für Leute die auf gesundes Essen achten. Gibt auch im Restaurant eher Chunk Food kein Brauner Reis, Quinoa, Tofu etc. Strand schön. Anlage etwas in die Jahre gekommen und vieles wie Spa, Massagen geschlossen. Auch gibt es kein Yoga oder so. Schade! Nichts für gesundheitsbewusste sportliche Leute.

Vi hade det fint

Vi hade det väldigt bra. Vi bodde i beach villan, och den var stor och bra med två fungerande AC (dock högt ljud). Fin terass mot havet och egna reserverade solstolar. Nära till alla faciliteter. Bra massage, ok gym och bra frukost. Lite jobbigt bara med kön till kaffemaskiner och ägg-kocken. Stranden fin, men lite sträv. Inte den finkorniga stranden. Lagom med försäljare, och trevliga. Personalen trevliga för det mesta.

Nous avons séjourné dans le bungalow, la chambre est superbe avec une belle terrasse et une magnifique salle de bain. La piscine, les espaces extérieurs et la plage privée sont superbes. Hôtel haut de gamme avec un personnel disponible et accueillant. Un peu loin à pied des restaurants de Chaweng, prévoir un budget taxi ou moyen de locomotion. Moustiques présents le soir.

Very nice resort, super friendly staff, very clean, great restaurant by the beach. Great service, great mix of Thai and Western food, and great drinks. Supernice infinity pool, and Chaweng Noi is a very nice family friendly beach. Great for small kids.

This is my fifth stay, my decision speaks for itself. I received a warm welcome as always. The experience this time is again absolutely flawless in all aspects, including catering, accommodation, housekeeping, facilities, staff etc. What attracted me the most is the seclusion and tranquility of the sandy beach right at the front of the Resort, where you could spend the whole day in a hassle-free style. For food, easy to find outside of the Resort as there are s couple of restaurants on the main road. Having said that, the in-house dining is of an excellent quality. I will definitely be back again.

部屋も綺麗でバスタブもあり、広々と使えました。
プールも綺麗で海も近く、とても満足です。
ハッピーアワーがお昼にあるのも良く、一杯分のお値段で二杯いただけます。また、食事も美味しいので毎回ランチはプールサイドでたべました。
また来たいホテルです。

In paradise

I have traveled alone for 5 days in Koh Samui and I stayed at New Star Beach Resort. From the time I checked into the hotel until I had to check out, I met smiling and caring staff. Huge large room with a very good climate facility. Very good breakfast. And white sand beach. The beach bar and restaurant were lovely stylish. You feel that you have ended up in paradise. Finally, I can say they have the best coffee I've had in Thailand. I already plan to come back here this November. Thanks for everything.
