Our room in the annex at the back of the garden was lovely: quiet, clean, spacious (on two levels), well decorated. The staff is helpful, always available. The garden is a big bonus and the hotel is very well positioned in Marseilles and at walking distance from the main train station and the Old Harbour.

Street outside smelled like urine, open dumpsters and trash. Lobby and entrance could be so much better if marble floors were cleaned and shined and door brass polished. Very basic room which was fine, if not for smell of cigarettes, staff very helpful. Bed comfortable and quiet.

I found a lot of dust in the room. The worst part is that there was black mold around the bathroom sink. Yuck, I had paid for two nights, but checked out after one. The place isn’t anything like the pretty photographs. The property is located in a sketchy neighborhood. Overall, it was an unpleasant experience.

Charming, North African style hotel near Marseille Centre. Friendly staff and comfortable room. The side street it was on was a little dodgy but there were great restaurants nearby and it’s a short walk to the Vieux Port and to many nice boutiques and cafes. I didn’t feel unsafe walking around at night because I was with my husband and tall son.

Very kind hosts but the place could use a little care. The room was really bare and
absolutely no amenities, not even hand soap. There was mold in the mini fridge…. It’s sad because the place has potential and attention was given to décor and interior design that is simple and elegant enough. However, everything else pretty much fails…

Terrible neighborhood, so sketchy and seedy. This area gave us a bad opinion of Marseille until we left the neighborhood and realized the city has so much beauty. The hotel staff were very nice and the hotel had some charming qualities. It was cute inside but be careful if you stay here, it’s rough outside! Not a good place to walk around after dark.

Good hotel and lovely staff. We did stay in the superior room. Only hiccup was our taxi did not turn up for our flight back which the hotel organised so probably best to make your own arrangements. However they did their best to resolve this for us. The outside garden at the back was a nice touch.

We didn’t stay here as planned. The property was advertised as family friendly however is located on a 3-4 block area of brothels. A local person insisted on us following her to the front of the hotel and warned us not to stay there for the area. The hotel may very well be in great condition and accessible to transport; however it is NOT recommended for families. The hotel and Expedia were unwilling to refund us, not even for the second night, even though we cancelled the reservation right away upon arrival.

We had a very good two night stay. All the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly; we sensed they really wanted us to enjoy and appreciate Marseille...and we did. Comfortable beds, nice and spacious room, calm garden. We loved the neighborhood; very close to food, shopping, the old harbor and transport.

Warm welcome and attentiveness throughout our stay from the staff/owners. The hotel features a serene outdoor courtyard where we ate our breakfast in nature and tranquility. The hotel rooms really made me feel as though I was transported to another place and time...This was the most memorable boutique hotel I have ever had the pleasure to experience. Bravo, Hotel Ryad! Not sure I would stay here again.

Room was nice and spacious. Bed was comfortable. The host was very helpful when we checked in. After that, we got no service. Our room was not cleaned or trash emptied. Location is in an alleyway. Alley didn’t feel especially safe at night.

The Ryad is in a good location for sightseeing/eating in a busy city but the hotel itself seems a little tired...! The room was comfortable and big, bathroom was grand but overall the room could have done with a little fixing up and a good clean. The staff were really friendly and this isn’t a bad hotel at all, just not a great one.

Stay elsewhere if stairs are a problem or if you want to be close to the nightlife (the hotel is a \"5\" for me, but not everyone would be able to deal with the stairs).

Great little hotel situated in a perfect location to walk round the key areas of teh city. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The hotel itself is not the most modern, but is quaint and authetic to the arabian theme. Super comfy bed too! Wifi was a bit poor and could have provided a bit more shower gel/shampoo. But overall all a great value stay,

Hotel Le Ryad is small and delightful. All the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and the room had everything we could have wished for with a very comfortable bed and great en suite facilities. Cant wait to go back to Marseille and will definitely stay at Le Ryad again.

this is a quaint hotel with lovely staff. The rooms are spacious with lovely decor. Breakfast is great with home made specialties from a local baker. We were only there one night due to family emergency but our one night was comfortable. I would say that for people who are not frequent travelers, the surrounding neighborhood may be a little unsettling compared to other parts of the city. However, that being said the hotel is a great place to stay with great staff. It is about a ten minute stroll to the waterfront and close to many restaurants. We would stay again if in Marseilles.

Beautiful Marseille hotel, minutes from the port

Situated a few minutes walk from both the main port and Cours Julien, Le Ryad hotel was perfect. The hotel itself is a beautiful old townhouse, and our room was huge, offering all the comforts one could want, including a delicious breakfast. The staff were incredibly friendly, going above and beyond to make sure we were happy. I would definitely stay again.

Perfectly located boutique hotel

Le Ryad Boutique Hotel was an excellent accommodation option in Marseille, perfectly located near the Old Port (5 min walk) and close to tons of shops, restaurants and public transport. The room we got (#2) was extremely spacious by European standards, as was the bathroom (with a rain shower!). The hotel has high ceilings and nice decorative touches, and a wonderful garden. Our stay was very enjoyable, for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Nice hotel, but don't stay on the ground floor

The hospitality, decor, and breakfasts were excellent. Our room was nicely decorated. The location is a bit dodgy, but it is walking distance to most tourist destinations. Unfortunately, we were placed in the only room on the main floor, directly off of the lobby. At the time of our stay there was only one of the other 10 rooms occupied. Being practically in the lobby we did not have much privacy from the comings and goings of other guests and the staff. In addition, we were at street level and the sound from the street was very loud. The first night a few fights broke out on the street and the second night we were kept awake by people hanging outside our window. Overall our experience would have been much more pleasant had we been placed in another room that was not directly on the street.

