Hotel was ideally placed for access to the city centre. The room was clean and tidy. Shower is great. Sports Bar downstairs was lively, but not intrusive.
Food was lovely, however, staff were a bit slow.

Awful Experience Never again!

Don’t stay here. Absolutely appalling experience! Was given a key to a room that wasn’t clean … Twice this happened! Eventually got us a room that wasn’t anything like we asked for. Not only that, they charged me twice for the room and when I asked for proof of refund they provided nothing. Now I have to chase up with my bank for my refund.

You get what you pay for I suppose. Staff all very friendly. Lively bar and restaurant downstairs if that’s your thing. My room was on the top floor above where the smokers hang out all day from the bar. Thankfully far enough away not to be bothered. Room was ok. Very tired. Stained carpet and cigarette butts all over the balcony. Floorboards unbelievably squeaky. Felt bad for my neighbours every time I moved in the room. Could hear people in next room talking, not loudly. There are only about 4 parking spaces and staff seem to use them. I got in there one out of 4 nights. Free parking in nearby streets and it’s a safe neighbourhood. I didn’t complain about anything. It was just me on the trip and have stayed in worse places. Wi-Fi worked well and the bed and bathroom were clean. Wouldn’t take my family here though.

The Hotel is geared towards the Tradie clientele. The room we stayed in had mould on the ceiling, dirty windows, stank of smoke and cheap deodoriser.
The hotel and rooms look like they were decorated in the 90's and haven't had any update since.
This place is ok if you want a posh Crack Den but i wouldnt stay here again or recommend it.

I had a quick overnighter at the Great Western. Seems to be a good and conveniently located hotel. I was able to park (fee free!). Just a 10 minute walk to Aberdeen High Street.

The room was clean, had a comfortable bed and good heating. I was in and out with no issues.

The first room I was given had not been cleaned; dirty towels no pillow cases: no clean towels dirty. It was rectiy and was given a new room. This is a pleasant hotel at budget price.
If you have mobility issues not good choice.

Was a good location for our golf trip. Hotel was nice, and room was clean. My room was above the smokers corner so difficult to have the window open. Hotel served food in the eveniing, but no breakfast facility available and no other optiion close by. Not a problem for us as we got breakfast at the golf courses we went to, but maybe a consideration for others

Revisiting early days in Aberdeen

Visiting old work colleagues and sites after having worked in Aberdeen 37 years ago. Changes to the city were to be expected.
The food was was excellent as was the service and the staff in general. I chose the Malacca, although it was not the original, it had memories of my wife and I meeting at the original restaurant 47 years ago, and chose it to celebrate our 44th anniversary.
The hotel lacked certain amenities, rooms were adequate and clean. However the room was noisy especially from the floor above. The view was over some back gardens. The lack of breakfast service was not too much of a problem, there being a small café a few minutes walk along Great Western Road.

Stayed for 2 nights. Hotel looks nice from the outside, parking isn’t great just space for 5 cars so it’s just your luck if you manage to get a space. The room was nice enough just basic, little storage space. Floors creaked a lot and you could hear folk in adjacent rooms, light bulbs were out in the bathroom and there was no extractor fan so when using the shower it got steamy quickly, they did have lovely toiletries which I always appreciate, they give plenty tea and coffee in the room and you can always get extra if needed. The room itself was really hot no air conditioning but was able to make use of the small balcony and kept the door open slightly overnight. The staff were nice, check in was alright no issues. There is a lovely bar and restaurant and they have pool table and darts. A nice place to stay and it was fairly comfortable.

Convenient for the city centre.

The hotel was in a gairly good location to the city centre. Only about a 15 minute walk to Union Street.
There was no on site parking but you can park on the side street, close to the reception.
Overall condition of the room was pretty good. The bed was a little uncomfortable, that could just be because of personal preferences.
Bathroom was good but there was quite a lot of mold on the platform next to the shower.

Everything was very clean and we opted for a room with a balcony which is great when the sun is shining, the downside being that the room was very warm and the only form of ventilation was opening the patio doors onto the balcony. This did not detract from our stay, however, and the staff we met were very pleasant.

The room was badly needing redecorated. Black mould on window seals and shower sealant. Also, as they don't do any breakfasts, at least they could provide directions to the nearest cafe, but they didn't. I would not recommend this hotel.

