The lobby gets three stars, but everything else was pretty bad. Carpets duct taped, room floor sticky, bathroom had hairs, walls had random stains, sheets had what appeared to be blood stains, bugs were crawling through the room, and everything appeared to be 20 years past needing a remodel. The pool was surrounded by goose poo, and the water itself was filled end to end with goose poop flotsam. There's a general urban decline feeling about the place, as people meet and smoke in the parking lot and the strip club across the street has women trying to wave people in. The staff were not rude, just overwhelmed and sometimes slow. It's a place that needs to be sold to a real estate developer before it gets shut down by inspectors.

Our arrival at 4:00 - Allowed to check in at 3:00 - was met with, \"Your room is not ready yet, give us a few minutes.\" An hour later we were able to go to our room. We were given a snack for the inconvenience.
Getting to our room, the elevator sounded like a jack hammer going up or down, and we could hear it in our room 4 doors down.
The bed was pretty squishy. We slept alright, but my husband's back really hurt the next day.
I didn't realize until going to shower, that we were not given a shower curtain. As I didn't have time to wait for one, I had to shower without.
The lobby looked run down. The restaurant (which I'm not sure was open) had messed up carpet - bunched up all over. I may have overheard that they'd had some kind of fire/sprinkler damage to part of the hotel, but did not confirm.
Overall, disappointing for a supposed 'premium' room.

Upon opening my room door, it was apparent that the security lock was missing and the frame smashed. Looking at the floor, it was apparent it was filthy. A large sticky spot with dirt next to the cabinet and other spots throughout. The whole unit had dirt and filth along the baseboards. Missing items were a trash can(replaced), hairdryer(not replaced), a chair for the desk(replaced twice) and Do Not Disturb hanger(not replaced). In the bathroom, a blood spot on the wall above the toilet. The shower curtain rod was ripped out and replaced with a pressure unit. The bed had half the mid frame support missing. The screen door out to the filthy balcony was torn and off the track. The cushioned chair had one wheel missing and was lopsided. The TV was cleaned with a dirty rag and was filthy. The dresser/cabinet bottom drawer and cabinet door would not close. Gouges in walls. Front door was so out of alignment(1/2 inch) that when closed you could look out into the hallway and anyone in the hallway could look in. GM promised a \"deep cleaning\" that never happened. Hallway( Second floor) carpet filthy, smelled badly and dozens of yards of duct tape covering rips and tears. Multiple unit doors have duct tape covering damage to the doors. Lobby was not much better. Business center \"out of order\". Exercise room filthy. Lounge area filthy and carpet smelled, tables and chair strewn all over. TV's on with sports with no sound and heavy metal music blaring. No comp or room change offered.

This is an older property in desperate need of a refresh. I chose this location for the price. We had problems with the door to our room, the air conditioning, and needed to get a later check-out time. The staff at this property quickly responded to our needs and helped us in every way they could. When the door issue could not be resolved, we were moved to another room. When the air conditioning was not working, a maintenance tech was sent to our room and the problem was resolved within 10 minutes. When I asked for a later checkout time, we were graciously given an extra hour. The service and response to our problems was exceptional! The room itself was clean and the bed was comfortable. We could hear other residents through the walls, but it didn't interfere with our enjoyment of the room and sleep. The overall shabbiness of the property cannot be easily resolved without a massive overhaul. There is a musty smell to everything, and I had to overlook it and remind myself that I was getting a lower rate. The breakfast was not fantastic, but it was edible. We did not use the pool and hot tub. If you are not fancy, this is an affordable option for Boise accommodations.

It is in poor condition needs alot of renovations and safety updates, I was not informed that I needed a $50 deposit after preparing for the room. The pools were kinda dirty, hot water took forever to get hot, for my room took at least 10min. The HDMI port was broken on the TV

The lobby was filthy, old and dated, we got the key just to checkout the room and the walk to the room was disgusting and filthy as was the elevator and the room as well. We turned the key in and left the premises. This hotel should be condemned!

