Bed not clean. Staff friendly.

The room is behind the reception. There’s no lock on the door. The duvet was very untidy when I checked in and it had a smell. No bedsheet. There was hair on the bed. There were plenty of shower rooms, small but clean. The hotel wasn’t hard to find but during the night there’s no street lamps. There was construction going on at 11pm, with drilling and hammering sounds.

Si cet hôtel a une hater, c’est moi. Si cet hôtel n’a plus de hater, c’est que je suis morte.

Sale, lits malpropres, planchers souillés, aucun matériel pour cuisiner, toutes les portes sont débarrés et tout le monde peut entrer sans clefs.
Pire séjour à vie. J’ai changé d’hôtel pour la 2e nuit.

I need my money back!!!

I refused to stay in the room i booked in Sylvabelle hotel in Marseille because it was filthy, stuffy, and did not feel safe.

The pictures shown on the booking site had nothing to do with the hotel i arrived to.

I tried to get a refund and i was told online i was too late.
I m extremely angry, upset and feel i have been roped. I did not stay in the hotel so i dont understand why i was charged for the dtay????

Run Away do NOT stay here!!

This hostel was DISGUSTING! The bathroom smelled like a porta potty. There were only 2 toilets and 2 showers for 10 beds, and one of the showers didn’t work and one of the toilets didn’t work. Of the shower that did actually work I couldn’t get hot water and it didn’t have a shower head. As a result there was always standing water on the floor. Booking said they give towels for bathroom they do NOT. They don’t even have soap in the bathroom for people to wash their hands when you use the toilet. Not to mention it’s a pigsty from construction, although I have no idea what they are working on because it’s absolutely filthy.

Basic but friendly

Very basic room with bed, shower, sink, shelf and bedside table. But, a massive sports event during my stay meant any available alternative hotel accommodation prices extremely expensive. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful and my decision to simply get on with the accommodation was readily taken and did not spoil my stay - I also recognised that fellow travellers at the hotel were equally polite and respectful.

Bad place for a holiday

Definitely not the best place to stay in Marseille. We’ve been there for one night, and the condition are far from the pictures and advertising. It’s more a hostel with the price of a hotel. The price was 85 Euro for one night. Small room, shower dirty and small. The shower drain was blocked, I told that to receptionist, which I understand was his first day, and nobody took any action. This is just a transit hostel, definitely not to book the place for a nice holiday with your family. You will ruin it.. Not recommended at all. Sorry

This hotel should NOT be on hotels.com. We reserved a bedroom for 3 guests - after checking in, we realized we were only given 2 pillows (even though we had paid for a room for 3 people), we only had 1 (dirty/stained) towel, the beds were NOT made and the light in the bathroom did not work. The staff was extremely rude and not helpful at all. Our room was located right next to the 'lobby' and we could hear the employee talking all night on the phone and watching TV.

Eventually, the employee gave us a third 'pillow' (it actually was a couch cushion that he simply put in a pillow case) and one more towel. We finally had to make our own beds. We asked again about the light in the bathroom, to which he replied he was NOT gonna do anything about it. So we had no light to shower/use the bathroom for our entire stay at Hotel Sylvabelle.

Do yourself a favour and AVOID this hotel.

Don't. Just don't.

We booked this and actually refused to stay here when we got to Marseilles. The Travelocity folks were kind enough to refund us our stay, and we booked a very nice hotel just a few blocks away.

Dirty. Very dirty. Smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. Beds were made with sheets and no blankets. A tug of the sheet revealed a very stained and worn bed underneath. There was a shower and a sink in the room, but no toilet. The shared toilet was a little closet with NO SINK to wash your hands.

The entryway was duct-taped open, despite a notice telling visitors that it was secure and to buzz the front desk for entry. The duct tape looked like it had been there for quite some time.

There was another note inside the door, spelling out the rules for this property as a youth hostel. Perhaps a young, desperate person could make use of this \"hotel\" but we refused to.

Worst Accommodation of my trip

This was most definitely the worst hotel of my trip. I was really disappointed as it had reasonable reviews beforehand!

I had booked a single standard room, as I wasn't there for long, but wish it was even less time!

