Hotel was clean and staff were very nice and helpful when the ac wasnt preforming well. they supplied us with a fan and even let us switch rooms. we had a nice view of the boat port and got to see all the boats come and go.

Just to spend one night

I was there three nights, in the whole hotel there was no heating, and the temperature was around 10 to 12 degrees celcius. They never inform that!!! Allways saying we are going to fix it, bu they new from day one there won't be a solution at least during my stay. I've got a terrible bronchitis, still with medications after 13 days! There are not restaurantes near by, the only good thing about this Columbus Sea hotel is the location: near metro, Principe bus station and MSC Cruises.

Poor hotel conditions, more like a 2-star hotel

Hotel is in a good location but needs quite a bit of updating and redecorating. The room itself was OK but the general conditions of the corridors and reception areas needs updating. There were many south Asian blokes loitering around the outside of the front entrance of the hotel and in the reception area - at least 10 of them - in slippers and shabby clothing and those outside were smoking away. Not exactly threatening behaviours but their demeanour and presence left a very poor impression of the hotel as a whole. Yes, there is EUR15 charge for carpark.

When u book hotel and u pay £100 I dint expect to pay £20 for over night parking I do understand payment for parking but not that amount the hotel is not worth the money I have paid never mind paying extra for parking I used this hotel before many times but this it will be my last time there are better hotels for the price and they don’t charge for parking

Nice hotel, but needs work

The welcome was friendly and helpful and the check in went well. The hotel is a bit old and the decor is rather tired - the carpets need to be cleaned or replaced and there was a bucket collecting drips from the ceiling outside my daughter's room. On the other hand the staff were friendly and looked after us and gave good advice about visits.

Shabby but with some benefits

“Shabby” doesn’t quite cover the extent of neglect in this dreary hotel. Good points: price (most hotels near city center were very expensive), secure on-site parking, breakfast included eggs. The sheets and towels were clean. This would be a fabulous hotel with new carpeting and a coat of paint.

The photos on line must have been taken a long time ago as the rooms are well over due for a make over. At 100 euro a night this was the most expensive place we have stayed and is well over priced. I wouldn't stay again and I wouldn't suggest anyone else does either.

Rooms and hotel in general were poorly maintained. Carpets in hallway and guest rooms were stained and not clean. Drains in bathrooms (for brushing teeth etc) of all the rooms were stopped up. AC did not adequately cool rooms. Windows were noisy due leaking air when wind blew from harbor. There were no smoke alarms in any of the rooms and security systems did not work. On the positive side they served a nice breakfast which attracted a tour bus of people along with hotel guests.

Hotel location is excellent. Close to the Principe train station (one ride on Bus #3) where you can take a train to go to places in Italy. It's also about 15 minutes to the airport.

Not a 4 star hotel

This hotel is advertised as 4 stars, which is completely inaccurate! There were none of the luxuries that I would associate with a 4 star hotel:

-The breakfast buffet was meager and didn't even have proper bread, only these tiny bread rolls the size of golf balls.
-The bathrooms didn't have seperate conditioner/shampoo/body wash/lotion, only small bottles of combined body wash/shampoo which are useless for women with long hair, and no conditioner. Very cheap move from a supposed 4 star hotel.
-The rooms have ugly mustard and blue carpets, and 70s style dinged-up wooden furniture. They look like they haven't been renovated since the 70s, in fact.
-There was no blanket or comforter to cover oneself at night. Only a sheet and the outer bed coverlet.
-We had a 4-person room, which had two narrow single-person beds, and an uncomfortable double fold-up bed.
-Check out is ridiculously early, at 10 AM.
-They charge for wi-fi - per device connected!
-The hotel is not walking distance from the city center.
-The \"sea view\" rooms mostly overlook the parking lot of the shopping mall next door.
-Given the proximity to the harbor and the road, opening the window during the day leads to a noisy room.