I remember when ted lion was the place to stay, definitely not anymore....we stayed on the 3rd floor and the carpet in the hallway looked like it hasn't been vacuumed in a month or two. We didn't think much of it and just thought maybe there's a lot of traffic that day. However, it stayed that way all weekend. Nobody cared to vacuum the floors.

Our room..Bathtub has cracks in it, The ceiling had multiple spots where there was maybe a leak and they just patched it... But not very well.
Beds... The bedding look like he had been washed with black towels. There was black stuff all over. When we pulled back the sheets there was a cigarette hole in one bed and there was stains in the other bed.

The bedside tables and the entertainment center looks like it hasn't been dusted in months...

Somebody spilled coffee grounds in the coffee caddy and nobody cleaned it up. The refrigerator was dirty. The walls needed cleaned. You could see fingerprints along the walls, along with who knows when the last time that room was painted. The walls were yellow like people had been smoking in it...

The pool was gross...likely from the goose poop from the geese that were nesting up above the pool and all-around the pool was covered in goose poop...

The room was really cheap, but next time I will spend a little more money for a cleaner room...

Breakfast was horrible. The sausage was dried out, the eggs were more water than egg, and the hash browns were hard.

We will never stay here again.

I booked a 2 queen bed room and when we arrived they had overbooked their rooms and didn’t have one of those rooms available for us. The offered a smaller bed room. We were in a pinch and took it but once we got to the room it solidified it wasn’t going to work for us. The air wasn’t working in the room with far smaller beds and the room was dirty. Between Hotels.com and the manager of the hotel we were able to get a refund on our reservation and go somewhere else. Would not recommend staying here. Avoid the hassle!!

After asking the front desk if there was any deadline for check-in and given a response of “no deadline, you can check in any time of night”, I shared that no-deadline information with my partner whom I had booked the room for. He and his friend would be partying after a concert in downtown Boise, so I let them know that they didn’t need to rush to check-in and instead could party as long as they desired before checking-in for the night at the hotel.

When they arrived at the hotel at 2:30 am after a fun night downtown, they were initially turned away. The staff told my partner that they have a check-in deadline of 2am. Thankfully, after I spoke with them on the phone, they made an exception and gave my partner their room.

It’s terribly disappointing to know, however, that we were first provided false information and that the staff wasn’t initially willing to find a way to help my parter and his friend obtain their room for the night when they were intoxicated. What were they supposed to do, stumble through downtown Boise trying to find a room when the room that was booked for them was undoubtedly available? Best to not send intoxicated folks out without a place to stay at 2:30 in the morning. I hope Red Lion Boise Downtowner informs their staff and updates their policies and/or training.

I had a very pleasant stay at the Red Lion in Boise. The hotel was comfortable, clean, and conveniently located, but what really stood out was the exceptional service at the front desk.

The South African lady who checked me in was absolutely wonderful. I unfortunately don’t remember her name, but her kindness, professionalism, and genuine warmth made a lasting impression. After a long day of travel, being greeted by someone so friendly and welcoming made all the difference. She took the time to answer my questions, offered helpful local recommendations, and made me feel like a valued guest rather than just another reservation.

The Red Lion is under new ownership I think. They are working hard to bring back it's splendor. I appreciate the staff who really went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and help me. I know it's a work in progress making it back to what it once was. But they're really working hard. In the meantime, the room was clean. My bed was comfortable and staff gave me individual support to help me.

Don't stay here. The place is dirty and dated. It is also in a bad area of town, which I did not realize. The hallway carpet tears were taped together with duct tape. The door to the bathroom could not close because the toilet was in the way. The sink stopper was literally black, and the thermostat was hanging off the wall by wires. The room smelled old and the sheets did not smell fresh. This place is so dingy.

I'd rate my stay here as \"ok\". For the price I paid, it's a decent hotel. One detail that I wasn't a fan of was the fact that I was assigned a room right next to the elevator shaft. So, I got to hear that all night, and it wasn't quiet. Some positives though were that the breakfast tasted good, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Again, for the price I paid for my stay, it was a good value.

