The people made it worth it.

It’s an old hotel and not the cleanest we’ve stayed in. The AC leaked but did the job well enough and the water pressure was variable. Breakfast was simple but a nice bonus. The location is great and the cost is reasonable. Both the terrace upstairs and the back garden were nice additions. The people who work here are what made it worthwhile for us- super friendly, helpful and kind.

The Sphendon is a charming, old hotel in Istanbul. It’s walking distance to everything you need when exploring. The free breakfast was a nice added touch. The staff were great and we enjoyed our stay. If you have mobility issues - this is not the place for you as there is no elevator. The rooms are small but you get what you pay for. We would stay here again.

I enjoyed staying at this hotel, the staff is very nice and helpful. When I got there I was tired and my room is not ready yet so they offered me the big family room for no extra charge. awful, illegal, and also full of crooks!

AVOID!!!! dodgy hotel. We have booked it ages in advance, and they informed us no rooms were left. They gave us one night only and changed us to a 'private' apartment the next morning. They said we can only pay them cash, which we did and no receipts were given. In the apartment there was no hot water, so no shower for a day and no curtains and it was by the tramline. horrible. Again they asked us pay in cash, and no receipts. I wrote to hotels.com and they said hotel told them no guests were registered under that name, hotel was full and no one checked in last night. as I do not have receipts they did not believe me. Disgrace to Hotels.com and of course this hotel. I had a child on my hand, sleeping, as we arrived late, and the next day they caused us so much inconvenience. We did not want to ruin the holiday and make a fuss, but hot water, noisy apartment, dodgy money handling and also no curtains, just seem to be a cowboy place. Avoid if you can. I never write reviews usually, not my thing. But this time I want to warn anyone who might be choosing this hotel. It is full of crooks who is trying to make money illegally. I am not sure if the owner knows what is happening behind his back.

We stayed at Sphendon Annex building called Seahouse. There is no elevator in this building which I was not aware of it.
The room we stayed was very small. Harding you can fit 2 suitcases. There was no safety deposit locker.
Breakfast was terrible. There was no omelette, only boiled eggs from previous day.

WORST SHUTTLE SERVICE! DO NOT RECOMMEND!

The WORST shuttle bus service ever!!! strongly DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!! VERY ANGRY!!!!!! it costs 5 euro for the shuttle bus, which is the same price as other hotels which provided private cars (Ocean's 7 hotel provides clean,polite,PRIVATE and ON-TIME car). the shuttle bus in this hotel get customers from more than 2 other hotels, one of the timetable in this hotel is 9am, while in the next hotel is 9:30am (not even the last pick up stop). the problem is, if i take the taxi to the airport, it only costs 30mins, which means I risk myself more than 30mins waiting for other customers while I'm not notified before! one of the passenger's flight is 11am, while at 9:40 he is still in the car and waiting for the super slow people from another hotel and he don't even know whether he can catch the flight! When the shuttle arrive the airport it's already 10:15. the hotel staff won't tell you they will waste your time to wait for others while they based on the situation that you're sent to the airport directly, which means I would expect I'll arrive the airport at 9:30 since I take the 9am. If you want to LOSE your FLIGHT, then GO AHEAD and book their shuttle bus :) The room is ok but there are workers in the same building doing instructions, though I thought it would be private. if you want to eat breakfast, you need to go to another building which is very INCONVENIENT. the food is very limited. and the sea view is just so-so, not as shown in the pictures. Overall the environment is ok.

the hotel is in great location and the staff was friendly at first, however the room was very small, the bed was uncomfortable and the walls are paper thin so you can hear everything and vice versa.
the cleaning staff did not make any effort to clean the room properly. When I arrived the room looked representable considering the amount that I paid for the stay, The next day the room was barely touched from the cleaning. The sheets were not replaced, the trash bag was not emptied etc....
I’ve spent a total 6 days in the hotel. On my second day.I spilled a little bit of chocolate milk on the bed due to the room lack of size and not having a dining area, immediatly fowllowing my return to the hotel, I was confronted by the Youness ( employee at the hotel) that The sheet was dirty and that the spot can’t be removed by the laundry and he handed me a doggy potty sheet and offered that I need to sleep on it politely. I found that not to be only rude and unprofessional but also dispeespectful. I would expect a lot more professionalism from a so called 4 star hotel. On the way out I Ahmed was nice and asked me to retun but then chased me to out to the cab and said take your trash with you ( the bottle of water that I forgot on his desk) That’s the most unprofessional staff that I had to deal with ever in my hotel experiences.

