It was a wonderful stay as where the staff it is in a very central position and accessible to lots places such as the louvre and dorsay art museums and beautiful opera theatre I would stay here again if i vidit paris andvwould recommend to all

This is a smallish designer hotel just off the prestigious Place Vendome. Rooms are not large but done up nicely and the bathroom was pretty roomy. Lots of eating places nearby and two metro stops within 5 minute walk.

The person at check in could not be bothered to help us book us train tickets or a car rental for our tour the next morning
I had to call the hotel we stayed the day before the woman was more than happy to book everything for us online.
The wifi was terrible.

Beautiful and charming hotel

Great hotel. Of historical significance, since this is the site where the great French writer Stendhal died. Charming property, beautifully done to make it a comfortable place to stay. Great staff (they couldn't have been more helpful). Hotel bar is the equivalent of a small, comfortable living room (very charming). Bathtub/shower was a little challenge to climb into. (It requires a very high lift of your leg and a bit of a balancing act. Could be remedied with a small step and one or two strategically placed wall braces to grab onto.) Room coffee is only instant.

Hotel is small-scale and for this reason is truly a delight. Easy walking distance to many amazing sites.

Lovely small hotel very well situated in the 1st. Clean spacious room and a perfectly comfortable bed. My room faced a courtyard and it was very quiet. Great hotel, highly recommend and will stay here again.

Overall great stay. English friendly. Front desk was extremely helpful and hospitable.beautiful hotel and surrounding area. In the high end shopping district. Short 10- 15 min walk to louvre and eiffel tower. Great food nearby. Only issue was the bed mattress was probably pretty old and not very supportive or comfortable. Breakfast was pretty good. Nothing amazing for 22 euro a person but I guess that's a pretty average hotel price. We ended up getting breakfast at Eric Kaysar patisserie & cafe most of the time.

Lovely comfortable hotel in a great spot

The hotel Is situated in the heart of the right bank close to the louvre and palace de Concorde in the opera district. The hotel was very clean and the staff attentive and English speaking. The district has all the designer shops you can imagine so dining out can be expensive both for food and drink. Therefore try not to dine close to these attractions and place vendall. Paris is an expensive place but well worth the trip. Had a lovely stay at the hotel and the taxi service booked through Expedia were brilliant. Notre Dam and the Arc De Triomphe were the best sights followed by the louvre which could take a week to walk round - it's huge. Visit on the first Sunday of the month for free access to most attractions and museums.

A very attractive small hotel on a side street near everything. Easy walk to Louvre, Opera, L'Orangerie, Champs Elysee, Tuilleries and near Metro. Staff was very helpful.
Room was small but nice. Would definitely return.

Nice hotel but stuffy

The room was lovely, but bad ventilation.. And to make matters worse the air-conditioning was failing miserably, it was on the maximum cooling setting and the inside was unmistakably similar to the outside temperature, but muggy and stuffy. Bad when it is 36 degrees outside, we had to sleep on top of the blankets. Probably ideal for winter not summer. But for the price range, one would expect a more comfortable experience. Sadly, unimpressed. I reported the fault to the hotel staff and he basically shrugged his shoulders.

Wonderful small hotel in a great neighborhood

I almost hate to rate this hotel because I'd love to return and want to be able to book a room easily. Love the location and neighborhood. The staff was very nice and quite helpful. I appreciated the relatively large bathroom with a separate toilet. Breakfast was pricey but good.

Perfect in every way !

This hotel is in the perfect location within walking distance to many popular sites .
Great opportunities to have breakfast , lunch or dinner right next door and across the street . That makes it easy when traveling with family .
The hotel is very comfortable , with down comforters , down pillows , great shower facilities ,
Free WiFi ......very quite hotel .
This is our 2nd time staying here and both times have been perfect .
We will definitely stay here again and we recommend it to everyone .