This place was a total disappointment!! We arrived very late at night to find things broken, missing, dirty sheets, lack of towels, and the pool was green. Another guest had no water in their shower. We didn't bother staying..just cancelled the room, and had to go search for another hotel, in the middle of the night, in a strange city. The staff tried to be helpful, and willing let us out of any cancellation fees.

I can’t say our room was even cleaned before we got there. The bed was dirty so I used my own blankets to sleep on and slept in the clothes I wore. I was not comfortable at all.

The RedLion Boise Downtowner is a throwback to an era of the big, beautiful hotel lobby, nice hotel rooms, great customer service and ample amenities.
Being a \"senior citizen \", I appreciate the relative ease of the moving in process with the elevators.
I like the old school feel of the hotel. It brings back memories of the time when the Red lion Boise Downtowner was in its heyday. I highly recommend it, especially if you're looking for a comfortable place to stay right in the heart of downtown Boise.

AC was broken in the room. Staff offered us a fan and told us there was nothing they could do. Room and whole place felt dirty and unkempt. The people in the room next to us smoked Marijuana all night. We had to sleep with the balcony open which felt super unsafe because it was way to hot. The Marijuana smoke was permeating our room and we are traveling with children.
Breakfast was completely empty at 920 and nobody was refilling food so we just left. Very unsatisfied. We have a medically complex toddler and AC is an absolute must for her health.

When we arrived the foyer was clean and spacious. They were very courteous. However, we had a confirmed room with 2 queen beds and they had given it away, overbooked they said. We got a king. The room was spacious and the bathroom clean but no hot water. The room was clean except for the floor which was sticky.
My side light did not work. The Tv did not work. But the next day the housekeeper fixed the light and the tv. That afternoon of the next day we got hot water. The hotel needs updating and they said that would happen within the next year. Built in 1960? The hallway carpets were taped into place. No carpets just hardwood in the rooms. Beds comfy and clean. Breakfast was included and quite good.

we booked this hotel got a confirmation. We’re on our way. Got there at 11 right before midnight with our kids. I saw five other families in the lobby on the phone. They had overbooked the hotel. we had just driven eight hours. We drove around looking for a hotel in the middle of the night. after getting to the new hotel, we looked at the reviews and they seem to do this a lot. I’ve never had this experience in my entire life. They let the hotel get overbooked. They can’t blame anything else. If you look at the reviews, this happens a lot.
I have booked hotels twice a month on average and have never had this happen.

There was a huge wind storm prior to our arrival and power was out. However, Staff was still trying to get us and others to rent their rooms even though they had no idea when/if power was going to be restored that day or anytime before checkout time. There would be no lights, showers, meals, etc. They were, however, gracious enough to cancel room and \"waive cancellation fee\" AFTER we asked. They did not offer.

Upon our arrival, condition of property overall was poor. Ceilings had water damage and panels were hanging down. Not impressed. The pictures on the website did not match what we saw.

To begin with, the elevator makes a horrible noise when moving, it looks like it's going to fall, then when we entered the room the first thing we saw was a big spot of silt on the sink due to a leak that does not stop at any time, the toilet was so stained that it seemed dirty, in the bathtub there were long hairs that did not belong to any of my family, we stayed in a room with a balcony overlooking the city and it was the worst mistake because the air conditioning is nothing more than a portable machine from which the ventilation duct has to come out somewhere and comes out right through the sliding door, which you can't close because the ventilation duct prevents it completely, this makes all the noise from outside enter the room, the reception lady was very friendly but honestly I had more expectations about this hotel honestly I would not stay here again.

I read others review on the hotel. I booked according to what I read. The hotel was nothing like described.
Lobby was beautiful. Hallways were dirty, by the smells in the hallway guests were partying and the smell was filtering into the hallways. We were on the pet friendly side of the hotel if that was the reason. Not sure. I booked 4 rooms for family on our way home from vacation. 1 room smelled so bad of urine that my daughter and family refused to stay. They did refund the charges. Another room the door key wouldn’t work. Several different keys later the door still wouldn’t open. They demanded a full refund and left.
The other 2 rooms didn't smell. The rooms were clean but blood stains were on one curtain and shower chalking was moldy.
No continental breakfast as described. Outside door to the hallway was left cracked open, appeared to have no lock. The room across the hall had a snack shop sign that he was selling items out of.
Pay more money, do not stay here.