First impressions - the room smelt really, really bad. Even with the window opened fully for an hour, it had not disappeared. This smell was bad enough to get me looking for the source, which was unfortunately not found until later in the story... Upon inspection, the room definitely was not clean. I don't know what cleaners they use, but they should definitely be getting new ones. Luckily, the mattress was clean and reasonably comfortable. I would have probably booked a room elsewhere, however, the WiFi didn't work, so that ruled that out.

Now, that smell... well... it turns out when you have a shower, the water leaks out and onto the bedroom floor... creates a massive puddle (where your now soaked bag is) and doesn't have anywhere to drain.

I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone!

damp room with a curtain hanging off the wall; no security and strange distant staff; got my map nicked off my bed; i had just bought it and no one seemed to care when i complained; then i was told i was too early for breakfast at 720 when it clearly stated on the wall brakfast was 700. then i went out to a gig and told i had to be home by 1am;: ok!!!

Really disappointed with this place. our females bathroom was in the males area. You had to pay for a towel and even for a pillowcase which is ridiculous. There was no key to the room so anyone could walk in whenever they liked. Really didn't like the place and couldn't wait to get out. I guess you get hat you pay for though.

You get what you pay for

It wasn't great. I stayed in the dorm rooms and they offered the bare essentials: a bed, some sheets, lockers, and running water. No soap, hand towels, etc. You have to pay extra to use a pillow cover! Gross! Toilets and showers were pretty gross when I stayed as well.

Had a couple people smoking in the room in the middle of the night, even though there were many signs saying no smoking.

And DO NOT waste your money on the \"breakfast\". 5€ can get you much more at any boulangerie or cafe than what they give you--half a baguette, a hotdog bun, a little cheese, apricot jelly, butter, orange juice (not bad), and coffee (also not that bad). Go somewhere else for breakfast.

Overall, you get what you pay for. It's a place to stay for a night or two rather cheaply, that's for sure. But it might be worth the money to stay somewhere nicer.

Decent hotel, good location

Hotel Sylvabelle is decent and comfortable. We were satisfied with the spaciousness of the room and the comfort of the beds. The toilet is not in the room, so slightly inconvenient. I enjoyed the hot water available downstairs. The reception was staffed 24/7. The staff were very knowledgable about the city. The location is super, minutes away from the old port on foot, a bit longer to the train station (st.charles) but right around the corner from a metro station.
The biggest con was that the hotel would only hold our luggage until 14h00 after which the fee was 10€. This was sure inconvenient because it's cheaper to store at the train station but that's too far away to go back and forth - you'd miss out on other better things. Result:we walked around with our luggage :/ Not super.

Nice Location, close to old port

Overall all, it was positive experience due to the great location of the place in the heart of Marseilles, Cheap price for the shared Dormitory.. it is relatively clean but has no kitchen or common room, although these exist on the first floor next to the reception but not used.. Don't know why?!! It is just a sleeping place, and not the usual happy hostel experience... Most of the staff were serious and not bothered apart from Anka, the German receptionist who was cheerful, helpful and provide good assistance in general.

Good basic accommodation especially for short stay

I stayed for a few nights on my own in the women's dormitory, on my way to another city. The room was in good condition and kept very clean. The staff was friendly, and the man I assumed was the owner was particularly humorous and hospitable. He helped me arrange a taxi to the train station early in the morning. I did wish there was a kitchen and common space to hang out, since I had no travel partner at the time. But the neighborhood seemed okay; maybe a 10 or 15-minute walk from Vieux Port and there are cafes and a Monoprix grocery nearby. All in all Sylvabelle provided what I needed, and I had a good stay. Would recommend.

Clean and welcoming

Good location in relation to Notre Dame de la Garde and other sights on the south side of Vieux Port. The port itself is not far away, just down a fairly long road. The hotel was welcoming and quaint, and the room clean and comfortable. We didn't have the breakfast, simply because I'm a coeliac and the breakfast wasn't gluten free but, at 5 euros, I'd say it's worth having. The road was quiet, apart from the odd motorbike. Overall it was a pleasant stay and ideal for our needs.