Lovely facility in a great location. Small but sufficient and pleasing. An older building but nicely updated and comfortable. The woman at the reception when i checked out was terrible - unhelpful at getting a taxi and dishonest about what she could or could not do. what had up to that point been a delightful stay left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Within walking distance to Louvre, Champs d Élysées , Place Vendome. Safe district.....a bit noisy from street noise if you leave window open. Breakfast is very expensive, would suggest walking a block away to find a fresh food outlet.

Nice, small hotel in middle of things

The Stendahl hotel is very nice, quite updated for an American traveler. The room was very comfortable, with AC and heat. Shower had rain showerhead and lots of hot water. Staff are very personable, speak English, and are interested in being helpful. We didn't take advantage of the 22 Euro per person breakfast, going instead to a bakery across the street for croissants, etc.

The area is very up-scale, with high-end jewelry shopping around the corner. Consequently you don't get the neighborhood feel. There is no market close-by.

You are very close to the Louvre, the Seine, and a few Metro stops for convenient connections to other major sites.

Great hotel in great location

We loved Hotel Stendhal. The location is perfect, around the corner from Place Vendome. Room (we had a classic one, not superior) was spacious, full of character and cosy, with lovely bathroom, nice toiletries. It is very convenient to have bathrobes and slippers provided by hotel. Most important it was spotless clean everywhere. We also appreciated a kettle in the room, I could make my calming tea before bed. All the staff were friendly and polite.
We didn't have breakfast in hotel, so can't comment on that.
As far as we understood, wi-fi is free for 24 hours only, luckily we didn't need it.

This is the second time we have been in this hotel, and it has been even better than before. The room is a bit small, very tipical in Paris, but very luxuriously decorated. Beds are very confortable, all amenties at hand, free bottle of watter on arrival. Fast check in and check out. Amaizing bathroom with rain shower, all \"state of the art\" taps.
Excellent location, 1 min walk to Place Vandome, 20 min walk to Gare Du Nord, 5 min walk to Jardin de Tuilleries.
There are restaurants and patisseries close by. Breakfast at the hotel is good but very expensive 22€.

Great location, great hotel

Very nice hotel, we love this hotel. The room is newly refurbished. Everything is perfect, if need suggestion, the hotel can add a sofabed in its suite room. The suite is spacious enough to accommodate family with kids. Location is excellent. We came to Paris quite often, so far this hotel is really up to our standards, clean and close to everything. Standard room is not so big but all hotel room in paris is normally small, if you come with kids, better choose suite room.

Great boutique hotel near Place Vendome

The room was bigger than expected for a European boutique hotel. Modern, clean, comfortable room. Walking distance to Place Vendome/shops and close to Opera House. 10-15 minute walk to the Louvre museum. Great bakery across the street called Eric Kayser. Another good bakery within walking distance is Boulangerie Julien on Rue de Petits Champs (same street as Rue Danielle-Cassanova but is re-named Rue de Petits Champs after it intersects Avenue de l'Opera). Pierre Herme shop close by off of Avenue de l'Opera if looking for good macarons

The Hotel Stendhal Place Vendôme Paris is a fantastic boutique hotel located in central Paris. There are some excellent vibrant restaurants and bars close by and the metro is only a short walk away. The rooms are not huge but still very comfortable and well appointed. But best of all, the staff are very friendly and could not have been more helpful.

The hotel is close to everything. Most attractions are within walking distance. There are many restaurants and sandwiches bars near the hotel. The rooms are clean but small. The price we paid did not include breakfast and we consider it a bit pricy - it might well be due to the French Open event.

Could not be beat!

There is nothing negative to say about this hotel. It has just undergone renovations so everything has been renovated. This is a small hotel on a side street near Place Vendome. Our room had 2 single beds facing the courtyard so it was quiet even though just behind the elevator. Never even heard it! Rooms are small but well appointed to maximize comfort. The room service food is quite good and reasonably priced (the hotel doesn't have a kitchen but use an outside catering service). For me what made this hotel special, is the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. Always trying to help and go that extra step to ensure you enjoy your stay! Would definitely stay there again!