The rooms were clean and spacious, and staff friendly. Other than that, this hotel is a 3-star if you squint, not a 4-star.

I stayed just for one night. The hotel location is excellent. The room is large and clean. Parking very spacious. However, I must remark that A/C wasn't working (In a very warm night, and warm room). On the other hand, the WiFi Free Internet is not such. When many people in the hotel use it, it doesn´t work. And it means it interrupts very frequently.

Hotel looks run down. Carpet was very dirty as there were spots all over the floor. Looks like mgt doesn't care. AC only gets turned on \"every Wednesday\" according to to front desk staff, which is unheard of. Honestly? Did they give themselves 4 stars? It was hot inside, but opening window is too noisy to sleep due to big ships & road traffic around the harbor. Service was okay, not very friendly, but we can deal with that. For sure we will not be returning as are much better places around that I'm sure are cheaper with better quality.

This hotel is situated just a single track railway line away from a very busy 24/7 working port, with ferry berths immediately opposite and a container dock within 500 metres. In spite of all this, and staying in May, with day temperatures in mid 20s, the air conditioning 'isn't turned on yet' and, when I complained that the room was too warm to sleep I was told to 'open the window'. Too noisy by far!! Not acceptable! Although clean, the room smelled, and I found another guest with the same complaint, but again were told to 'open the window'. The breakfast was also very poor for a supposed 4*. We are currently touring 5 countries using 10 hotels - this is the only 4*, all the others being 2 & 3, yet it is by far the worst.

Decent Hotel - Would Stay Again

I would definitely stay here again if I were in Genoa. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. Breakfast was very good. Parking was easy. It is a 30-40 minute walk to the city center but bus stops are close to the hotel.

Air condition was not cooling and August heat and humidity were killing
Housekeeping forgot loo cleaning brush in the toilet when checked into the room! No kleenex was put in the room
Very small TV like PC screen - only 4 channels were working
Location is directly on the Port, bus stop is 10 minutes away and at night the area was the red zone meeting point
We checked out very early, on the night before we requested to have packed Breakfast as we knew we were leaving early and we were denied although rate included breakfast
Not sure how this is rated as 4 start while they have no food nor room service at night for our early take off

We only stayed at the hotel for 1 night. Coming from Genoa City Centre it could be tricky to find as the hotel is located right next to a very busy junction with a lot of roads going in all directions. The signage to the hotel could be improved however you could say this for the whole of Italy. The hotel offers more for free (or included in your rate) than advertised on this website - car parking is free, as is the WiFi and you also get two complimentary items from the mini bar in the room. Breakfast is amazing and well worth the additional fee. It was the first hotel in Italy we stayed at (it was our 12th night in Italy and our 5th hotel) to offer bacon and sausages!

Very helpful and friendly staff

The staff were very friendly and helped us out a lot. Pop in to the bar to see the bartender, he was very friendly and the food was delicious! This hotel wasn't as close as we thought to the cruise port though. It is next to the Italian port, but the international ships were at a different port. We had to walk up and down a lot of stairs with our luggage. If you stay here, take a taxi to your port as it won't cost much and easily accessible to cars. There was a shopping mall close by that also had an entertainment complex.

Hotel near the ferry port

We had been referred to Columbus Sea Hotel by an acquaintance. We will NEVER stay there again. The carpet was filthy. The rooms were shabby and outdated and stank of cigarette smoke. The restaurant was not open except for a mediocre breakfast. The parking had signs stating that they were not responsible for damage or theft, as they left the cars unprotected. When walking in the area, we could not find a decent restaurant. We were later told that this was the hooker domain of town. The staff was not helpful at all. When we asked for a good nearby restaurant, we were referred to the McDonald's! They did not help us find bus routes to Porto Antico or help in any other way. The \"shopping\" that was supposedly nearby consisted of 3 or 4 run down shops and a small grocery store in a \"mall\" located next door, which also housed the McDonald's.

Great city.

