The rooms were spacious the hallways wide and open. The restaurant where breakfast was served was not clean by any description . The hotel suffered from repeated power outages and wifi was questionable at times. The hotel had a very strange policy that a guest in your room for more than 5 minutes would result in an additional daily charge and no food or drink could be brought onto the property. I believe this property has an Expedia 4.2 rating I find that hard to believe.

This place was very lush and relaxing. The breakfast buffet was pretty descent- get an omelette from the omelette station, delicious! The pool made for a relaxing soak after a long day exploring Angkor Wat. This hotel is a 15 min tuk tuk ride from downtown Siem Reap, so we also visited the peaceful riverfront area- lots of good cafes there! We ate at the hotel restaurant one night and it was delicious. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious.

Is it really a 4 stars hotel?

We spent 4 days 3 nights there. it was the first time for us to visit Cambodia, we are really attracted by the temple carvings but disappointed with the facilities in the hotel: the swimming pool is small, it looks dirty.

Pictures are deceiving, overpriced

Positives: hotel staff was very friendly in the lobby.
Negatives: - bed was rock hard
- everything within the hotel is overpriced (drinks restaurant, tours etc)
- far from the main area of siem reap
- plates and cutlery were dirty
- pool was dirty-rats running around by pool
- had to ask several times for clean towels
- staff around pool and in restaurants made the females on our trip feel uncomfortable

Overall, can get a much better room and experience at a different hotel for the same or lower cost.
Stay within walking distance of old market.

Excellent dining facilities, staff very helpful, large room, good air-conditioner.
The hotel pool was a bit too warm to be refreshing. It was the warmest pool I've ever swum in.
Staff were very helpful.
Despite the extremely hot weather the shower in our room was never actually hot (we stayed 4 nights) - it was warm, & satisfactory but not really hot.
This sounds racist, but one concern was the large number of noisy Chinese (Koreans?) who don't show enough consideration for other guests. Their habits of picking their nose in public, spitting, very loud conversation, sneezing loudly without covering their mouth, etc, are off-putting. This is not the fault of the hotel - they need the business.
Perhaps all hotels in Siem Reap suffer from the same problem.

Truly Royal : Justifying The Name

We stayed here for 3 nights.

We liked :-

1. Room was very clean, spacious and functional. The amount of wood work inside the room and in general in entire hotel area was amazing.

2. Hotel staffs were generally very polite and were always ready to help.

3. We booked car for our visit to Angkor Wat from the transport desk of the hotel and were surprised by the royal treatment provided to us. The driver used to provide cold towel & mineral water every time he found that we are sweating or looking tired. The cold towel and chilled water were life saver and very refreshing especially after walking and climbing for hours in hot weather.

4. We reached the hotel at around 9 AM and check in time was around 2 PM but, once we requested, not only they provided the room but also made sure that we had our breakfast for that day.

5. The free pick and drop facility was also great. The driver was very polite and helpful.

Over all the hotel justifies it's name - They really provide a royal treatment.

We did NOT like

1. Presence of house flies in the restaurant ( I don't understand the reason behind this because it was really very clean.)

2. Poor wifi inside the hotel rooms.

The hotel is very good and has so many rooms and other facilities. The lovely breakfast and has so many choices for the travelers. We enjoyed our 5 nights stay in this hotels before heading to Sihanoukville.
The staff are very friendly people and they organized everything for you if you need help . We would recommend to everyone who would travel to Siem Reap.

Hotel tell was an interesting experince

My friend and I are both young girls and while we are both travellersand know that customs and differ, we both felt the the male staff at the restruant and breakfast buffet were very creepy and even asked for our room number as they hovered around us. Other than this the staff were very attentive though they did try to push their services on us a lot. The room was beautiful, as was the pool and set out of the hotel. Was happy with the breakfast but it wasn't amazing and the gym was old and rusty. over all the hotel was ok. Felt the room was what we paid for but everything else wasn't.

comfortable hotel and away from crowd

I stayed there for 3 nights. My booking included pick up / drop off service. However, my flight was 90 min delay and so I was not picked up. Siem Reap is very small so it only cost $7USD to get to the hotel anyway. it is about 10 minutes from the airport. I think they can improve on that. They were very on time when they took me back to the airport on their own nice clean car. it take around 7 minutes on tuktuk to get to the heart of the night market /night life. the room, the pool, the bed, the mattress, the shower, the water pressure are quite comfortable. The wifi is unstable. However, my friends live in Siem Reap told me that the network was not very good in the area. I assume it may be the case in other hotels. This is the hotel I would like to come back.