Super Location in the heart of Paris

A wonderful location, around the corner from the Place Vendome and minutes walk from the Louvre and Opera. The hotel seems to be being spruced up for rebranding and there was an underlying smell of fresh paint in the room which took a little while to get used to but ultimately didn't spoil the visit. The receptionist was particularly helpful with recommendations and was kind throughout our stay with great English. If you like Japanese food then there are many great value options locally, especially on Rue St Anne and the Weekday Bar, Le Cap Bourbon a couple of doors down has a nice champagne by the glass at a reasonable price.

Great rooms, location and staff!

This was our first stay in Paris and we were aware that hotel rooms can be smaller than U.S. expectations. There were two of us in a room with a double bed and there was plenty of room, including a desk and two chairs. The room was clean and had extremely high ceilings. The bathroom had a large vanity and tub/shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location of this hotel was excellent for the various shopping and sight seeing excursions we had planned. There are lots of excellent restaurants and cafes close by. We really enjoyed staying at this hotel and recommend it.

The hotel is located in a quiet street and is close to many attractions( the Louvre,Tuileries,Museum of Decorative Arts,Place Vendome,Place de la Concorde,Opera Garnier) and very good restaurants.The room is quite spacious for a Parisian hotel and is well decorated.What made our stay even more memorable was the hotel's exemplary customer service.The staff had very good communication skills and were warm and friendly,particularly Marc.They do really go out of their way to help you.There are plenty of cafe's nearby for breakfast if you are on a budget.There is a patisserie and cafe very close to the hotel.The nearest station would be L'Opera and the street is not far from the major shopping districts such as Boulevard Hausmann where you will find Galeries Lafayette and Printemps.Also close to Rue de Rivoli where you will find Angelina( famous Patisserie),souvenir shops,WH Smith newsagent and Galignani-bookstore with books in both English and French,Rue St Honore-boutiques and well known stores such as Collette etc.

The hotel staff were amazingly nice and helpful. We wanted tickets to the Moulin Rouge and they booked them for us and did all the work. Anything we needed was catered to. The bed was really comfortable. The only slightly awkward thing was that when we opened our bathroom window after a shower it looked directly on to an office, but not the hotels fault. Amazing Stay.

Amazing location - 50 feet away from Place Vendome and literally in the middle of everything. Really enjoyed the large windows and the balconies. Opening all the windows and letting the street in is a great experience. Paris is lovely as always and this hotel made the stay more enjoyable.

My wife and I spent four nights here and we were very happy that we did. The hotel is small which was just fine with us and is very centrally located with three different Metro stops all within a short walking distance. The room we had was just the right size for us and all our luggage without if feeling cramped. The room was also very clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff was very friendly and spoke English well. There are also plenty of places to eat in the neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again.

management, always obliging. Good size rooms, No. 23 has a large bathroom. Liked the

cellar based breakfast room offering freshly sqeazed fruit juice and wide choice of food.

Very good bars and food close by, ate at Cap Bourbon right next to the hotel, great english

speaking friendly staff and interisting menu to suit all. would certainly return to this hotel.

1st time Paris visitor

Very Nice Hotel

Great Hotel with friendly staff in a great location. Assisted us with all sorts of tourist information and were extremely friendly with excellent English speaking skills. Everything regarding reservation was noted and no additional charges or problems of any kind with our reservation. Only a few blocks from where the airport bus lets off. Breakfast was expensive at the hotel, but plenty of local Cafes to choose from as alternatives. We purchased an upgraded room and were glad we did. Room had a separate T.V. area with sofa and really opened up the space. The upgraded room also came with 4 free drinks per day, a portable extra heater and an in-room capaccino maker (all nice and unexpected surprises). Will definitely stay at this hotel again if we make it back to Paris and highly recommend it. No view from any of the rooms, but that is about all this hotel is missing. Also a very quiet location at night. Thanks

Absolument fantastique!

