We were very disappointed with this property. In the apartment the underfloor heating in one bathroom did not work. The jets in the showers did not work. Two of the taps were not fixed to the sinks and spun around when used. There were cracks in the walls. The entrance way was not clean. There was a lot of rubbish outside Apartment 3. The parking was a nightmare. There was no fresh milk. For the price, this was simply not acceptable. I sent an email to the property and pointed out our concerns - they didnt even respond.

Stylish and interesting apartments in the middle of town, it was a great place to stay. We loved our apartment, very cozy yet historic. We had no problems parking in the spot provided. The apartment was very warm and cozy, but if your someone who really needs fresh breezes and windows out to the open, you might not enjoy it here. There are also a lot of stairs, which was fine for us.

Clever restoration, squeezing apartment boxes inside the chapel without harming the heritage listed building. Given that this meant only one small opening window, I would not want to stay more than a few days. Great service and location... just not pleasant marinating in my own farts (due to bathroom and bedrooms having no fresh air.

We stayed in a studio apartment on New Years Eve. Needed somewhere close to the centre of Dunedin, but not close enough to be noisy. Very useful to have parking as it was very busy. The apartment was well-furnished and very clean, and had everything we needed.

One small problem was that the set-top box was in a different part of the room to the TV, and out of range from where I was sitting, which made it a bit awkward.

Unable to contact manager to resolve problems

The check in whiteboard in the main lobby gave our apartment number & keypad code for access but no indication that Apt 3 wasn't in the main building so it took me quite a while to realise I had to go out of the building, along the street, round the corner into the next street and up the hill to find the apartment in an annexe behind the main building! The apartment itself was lovely, well-equipped, very clean and quirky (the bedroom & bathroom were on a mezzanine up a spiral staircase) being originally a church. The heat pump & heated bathroom floor worked very well. BUT although the TV worked fine in the afternoon, in the evening all we got was sound & no picture. WiFi was erratic & unreliable to the extent that it was unusable. We tried many times to contact the manager but the phone in the lobby with a button for \"Manager\" just got the engaged tone. The room guide had an 0800 number that was wrong (or out of date) and a mobile number that just went to answerphone. The guide also had a note from \"Hannah\" (the Manager was \"Jon\" elsewhere) about WiFi problems over the holiday season that should be fixed in the New Year (!) Other information in the guide was obviously out of date too, e.g. the heat pump instructions said to put a key card in a slot, neither of which existed; there were references to Cadbury World and the Cadbury factory, which closed in 2018 and 2019, respectively, so we eventually decided that the phone numbers must also be out of date and gave up with them.

Great location and nice furnishings , however the bed squeaked badly and was saggy in the middle. Shower set up is overly complicated and is broken so our shower taps leaked badly
Also the windows are filthy on the outside and need regular cleaning. Could be a lot better fit the price charged

This is an extremely unique property which is why we booked it during our recent stay in Dunedin. It’s centrally located and an easy walk to shops and restaurants. There was great communication regarding check in from the manager (Jon) prior to our arrival, and self check was easy. We stayed for one night in apartment #2. The unit was clean, and had amenities such a fridge, dishwasher and washing machine (we didn’t use it). You could see that some updates had been made. As someone who prefers to be complimentary, I’d be remiss if I didn't mention that the particular unit we stayed in could be improved greatly by removing the tattered carpet, and fixing the leak that clearly had left stains down the wall. That was a bit of a turn off to see immediately upon entering.

Very cool building. Around 7 units all inside of an old church - very cool. Cant beat the location. Very handy to the Octagon. I can just imagine if all of the units were booked it would be a bit noisy (there are complimentary earplugs in the bathrooms!)

Excellent location just one block from the Octagon. The apartment was really large with a full kitchen and laundry and an ensuite for each bedroom. The heat pump warmed the whole apartment and each bed had electric blankets. The building is beautiful.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay in Chapel Apartments - a unique building, large 2 bedroom apartment with modern furnishings. Apartment had everything we needed - including washing powder with separate washer and dryer, full kitchen to cook meals, two separate ensuite bathrooms, electric blankets! Great location - close to the Octagon. Easy self check-in with good communication from property owner. Our only concern was the front door of the building being left open overnight, but very convenient if we were checking in late.

This is a unique place to stay. It had everything you need for a comfortable stay and is very central to bars, restaurants and shops. It is possible to walk to the Early Settlers Museum, the railway station and two large supermarkets. I recommend these apartments. The only thing is to check you have a car park with your apartment, as not all of them have one.

This property has had mixed reviews which made us a bit nervous about what we would find when we arrived. We needn't have worried. Location was fantastic, apartment was spacious, modern, clean and warm. Had all the amenities we needed - and great showers. Clear instructions were provided for us when we arrived (who needs a receptionist?). Whilst our apartment (7) didn't have a carpark assigned, parking is available at the car park building across the road - or on the street after hours. Would definitely stay here again

Chapel Apartments Review

We enjoyed our stay at the clean & centrally located Chapel Apartments. However, it would have been nice to have more than 1 set of dishes for 4 people. Only having 4 cups, glasses, side plates, dinner plates, bowls and cutlery for 4 is not efficient when loading a dishwasher with a few dishes. Otherwise we had to wash our dishes by hand.

Great location (right near the octagon) and unique accommodation are the real attractions. The major draw back is that the owners/mnagers are off-site so check-in is a little fiddly but not difficult and there seems to be no disabled access/lifts if you needed this. Parking in this part of town can be tricky also.

We loved the two bedroom apartment. We stayed there for two nights. We cooked and we had our fun. The kitchen was very equipped.

Bedrooms were nice, two bathrooms on suites. They don’t offer twin beds but two queen bed was fine for us. The kitchen and lounge was upstairs, it makes it quite easy.

