The room was expectedly small. However, the bed in the room had a large pointy wooden bed base that made it hard to maneuver around. I hit my leg multiple times. Also, the carpeting by the bathroom was frayed, the room had a strange odor upon entry, and the bath product receptacles were flimsy and the bottles kept falling off. The staff at the front desk was very nice and helpful.

Very important note: there is parking onsite. However, request a spot on the ground level. Level 1 is nearly impossible to maneuver without scraping your car on the side wall.

I added breakfast to my stay, and a flyer in the room promised a full hot breakfast at the hotel's Cafe Vivian. Turns out, the reception lobby is also the \"cafe\", and it's just self-serve cereal (I didn't see any milk but there were a few yogurts) and stale toast. There's no coffee at all, and instead there's a kettle and some tea packets and instance coffee.

The room was spacious, clean and tidy. Process of checking in and out is easy. The hotel is near to restaurants, many choices. The only problem we encounter during our stay is our next room, they were too loud using their door, banging when going in and out at 10pm. Otherwise the hotel superb!

At check-in the receptionist told us to use the \"on line\" check-in. In the past it hasn't worked so we were reluctant but have it a go. Got to where you swipe your cc and it failed. Receptionist not happy that she actually had to get us to sign the form. Either way she would have needed to deal with us to give us a room key.
The room was clean and tidy on arrival however for 5 nights stay we got no service. In the past we have been serviced most days.
I asked for towels to be replaced and for tea, coffee, toilet paper to be replenished on day 3. Got fresh towels but no used ones taken, and nothing else. Asked at reception the next morning, (different receptionist) who happily have me what I needed.
We feel the standards are slipping here at Microtel.
It's in a great location, the room we were in had a slightly softer bed than previous rooms we've stayed in so that was nice.
I'm sure we will be back and hopefully customer service will be back to its previous standards.

Minimalist style room. Neat and tidy. Our room was on the 3rd floor. Had a cool slating roof window with automated blinds.

Housekeeping did not clean our Rm on 2nd day of stay.

Appreciated the staff accommodating us by leaving the cafe downstairs available to us to wait for our transport even after closing time.

Arrived at 1:25pm - Room was ready but the receptionist wouldn’t allow me to access the room until precisely 2:00pm unless they extorted $25 out of me. I waited in the public cafe area staring at the clock until 1:59pm - only then was I allowed to be issued with a keycard. I wouldn’t stay there again - Pretty poor way to treat your guests and lacks any level of customer service.

We paid our room when book and had to pay when check in. The room number should be printed on the receipt, but the printer didn't work, so we don't know where is the room. We got told to park at parking No.1 where someone already parked. The on site manager didn't help us at all.

Positives: Value for money, location (walkable to main tourist areas), has a lift, the staff were helpful on the phone, self-check-in was straightforward, the bed was comfortable, tea and coffee were provided, and the bathroom was clean.

Negatives: the cups provided were dirty, no spoons to stir hot drinks, and the bathroom walls are made of opaque glass (not fully private). The carpet meeting the wall edges was dusty, and the reception was often unmanned during operating service hours.

Other things of note for our room: The TV standby light was very bright (difficult to darken the room), and it was not immediately obvious how to close the blinds (switch-operated). The phone had a message light on, and I could not disable it.

The hotel room had a perfectly good TV but no service and as an international guest I couldn’t watch free to air TV.
The room service only occurred every 4 days which I was not expecting. This was not communicated when I booked the room
The “girl” in the reception desk was unable to provide me with a receipt at check out. The app I had booked with suggested I needed to talk to the hotel at check out to get a receipt but this needed to happen some time after check out and only via email.

This was SO much better than expected - especially for the price.

I was worried that photos were of just recently refurbished rooms, but I was wrong. Obviously ALL rooms are modern, like this.

And a decent size.

And immaculately clean, well proportioned, and with great facilities. The bathroom is stunning, and there's plenty of storage room for longer stays.

The bed is firm, but comfortable.

The only downside would be if you have a room facing Vivian Street, as I did. The windows are surprisingly not double glazed, and it's quite a busy street - even through the night, so you will get quite a lot of street noise.

But for the price, and convenience, it can't be beaten. Quite the gem!

We arrived in the evening and attempted to park in the hotel car park. The shutters were down and we were unable to contact anyone to open the parking facility.