'for improvement: my friends told me that flight arrival times are available on internet and TV. So it was a shame that management fail to check arrival time and so their staff was waiting for me for hour and I was not picked up.

The hotel is a bit old, but with the price and the free airport transport, it is still a good value. The trip organized by the hotel was very comfortable too with aircon car and cold water and towel stored in the car is very thoughtful.

Fabulous hotel!

My family of 5 adults had 2 rooms and stayed here for 4 nights. The rooms were clean, spacious and functional.

It was one of the most enjoyable and care-free trip for us. Thanks to the hotel team of polite and pleasant staff.

Particularly, we want to thank to Mr Sokkol who personally fetched us from the airport. He also helped to plan as well as to arrange for an excellent, relaxing and economical 3-days tour. His service attitude was commendable.

Many thanks also to Mr Narin, the driver assigned by the hotel to fetch from the airport, for the 3-day tour and also back to the airport on our last day. His service was exemplary and beyond his call of duty. For example, on the second day of our tour, we were caught in the rain at Angkor Thom. Mr Narin brought a few umbrellas into Angkor Thom and looked for us in the park to shelter us back to his car. When the weather was scorching hot, he offered us cool towels and cold mineral water which were very refreshing especially after walking and climbing for hours under the oppressive heat.

Our visit to Angkor Wat and the other amazing temples was made very enjoyable by Sokkol and his team! From the free airport pick-up, the welcome drinks upon arrival to the hotel, the guidance in booking our tour of the ruins, recommendations on where to eat and what to do in Siem Reap, up until the complimentary transfer to the bus station to get to our next destination allowed for a very relaxing and stress free holiday!

Excellent hotel in Siam Reap

The staff was excellent and always looked after us. Our fare included airport transport in an air conditioned car. The breakfast buffet was very good. The breakfast room was very busy at peak time. We enjoyed the pool very much. Wifi needs improvement as it was only sometimes available in our room. The room was very big and clean. Tv had deutsche welle and many other good movie programmes. We booked tours with driver and tour guide which was absolutely comfortable (ice cooled towels and water). Highly recommended.

everything was really good. no complaints really, given the condition of the country. the hotel staff were amazing attending to our needs & questions. they even organised a personal tour for both my dad & i around the temples with unlimited cold towels & water, which is of great help after all the walking under the scorching weather. the only down side was the wifi that was hard to access in the rooms. but we has awesome connectivity in the lobby.

Great base to explore Angkor temples

Great hotel slightly out of the city centre to explore Angkor temples. When you want to explore Siem Reap it is 3 dollars one way by hotel tuk tuk.

Hired hotel tuk tuk for day trips to explore temple complexes over 2 days. Our driver was called Tra and he was great - would highly recommend asking for him. We payed 17 dollars (US) for each day trip and he was able to recommend extra temples to fit in on our planned route.

Had Khmer massages at the hotel and would highly recommend. Good price and with hotel promotions was very happy with the service provided.

Siem Reap is a very touristy place so beyond exploring the temples, the city itself is your standard supporting layout - lots of international bars, markets etc. A really nice place but not a reflection of the rest of Cambodia.

We had a fantastic stay at Royal Empire Hotel. The staff arranged aick up from the airport and were very welcoming when we arrived at the hotel. Our room was large and spacious and over looked the swimming pool. Can't find any fault with the hotel and the best thing about it was the fantastic staff who were able to help with anything we required.

This is a good place, we just had some troubles with breakfast time that run from 6 am to 10 am. Some days we showed up around 9:40 and the staff were already cleaning and taking away the food.
Also we we're there close to the Chinese New Year celebration so the place was full and took us some time to find available table at breakfast!

