Complaint about reservation cancellation

Right after I arrive in Istanbul I got a WhatsApp message from the hotel asking what time I was supposed to be at the hotel to which I responded explaining that I was at the airport and was about to take a taxi and head to the hotel. In about half an hour later, and while I was in the taxi on my way there, I got a new WhatsApp message to inform me that my reservation was cancelled and that they had no rooms available.
This is unacceptable and has caused me a terrible inconvenience.
I demand to be compensated for it.
I have and can provide evidence of the above.
I look forward to hearing from you.

The hotel was located close to places of interests. Rooftop restaurant breakfast came with breathtaking views. The staff were helpful with excursions.
The only rooms available were the basement ones, I'd highly recommend others to opt for 2nd floor upwards ones, ours smelt musty and shook each time the train went by.

The room was dirty, it was pretty cold in the room, we weren t able to turn on the AC. The room was on the street side so it was noisy. We asked for another room and we got one but the other one was also not so clean and it was cold. The staff was accommodating and polite.

AN AWFUL HOTEL - beneath contempt!

We arrived at the hotel and found it had a large notice declaring it was CLOSED. Neither the hotel nor Hotels.Com informed us. No compensation was offered other than a refund of payment. I rate this hotel as beneath contempt!

Staff was wonderful. Professional and helpful at every turn. Breakfast was very good and view from enclosed terrace was nice. And location was better than expected. Just 10 minutes from most things to see and lots of good inexpensive restaurants in similar range. Very nice place to come home to after full days exploring the city.

Straight to the point

Amazing Hotel. Its very simple. Bathroom water is hot as hell. The room is extremely comfy. Its only about a 10 minute walk from the hagia sofia, blue mosque, topkapi and the brand bazaar. The heater is will burn you. Its that good. The tv could have more channels but other that its an excellent hotel. Breakfast is eh whatever, but good enough.

A hotel we will remember

We were impressed by the warm and friendly staffs, from the manager to reception desk clerks, as wall as the room attendants. They were not only willing to help, but also were thoughtful and considerate, detail-oriented. They make us feel at home from the moment we entered the hotel throughout our stay to the time we said Goodbye to the staff member who carried our luggage to our taxi wearing shirt in cold weather. It was a very warm farewell you rarely see in New York City. We would strongly recommend this hotel to our colleagues in New York, and in TESOL Int’l whose members are from 145 countries all over the world.

Worst experience for a hotel. First of all there is no privacy, at about 1am or so someone kept trying to open my room but his card wouldnt work, then the manager came up used his masterkey and opened the door and i had to scream at him to keep him out. They tried to give thr room to someone else too. And next night EXACT same thing happened. I went to complain in the morning and there was another guest complaining same thing.

Oh and there is construction going on right next door so starting at 8:45am you would hear loud noises as if someone is drilling in ur room, all the way to 5pm. Talked to the manager about that and he pretty much said he cant do anything about it.

Great staff & close to all attractions

The staff were brilliant at this hotel. Always willing to help. Yunus even went out & got us a refund for some milk we purchased from a local store which was smelling bad. We didn’t even ask him to! Rooms were always clean and tidy and the location is just a short walk away from the Blue mosque and other historical places of interest. Overall this was a great experience for our first time in Turkey. When we visit again in sure we’ll stay at Almina hotel again.

Nice hotel. Close to main tourist sites.

The hotel was good and very close to the main tourist sites. It is also close to the main shopping district and lots of restaurants close by so easy to grab something to eat. Very friendly locals.

terrible hotel and not recommending at all,
reserved two rooms there one for my sister and her husband and one for me and my wife that we were on honeymoon, online shows this hotel is 4 star but when i got there no way and should be two stars only,
two days before my checkin i called the hotel manager and told him that we are on honeymoon and please don't disappoint us and reserve nice room with view, when i arrived noon time they told me the room not ready yet, so i left my luggage there and went out came back 5pm and the hotel manger saying that the Air conditioner in my room not working and the engineer did not come to fix it, told them in whole istanbul is it only one engineer available?
they said maybe he will come tomorrow to fix the ac ( MAYBE)
then the manger told me that i can stay in their partner hotel nearby 5 minute walk and every day morning i should come back here for breakfast, guess what the partner hotel its not a hotel, its one star guest house, i paid lots of money to stay my honeymoon in 4 star hotel and they want to move me to stay in 1 star guest house and they charge me in full for 4 star hotel,
their hotel was old building not good location as there is building instruction working next to them too noisy for builders machines tiny street and taxi can not pass from there sometime,

the hotel manager and the staff were not helpful at all and they said they can not do anything,
was very big disappointment on my honeymoon,

