Mixed bag, great location, poor WiFi, barking dogs

I gave a rating of 3 because of two factors-that are very important to me - very poor WiFi (very weak and dropping signal all the time, 3 or 4 times every hour), and being constantly woken up by incessant barking dogs (every night from midnight to 5 am) on smallholding on the other side of houses adjacent to the pool area. Hotel is raised above the small valley and the dogs sound like they are right next door to the hotel. Having a room facing the entrance to the hotel (not facing the pool) would be a better option.

On the very positive side:
- Wonderful staff
- Great breakfasts
- Easy 15 minute walk to town with all the restaurants
- Grocery store a 5 minute walk away
- Big suite, separate bedroom (some are open plan)
- Nice kitchen and well appointed for cooking
- Alvor beaches are arguably better than Portimao right next door
- Nice large balcony

Great first holiday with a baby. It was so clean and everyone was so friendly. The pools were great, the only thing I would suggest is for either more loungers and umbrellas or for management to implement their own policy on removing towels on loungers from people who are reserving loungers but who are not actually there.

This is our second stay here. The apartments are spacious and clean and well equipped. The reception staff are polite and helpful. Nice pool. Great wee bar and cafe.
The location is convenient- a short walk into the town’s bars and restaurants but far enough to be quiet at night.
Only slight negative was the WiFi was painfully slow

The room was lovely with great views. Housekeeping were very good. Friendly reception staff.

Wi-Fi was dreadful……so slow and kept shutting down. Whilst the staff were apologetic no manager was ever available to discuss this. As an independent travel agent I was there doing research on this hotel for future guests and I can honestly say I will not be recommending it! Good wifi is so important for guests nowadays so how a 4* hotel can allow this I have no idea! I struggled to book forwarding travel, transport and flight check in which is unacceptable

Also charging for a safe in 2024 is unbelievable! I stayed here 10 years ago and commented then on this ridiculous cost so cannot believe they are still doing it! These safes must have paid for themselves again and again. A 4* hotel should have no charge for this facility,

Great option at a great price!

This property is great with a need for a few touch ups - the air on did not work I the 1st room and the staff were very efficient moving us to another room however in the 2nd room the the bath tub jets don’t work, the clip in cover blocking of the tub plumbing was broken as were the towel racks. The staff do try to assist and the rooms are very spacious. I did appreciate that the room looks exact like the photos!

Convenient property but would stay elsewhere in the future. VIP status not recognised and tried to charge us extra to make the sofa bed. However, the staff who serviced our room each day were very good!

Be sure to bring your own tea and coffee as this isn’t provided.

Rooms aren’t soundproof so can be very noisy.

Front desk staff was so friendly and very helpful. They always greeted us so nicely and always checking to make sure we were happy. Gave us great tips on local Things to do and restaurants etc. Parking is right there and super easy. Room was huge, great AC, very clean, had a great view from the balcony.

It was about a 10 min walk into Alvor restaurants, but felt safe. V quiet hotel, with large studio room and lovely staff, although there don't seem to be many of them.Plenty of tables and chairs inside and on decking, but could do with a comfortable area, soft chairs (armchairs) and side tables to have a drink at or read, maybe a book exchange shelf? Only downside really was that there were not enough umbrellas, it would be good to have one umbrella per 2 sunbeds and people were reserving sunbeds and umbrellas at 8.30am and not using them till 2pm. But overall was a lovely relaxed stay, friendly and helpful staff, and would stay again.

We arrived quite late as had a warm welcome by the lovely receptionist who was vert friendly.
Our room was very lovely and big, comfy bed and lots of space, our balcony overlooked the pool and was very big.
Our bathroom was dated unfortunately. The shower needs updating.
We also had an issue with our toilet leaking but as soon as we informed reception they had the issue fixed within an hour or so, really can't fault them.
The hotel is a little walk into town (approx 10min) but that suits us fine.

Great hotel, very clean, helpful staff. Rooms very big as was the bathroom and balcony. Breakfast varied choice. This was my third stay at this hotel. It is just on the edge of the town, so a nice walk back after a meal. The town is small and during the day full of locals and at night it comes alive with restaurants and bars and music. Lovely safe atmosphere.

Rooms spacious and well equipped.The enormous balcony was brilliant as it had sun all afternoon and well into the evening . Well cleaned plus the bathroom toiletries were a bonus . Staff courteous and incredibly helpful especially at the reception desk .

The breakfasts were fresh and offered a good selection of foods .
Being a smaller hotel there were no queues or waiting times for any of the facilities .
Definitely would return if visiting Alvor again .

Fantastic place to stay, has its own pool which we didnt use as we are beach people. Bed and Breakfast only here which suited us as we lime to try local restaurants. The breakfast was buffet style and had a grrwat selection and good quality. The beach is a leisurely 20 minute walk and is wonderful. There is a local supermarket (5 minute walk) which has a cafe / bakery in it. The Portuguese tarts were 50p!!! And a filled roll was £2!!! On the way to the beach thru the main street was a artisan bakery / cafe which was our regular coffee stop! Definitely recommend and defo going back there!