Not impressed.

Everything was a disappointment, from the clogged shower drain (and subsequent bathroom flood) to the poor service (not once but twice) at the restaurant (where it took well over an hour for food to arrive, while we were the only patrons), to the noisy rooms due to paper thin walls (and tour groups arriving at 4am), to the bugs in the room. This hotel is located on the main road, but with nothing in walking distance.

Comfortable, Clean Rooms, Great Pool!

The room itself was clean and nicely decorated. It was kind of odd that we had a shower in our bedroom, with the toilet and sink being in a separate room. But the glass was frosted so it wasn't too big of a deal.

The staff was excellent, the front desk will set up any of the temple tours you want to do at a very reasonable price (for the tuktuks). If you tried to set it up by yourself, you'll likely pay much more than what they've had the drivers agree to. They will also help with any other travel needs you might need, they helped us arrange bus tickets through Giant Ibis.

The hotel itself was great, like most hotels everything is overpriced compared to the street prices.

The spa only offered massages, no nails or anything else. But the pool looked great! Very well decorated and classy.

The breakfast buffet was well stocked with plenty of options from breakfast food, to lunch food, to Asian food, European/ Western food.

Great place to stay for the price, only downside was it was a 10min tuktuk ride into town, each time you wanted to go. But it was closer to the airport.

Not as nice as expected

We had just spent a few nights at a much lower cost hotel that gave better service. Yes this place is nice looking, but due to its size, unless you are a large tour group, it is hard for them to give you a high level of service that a smaller place can easily do. Their breakfast was large, but not high quality and it is everyone for themselves when you compete against the large tour groups. The stay was just fine and was close to the airport which is why we chose it, but for the price, there a many other options for less that are better.

Fantastic hotel, staff, location. I can't say enough positive things about our stay. Because we stayed 3 nights they upgraded us, gave us free dinner , and a massage. The staff were exceptional. Book your tours through them as well, cheaper than on street. This hotel is amazing.

This hotel was worth every penny. It wasn't very expensive to start with and the services and facilities you receive for your money were worth it! The staff knew English and the room was very comfortable and looked better than the photo on the internet.

The hotel is only a short tuk tuk ride from pub street. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Staff was welcoming ,had good 30mins free massage , free airport shuttle, Had no problem with room, comes with 2 free mineral waters bottles everyday, bathroom was clean and working hot shower. Wi-fi sometimes slow and depending on room spot , so a little inconvenient at times.As I needed only 15 mins tops to whatsapp loved ones, It was manageable. , Other than that it's great. Also average tut-tut far to night market is $3 but try your luck to get it $2 (got that fare few times).

This hotel could be lovely if it was properly maintained and service wasn't so hit-and-miss. We were given a lovely room, but the floor and surfaces were covered with a layer of dirt. This made us laugh because we regularly stay in backpacker-type places, and here we were splashing out on a 4-star (?dubious) and couldn't even use the bath due to sticky filth that couldn't be cleaned in the 4 days we were there. Breakfast buffet was demolished and unreplenished by the time we arrived each morning. On our way to check out, the doors of the lift opened to a smoked-out lobby -- we held our breath and ran through -- reception let us know it wasn't fire, they had just pesticide-bombed the place, unannounced. It wouldn't take much to turn things around if the management team focused on service and cleanliness, so don't be totally turned off by this review -- it was Khmer New Year so things may not have been as good as usual.

Greatest staff, waited on us hand and foot, the breakfast was excellent, the staff in the breakfast room waited on us and brought plant to the table and got me my breakfast and my coffee. The pool was nice, but open for view by all going and coming in the hotel. The greeting was the best with fresh juice, and the hotel made all the arrangements with tour guide and taxi driver and all the necessary things for a very pleasant visit to the hotel and to the local attractions. The staff spoke and understood English which was a big bonus for us, and they took the best care of us and made sure we had a massage before we left for travel to PP....!!!! Great Place Great Staff..!!! We would do this hotel again.