Hotel Sphendon is a simple and safe hotel in a great location. The staff (Akeel, Ahmed and Yunus) are lovely and helped me out a lot as a solo traveller. Daily breakfast was fresh and made for a great start to each day of touristing. My room in the annex building had great sea views. Just be aware that there is a fairly busy road between the building and the sea which causes some inevitable noise. Sphendon is close to all the major attractions - but in a relatively quiet corner of Sultanahmet. I will definitely stay here again if I make it back for a 2nd visit!

Everything was fine considering our stay, I mean that’s what you get for this much price right? The staff was friendly and everything... we were told we had a room in the annex buliding which is different than the main hotel building. It was all ok, nothing that great and nothing that bad, the annex building was a bit depressing though... the problem was discovered while I was packing at 1am as our flight was at 4 am and realized that we had bought two sweaters for my husband which were brand new and they were missing from our room, as we used to just quickly leave the bags in the room and go out, I never knew what time the house cleaning was coming... anyway moving forward I was unable to inform anyone at the hotel that time as no one was available at the annex building, however I did email the hotel once we returned to our home town but I was told that nothing was left behind... I know nothing was left behind as I packed everything!! It was STOLEN from our room... but they don’t seem to understand what I’m implying... anyway anyone booking this hotel keep in mind to lock your stuff at all times, especially the new things you buy during your stay in Istanbul.

Close to all the main landmarks

We really enjoyed our break in istanbal but not the hotel. If you are looking for a modern hotel with all the faciilities of a modern hotel then this is not the one. Bear in mind if you are booking a family room then most probably you'll be booked in to the annexxe part if the hotel which is at least ten minutes walk from the main hotel. So for breakfast every morning you'd have to walk 10minutes to get to the main hotel. We arrived late at night with our 3 children, we didn't expect to be taken down a few long roads on foot to get to the annexxe room. Then again going back to have breakfast, which actually made us very sad. The room it self is not too bad but what I found very annoying was when booking we were not informed/ advertised properly of how detached the room was from the main hotel. The hotel staff were very nice and polite. The breakfast was also nice but very basic. The only positive thing I could say about the hotel was that we were with in walking distance to the main landmarks like the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace etc. I would defiantly go back to Istanbal but not to the same hotel.

The place was amazing, rooms are clean, breakfast was included, the location was in a quite neighborhood, five minutes away from Sultan Ahmed Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Top kapi. There are many restaurants, ATM machine, and convenient stores nearby. Best of all staff went above and beyond hotel service our house keeper provided us with recommendations on which tourist sites to visit and where to go for food based on our taste and budget, and how to get around Istanbul using the train, cab and Uber. He even told us how much we should pay so that no one can take advantage of us. We would stay at this location again.

Unacceptable, Unprofessional and uncooperative

When I arrived at my stay on May 2nd they told me that my reservation was cancelled which was since they couldn’t confirm my credit card info. I didn’t receive any cancellation email or notification regarding this from either Expedia or the hotel. They said they sent me an email which I checked I had received 2 weeks earlier but it was written in Turkish. I’m a Canadian tourist and I was contacted 2 weeks before my stay in another language while I was out of the country. The manager said it was my fault and that I should have used google translate and they have the right to cancel if we choose the pay at hotel option. They said they would do me a favor and provide a room for today but the remaining would days they said to walk around the area and find dates. UnProfessional and not helping nature at all. They put me in a tough situation while on vacation so the remaining day instead of sightseeing I was going through hotels and speaking to Expedia on the phone complaining about what had happened. This was unacceptable by both Expedia and the hotel. I would never suggest anyone to go to this hotel ever again and I would suggest Expedia drop them from their listing.