I was in Europe with my wife for 3 weeks. We stayed in everything from 16-bed hostel rooms to a Hilton. Among all of them, this was by far the worst. Our room smelled terrible, and when we mentioned it, they just shrugged and said they'd put an air freshener in the room (they didn't). The whole place was falling apart. Our shower was pretty gross and the drain was clogged (mentioned it to staff, no help), and the sink was leaking from the bottom. Also, as far as the bed, no amount of lying to ourselves could convince us that the comforter had been washed ...ever. Just stay somewhere else. Seriously.

My daughter, 29, liked it, and I am double her age. This hotel is definitely for some one younger than me and with stamina.

no shower, no costumer service

So, this was, I admit, cheap. What bothered me most:
The bath: had a bathtub and handle. That would be fine if there something to hang it on the wall, but there was not. The result, you have to sit or kneel to bathe, and use one hand to wash yourself.
Now, I could, maybe, get over that, if people at the hotel were nice. The day people were ok, but the guy at night was completely unhelpful. Wireless connection not working? can't help you. People at the next room having a party with loud music? Can't help you.
All in all, if you want cheap above all, go for it.

She made it very clear that she did not like to help me, when i asked her about buses, if theres christmas mass at the cathedral, all she told me was \"i dont know\".

Cheap And Parisian Near The Nightlife

A good bargain if you like Parisian basic with a very home-grown artsy interior and very clean, somewhat new rooms with spacious interior. No AC though, so skip it in the summer.

It's one block from the Metro to everywhere including train station two stops away, a 10 minute walk from the marina where all of the nightlife and restaurants are. Big living room lobby with Internet access.
Make sure you book it online. They promised to hold a room for my return a few days later, but gave it away. The manager almost cried about it, but...

Everything in this hotel is below any standard so think twice before deciding to stay in this hotel. rOOM was dirty with bad furniture and bad smell. There is no lift so we had to use stairs to reach 3rd floor, I couldnt sleep due the noisy outside. I do not recommend this hotel...Reception didn t tell me at checkin that I suppose book breakfast. We paid 4 euros for 2 pieces of old bread and croissant jam and coffee.

Hotel Sylvabelle - for the early nighter!

The hostel was pleasant and clean, located in a good area (although the street the hotel was actually on was less nice), and the staff were helpful and, for the most part, pleasant. I would recommend it to people who have little interest in exploring the nightlife in Marseille as the hostel has a relatively early curfew (11pm). If you are more likely to want to have a late night out however, I would look elsewhere.

Good location with a near by metro station. There is an area close to it has many cafes and restaurants.
The bathroom area was clean and in general the hostel was a nice and clean place to stay at.
I liked that they offer extra lockers with key within reach to your room (with a cost).
It was a bit noisy since the rooms window was right by a pretty busy street at nights.
Marseille was not exactly what I expected but I enjoyed having a base place like this hotel to stay at nights and travel around the Provence during the day.
The description of a single room within a dorm was a bit confusing. Recently I stayed in a place in spain that offered a small private room, with a shared bathroom, in the back area of a hostel room, which made me think that was the same thing that I was booking for... Would suggeset to calrify that it is a dorm room, with bunk beds and shared with 4 people.
It was convinient to have breakfast offered there for a low cost.

The hotel is really easy to find, just down the road from a central tube station.
My room was clean and comfortable. The shower looked like an untrained somebody had thrown it together but it got the job done. When I realised just one toilet would be shared between 5/6 rooms I was concerned, but everyone is out most of the time so it was fine.
The breakfast is extremely basic, a croissant, some french bread, jam/honey, a hot beverage and juice. But the dining room is clean and sweet.
Overall the hotel was basic but comfortable. The access to free wi-fi was a great extra.

the Hotel is situated 10mins away from the Old Port. For a one star hotel it was pretty good. we had a simple but delicious bfast everyday and towels changed everyday. Two main drawback were the walls dividing the rooms... noise from the other rooms could be easily heard and the staff did not speak English so language was a bit of a problem. we enjoyed our stay at the end.

Great clean hotel for the sights

Great hotel, friendly and helpful staff. Nice continental breakfast & the staff even help out with the travel arrangements. Great location, under 8 mins walk to Port Vieux, so great for most attractions, the main nightlife areas & the majority of the best restaurants are also south of the port. Only qualm is that the bathroom door in our room didn't close which could have been embarassing if we were a mixed group. Could have just been the room, Otherwise a cracking place to stay.