Both the reception and bar were closed and unmanned. After contacting the on-call manager, we were informed we would have to park opposite the hotel in the on-street parking as the car park was full. A number of people had the same issue as my wife and I, so could the hotel perhaps specify when the car park was full?

The hotel is situated on the State Highway, so we had to rejoin the traffic and loop around to park. Our room itself was small, and unfortunately for us was situated above the highway so was quite noisy. The hand dispenser was broken and so the sink and fixtures were covered in hand soap when we arrived.

It was located close to numerous bars and restaurants.

We had a terrible experience checking in. We arrived in the early evening, after 6pm.
The vehicle was outside the hotel on SH1 and we couldn't get the gate lifted without a card.
Why isn't there a keypad to punch in a code for guests who have already paid?
The terminal was confusing, it wanted our credit card even though we'd already paid. Then the terminal went down on us and the manager had to come downstairs to reboot it.
It was stressful.
The after hours checkin system let you down and I would not recommend the hotel for this reason.

Good location, new, spacious (but mostly empty) room.
Hair on bed and handprints smeared on frosted bathroom glass. TV didn’t work. To be fair, I didn’t ask anyone how to fix but then there doesn’t appear to be any staff there after 6pm.
You can listen to the person in the next room have a conversation, which is great at midnight when you were sleeping soundly. The roller blinds are slow and again, the neighbouring room’s are very loud.
Also the front door appeared to have open access even after 8pm…and no security/card needed on the lift, so presumably anyone can just wander inside whenever??
New hotel so most of this is fixable…not sure about the sound proofing though.

I don't leave reviews, but, this time I thought I should. Our room had a bathroom and toilet enclosed in semi-transparent glass which gave no privacy at all which we REALLY didn't like. The room had somebody else's half-eaten Ubereats package left in the room. The TV is android, has no freeview channels and would not connect to our phone or laptop for streaming. The staff were nice, but the hotel is awful.

Room was dirty and not cleaned once over the 4 days I stayed, I eventually emptied my own bin as it started to smell.

Numerous vomit-looking stains on carpet in the room that has not been cleaned at all, random hair everywhere, towels, bedding, floors, bathroom.

Soap dispenser was broken and just left in pieces in the bathroom. Stains on bedding.

Not sure why as they never clean, but I had to constantly walk around bags of laundry just lying in the hallway. Hallways not clean either.

The Wyndham Microtel was perfectly situated for our needs. It was close to the ferry (which we were taking the following morning) and within walking distance of plenty of restaurants and stores. The amenities were fabulous, the room and hotel were clean, and we appreciated the spaciousness of the room.

First of all let me start by saying I never leave reviews either good or bad but this place was so bad I felt I had to review it.

let me start with the positive, the hotel is in a good location, especially for the cricket at the Basin Reserve. The room was large, much larger than I expected for a city center hotel and the shower cubical was also a good size. It was also clean (well at least to start).
So to the bad. Lets start with the service or lack of it. Firs of all reception closes as 6pm and from then on it's a self check-in machine. Having experience issues with the Wyndam self check-in before I was worried but it did work. Secondly I stayed 6 nights and the room was made up once!! That's despite having the please make up room sign on the door.
Now to the room itself. As I said it was large and the shower cubical was also large but the towels were on the opposite side of the bathroom, What's the first thing you need when you got out of the shower, a towel which could not be reached. The sink was a joke, tiny and very shallow and you had to be a contortionist to get to the toilet roll holder while sat on the toilet!
Now to the bedroom. The bed was ridiculously high. I@m 5ft 11 (1.8m) and my feet were about a foot (30cm) off the ground when sat on the edge of the bed. How are people who are a lot shorter than me going to cope. Even Lenny Henry would have had trouble (UK visitors will get that). There was only one bed side table and one bed side lamp. Out of chars.

Could be a great place and hopefully is for many others. I asked a number of times (3) for some basic service to my room (shower gel / shampoo) ran out and some clean towels. Waited three days for this to happen.
TV also requires everything to be streamed which I was not aware of given the description when booking.
Some items (room 110) were not fixed sufficiently to wall (eg. Fuse box)

Could not plug in needed transformers for medical device. Outlets were too close to the counter. Staff tried to find an extension cord but it wouldn't work because of lip on cord. Staff had no clue where I could purchase a power strip...they were \"young\".