This hotel was absolutely disgusting. The room we stayed in was a “corner suite.” As soon as we walked in, we were greeted to a stifling hot and humid room with a broken air conditioner. The ceiling by the bathroom had chunks missing due to obvious water damage. The shower was stained with dirt, hair and grime all over the bottom of the tub. The light above the shower had bugs literally hanging from it and dead bugs inside. There was dark (likely mold) stains around the entire fixture. The exhaust fan didn’t work and was covered in rust. The phone was covered in dead skin and had no visible markings indicating what any of the buttons did. There were three light switches, only one worked and it only turned on 1 out of 4 lightbulbs. The rest were dead. The fridge did not work at all, despite being plugged in and we wasted our leftovers because of it. The staff did send a maintenance man to fix the air conditioner on our second day. It worked but barely cooled the room down to 74. We had to sleep with the balcony door open both nights just to get some cool air. On top of everything, the walls are paper thin and we could hear every car, person and animal within 100 yards of our window. The curtains also had rips and holes in them and the blackout curtains didn’t shut all the way. The floor was also sticky. We had to walk around the room with shoes. It’s criminal what they are charging for this “hotel”. Under no circumstances should you stay here. It should be condemned

I think we had a rough experience because they had an issue with their systems and were “overbooked” memorial weekend. I didn’t get the room I’d reserved weeks beforehand and we moved rooms twice. It wasn’t a restful stay BUT I will say the staff really did what they could, with what they had. I probably won’t reserve there ever again.

If it wasn’t for Ben being an absolute angel at the front desk at 2am when I got there, I would have left.
This place needs a COMPLETE remodel. The lobby area… was okay, mostly looks the like picture. The rooms however, not at all. Not clean, there was left over hair all over the shower, mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, under the bed hadn’t been cleaned in atleast a couple months. I went and got my own cleaning supplies for the long weekend I had. The carpets in the hallways had a terrible smell attached to them, they completely need replaced. In certain areas there was duct tape holding the carpets together. I would have gone somewhere else if there was availability.

There was a brawl outside my room at around 11 pm and lasted for a long time. I feared for my life and my kids. This is not okay! If the staff knew those people are trouble then why put me beside them. The hallway carpet was so dirty and it stinks with marijuana. I am so disappointed in this place. I was so tired and I'm driving 8 hrs so this place was not helpful. My advice, do not stay here! You've been warned.

Very rundown facility. The bathroom door wouldn't shut. Many dings and dents on doors. Carpet in hallway smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. They do not do daily room service for making beds unless you request it the night before. The breakfast wasn't very good and they didn't bring food out frequently. The Red Lion is a very good value for the money. With that said, it is old, the hallways are dirty, everything in well worn.
Pros: The staff is great. Super location and my room was clean.
Cons: the hallways were dirty, the tv didn't work and you look into the laundry room from the lobby/check in.

I will stay here by myself for business to save money but would not recommend it and would not bring my family here.

Check in was 3pm and we arrived a little after 5pm and our room wasn't ready. They said housekeeping was running behind and it would be a while yet. We had dinner reservations at 6 so we couldn't change our clothes after driving five hours. At 5:45 we finally got our room but it was too late and we had to go to our reservation and didn't get to our room until after 8pm. Bedskirt -When I asked for a bedskirt, I was told the hotel is an old building and didn't have money in the budget to replace bedskirts.

Heat & thermostat cover - When I arrived the room was very cool so I turned up the thermostat. I returned several hours later & the room was no warmer. So, I checked the thermostat again... the cover fell off.