Good if you're on a budget

This hotel was not too hard to find, it's near a metro stop so getting there from the train station was pretty easy. The reception staff was friendly and helpful for area activities. The shared toilet was clean, but we did not have towels in our room, so you might want to bring your own. Within walking distance from Notre Dame de la Garde and the vieux port if you're willing to take the time. It was quiet and clean, and we were satisified with our stay.

Close to metro and sightseeing. Neat, cute and well-maintained. Nice pictures in the room. Our room didn't have any view, all we saw was concrete wall. There is no internet. They forgot to wake us up one of the mornings. They let us leave our luggage in the reception. Overall I would come back there and would recommend it to others.

The hotel is run-down and old fashioned. There is no lift and we were on the third floor. There was a tiny box shower in the room and we had to share a toilet with two other rooms. The service was Ok , but not particularly friendly or helpful. Basically a back-packer's hotel, whereas the price leads you to expect something better.

Don´t think I would book it again

The two good things about this hotel is that it´s within easy walking distance of the centre and also has a metro station close by. Another bonus is the rather low price, but in this case you get what you pay for. The rooms are relatively clean but don´t seem to be recently refurbished. Caution when booking is recommended as the hotels only have four rooms with a toilet in the bathrooms, the rest of the guests have to share one in the hall. I stayed in two rooms and the bathroom in both rooms smelled of sewage for unknown reasons.

Hôtel dans un état lamentable, installation électrique vétuste, literie de très mauvaise qualité, entretien déplorable (peinture sur les poignées de portes, joint de faïence sur les murs, etc.) mais surtout, malgré la présence permanente d'un personnel à l'accueil, des 'voisins' de chambre extrêmement bruyants (musique, voix haute) jusqu'à 3h du matin sans que le gardien, situé à quelques mètres de la chambre, n'intervienne.

Par ailleurs, les photos du site ne reflètent absolument pas la réalité !!!

Bonjour, déjà à mon arrivée pas de parking comme précisé. Formalité d’accueil je prends la chambre 12, forte odeur de peinture le lit manque des lattes une seule serviette pour 3 personnes, je redescends à l’accueil pour un changement de chambre, chambre 17 constatée par vous même sur les photos.
Du coup je ne suis pas resté et j’ai heureusement trouver autre chose plus confortable.
J’ai essayé de vous joindre pour faire une réclamation, impossible!
Comment faire pour être remboursé?

Chambre avec un dégât des eaux ancien, le matelas très dur et le coussin trop épais. Le lit n'était pas fait, il y avait juste le drap plié sur le lit et une seule serviette de bain pour deux personnes.

Bon accueil, dortoir impeccable, couette douce...
La lumière de chevet ne fonctionnait pas, mais celle des toilettes s'allumait à chaque fois que quelqu’une y allait ce qui était gênant passé une certaine heure (notamment avec la puissance importante de l'ampoule).
Hôtel très bien situé et calme, la nuit fut quand même agréable et reposante.

Pas de lampes de chevet,douche étroite,pn a été obligés de demander la deuxième serviette 2 fois,pas de serviette pour essuyer les mains non plus.. Hôtel nécessite des travaux de rafraichissement de peinture également.

Malgré un emplacement idéal, l'hôtel est vétuste sans ascenseur. Hygiène douteuse de la chambre et de la salle de bain. Literie basique mais confortable. Carré de douche difficile d'accès pour les personnes moyennement fortes. Pas de climatisation et pas d'ascenseur.
On voit cependant que l'hôtel est en train de rénover certaines chambres mais pour le moment cela est insuffisant... Dommage.

Lit très confortable en chambre et serviette de bain de qualité. Par contre, des gens étaient bruyants en rentrant à 2h30/3h du matin et m’ont réveillée. Ils parlaient et rigolaient à voix haute … pas d’insonorisation et chambre vétuste ( joint douche, rideaux, …, pas d’ascenseur ). Pour le prix, je ne m’attendais pas à mieux donc dans l’ensemble ça va, surtout que la literie est de qualité ! Et c’est un peu l’essentiel :)
