Location is amazing, staff very welcoming and helpful. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were too flimsy. There's no kettle and no hand soap at the sink very basic and someone both nights was moving furniture around for 4 hours in the evenings.

The staff was great and they provided a nice breakfast. Good walkable location to shops and transportation. Only negatives were that the rooms are definitely NOT soundproof (and there was all day construction in the courtyard next door) and also the size of the bathroom was tiny even for Europe. Every shower the entire bathroom floor got wet. Compared to the other Thon hotels I have stayed at this one nicer but was not quite up to par.

I have stayed at this hotel several times as it is conveniently located near the station and has always offered good value for money. During my most recent trip and despite having the 'do not disturb' hanger on my room door - twice housekeeping entered my room and once whilst I was in the bathroom!
Also, every morning during my stay at about 5.30am staff are outside moving rubbish/glass bottles loudly about (I was on Floor 2) which woke me every morning - not the best start to the day.
I've never noticed it before but when dark, the hotel is not lit up outside and looks closed! The area is also a bit messy due to major building works taking place next door (another hotel I believe)
I may try a different hotel next time ...

I've never noticed it before but when dark, the hotel is not lit up outside and looks closed! The area is also a bit messy due to major building works taking place next door (another hotel I believe)

I stayed in a standard single room, which was very compact—just enough space to shower comfortably, and I’m not a big guy. That said, the room was spotless, with a good TV, fresh towels provided daily, and access to an ironing room on the third floor, which was a bonus for me.

However, this room turned out very noisy, since it overlooked the street, and was quite cramped. Again at our request, they moved us to a more spacious room facing a courtyard that was very quiet.

The room was very small (the bathroom particularly, knocked my elbows a couple of times lol) as we knew it would be from the description, but it was totally adequate for the overnight stay we needed it for. Perfect location for the train station, shopping area and a short walk down to the waterfront. We could have our complimentary breakfast (of which there was good choice and tasty) at half 7 and still make it to the train station for our 8:12 departure to Voss. Staff really friendly and efficient.

Thon hotel Astoria is very conveniently located in short walking distance from central train station, Opera house, harbour and city centre. Single room is tiny, but twin room was a bit better with some space for luggage and in bathroom. It is a Scandic design. There is no air conditioning, but you could open windows in the evening to get some air in. Breakfast had a good selection. There is a nice Italian restaurant accross the street.

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel! I was was totally prepared for the solo room (very tiny) and the bed was very comfortable. It was perfect for what I needed. Only reason it got four stars was bc there was no soap dispenser in the wash room for hands - there was in a different room on another stay - so I had to reach into the shower to use the wash in there every time!

Dishonest and Uncomfortable
We had pre-booked and prepaid through an outside booking agent. We had an in-flight medical emergency on our trip and half of our family had to deplane in another country. Knowing that our reservation was nonrefundable, I tried to check in to both rooms we had reserved because I had all the luggage for all 7 people in my family and 3 people with me. The staff denied my request and rebooked the second room for the next day when the rest of my family would arrive because they were overbooked on our arrival day. When I requested a refund through my booking company, citing I chose to check-in to both rooms and was denied, the hotel lied and said it was my choice to change the booking and refused a refund. The rooms are small and the AC doesn't work, making for a very uncomfortable stay when they cram 4 people to a room.

Convenient location downtown, but property to BOTH sides of the hotel were under heavy construction, making it impossible to get a quiet room. This was not disclosed prior to booking. Hallway noise was also an issue with how large the gap was at the bottom of the door. Due to construction fencing RIGHT at the front door, they had a temporary luggage ramp set up and was essentially just plywood; definitely too steep for a wheel chair if you needed one.

It was fine.... But, I thought it was very expensive for what it was. Tiny room and very basic decor for USD 200. It felt like it should be a c. USD 130 room. Maybe that's Oslo prices...