The room was cold as it was cold outside. The heater didn't kick on. The staff said the whole hotel was switched to air condition only, NO heat. We used the luke warm hot tub. The jets didn't work. The pool was disgusting. There was debris and goose droppings all over. The bed was very uncofortable and the shower wouldn't drain. I do not recommend this as a place to stay.

The minuses: not the cleanest property we've been to (perhaps there have been short-staff issues), for example the chair in our room appears to be original to when the property opened (years old, perhaps decades), the thermostat was basically hanging out of the wall (it worked, but still), everything felt very dated, showed wear.

The pluses: a FANTASTIC comfortable super-clean bed (we slept very well), even though the bathroom felt dated it was clean and had great water pressure in the shower, excellent friendly staff, and an exceptional breakfast (the best of all properties on this road trip). Good, walkable location to downtown activities and dining.

The property is in need of a lot of work. The carpets are old and dirty and smelled of smoke. Pool area was not swept or free of debris. The room was clean but some things needed repair but all the basic utilities worked. The bathroom door needed repair to work smoothly. Staff were very helpful and attentive. The breakfast was adequate but very limited.

The ac in the room didn't work and both the sinks continuously dripped, which was annoying when trying to sleep and the pool was closed for maintenance, which again, was annoying but the end of world. The stuff here are great and we're all super friendly and helpful and the hotel is in a great location making it really easy to get around. The room was a decent size and even had a little balcony which was great for us. I honestly would have expected the nightly rate to be higher after staying there but am glad it's not and will definitely be staying there next time I'm in Idaho.

The staff was very friendly. Overall the quality of the hotel does not reflect in the price. The furniture and fixtures are super worn down, the pool and restaurant weren’t open the entire time we were there Thurs-Mon. But the room was comfortable and mostly clean.

We stayed on the 2nd floor, they had duct tape all over the carpet in the hallways. The key for the door had to b redone 3 times in 2 days. The tv went out and the fan in room had to b repaired. The pool was closed a day and a half of our 2 day stay. The breakfast was ok

The staff were very helpful and kind, and parking was easily accessible. As a young traveler, I like to be cost effective when booking hotels and this one served its purpose for the price. The room was clean and the location is close to downtown. It is a bit of an old building so there was wear/ tear in the hallways, and it smelled a bit like cigarette smoke, but those were the only issues which aren't very big ones in my book. Overall my friend and I enjoyed our stay, and would stay again!

Flew to town to see my son. First night, someone tried to come in our room. Scared him. He did not stay the second night. Property was extremely dirty. Second night the vent was missing from the ceiling. Just a big open hole with a loud fan clicking. Someone above me ran back and forth in their room till 1 am. Incredibly bad property and stay. The night manager lady was extremely nice and understanding. Lone bright spot.

This is a VERY old hotel that hasn't been updated since the 70's or 80's. The elevator sounded like it wasn't going work anytime - although it did work. We had a suite and the couch was so filthy and dirty I didn't even put my suitcase on it. We didn't feel comfortable in sitting in any of the chairs. The air conditioner did not work at all in the living room. The AC did work in the bedroom - which surprised us - but again, we couldn't use the other room at all as it was above 80 in the room. The only piece of furniture we did sit on/sleep in was the bed as we were hoping the sheets were at least clean - which they were. We went down for breakfast but didn't stay to eat. The bacon that was there was in an inch of bacon grease. You get what you pay for when you stay at this hotel.

The air conditioning in room wasn’t working. Maintenance was quick and helpful to come work on it during my 2nd night but it still didn’t make things any better. Moving me to a different room would have been a better option since it was a hot day. Overall everything was ok. I’m usually not picky but I will pass on this hotel next time I’m in Boise.

Like most Red Lions, this was a great hotel in its heyday. Check in took way too long and the place could use some updated carpeting and the elevator sounds like it is going to quit at any moment . Room had to be re-cleaned as their was food or some other strange substance in the sheets. The lady from housekeeping was very kind and apologized while she made the bed clean. There were long blonde hairs all over the floor and I'm bald and was alone so... Not the fault of the staff. I'm sure the investor bottom line is the culprit.