Fantastic staff, who looked after us really well, and were friendly too. Fantastic position overlooking the ferry port, which kept us occupied for ages! Housekeeping was faultless, with the rooms made up beautifully every day.
What let it down was the maintenance. The extractor didn't work, the toilet seat was loose, and we couldn't fill the bath as the valve was stuck on \"shower\" setting. These were all reported, but nothing was done! Shame....

Just a one night layover between flight in and a cruise out. Hotel was perfect. Easy cab ride from the airport and a quick one to the ship, which we could see from the hotel.

Perfectly ok hotel, rubbish wi-fi though!

Quite a tired hotel, but perfectly acceptable and pretty quiet. Apart from the lorry drivers queuing for the ferry outside who start honking their horns at 6 in the morning.
I'm sure the Wi-fi used to be free but now you only get one hour, which isn't very long considering the speed of the connection is on a par with continental drift.

The hotel does have its own car park, which is a definite bonus.

Difficult to find at first. Promised and advertised free parking which we fortunately got and had the last space but if that had gone we would have had no where to park our very expensivr car. Very seedy part of town. Didn't feel safe walking about and felt more relieved about getting a hotel parking space. Nice breakfast buffet. Staff okay. Had to pay city taxes of 2 Euros each upon departure per night. Why wasn't this charged through hotels.com?

Hotel ok. 15-20 minute walk to main part of town. Next time we will look for something closer to the city. Good breakfast. Wireless internet very slow - 1 euro per hour. The satellite internet on the cruise ship was faster. They called for us a taxi for the airport. The meter said 30e but driver charged 40e,then rebated 5e because I complained. Traffic was very heavy. Nice view of the port.

It is a bit out of town, very convenient if you have a car, close to a supermarket and a pizza restaurant. The view is over the Ferries terminal and is close by to the cruise terminal as well. It was OK and it served it's purpose. The breakfast is reasonable, not abundant but with many choices. It was disapointing the fact that the towels despite that were washed up had a sour smell and smelled unclean. Otherwise it was quite OK. There is a extra 2 Euro/per day/per passenger city tax for all hotels in Genoa. Be mindfull of that.

Not one to linger in

This was an interesting experience. The hotel itself was decidedly old-fashioned, tired and tatty, and we would avoid going back. But the rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. We had rooms overlooking the port, so were able to watch the ferries arriving and leaving. I suspect the hotel is mainly used as a transit for ferry passengers. The car park was free, and it was possible to walk into the town centre (about a mile) though the walk itself would not be the most pleasant experience because of the traffic and the raised freeway. Breakfast was good, with gluten free and dairy free options.

THE HOTEL STAFF WAS NICE. THE ROOMS WERE FAIRLY CLEAN. THE CARPET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY HAVE A NICE BREAKFAST BUFFET AND THEY HAVE A NICE AREA ON THE 1ST FLOOR TO RELAX AND PLAY CARDS. THERE IS A SHOPPING AREA NEAR BY WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE. IT IS REMOTE TO THE REST OF TOWN AND HARD TO GET TO. OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS OK.

The hotel is fine if a bit dated. Staff were friendly and efficient. Rooms were fine and those facing the sea have a good view of the port and also the entire waterfront of the town.We chose it because it has free parking and the person whom we were visiting lives less than a km away. We also got a reasonable price.
It is handy for the ferries but it is a good 20-30 minute walk into town. We encountered no difficulties but I am not sure everyone would feel comfortable walking from town or even from the nearest bus stop, especially at night.
If one traveled by taxi the hotel is OK.

Any Port in a storm.

Located far from the centre and basically right next to the Port it's certanly not the ideal location for a nice getaway in Genova. If you are just staying here for a quick stop-over then it's ok, but any longer then find somewhere else.

It's also a real pain to find with a complicated system of 1-way underpasses that led us to an interesting underpass where some ladies were very friendly with truck drivers.

Breakfast ok and room apparently decorated by Stevie Wonder but staff were nice.