Cheap stay near old Istanbul center

Great location for it's price, with good buffet breakfast. Fridge in room was non functioning and shower had poor pressure with the temperature fluctuating often during use. Overall the stuff were friendly and stay was pleasant.

Its a welcoming place this quirky shaped building on a corner near the Bosphorus with lovely views from the breakfast room. I think just 10 minutes walk you would be at The Blue Mosque.

Comfortable stay. Sitting reach of major attractions. Breakfast was included which was of average rating. I, personally was ill on the last day and out shuttle pick up was 4:30pm and checkout was 12pm... the hotel staff kindly let me stay for an additional few hours.

Nice quick walk to the Blue Mosque

I stayed in this hotel with the family and it was a brilliant stay. The staff were lovely and very helpful and the hotel is very close to Sultan Ahmet Square and a very easy and quick walk to the Blue Mosque and all the shops and restaurants. Would stay here again.

Second stay since 2013, will always come back

Comfortable and clean. Good location near Sultanahmet with lovely terrace sea views. Very helpful staff, always willing to help and go the extra mile. We'd asked for a different room to our previous stay which was on the ground floor. This was because we could hear locals from outside the window in the morning so we were happily upgraded to a room on the 1st floor which was a bonus to our stay. There is a nearby railway but it's very rarely noticable. Yunus and Ali were particularly helpful with recommending sites to see and restaurants to try. We had daily conversations with the manager which added a personal touch to our stay. A spa trip with the brother hotel was arranged (Skalion Hotel) which was luxurious and made hassle free with the free pick up and drop off between hotels. Breakfast was basic but very enjoyable with Ali serving us fresh juice and always making sure our needs were met. Luggage hold is available. Overall very professional and personal service at the same time. Thank you Almina :)

A great Hotel with a Great Manager & Staff

Friendly staff. Great location 5 minutes walk away from Blue Mosque Aya Sophia and other sightseeing places. 5 minutes walk away from Sultanahmet metro station that allows easy ride to where you go to prince's islands as well as Taksim & Galata Tower.
The hotel condition is really good. Comfy and clean rooms. The staff is so helpful. Amazing terraces at the roof with a great view for drinks and breakfast.

Hotels in Istanbul are too small to be STAR rated

First Trip to Istambul . If one has to go by Expedia Reviews they are misleading . None of the unknown brands can be called 4 or 5 stars . NONE
Yet they do offer relative comfort for a small price .
If you are looking for a budget hotel choosing by price and even amenities like Aturkish bath , Sauna, Steam (room ) i Have not checked these facilities myself due to time constraints but they exist .
A small hotel in the heart of Sultanahmet walking distance to the TRAM and clean , nice rooms . Good Buffet bfast .
Front Desk can be a bit more chirpier , but He is definitely not rude . ( Just a feedback Dude) to improve your business.

A classy small hotel worth every dollar you spend .
There is a restaurant upstairs , and all that one can ask for . Clean toliets , minibar and nice Decor
I would stay here again .

I stayed for one night before i left Istambul this morning because i checked out of one more hotel i had booked in called SUR .. That is not even a hotel . not even an apartment .

I write my reviews with a bit of critical note , but do not let that restrain you from booking here .

Worst hotel to spend your vacation

This hotel looks differnt in the picturs , nothing is the same as you seen in pictures, it was shocking when I first see this hotel,, I start crying. They give me besment room with carpet I have asthma, I kept telling them but no one is there to help you. No manger..I hated myself for picking up this hotel. And I left the hotel the next day,, they did not return my money but I coldnt be there one minutes, there was alday that I had a chat with her she was shocked by seeing this hotel at first

The staff are excellent, the room was clean and big enough for our family of 3. It is near the old city, but the location is a bit odd - a few minutes walk down a dingy back alley. However, 5 minutes walk takes you to good restaurants and to the touristy part of town.