My childhood friend and I decided to celebrate our Birthday's in Paris. We just departed from the hotel on Wed. We were welcomed from the first moment we arrived. We had lovely, very clean, well attended rooms. The hotel is very cozy and the staff are all superb. They guided us on every detail of our trip. Always smiling and helpful. The location is excellent. right around the corner is Place Vendome and in the other direction the Opera. I had been in that location a few years back and paid triple the price, and no help from the conceirge. The experience at this hotel we will never forget and truly will return. A special thank you to the night conceirge Stephen for his recommendations and guidance and knowledge of Paris that he shared with us. He was beyond valuable to add a flair to our daily touring of the city. I hope he reads this! We always felt safe at night with the door locked. Very important in Paris at night. Au revoir Paris you are truly Lovely, and Hotel Mercure is a hidden gem!!!

I stayed there last summer, it is wonderful, have stayed in other places in Paris but this one is the best for the money. Not too expensive, close to the metro, classic rooms, and great value for the money. The breakfast buffet is very good and the staff is very helpful and nice. great little library and great location close to many attractions.
I will definately be back there when I am in Paris.

Hotel was excellent

This is a boutique hotel with 20 rooms. It is about a three block walk tot he Opera metro station and in a great neighborhood. Lots of shops, restaurants, high end hotels, all were close by. Staff was very friendly and very helpful. I would definitely stay there again.

Kudos also to the staff person from Orbitz who worked with me on line to find a hotel that met all of my criteria. She was very patient and very thorough. This is a great service when you are traveling to a city that you don't know well and need some advice on where to stay.

Good location, small & clean

We stayed for 2 nights and found the Mercure at Place Vendome a great location as a base for seeing all the sights in Paris.
The room was small, but not too small, with safe, tea making facilities, TV and a decent sized bathroom with separate toilet. There was sufficient hanging space, drawers and shelf space in the wardrobe and enough hangers for two people.
One morning we took breakfast downstairs which was the usual continental options and expensive unless you have a bit of everything to get your money's worth. The atmosphere down there wasn't great - very quiet with a member of staff stood watching over you. I would eat out, as there are several good options very close by.
There's a lift although it's tiny and only fits 2 people at a time with luggage. There's no real lounge or social area - just a few chairs in the reception area. The people on reception were reasonably welcoming and were happy to store luggage when we arrived too early to check in, and after we checked out as we had a late flight home. Check out time was a very reasonable 12 noon.

Mercure Stendhal Place Vendome-great location

My overall experience at this hotel was wonderful. Location-wise, it is situated very near a metro station (abt 100m to metro Pyramide), 20-40m from the up-market Place Vendome and Rue Saint-Honore and about 400m from Blvd Haussmann and the general shopping area that surrounds this famous street. Opposite the hotel itself along the same street are several standard French cafes, a great trendy sit in/take away establishment and an Eric Kayser outlet, so it's really in a great location.

They serve a continental breakfast, which is enjoyable.

I had two problems: customer service and 2 room-related malfunctions. While, I was there, the room hair dryer had a short-circuit problem, so it would work on and off, but that's a minor issue. The more serious malfunction involved the room's main entrance door. It would refuse to open whenever I fed my card into it and as a result, I had to constantly contact the front desk to ask to be let into my room using their master card. This started from the first day of my stay and the staff said they would look to fix the problem, but it persisted right up until my last day. This is plain frustrating and could limit your movements if you always have to ask front desk to let you in after you've stepped out.

Generally, customer service was average and staff seemed unwilling to go the extra mile for customers, but this shouldnt take away from the fact that the hotel has an amazing and charming ambience to it that I haven't found anywhere else.

My room (double bed) was an absolute pleasure to be in. It was clean, spacious, comfortable and somewhat homely. Provided in the room is a flat screen HD TV for those who may want to catch up on some French television but perhaps the hotel should consider adding more English language channels other than BBC.

Mecure Stendhal - not anywhere near a 4* hotel

We stayed 5 nights at the Mecure Stendhal Place Stendhal from 7/23/11 to 7/29/11. This is at best a 2 star hotel, not the 4 star that is advertised.