Not a place to bring children-nothing for them outside except the pool and when it rains nothing for them or adults inside either. Although it’s very clean and the rooms are very spacious a lot of maintenance needs to be done such as fix door locks/balcony door hinges broken/ kitchen doors peeling etc. also it’s quite a walk to Centre of Alvor and the extravagant prices of taxis mean walking it has to be.

We had a studio apt with a big balcony and a garden and pool view.
The apt was a good size with air con and with a well fitted out kitchen which we only used for tea/coffee but there was a kettle,coffee maker,microwave,hob,oven and large fridge.Breakfast was good with continental and english all good.It's approx a 20 min walk to the restaurants,shops and beach which was ok for us.

Nice property with some updated amenities. Cute suites with kitchen and small fridge. Comfy beds and living area. Beautiful patio and nice outdoor pool. Must walk out and down a hill to the pool and kiddie pool area. Some loungers surround the pool with umbrellas. Nice buffet breakfast in the morning with coffee, juices, cereal, fresh breads, cheese, meats, and fruit. Old key system for the doors/rooms which makes it a bit inconvenient for carrying around. The location is a bit out of town and would be about 20 min walk. Small restaurant and store with basic conveniences a few mins away. Lots of parking.

We have been visiting Alvor for 10 years now, although this was the first time we stayed at the Luna Alvor Village, and we will book again. Rooms are kept very clean, and are visited by the cleaners every day. The staff are extremely professional, and go all out to make sure you are always happy. The reception staff are also very professional, and make every effort to ensure good communication - always a pleasant experience.The breakfast is extra special, with a fantastic choice to suite every need. Shame that some people tended to over indulge by filling their faces beyond what we would see at reasonable, but with all the food on offer, this never meant that we were left hungry.

Perfect hotel for a family holiday!

I was pleasantly surprised that the room exactly matched the image we had seen online and it more than exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, clean and had everything we needed - it was like a fully furnished studio apartment but in a hotel setting. The staff were friendly, breakfast was nice, the pool clean, good broadband connectivity etc etc. I highly recommended this hotel for a family holiday and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Stayed at hotel last year and was lovely but returned this year and had to move room twice. All 3 rooms we occupied had problems. First room air conditioning didn’t worked and we waited a whole day to change rooms. Second room had water coming through the ceiling , again waited a whole day to move. It also had no plug in bathroom sink and pools of water in the fridge. Last room smelt of cigarette smoke and the lights didn’t work in the bathroom( these were minor issues compared to other rooms). The rooms are obviously not inspected prior to occupation. Maintenance issues clearly now exist at the hotel.

Pleasant hotel in quiet area

Clean, functional hotel/apartments. 10/15 minute walk to centre to where most of restaurants are. Supermarket close by as well as a few eating places. Only criticism was arrived at midnight and night staff on duty wasn't particularly helpful when we enquired if there was anywhere we could get some water to drink. Told us the bar had just shut and basically suggested it was our own fault for late arrival as we'd booked a shuttle transfer instead of getting taxi direct. Did we wake him I wondered? All other receptionists on duty were helpful and friendly! would stay there again.

Absolutely lovely hotel. Great spacious rooms, which i would describe as suites rather than studios, with good facilities. We have stayed in many of the resorts in the Algarve and this is our third visit to Alvor, which we love. The hotel is in a great location easy walk into town and just a little further to the beach, however, the hotel does lay on a beach shuttle service for those who don't wish to walk.

Relax,relax,relax

Quiet but interesting, ideally situated from the beach 15-minute walk (burn the calories off the night before) from the hotel.
Alvor is a pretty fishing village with night life (if you want it ).The hotel is far enough away not to be impacted by the night life.
There is a delightful restaurant on the beach at reasonable prices.
It is our fourth visit and we have every intention of returning next year.

Been Twice- will go again!

We had a second very enjoyable stay in Luna Alvor Village apartment hotel. This complex is about a 10-15 min walk to the town centre. It is very clean,comfortable, and an excellent breakfast is provided. You can also have a very good lunch there if you are around the hotel at that time. They provide a courtesy bus to the beach twice a day and pick guests up for the return journey around 5pm. There is also a very good pool in the hotel grounds and a shallow pool for very young guests- it was always spotlessly clean.
It is the staff though,who make this hotel so enjoyable. They are all so helpful and friendly, from the receptionists, night staff and breakfast room waitresses to the wonderful ladies who service the rooms every day. I can't praise them highly enough.
There was evening entertainment on two nights which was excellent if you don't want to stay in the town centre late at night. Alvor is a very beautiful place, a great choice of restaurants, great scenery and somewhere you can feel safe.