The location was very nice. Quiet, safe, walkable.

We had onsite parking, so parking was really easy for us. If not, there are planty of parking out the road or Wilson parking across the road as the onsite parking were limited.

It’s a walk up so hopefully you don’t have lots of big suitcases and staying for only one night- it could be annoying if you have big suit case.

Service was very good, the lady was nice. We had our key ready by the time we arrived. We saw our name on the white board so we know what room we were in even there’s no one at the office.

We will come and stay again if we come back to Dunedin.

(We also had a look of the 3 bedrooms, that looked so good but it wasn’t available for two nights. I suggest the 3 bedroom for family over 4 people and if you are traveling with elderly, it would be a good option as the 3 bedrooms are one floor open plan- no need to walk up to kitchen by steps.)

Unique and luxurious accommodation in Dunedin

This is a fabulous chapel conversion ideally situated in central Dunedin with car parking outside and also a washer and dryer which we were very happy to have. The furnishings are high quality and the beds wonderfully comfortable - this is urban living at its best, as shops and convenience stores, cinema etc. were very close by. We wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Unique converted church.

Close to Dunedin Octagon.Stayed in unit 3. Off street parking outside separate unit entrance. Unit 3 is a comfortable well appointed 2 storey loft apartment with spiral staircase to mezzanine bedroom and bathroom.
Our only concern was that on arrival at check-in nobody was there to great us. Instead in the main foyer there was a door access code to our unit written on a whiteboard for everybody to see.

A very quiet, unique and well appointed accomodation option close to the centre of town. The night we stayed was one of the hottest of the summer and the apartment was really warm, the heat pump and free standing fan in the lounge did help.

Really well designed two bedroom apartment with bedrooms located on the bottom floor and lounge and kitchen facilities on top floor. Top floor was very warm due to only 1 small external window however aircon on bottom level made sleeping easy.

Having the bathroom on the second level was slightly inconvenient as one needed to go up the circular staircase to use facilities, but this is not a complaint, just a warning for those with mobility issues.

We loved the inique apartment! The apartment was well equipped with ammenities for dining. Hannah was a great histess and provifmded info on the area. Parking was not available for our apartment but Hannah reimbursed ys for tge parking garage across the street. A/c worked well in bedrooms. Upstairs was nuch warmer but ok. Highly tecommend!

Great location to the city. They have done a great job of this conversion from a church to apartments.
Parking was interesting and I had to park so close to the wall that we could only use the drivers side, even then it was a squeeze getting out of the driver door, I had a 4x4 as was the vehicle beside me. So no problem with two smaller cars.
Also very loud music until late/ early, which I enjoyed, but some people would find annoying. They did supply earplugs.
The room was left unlocked when they came and changed the towels, thankfully nothing was taken.

The double bed in the single appartment is a bit small. There is obviously some renovation work going on with exposed plaster showing. The car park space needs to have tow away signs to avoid having the public park in your space.

paid deposit to stay there. arrived and have no booking but instead have the date for a week later.. no apology for their errors, or assist to try to get a place. just said we booked out and come back next week. will not refund the deposit paid until went and complain to tourism office. so never get to see the room but sure have the experience of their service at the reception

Great location with a difference

The apartments are situated within an old church right in the heart of Dunedin city, right opposite the parking building on Moray Play. They are very tastefully furnished and quite spacious, with modern fully equipped kitchen and a large flat screen TV (Sky). The designer of the apartments incorporated the original stained glass windows and beams in the design, giving the décor that something special and unique. Access requires contacting the developer/manager (Jon) upon arrival via in free phone – note that check-in ceases at 11 pm when John goes to bed! There is parking available next to the apartments (unless someone steals your pace!). The only ‘negative’ is the noise issue; the church is very echoey and conversations at the door can easily be heard within the apartment – it appears the sound proofing is poor. This must be a continual problem, as ear plugs were provided in the kitchen drawer and a note was placed alerting residents to suggested steps to take if neighbours were noisy. Nevertheless, apart from this, the apartments are great and a very well situated base to explore Dunedin and its environs.

Great location and lovely converted church accommodation!! It was an experience. Our apartment had bedroom and bathroom upstairs and the bed was a bit small for two people and no room on one side so I had to climb from/out of the end of the bed, which was awkward when needing to go to bathroom at night. Also I understand the owner wants to put a limit on Internet use and I don't need to use the Internet a lot but nevertheless if there's a change after 300MB, it shouldn't be advertised as 'free wifi', which is somewhat misleading. It was a lovely stay overall though.

We loved Chapel Apartments. Great location close to everything, very spacious and it was wonderful having two bathrooms (only place we've stayed this trip with 2)! Good heating too. My only complaint would be no outside area ... But of course you can't have an outside area when you have an apartment inside a church!! We'd definitely go back.

Inside the church!

We arrived late but easily located the accommodation. The apartments are located centrally to everything in Dunedin and served as an excellent base for our three day stay. The rooms were amazing and the use of space inside the old church has to be seen to be believed. We were two couples travelling together and apartment no 4 worked really well for us. Plenty of room to relax, get our washing and drying done and two lovely bathrooms for our use. The beds were really comfortable and the whole apartment warm and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and assisted with extra towels and organised our checkout quickly.

Nice place in a great location but lots of little

A nice idea to convert a church into apartments. The apartment in the website looks nicer than what we were given. We had a broken shower, a broken blond, a broken water filter and only 5 coat hangers in a 2 bedroom apartment. When I asked to be moved to the 3 bedroom apartment that was available they confirmed I could but would have to pay an additional $100 er night. No compensation offered for all the things broken. The apartment was not serviced or anything replaced during our 5 day stay. There were many scuffs and scrapes on the walls, just not up to standard for what is marketed as a luxury apartment.