We were en-route to Monaco so only needed a bed for the night. The hotel staff were very pleasant and professional. The room was good with comfortable beds. You could hear some noise through the closed windows but it was quiet at night. Very close to the emabarcation point for the ferries and on the doorstep of the shopping centre with a supermarket. Would happily use this hotel again in the same situation. Good buffet breakfast.

Columbus Sea hotel, Genoa, Italy

We stayed at this hotel for two nights prior to a cruise from Genoa. We were impressed enough to rebook this hotel for a further night on return from our cruise and subsequent flight to the UK.
We took the airport bus from Cristoforo Columbo airport. I asked the driver of the bus and he kindly dropped us off at the hotel since it was on the route from the airport to the main rail station in Genoa.
We had a wonderful room with a view over the busy port. As a former seaman it could not have been better. We watched a spectacular thunder and lighting storm at night which was fantastic.
The room was clean, spacious and the en suite facility included a bath which, for us, is great. There was TV with a British news channel as well as the usual continental channels.
The breakfast was \"Continental\" but well presented and buffet style. This was just right to set up for a day of sightseeing in Genoa.
Checkout was quick and easy and we had plenty time to take the half mile walk to the cruise terminal, again saving on taxi fares which are quite expensive.
The staff could smile a bit more than they do and be \"warmer\" in their approach to clients but they were correct in their actions and information.
We will use this hotel again should we ever be in this part of Italy or if we ever go on another cruise from Genoa.
The one thing missing is tea/coffee facility in the room which seems a small cost considering the cost of the room.
We would recommend this hotel

Columbus Sea Hotel lives up to its 4 star rating. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were spacious and bathroom was nice too. We stayed on the top floor with a sea view. The view of the piers and ships along with the city in the background was very nice. The breakfast buffet was the best!

Clean and neat bathroom, clean and white sheets, and good breakfast !

The good things:
- The bathroom was extremely clean, neat and well maintain.
- Sheets and towels were absolutely clean and white.
- The breakfast was perfect.
- The staff was kind.
- Very good location (20 minutes walking to the aquarium)
- Wireless Internet worked very good in my iPad.

The bad things:
- The carpets in some floors were absolutely disgusting. (I understand that they are renovating them now because some floors have new ones).
- The bed was not that comfortable. Indeed it was too small and the mattress too thin.
- The TV set was too small and it was very difficult to watch/enjoy TV from the bed.
- No bureau for keeping clothes

In general I think that this is a very good hotel to stay as a tourist visiting the city, but I am not sure that it is indeed a 4 star hotel . . . maybe 3 is enough.

Hotel was close to the ferry station making it very easy to access after our crossing. Staff were friendly, the breakfast was great. The room although smelled of smoke. Quite the distance to the airport and the taxi's are expensive. Walking distance to the city, and on a cool day it's fantastic.

Too much noise

The Hotel, itself, was fine but it does not have air conditioning. It was a warm time and the room was hot. We needed to open the window for cool air. Unfortunately, that let in the sounds of the ferry port with the big diesel engines of the ferry boats which stayed on all night. The staff were very helpful about directions, it is close a metro station with access to the old city, and the afternoon desk clerk was exceptional. Just too much noise for a restful night.

The distance to walk to Genoa's 'centro storico' was fine since we enjoy walking and found a great restaurant along the way! Our room was clean although the hotel seems 'tired'. Front desk staff were pleasant. Calling a taxi for our very early morning departure to the airport wasn't a problem BUT front desk staff didn't tell us (didn't they know??) that the airport doesn't even unlock it's front doors that early! Would use it if I had just one night and needed a location convenient to the ferries or airport.

The hotel was adequate, but there were a few things that could probably use some improvement. The wireless internet access was somewhat expensive, at 15 euros for 24 hours, but that in and of itself was not so much an issue. What was an issue was the fact that the quality of the wifi itself was absolutely terrible. At one point I just completely lost the signal for about two hours. When it was working, it was painfully slow.