First - the good - our rooms were clean, although the carpet and paint had not been updated for a very long time. Also, the location is excellent for touring and is easy walking distance to the Louvre, Orsay, and Opera.
However, services at the hotel were pretty much nonexistent. The \"lobby\" is a room approximately 10' x 12'. Although there is a computer in the lobby, it is not connected to the internet.
The \"front desk\" consist of a table just inside the front door manned by a guard. (THe guards were very nice) There are no other visible employees.
Our AC was broken. It worked the first night, making a lot of noise. After that, it did not cool.
Although we had daily housecleaning, there was no housekeeping department. There was no concierge desk, no room service, no laundry, and wi-fi was spotty.
The pictures shown on the website are either very old, or have been touched up. We did not believe they accurately depicted the condition of the hotel.
I do not mean to sound pretentious in describing the lack of service. Had the hotel been described as a 2 star, it would be a reasonably good place to stay. I just would like to be sure no one else is expecting a 4 star experience.

Very impressed

This hotel exceeded my expectations. Great location; very close to Place Vendome, the Opera House, and the Louvre. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that the staff weren't very helpful when I asked them to recommend restaurants for breakfast and dinner. However, the hotel provides a breakfast buffet which is very good (boiled eggs, pancakes, pastries, meats, toast, nutella, fruit, yogurt, etc). Our hotel room was very clean and spacious and had a flat screen tv. The bathroom was huge with a jacuzzi tub. On our last day the shower had a problem and did not give us hot water. They fixed the problem within an hour and they let us check out of our hotel at a later time without getting charged so that we could finally use the shower. Good customer service. I would definitely stay there again.

Great find!

Great little boutique hotel, in an awesome location. Blocks from Louvre, Tulleries, and Opera house. Really nice neighborhood near the Ritz with many high end designer stores and great places to eat nearby. Very helpful and friendly staff, especially Stephen who works the desk at night. Rooms are well appointed and large for Paris. A bit noisy on the street side, but I'm not in Paris to sleep.

Best Paris Boutique Hotel

This is a great hotel, small but in a great location. Our room was very comfortable, great bed and pillows. The bathroom was good, plenty of hot water and well lit. The staff were very knowledgeable. Across the street is a great place for breakfast and breakfast in thye hotel was also good. Not far away is the Place St Honore which has several really nice restaurants. The metro, Les Pyramides isn't far away (about a ten minute stroll). The lift is small so two people and two suitcases fill it. It was very quiet hardly heard any of the other guests. We will definately stay here again.

Even Better Than Expected

We chose this hotel because of the reviews we read on Exedia. We were not disappointed. Sure, it's not the best hotel in Paris, but it was very comfortable, conveniently located, small and intimate, and the staff were all very friendly and very helpful. We would gladly stay in this hotel should we be lucky enough to visit Paris again.

Comfortable room in a nice location

Room was nice and large (by big European city standards) with a comfortable bed, desk, chair, closet, and HDTV w/ BBC World and a bunch of french channels. Bathroom and toilet clean and good sized, although it was a bit of a step up/down into/out of the tub/shower--use the grab handle!
The room was warm, even with the thermostat set at 16C, especially after a long walk on a warm day. The only way we could get it to cool off was by opening the window, which unfortunately lets in quite a bit of street noise.
Elevator is small, but enough for luggage and two people.
Staff was polite, friendly, and helpful.
We also thought the location was excellent. It is about a 500 m walk from the spot near the Opera where the RoissyBus from the airport drops off, and close to high-end Place Vendome and street shopping, trendy restaurants and cafes in a pedestrian-friendly area just to the southeast. The bakery just down the street has nice bread (olive bread excellent!) and sweets, as well as simple breakfasts. An easy walk to Tuileries Garden and the Louvre. (However, walk 4-5 blocks west towards La Madeleine Church, just past a Starbucks, and you're suddenly in a very small s e x shop area--very strange, but not particularly seedy or intimidating.)
Anyway, we loved the stay there and consider ourselves lucky to have found this hotel, having never visited Paris before.

great location

This hotel is in a great location near the Louvre, Tulleries and La Opera. Nice clean hotel, rooms are rather small. Breakfast is served but be warned that it is extra 18 euros per day unless your reservation specifically includes it.