This was a room only booking as the hotel does not offer breakfast. However the room was better than I expected. It was clean, warm, comfortable and provided all I needed for a one night stay. Initially I was a little concerned it might be noisy and difficult to get sleep as room was located directly above the reception and bar area but it was quiet and I did not experience any problems. Happy to stay here again.

Reception is secured by a keypad, which we were not informed of code,and bell.which we tried more than twice with no response but eventually allowed entry by another customer. Bar patrons were smoking next to reception which was disgusting as we had to stand in a smoky atmosphere before we got entry. On entry again bell to summon receptionist and again a wait. Advertised car parking. Very limited 6 spaces for 25 plus rooms and know 1 was taken by staff but suspect more were staff so really no parking for patrons. Room was clean and tidy and bed clean and comfortable but toilet seat was not secure and slid all over the place. Only mirror was in bathroom which caused problems especially with my wife as she uses a mirror most mornings to dry and style hair and apply makeup which I think would apply to most women. We decided to choose the=is hotel as it was here that we met and definetely not up to the high standard of The Struan Hotel as it was then. Summing up were very disappointed as we could have paid the same for a hotel with breakfast included and better kept facilities and more hospitable.

Slept in room 101 for 3 nights. Loud parties either in a close room or the pub downstairs 2 nights. Could also hear every person that went past on the stairs or the door (which is capital every room). So constantly woken. Worst nights sleep I’ve had in a hotel

This hotel was advertised as having limited parking. I reality there were so few space that by the time the staff had parked there were no spaces for guests. Kept waiting to check in while receptionist finished her cigarette and personal telephone call. Room was ok except it was directly above smoking area which was in use by noisy drinkers until gone one o'clock in the morning. The room service was limited to bed being made and bin emptied. Dirty cups not replaced and tea, milk and coffee not replenished.
I doubt very much whether I'll be returning.

Room was basic ,deco depressing. Room was above bar so you got noise up to 1130 pm. No breakfast service. No one man's reception area. Bar was public bar ,full of local men and very load. Would not stay again ,was looking for a quiet relaxing weekend. Only good bit was restraunt food.

The room was clean, spacious and the service was second to none. Anything we needed was provided. We we were able to walk everywhere as we did not have a car. If you need something to eat, they have a pub for good food and great drinks. If you come, check out Duthie park. The gardens are beautiful. There is an old rail line nearby that stretches over 40 miles, great for walking or cycling. So when you come to Aberdeen, I highly recommend staying at The Great Western Hotel

Great room poor dinning and birthday meal disaster

Well i loved the room lay out and the bed was comfy and clean. The stairs are many and could do with a deep clean but worth the climb when you have a balcony .. it is so close to the city center yet very quiet and we slept very well. However on a less positive note the malacca resteraunt was an absolute insult not only with its name but with the food... let my say ...i ordered grilled cod and got part cooked microwaved cod with no check on the temp of the fish before serving . I have added a photo of the inside of my fish and its cold and raw. Very poor and dangerous. The staff were helpful in taking the orders and tring to encourage the sale of drinks , they never asked if the meal was satisfactory ...if asked they would have gotten the truth from me. The price was high and the flavor low i would stay at this guest house again but would not recommend the dining at this time in the restaurant . Please note i did not get sick because i stopped eating the fish as the temp changed and the fish looked raw.

The hotel has a good location, only 10 minute walk from the top of union street. Bar and food area is excellent. Room was nice and comfortable and very clean, staff very friendly and helpful, parking at the back of hotel was excellent.
Only bad points were :-
Paper cups for a cuppa in the room- not nice
Shower was excellent, good temperature and pressure, however after a hot 10 minute shower the whole toilet area was covered in condension, floor was extremely slippy and no anti-slip mat so a bit hairy getting out, had to put towels over the floor to avoid falling.

Expected a cooked breakfast. That's why i booked it. Got a bag with some oats and stuff. Pretty disappointing to be honest. Seems like it's out of soviet era russia. Except the bathroom, weirdly, which was great. Photos online are different to what you actually get. Room was totally roasting, no air conditioning. No one on the front desk at all times. Staff doing the best they could but were completely overwhelmed by the crowds to watch the champions league final. Wouldn't stay again. Bar area and beer garden seemed nice.

On first arrival, we feared the worst. Seemed a bit chaotic. But we persevered, and it was worth it. The Hotel has been caught in the transition from Sports Bar with rooms, to a Boutique Hotel, (with skeleton staff)

. Damned pandemic! The room we were in room 202 was splendid, and the continental breakfast delivered to the door was superb. We enjoyed it.