Hotel was within walking distance to a few attractions and to the hop-on hop-off bus.
However I must say the single-glazed windows in the room let in a lot of noise, especially from the laundrette below.
Also breakfast times were hectic, not enough seating, not enough food at times, and a bit understaffed.

Great modern hotel! Excellent location.

We had a great stay at Almina hotel. My husband is really picky with hotels and wanted the feel of a western hotel rather than a boutique hotel. Almina hotel was very modern and clean. The foyer gave off a contemporary feel with the lighting and modern furniture. The room was on the smaller side but comfortable enough for the 2 of us. Kind of felt like a holiday inn or best western inside the hotel.

The staff (especially one man who no longer works there) was super helpful. They arranged all of our transportation to and from the hotel and even ordered food for us if we needed anything late night. The shower was tiny. I'm petite and only 5 feet tall and found it small so I can't imagine how a bigger person would be comfortable in there. However, the bathroom was modern and clean.

The breakfast buffet was pretty good but changing it up from day to day would've been nice.

The hotel is located in the old area of Sultanahmet so it was in a run-down area. The location in terms of walking distance to local attractions was unbeatable. A 2 minute walk to the Blue Mosque!

I would highly recommend staying here and would definitely stay here again if I ever visit Istanbul again.

Nice modern hotel

This hotel is less than a 5 minute walk away from the main tourist sites (Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia etc), so an excellent location. My room was very comfortable, spacious and clean, with air conditioning and a good bathroom. The breakfast (included) had a good variety of foods available and the staff were both friendly and helpful. The location is quiet and some of the rooms have a sea view.

Perfect for Sultanahmet vacation

Hotel was exactly as was described on Expedia site. Stayed here for 4 days. Location was perfect for sightseeing in Sultanahmet area. Everything was in walking distance. Staff, especially Farah and Azkan, were so very welcoming and accomodating. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was very good! We will recommend to our friends and family.

Wifi never worked right!!! Which was a Big problem for me.
I'm A day trader and make all reservations online each day. Rooms were very small.
The people tried hard to make things right but had little to work.
The location was great but even the airport shuttle could not find the place so I ended up walking 10 blocks to get to the hotel.

Loved Almina!

We had a wonderful stay at Almina Hotel. The staff were helpful, friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Great hotel located very close to a lot of historical visiting places with very scenic view from the terrace of the mamara sea and Asian side of Istanbul. Great buffet breakfast prepared and offered every morning as part of the deal. The hotel is very clean and rooms are cleaned daily . The staff are really good , polite and hospitable. They treat you as part of the family and really surprised us with a lovely gesture of providing my wife with a birthday cake for us to enjoy the occasion. Great staff great hotel

Setting a HIGH standard

From the offset the staff were very welcoming. For a small hotel they have a real personal touch, each staff member was exceptional. The hotel have a fantastic team right from the cleaners to the manager Mr Ali, no request was refused and every effort made to please. I have to also name Ismail who was part of the kitchen team made exceptional efforts to accommodate unusual requests. Great wifi, sauna, steam room, terrace views and close to all amenities. I have no complaints only praise. Thank you for pleasant stay !!!!

Not worth the money.

When we checked in, they put us in a very small room in the basement. It felt like a prison cell underground. There was no way we can stay for 3 nights in that room, but we had already paid Hotel.com.
We argued with front desk about it. They told us that we can get a bigger room on the 2nd floor, but we have to pay 40 Euros extra for each night. After bargaining, we paid 20 Euros extra for each night, just to sleep above ground. I feel that this is a dirty tactic to suck money from tourists. They did the same thing to other people. The carpet is old, and need to be replaced. The only good thing was the proximity to the touristic places.

