Extremely basic room. One might describe it as spartan.
Superficially clean. Bathroom, bedding and carpets looked fresh, but the walls were dirty looking and the previous occupants half used bottle of milk was still sitting on the window ledge.
Taps in the bathroom wobbled in the china.
Bathroom ceiling showed signs of mould.
No bedside lamps or sockets, cheap/tatty looking furnishings.
On the upside the shower was very powerful.
The public areas and corridors were decorated in what can best be described as 1980s government building chic...drab, lifeless and uninspiring.

Wouldn't recommend staying here.

Room and bedding were clean, but unfortunately the mattress was way past its use by date. Don't think it had any springs left, was extremely lumpy and uncomfortable so got very little sleep. Staff friendly and welcoming. Breakfast very good but plates cold and food just warm although this wasn't a problem for me. Ideal location - close to train, buses, music venue, shops. Price was fine for what we got and it was only for 1 night. Would rather pay more for a better bed if staying longer.

Smelled of perfume trying to hide fish smell and mildew smell as soon as you walk into the hotel. Overwhelming fish smell from the restaurant. The elevator and all of the carpet smelled like someone was walking around constantly spraying cologne. Had a headache the entire time. The room was clean however they put us in a room with a slanted ceiling my husband who is 6 foot three had to sit down to use the toilet to urinate because the toilet was on the wall that was slanted.

It is in an excellent location and the outside of the building is beautiful.

I do not recommend the restaurant. We ordered fish and chips and a pizza. The pizza tasted like it was frozen from the convenience store. The fish and chips were decent, but not great.

We did enjoy the afternoon, high tea but it wasn’t spectacular just decent. Never got down to breakfast just because the smell was very offputting.

The Station Hotel has a very convenient location—right across from the train station / Union Square and within walking distance of the city centre. The price is reasonable, which makes it appealing for budget travellers.

However, I wouldn’t stay here again. The room showed clear signs of wear and tear, particularly the bathroom door, which was falling apart at the bottom, and missing grout in many of the floor tiles. The double bed was actually two singles pushed together at different heights, which made it uncomfortable.

Because of its location, the hotel was very noisy, and it seemed there was little soundproofing between the windows and the road meaning we barely slept.

Staff were friendly, but the reception area had an overpowering smell. Non-smokers will also find it unpleasant that people smoke right at the main entrance.

Overall, while the location and price are good, the room condition, noise, and entrance environment mean I would not return.

Decent sized single room, but marks on walls and not as clean carpet as would have liked, but all in all, quite good. Plugs only on far other side of bed and in window sill so wasn't ideal (by table would have been better). Kettle provided but had to put it on window sill to get power, ideally think plug near table area is a must. Comfy bed. Shower very good with good temperature and power. One day I had no toilet rolls or shower gel so had to ask for it. Staff were lovely but not sure I should have had to ask. Fire alarm went off twice while staying there, I know these things happen but no apology or mention of it next morning, after disturbed sleep, wasn't great. Bit tired hotel but even with little niggles, I did have a good stay. Was good value and so I'm satisfied but do think some little improvements are needed.

Took a long time to get checked in as only one staff member on duty until the queue went out the door and someone else appeared. It is very central and directly over from the station. It was obviously once a fairly grand hotel which is being slowly renovated. My room was quite nice and the shower was great. The fire alarm went off 3 or 4 times in the middle of the night and was clearly broken. Breakfast is OK, the staff in the restaurant could do with neing friendlier though.

Staying at the Station Hotel was a lovely alternative to chain hotels (that lack character and are all the same).
The Station Hotel was right by the station, which was great after a long train journey up, the building had traditional character and was tastefully decorated.
Staff were genuine, friendly and helpful.

Staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the hotel was spotless.
Our room (230) was huge and very clean. Bathroom was nice and modern. Furniture was a bit of a,mismatch but perfectly functional. Only downside was the roasting hot radiator that wouldn't turn down.
Would definitely recommend and will stay here again.

The room was very neglected. Bed was fine, but one or two issues I’d overlook.. there were many more.
Shower door didn’t close properly, plug missing from the bathroom sink, no shower gel and hand soap was nearly empty, tile grout had seen better days.
The bathroom tap was hard to get the water to actually stop flowing, and doing so meant that it was hard to get the water in the cold tap to actually come out.
There was a pipe above the window that had obviously leaked and not had a proper repair to the ceiling.
The furniture in the bedroom was falling apart, the unit at the side of the bed was loose and the drawer was drifting open under its own steam.
The unit with tea and coffee needed the doors tightened up as they were sagging at an angle.
A twin socket was lying loose in the bottom of the unit (pretty sure it’s not up to standard).
The laminate on the units was lifting due to previous moisture ingress.
The hotel was ideally situated and a room that resembled what was on the website and not a broom cupboard would have made the stay much better.
Room 409, best avoided… if you get it, ask for an upgrade and save yourself the time going up and having to come back to reception.

When I look at a place to stay, three things are important: safety, cleanliness, and value. More on this later. I have to say that our room was nothing like the photos. We were in a run-down room on the second floor that was on an slant. The furnishings were well worn and the bathroom was tiny. The lift was out of order, and there was no heat in the room. It is obvious that the pictures were of updated rooms that we were not provided. It felt more like a hostel then a hotel. We couldn't stop laughing at all the absurdities. However, it was safe and clean...can't say it was worth the price

Room 414. I was so pleased with this hotel, how central it was to everything . It was very clean and I loved the decor, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom facilities were excellent. There was plenty of storage and very spacious the view wasn't great though...it was a vent but I left the drapes shut so I couldn't see it, but the room made up for it so I didn't mind, it was quite noisy but they even catered for that as there were ear plugs in the drawers. There was an iron and ironing board and a hairdryer, the staff were very friendly and they cleaned our room every day