The hotel is cozy and welcoming, however anyone visiting should take their own toiletries including tissue papers, cutlery, tea bag and paper cups.
There is no elevator - and the 12 rooms are either on the first, second or the third floor. Therefore if there is someone with a restriction of climbing stairs should look for other options.
Cleanliness of the rooms was disappointing.
breakfast was minimum choice but filling. if your are gluten intolerant or have allergy to dairy or egg , you will be disappointed, no fruits or fresh juice at all .
However a very decent place for the price and you can find anything you need at a walking distance, therefore I do recommend this hotel and will stay there again next time I visit Istanbul.

Hotel refuses to provide the guest the bill

Not worth the money. It shouldn't be called a hotel. I requested the hotel to provide me the bill of my stay which I need to present to my company to claim the money but to my great they refused to provide the bill saying that Expedia should provide it to me. This is strange,I always book the hotel through various service providers and get the bill from the hotel itself. I now request Expedia to provide me the invoice/bill urgently.

We were delighted to stay in this hotel, with walking distance to the major touristic sites (blue mosque, Hagia Sophia, grand bazar ...etc), the breakfast was good, the staff was very friendly and so helpful with very good advice especially Yunus who helped us a lot and gave us precious advices about places to visit and how to travel. I was able to easily travel through the entire city of Istanbul using the transit close to the hotel. It was close to all historical area it is only five minutes to blue mosque.

Disadvantages:
the bathroom was very very bad coz it is hard to seat on the bath chair and the room is very small.

Wonderful hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Room was on the small side but perfectly adequate for one and had all the amenities one could wish for. I even had a balcony my second stay. The breakfast was good and could be taken in the garden area at the back. There was also a rooftop area with views of the sea. Good location with Blue Mosque nearby but it was away from all the rug shops so you weren't constantly pestered.

(1) if you have some kind of disability then try to request a room on the lowest level possible as there are no lifts in many hotels in this area and also remember to keep in mind where your hotel is when going out or you will loose a few stones walking around trying to find it!

Nice hotel close to main tourist attractions

I stayed at the hotel for 5 days and had a great time. The staff was friendly and rooms were clean. Decent breakfast is served in the morning from 8-10AM. Cleaners would come around 1 and clean the room within 5 minutes. The counter staff was helpful and would guide you about how to get to places, what to see in the city and anything you need information about. The hotel was generally peaceful and quiet during the day and the night, however some customers might make sound when walking up and down the stairs. Nothing that would bother you too much.
The best thing about this hotel is its location. Although it is located in a narrow street, it is conveniently located within 10 minutes walk to city's most important historical locations. This includes Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and the Archeological Museum. You can also go to the seaside if you want to go for walk, that is also 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Due to its ideal location you don't have to take a taxi or even the tram to reach city's important monuments. Even the grand bazaar is 30 minutes walk away.
If you don't feel like going out you can order pizza, kebabs and a few other things in the room. The room service menu isn't cheap but isn't expensive either.

All of the staff were very helpful and accommodating. the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good and the hotel is located about 8-10 minutes on foot from the blue mosque and the metro. there is a small bazaar nearby to buy nice gifts. If/When I return to istanbul I will definitely stay here.

Excellent location for major sites

This was our second stay in two years. Staff has changed but maintained same level of hospitality. Excellent breakfast selection with addition of espresso machine. Location ideal to walk to major sites, shopping and restaurants. Rooms on smaller side but other features add value in a pleasant stay.

Great Location, Great Staff

Hotel staff was very welcoming and hospitable to our needs. Hotel is located in Sultanahmet area within 5 minutes walk of several restaurants and 10 min walk of the local tram line. Staff welcomed us with a nice overview of the major tourist destinations with a map.

Fridge and safe in room. Room/bathroom was a lot smaller than we are used to, but it was clean and comfortable. Breakfast had a nice variety of items to choose from that kept us fueled for all the walking we did!