The hotel itself was clean and well maintained, and the surrounding neighborhood was close to a shopping center and Metro stop, but it wasn't really anything to look at, just some loading docks really. The side that faces the water is taken up by all of the more expensive suites.

The employees were not necessarily outright rude, but did seem indifferent at times. At one point we approached the front desk when an attendant was on the phone. As we were waiting, another group stood behind us. The attendant eventually hung up the phone, helped the other group, and then picked up the phone and made another call, without attending to us. As far as I know, we had not done anything to warrant that treatment.

As a side note, it can be a little confusing to find the hotel, though that is really nothing against the hotel. Via Milano takes a turn at one point which we happened to miss.

We arrived via car and were turned on by this hotel due to the fact it had secure parking.... if you could find a spot and not park on the street a block away.

Some type of event was going on, so the place was crowded with cars.

While this hotel is well priced for the value- I wish we could have found one on the other side of town within walking distance of the sites we wanted to see.

Initially, checking in took no time at all. Staff were welcoming and happy to speak in English as my limited Italian failed me almost instantly.

Communal areas in the hotel could possibly do with a little facelift - marks on the corridor walls and carpet between corridors and stairs stuck down with tape detract from what is a perfectly good hotel.

The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The en-suite was of a good size and cleaned immaculately on a daily basis.

Although the hotel is situated a little away from the city centre, this was not too problematic as there are a couple of delightful and reasonably priced restaurants just across the road.

The breakfast buffet was delicious, though the dining room is a little small - on one morning we ate outside due to lack of room. However, this was actually quite nice as we were sheltered from the blistering hot sun.

Overall, I would happily return to the hotel, and can think of no better recommendation to offer on the place.

Hotel ruim, ar condicionado quebrado, quando apresentado a situação na recepção o recepcionista ( senhor) simplesmente disse : \"sim, está quebrado!\". Quase não havia hóspedes no hotel, muitos poucos, solicitamos mudança de quarto e não fomos atendidos. Tivemos que pernoitar com a janela aberta com o barulho intenso do Porto de Gênova ( Hotel se localiza em frente ao Porto). Houve descaso com a situação. Café da manhã simples. Estacionamento pago e caro!

GRAN HOTEL... EN MALA LOCALIZACIÓN

Debido a que el alojamiento estaba en el mismo puerto de Génova, la llegada a él en el coche fue frustrante. Aunque debo decir que, por las fechas de la estancia, había muchos automóviles pendientes de hacer el viaje a Marruecos, lo que me permitió aparcar como si fuera uno más y, así, no tener que pagar por un parking privado.

Det luktade i cigaretter i rummet. AC fungerade inte, det var dålig luft och varmt. Rummet hade en smutsig heltäckningsmatta, och dekorationen var daterad. Det fanns vissa ljusglimtar ändå: det serverades en helt ok frukost och personalen var trevlig och respektfull. Det märks att Hotellet har varit fint en gång i tiden, men vi skulle inte rekommendera det i dagsläget.

Eccellente posizione dell'albergo, adiacente agli accessi portuali per i traghetti che collegano l' area industriale dell'Italia settentrionale con tutti i principali porti del Mediterraneo.
Il mio lavoro mi porta molto spesso a utilizzare i mezzi navali per raggiungere tutti i paesi de Mediterraneo e usufruire dei migliori hotel della città vicini al porto di Genova e il Columbus è decisamente la migliore soluzione.

Sconsigliato, esperienza negativa

Esperienza negativa! Hotel che non dimostra affatto le 4 stelle vista la poca igiene complessiva, strutture interne datate e in parte fatiscenti, tra cui un ascensore obsoleto e malandato, camera rumorosa e infissi vecchi, come stare quasi in tangenziale... dimenticavo, consiglio di controllare le scadenze dei prodotti forniti a colazione!