Mercure Vendome - convenient, inexpensive

We thought this hotel was great - relatively inexpensive, well located, free wifi. The room was pretty big for Paris. The bathroom was also large but the shower was the kind that doesn't have a full door so the floor gets wet. Otherwise everything was great. We did not get the hotel breakfast because it was expensive and there are plenty of places around there.

Mercure Stendhal Place Vendome Paris-just right

It's a beautiful little hotel in a swank neighborhood, close to the Louvre, Les Halles, Comedie Francaise, the big department stores and the Roissy airport bus. A very helpful and friendly staff, fluent in English. I especially appreciated the noon check-in policy and the ample breakfast buffet included.

Very nice hotel in Paris

I moved to this hotel when I was not happy another hotel that I was orginally booked to stay and was very happy with the change.

For Mercure it is a smaller property, but in very good condition with very helpful staff and a nice breakfast. The room size was very good for a mid-priced hotel in the middle of Paris and the bath/shower were very clean and updated.

Internet service was a bit slow (perhaps many neighbors tapping into free access?) and the desk/workspace is not really meant for a business traveller, but overall it was a very good experience and I would go back when I am in Paris

Excellent location, comfortable room, will definitely stay there again next time

Our room on the top floor of the hotel was good size with a big double sink bathroom and separate toilet. There was tea and coffee making facilities.
All staff spoke English and were helpful; and we could check into our room by 10.30a.m.
It was centrally located, close to Pyramides, Tulliers, and Opera Metro stations, so it was really easy to get around.
There was a supermarket and a few restaurants in Place de Marche just 5 minutes from the hotel.
We had a very comfortable stay there.

Small hotel, great value

This is a small hotel with nice rooms in a great location just off Place Vendome. Easy to walk everywhere and lots of restaurants nearby. Forget the expensive breakfast -- there are several coffee/pastry shops nearby where you can get wonderful coffee and croisants for a few Euros.
We've stayed here twice and will return again when next in Paris. A good value.

Great location at a good price

What a great location. Walking distance to almost everything and also close to the metro. The reception area, entrance and lift are tiny, but the room was a great surprise. Roomy (by capital city standards) and very comfortable and very clean. Another surprise was tea and coffee making facilities - a rarity in Europe. There is a great little patiserie across the road that serves good coffee, excellent pastries and they even do eggs. Also nice to have robes supplied. All in all a good experience and if we are lucky enough to return again to Paris I will stay there.

Great location. Great value.

We picked this based on another review we read here on Expedia. I can confirm that the location is great not only for proximity to sites and the Metro but also proximity to the Roissy Bus which you can take from the airport. We arrived on Saturday morning and the bus took only 30 minutes to get into town. We were dropped off near the Opera House which was a block from the hotel.
The room was a good sized for European standards, bath was also large and clean. There is a street of about 12 outdoor cafes just a 1/2 block from the hotel. Would definitely stay here again.

We loved Paris - stayed for 4 days at the hotel and loved every minute - never felt unsafe - took the Roissybus from CDG short walk to the hotel. Metro was great and convenient - 3 metro stations close to hotel. Would go back in a minute

Fantastic Experience

We stayed for two nights in Paris and the hotel was a terrific experience. We were on a three week trip, had five pieces of luggage, and needed to go to the train early Sunday morning. We asked them to call a taxi which arrived early. Another taxi arrived at the same time and demanded that he have the fare or else be compensated. The concierge/receptionist handled it with a professionalism and class we have rarely witnessed. The driver was speaking loudly and aggressively, and she stood her ground. We were told to be escorted by the taxi that had been called and kept out of the way of what was obviously a nasty seen.

Perfect Hotel

I based my choice of this hotel on the other good traveler's reviews and I agree whole-heartedly with a 5 star rating especially considering the price. I will hopefully have the opportunity to stay here again. I can't emphasize enough the comfort level of the room, my husband and I hadn't slept that well in years.
