Great location, beautiful entrance area too. Breakfast was in the Egon Restaurant which is beautifully designed like a train using ski chair lifts as seats. Would definitely recommend.

Room was tiny, we booked a family room, glad that we were travelling light and that we didn't have young children as no space in the room. Double bed was against a wall one side and about a foot away from the bunk beds. Bunk beds were old looking, chunks out of them.
Staff were friendly, and breakfast at the restaurant across the hall was nice enough.

The family room was small but fine for a quick city break. We really enjoyed the breakfast and the games in reception.
My main gripe was the debolical check in process, not sure if they do the same everyday or we just got unlucky.
We arrived at the hotel at 12.30, asking to leave bags as we know the check in doesn’t start till 4pm.
The staff on the reception were really friendly, checked and said the room wasn’t quite ready but it wouldn’t be too long. We refused waiting and said we would be back later.
We returned about 3pm to be met with different staff who categorically told us we could not check in until 4pm.
Over the next hour (between 3 and 4pm) I watched about 50 people arrive and be told they couldn’t check in until 4pm. They were encouraged to buy a drink at the bar.
In the end we were all held up in the reception with all seats taking and customers getting increasingly frustrated.
Of course when the clock hit 4pm everyone raced to the check in desk where only 2 staff attempted to check us all in. I was near the front but I’d imagine the process for those near the back took close to an hour.
I’m glad they managed to sell a few drinks at the bar (I’m sure that’s what they were aiming for) but for this reason only I won’t stay here again. It’s a shame because it is a nice hotel but it really got my back up!!

This location of this property was amazing!! We caught a train with all of our luggage 6 minutes after leaving the lobby. My children really loved the moody decor and the in-room bunk beds. The breakfast was probably the best part! It was amazing with a great view!

The location was really nice, as every bus, tram, and subway line is directly downstairs, and anything downtown was very walkable. However, this hotel was loud, both inside and out. It sounded like the room next to us was doing one of those 90s inflatable park things where you wear a velcro suit and run full speed slamming your whole body onto a velcro wall. There's no AC, so when the sun is out your room gets way too hot but your window only opens about an inch. That's enough to let in the full volume of a street performer down in the little plaza, plus a couple of ladybugs. Breakfast was pretty decent, but it was already chaos by 8:30 - there were only two dirty tables available on the 3rd level. We also didn't really care for the bedding situation, with a small mat wrapped in sheets, on top of an uncovered mattress - but maybe that's common in Norwegian hotels and we're just not used to it.

The customer service and staff are good, and the location is great. However, the cleanliness is horrible. When I took a shower, the bathtub became clogged almost immediately after I turned on the water. Since I was already wet, I couldn’t call anyone at the time. I had to remove a large amount of clogged hair, which I believe was left by many previous guests. It was absolutely disgusting, but I had to do it in order to use the shower. I almost threw up. I have pictures of it, but I’d rather not post them here so as not to disgust everyone. I’m very disappointed that a hotel with such a great location would have such a serious cleanliness issue.

The rooms are quite small however quite adequate for the time we were in our room. My daughter and I arrived for a cycling trip with our two bikes so it was squishy however we made it work. The hotel is in the city centre close to the water and shopping areas. The buffet breakfast is provided in the neighbouring Egan restaurant. It was the most comprehensive and amazing breakfast we have enjoyed all trip. Emily at the front reception gets a HUGE shoutout for going above and beyond to help us ship our bike box to Bergen for our return home and it was not an easy task. She was just such an amazing and engaging person. She was working well above her position.

Right beside the central station of Oslo, super convenient. The staffs are friendly and helpful. Guest room is bit small and no air conditioning which is common in Northern Europe. The hotel provides a fan instead. Overall is quite a nice place to stay.

We used the guest laundry to do a load of laundry for our family of four after tent camping for a week. The lobby area was lovely with a bar. This hotel is also attached to the train station as well as shopping. Really enjoyed our visit

When our train turned back, we were advised to book a hotel back in Oslo with a predicted return at 1am. I found our hotel with a room for my family close to the train station and paid extra to have the flexibility to cancel. When we finally arrived at 4 am I learned we could NOT cancel because changes and cancellation had to take place BEFORE 6 am which was 18h prior to the booking. I will never use hotels.com again.

The location is a key advantage of this hotel — easily accessible from the central train station and reachable from the airport. Our room had an amazing view of the bay and the Opera House. The rooms were quiet, and the breakfast offered a wide variety of options.

The location was very convenient. The building connects directly to the Central Station. Many shops and restaurants around and close to many attestations in walking distance. Loved the breakfast. The only negative, there is only one hotel bicycle to borrow. Not useful if you are with a partner or a friend. Two or more would have been perfect.

Great location in central Oslo

Arrived by train, this hotel was connected to the station by a shopping centre. Very central location minutes form the opera house and Munch museum. All staff spoke English and the breakfast was the best I’ve had in a hotel. Room was small but adequate.

Super convenient hotel right next to the train station and located downtown Oslo. The room was clean and the beds comfortable.
The breakfast buffet was absolutely AMAZING!!!!!! There was something for everyone. From crepes to scrambled eggs to cereals to fruit to croissants to fish and vegetables, it was a feast! Absolutely delicious and the staff were super nice and welcoming.
The only thing negative we need to mention is that, being right downtown Oslo, the noise level was quite high up until midnight.

The hotel itself is OK but the \"family room\" is so small.
There's hardly any space for suitcases.
If you're a family of 4 consider booking two rooms.
I asked for a different room but they said that is the size of al rooms of this type which is tiny.

Scandic Byporten is an nice hotel with modern rooms. Although the rooms are small, they are clean and functional. The hotel is well located next door to Oslo Central Station (and within a shopping Centre). Breakfast at the hotel is served next door at the Egon restaurant. Breakfast was incredibly crowded and difficult to get a seat. The hotel was very full over Easter weekend and our room, despite requesting it to be, was not cleaned. I had to complaint. It was eventually resolved.

Dirty toilet and clogged drains.

Toilet was dirty to an extent it seemed it didn’t see a proper clean in months, it was similar to a very dirty public toilet. Shower cubicle drain was clogged so water would build it. In order to prevent water from building up, we had to have the water opened very little, making it extremely difficult to have a decent shower.

The front desk staff is extremely friendly and helpful, in particular Gerald and Birendra.
Very affordable. This is the only place I will stay if I’m staying in downtown Oslo.

The hotel was very average. When we arrived all the hallway carpets needed vacuuming and our bathroom had no lotion or body wash in the dispensers. We knew it would be noisier based on the hotels location but even in the room you could hear considerable street noise with the windows closed. No possible way to sleep with windows open which made the room stuffy and warm at night. The breakfast was lovely but the seating was cramped and you have to schedule a time to eat ahead of time which was not ideal.

We paid a lot for a \"family room\" and instead got a room little larger than a shoe box, with the main bed flush against the outside wall and a bunk bed flush against the other side of the bed, the room was \"that\" small.... It had no air conditioning, so was really hot, even though outside is was only warm, and so uncomfortable in every sense, small and hot....
The only upsides were it's right next to the railway station and the breakfast was nice, the staff were friendly and helpful, but that didn't make up for a very expensive shoe box sized \"family room\".

Modern shower door with half glass door is not practical. It is extremely poor design. The bathroom floor gets wet and slippery. You should change the shower door for full enclosure. It is a risk hazard and not very environment friendly.