Great hotel, friendly staff!

Recently three friends and myself stayed at the royal empire hotel whilst volunteer teaching at two schools in Siem Reap. Throughout our stay we really enjoyed the beautiful pool, buffet breakfast, easy and quick wi fi and the spa and massage services. Most of all we were very happy with the service of the staff. All were very very friendly and would always enjoy a chat. They were very greatful and thankful for the service we were providing for the children of Siem Reap. We had an excellent breakfast waiter, a fantastic tuk tuk driver who would be ready for us at any time of the day and would pick us up from pub street at whatever time we wanted. The guest relation gentleman Sokol at the front reception was fantastic, always greeting us by name and wanting to hear about our day. He would also teach us Cambodian words. Very pleased with this hotel and would recommend to anyone wanting somewhere affordable and comfortable.

good location. welcoming staff.

the hotel is conveniently located halfway between the airport and the town proper. we were met at the airport and transported to the hotel in 2 cars because there were 5 of us. despite of our late arrival at 10 pm, we were warmly greeted at the lobby by Tra who asked us to sit down and relax while they brought us our welcome drink. He helped us check in and helped arrange our tours.( it was worth paying for a van with an english speaking guide rather than taking a tuktuk). he then escorted us to our rooms that were overlooking the swimming pool.we booked 2 rooms and the rooms were spacious even with an extra bed.i had no problem with the very firm mattress.i liked the bathroom with its separate shower and bath. breakfast was good but it can get crowded and noisy at times if you chance upon a big tour group coming down to eat at the same time. the hotel was also considerate enough to give us a place to shower and change after we've checked out earlier in the day. our flight was at 10pm so they also kept our luggage for us until it was time to go to the airport.

Cheap sleepover but terrible facility

It's a cheap hotel I got to say, and maybe good value if you just need a place to sleep over and nothing else. Facility does not exist in this hotel. The night I arrived the hotel lobby was terribly hot, apparently they turned off the air con. The room was smelly when I first entered but got better after I turned on the air con for a while (i think it's the smell of the toilet as they do not have a fan in there) hot water was never working properly during my stay, either boiling hot or just way too cold. And for 3 days out of my 4 days stay the wifi was not working and I had to go to the hotel next door to use Internet. Also if you intend to stay there, make sure you book tours and your taxi elsewhere because the hotel price is literally double the market price and they would tell you their price is the market price which is not true. The day I was leaving they insisted on me to pay for something from the fridge which I never consumed. The staff were friendly but not necessarily helpful. I would not stay in this hotel again and would recommend you find a hotel elsewhere if you do need any service/facility

Think this one through carefully before you book

A hotel needing a lot of maintenance. We moved from our first room because it had major cracks in the bottom of the bath/shower and leaked everywhere. I was asked if I had broken it! It was then I looked on reviews on-line where other people had made the same comments weeks ago. This told me the hotel were very well aware of the problem but continued to rent the room out!

Got the next room but the door card lock failed. The problem was fixed quickly. Although the hotel has seen better days the manager and staff were very apologetic and provided a basket of fruit.

Pool was a salt water one again needing some attention but was clean. Difficult to get poolside drinks. Snacks were not available.

We arrived at the hotel late afternoon after a long crossing and hot day at the border they came over with a cold drink and a wet face cloth this was nice start . the room was so nice location was grate and I loved the pool the staff are grate the one thing I could say is the English with some of them needs a little work . would defiantly stay again .

fantastic hotel

We stayed at the royal empire over Xmas, new year and everything was brilliant. Hotel staff were very friendly and courteous. Could not find fault at all. Room service was great. Everything was clean and tidy. Will be definitely be returning to this hotel again.
A big Thankyou to all the staff at the royal empire.
I would highly recommended this hotel to anyone, price is good and located a short tuk tuk ride into town.

little pricey, but good hotel

hotel was great. a little pricey, but great to have a comfortable place to stay after close to 10 hours of trekking around the ruins.

Impressive service

people here are all very nice and humbles, hotel can do everything for you as u require. Location is good.Breakfast is wonderful!