If you do stay here request not to stay in the Atlas room. That was the advice we were given when we checked out and provided this feedback, that next time we visited we could ask to stay in another room.

Lovely feel to the hotel. Communal areas are relaxing, and there's a lovely garden where you can breakfast. Bedroom was comfortable and functioned well, though bit of a warning that it could be on the 4th floor with no lift! Beautiful old building though, with lots of character, so worth it. Staff very friendly and helpful - lots of personal touches eg with breakfast, and the owner is very willing to offer advice re places to visit, directions etc.

Great hotel, close to port & bus/train station.

I booked this hotel for a one-night stay to transit between an evening train ride and an early flight the following morning. The St. Charles bus/train station is a 5 minute walk and offers frequent bus service to the airport. The hotel is also a 5 minute walk from the port area where there are many restaurants. The hotel was perfect. There is no elevator, so you have to carry your bags up several flights of stairs (4 flights for me). If you pack light, this is not an issue. The room was not large, but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was roomy. The staff were wonderful. The evening clerk was friendly, provided helpful dining suggestions, and even loaned an umbrella for a rainy night. The morning clerk provided an early breakfast of coffee, fresh-squeezed orange juice, warm bread, and jams. I was sorry that I could not have stayed longer.

Consider Le Ryad

The Le Ryad is an older facility with around ten rooms. The shortcomings of the physical facility were overcome by the extraordinary attentiveness of the staff. They did everything possible to make our stay a pleasant one. One morning a nice breakfast. Later we learned that she had bought the hotel just a few months ago. I would like to wish her great success in this new endeavor. I would certainly return for another stay, if only my wife will go.

We visited Marseilles in late November, early December. Le Ryad is a small hotel placed reasonably close to old port area of the city and is nicely placed. The room was comfortable for our purposes, and we were particularly impressed with the professionalism of front desk staff. The hotel is secure and requires a key code for entry.

Nice staff, large room, comfy beds, but as others had mentioned neighborhood is not the greatest but that's just Marseille; their not exactly weathy, so seeing the real economic situation and realizing their just people trying to live is what exploring a new place is all about.

Short stay in Marseilles. Used trip advisor for hotel possibilities. Thought we were coming to a boutique-like hotel. A little disappointed in facility, however, the owners were delightful and very helpful to give advise on activities/sites to see in the city. Room was a good size, appeared clean and bathroom had been updated. Beds were comfy.

Good Marseille atmosphere

We were very happy with our stay at Hotel Ryad in Marseille. That said, I should clarify that we asked to change our first room which was quite austere and required mounting 80 steps ( no elevator) to a more expensive but very pleasant and quiet room in back. The staff was most obliging. Although others have criticized the neighborhood and there were prostitutes in the street outside, we did not feel at all threatened and enjoyed the \"Marseille\" atmosphere. We did not take the breakfast because it seems expensive and we found a wonderful cafe nearby.

I booked a room explicitly with internet access. Wifi was not available at all in my room and I was forced to change rooms. Even that room did not have wifi access forcing me to stand by the door to get any access and even then was intermittent. The rooms particularly the floors are not clean and would be the simplest and easiest thing to improve. The shower head fell off at one point. I would not stay here again. Having said that the service is friendly.

The hotel was quite pleasant clean and comfortable although we didnt get much sleep as it was extremely noisy all night long! We had a room on the third floor so after a day of sightseeing all day a long walk up the stairs was very tiring. The breakfast was superb with homemade bread, freshly squeezed orange juice and lovely coffee - we ate on one occasion in the garden which was very pleasant. The staff were very professional.

An oasis of calm and harmony in a busy city

Very warm, efficient and friendly staff, delicious breakfast, large and comfortable room. One regret, the weather didn't allow to enjoy the patio, an oasis of calm. We also found the central location - and the proximity of the train station, particularly convenient. We were a bit worried with previous comments about ladies of the night in the street, but found the area far calmer than anticipated.

Literie, douche, le peu de bruit et la gentillesse du personnel étaient exceptionnels. Cet hôtel est très bien situé dans un quartier fort sympathique.
Moins appréciés cependant les aspects suivants: la clé pour verrouiller ou déverrouiller la porte d’entrée fonctionnait très mal et nous obligeait à faire appel au personnel à chaque fois. Chambre très petite et pièce au rdc mal équipée. Le Hall de l’hôtel et les meubles sont très défraîchis. Mais compte tenu du positif, nous sommes quand même satisfaites de notre expérience.

I won't miss this place

I blamed myself for reserving this accomadation for my family. It was fine, but i believe for what it cost you can get much much better. The walls are thin and you can hear yelling most of the night from other rooms, the room was coldn and teh heater didn't seem to work. The best heater was the one in the bathroom... but you can't stay in eth bathroom all night.