Spotless - great so long as you don't mind a walk

Lovely spacious and very clean accommodation. 10 mins to Alvor village, another 5 or 10 to the beach. Absolutely no problem so long as you don't mind walking. Beds were very hard and the sofa bed was dreadful. My very lightweight 11 yr old said she could feel \"al the springs\". We had to ask for mattress toppers which they provided without any problem. However this only gave a slight improvement. Other than that I can't fault the place.

Perfectly lovely!

Stayed for a week, a late break in October and would say from the outset the Studio we had was perfect! The complimentary robe and slippers were a lovely touch! The room was clean, modern and well equipped, it even had a proper coffee machine! The free wi-fi was a nice touch too!
About a 10 minute walk to the town and harbour which is nice, the bars didn't really come alive until after 10 and one restaurant we were well impressed with is the Agradaveis which is on the main strip where the food was of extremely high standard but very reasonably priced.
The Luna Village Hotel staff were all really friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The live music on a Tues and Thurs was not very good but you don't have to stay in. The only English tv station was Sky News but if you've got your laptop who cares!
We hired a car for 3 days to see a bit more than Alvor. Using the map (kindly provided by the rental company) was very handy and places were easy to find and well sign posted. We loved our stay and would highly recommend for couples and families with young children. Not so much for teenagers though!

Fantastic peaceful location and hotel

Quiet area of Alvor but only 10-15 minutes pleasant walk from the old town centre. Excellent spacious rooms with all amenities you could want. Recommend taking the breakfast option which was very good and can be enjoyed fro the outside terrace.

Not a good choice for young children due to location, especially if you want to be near the beach/amenities.

We will be back!

Very spacious, clean, comfortable rooms with everything you need. Extensive breakfast choice. Friendly staff. We had no problem getting sun beds at the pool at the end of Sept, beg October, despite some being broken. Beanbags available on the grass area was another novel option. We had a snack form the bar on one occasion, which was good. The only drawback was we had to wait to get into our room, which after a 5.30am start was slightly frustrating.

I must say our stay in Alvor was very relaxing and enjoyable. We found the whole atmosphere of the area to pleasant and friendly.The hotel was very modern and the staff very friendly and helpful.
I will be returning for another stay again.

Lovely modern apartment Hotel in Alvor

From the friendly greeting when we arrived at the Alvor Village Hotel we had a wonderful stay, the studio apartment was really spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean.
A lovely buffet style breakfast and also a good range of snacks can be ordered throughout the day at the bar.We also booked an excursion from the hotel to Silves and Monchique.
Alvor is a lovely place with an abundance of wonderful restaurants and cafes and comes alive at night ! The beach is beautiful and stretches for miles, also gorgeous views at the riverside where you can take boat trips along the coastline, we'll definitely be returning !

Large rooms and fantastic staff

Love this hotel the rooms are large, the staff are friendly and helpful the atmosphere is lovely. Breakfast is great although don't expect English sausage and bacon (the Portuguese ones are better anyway). Nice walk into the town 10-15 minutes and the beach around 30 minutes walk but the hotel provide a free shuttle bus to town and the beach 3 times a day on weekdays. Highly recommend this place and Alvor.

Our family stayed in Luna Alvor Village dor 10 days. The staff were lovely {especially Claudia},the pool was a good size and the selection for brekfast was fantastic. We had a studio apartment with a pool view and the room itself was modern and well equipped. This is a great family friendly hotel especially if you have young kids. Would be very happy to stay here again.

Expected more...

We expected a 4 star facility as it is advertized. However this does not correspond and is a 3 star place. The choice was very limited as we booked late and seeing August being a very busy period the options very limited.
We had a rental car which saved us as still location is not perfect unless you are happy spending the days at the pool.
Breakfast service was more like at a \"army baracks\" and nothing more then to get a breakfast amid noisy and quite dirty setting as we ate quite late.
Reason booking it was reviews and mostly the size of the apartment.

Nice hotel studio self catering in alvor

Really nice hotel with large studio accomodation. We had room on ground floor which is raised overlooking the pool area. We had sun on the balcony in the morning. The pool area was very nice with plenty of sun beds. Most people take away their towels when not using them but there are always some people are less considerate. Massage services are available beside the pool which I would recommend. Really nice easy going atmosphere for couples looking for a relaxing holiday or families with young children. Probably not for teenagers or twenty-something's looking for action or clubbing atmosphere. Would go back again.

Nice hotel, but not perfect location

Stayed 5 nights in July 2016, hotel pool is smaller than it looks but overall hotel is good. No food after 4.30pm. Breakfast fine. Hotel is a 750m walk from shops and restaurants - walk is across some dirty / unkept pathways. With a car / taxi Portimao is only a short trip away. you can walk to Alvor Bay and beaches / boardwalk in around 20 minutes.