Great Little Boutique Hotel in Istanbul

I enjoyed my stay at the Splendon Hotel in Istanbul. It's located in the best part of town (Sultanahmet) very close to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia...you can walk to it in 10 minutes. There are so many restaurants within walking distance and easy to get to the blue tram.The staff was great, spoke English and were very accommodating The food was very good and the outdoor terrace was a nice quiet place to eat breakfast. I spent three days there and would definitely come back. If you are looking for a quiet, small, boutique hotel with all the necessary accoutrements, I highly recommend the Splendon Hotel for your next visit to Istanbul.

A cosy boutique hotel with nicely decorated rooms.....

Abdullah is star and takes care of the guests like its their home.

Would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Breakfast was good with allot of variety of items hot and cold.

This hotel is amazing! I was dubious as you really never know what you're going to get when you book an unknown hotel online, but I couldn't have asked for more. The hotel is perfectly placed; a few minutes away by foot from all the sights, but nestled into a quiet neighborhood so that you're able to get away from it all and have a sanctuary.
The staff were great! Helpful, full of suggestions, hardworking, and always with a smile to greet you.
Breakfast is diverse and delicious. Eggs, pastries, homemade cake of the day, roasted potatoes, olives, breads, jams, spreads, veggies and fruit, and of course, teas and coffees.
There's a coffee machine downstairs for all day enjoyment, and also in the rooms.
Breakie can be had in the garden or on the rooftop patio. Both are great places to chill.
Room was cleaned and re-supplied everyday.
I'll definitely go back!

We had a great time at Sphendon hotel in Istanbul,
our plane was delayed, we arrived by taxi close to midnight, but the welcome was fantastic.
The hotel is on several floors with no lift, there is the early morning prayer call from a nearby mosque minaret, but this is impossible to avoid in Istanbul where most streets have a mosque,
the morning buffet was mixed Western Turkish with lots of variety,
the street noice was minimal, it is a quiet back street but very close to various budget restaurants.
The staff, in particular Abdullah, were welcoming, friendly and always ready to make our stay pleasant.
Overall we were delighted with the hotel and our stay in Istanbul.

The manager of the Hotel Sphendon went above and beyond to make our short stay in Istanbul enjoyable. The hotel was no-frills but perfectly adequate, but it really was the service that made it a great stay. Highly recommended for tourists!

Garden oasis in centre of action

Hotel location is ideal for walking to many of the main attractions. Quaint décor with the curios mix of east and west that defines Istanbul. Roof top patio provides fantastic views. Most appealing for us is the main level stone walled garden. It provides an oasis hidden from the street with ambiance both day and night. The adjoining breakfast room has pleasant décor with easy access to the garden. Very friendly and helpful staff available 24 hours a day.
Note that this hotel does not have an elevator/lift so it could prove challenging for someone with mobility issues to try and navigate the winding stair case. However, staff will gladly assist with bags.
Another note, room 303 has a VERY tiny shower so if you are tall or claustrophobic you might want to request a larger shower area.
Airport Shuttle can be pre-booked and paid for at the hotel which makes for easy arrangements.
All the staff we encountered could speak excellent English and made us feel very welcome.
The hotel facilities lived up to the expectations we had from visiting Expedia for room comfort and location before we booked. We would return to this hotel.

Great for the price and location.

Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. The room was fairly comfortable too and they put out a wonderful spread for breakfast. My only complaints would be that occassionally there was a horrible smell in the bathroom and the spiral stairway to the guest rooms can be tricky if you are elderly or someone, like myself, who has a difficult time with stairs due to knee or foot injuries.

great service, adorable outdoor space

Our stay at hotel Sphendon was made great by the service, proximity to all we wanted to see in Istanbul, and the beautiful outdoor space where we had our complimentary breakfast. We were only there one night but would book again should we need a place to stay in Istanbul. The room was a bit small and needed some TLC, but all that was mentioned before more than made up for it.