A standard hotel which provided the usual facilities. Most staff were helpful and were happy to help on most occasions. I travelled with my 2 year old, they were very helpful in bringing down a warm glass of milk every evening without fail. The only problem was, the heating in the room! It was set to auto and most nights it became unbearable to sleep due to the heat. Also, the day we left a huge slug managed to swirl into our room and left a slimy trail behind, when we informed reception, they didn't seem too concerned :(

Bad experience and deceiving :(

we fly 9 hours overseas based on the rating and reviews of pervious guests in the website. When we arrived we were surprised to put us under floor in the pacement despite I paid extra to take special class. when we asked them that we want to move in the upper floors , they told us we can not as the hotel is full. Then in the morning it turned out that their is only three guests in the whole entire hotel. I could not even step over the dirty carpet with my foot. With extra 30 dollars per night II changed the hotel to luxury clean nice hotel. Pictures are deceiving

Lovely small hotel with personal touch

Hotel was very well located near to blue mosque and central square.
Room on ground floor a bit noisy and on small side but rooms very clean, staff extremely helpful, breakfast huge variety of food, and nice terrace on roof where you could also have breakfast and a drink in evening.
Hamamm and steam room in hotel were good, for a supplement, but remember to heat the sauna in advance or get them to do it. We were left a bit on our own to discover how the sauna works so could be better.

Close to main sites, sea & transport facilities

Hotel room was small, no waste bin in the room (which meant we had to go to the bath bin to dispose of rubbish) and in bathroom water did not drain away easily. Many of the TV channels did not work properly and there was only 1 English language channel. The hotel was basic with no restaurant catering for food apart from breakfast and the breakfast selection of food was the same throughout our 5 day stay. Apart from the above, the hotel otherwise was adequate and clean and the staff were extremely helpful and courteous at all times with a good knowledge of local attractions and excursions, many of which they helped us in arranging.

Almina hotel was in perfect location with just minutes from the Blue Mosque and Aya Sophia. The neighbourhood had a lot of character although our room overlooked a laundry service shop which worked 24 hours so could be quite noisy. Apart from that, hotel was nice and clean. The breakfast was limited, not a lot of choice of cooked food. It was mostly salad and fruit. Furthermore, you had to pay to use an iron which was inconvenient when in a rush. There was only one located in the hotel so you would have to go downstairs and let housekeeping do it, time costly! The housekeeping staff were very friendly and always smiling. We were out most the day and only used the hotel to sleep in. I would recommend it for such use, not a luxury kind of stay due to lack of facilities at times.

Amazing views , great location

We stayed 9 night .it great location it is walk distance to town easy to find .

Nice Stay

It was a great stay. Almina Hotel is an excellent value for money. People were very helpful indeed. Breakfast was simple but fair enough. I really enjoyed staying at Almina Hotel. I totally recommend it. A small comment on it though, I was staying at room 205, the windows are not sound proof or may be not closed properly, street noise of passing cars/people shouting or so, could be irritating but it was tolerable. They can fix that for you!

Lovely central hotel with fabulous staff!

The Hotel was minutes away from the Blue Mosque, Haga Sofia, Top Kapi. The breakfast was varied, with some Turkish items as well as fruit and fresh bread. If you don't notice it, there is a lovely terrace on the roof to eat breakfast.
The kids were happy and the staff always interacting with them. All in all an amazing hotel in an amazing place. Will be going back for sure!

Excellent hotel, close to attractions & shops

Great hotel, pleasing in every way. At first I thought it will be in a quite place far from attractions. But I was proven wrong. Arasta bazaar was very closeby with few restaurants. Staff were very friendly, especially receptionist called Mr Mehmet and the kitchen staff, nothing asked was like any extra burden. In all, glad we chose this hotel, and thanks to Expedia for arranging everything. We had three beds, perfect for our children and us.

Convenient location

The hotel is conveniently located close to the Sultanahmet sights, but away from the hustle and bustle on a quiet street. This makes the hotel a bit difficult to find at first.

The room itself was fine. Fairly basic, but clean, modern and it did the trick. The same can be said about the breakfast. Pleasant enough, but not remarkable. There were no English-language TV channels, but this was not important to us and the wifi worked well.

If the weather is good enough (it was pouring down with rain for most of our stay), the hotel's roof top terrace offers stunning views of the Blue Mosque and the Bosphorus.

very helpful service

We checked in at about 9am, expecting to have to wait until the afternoon to occupy the room. But the very nice woman at the reception desk immediately offered us not only the room, but breakfast as well. Throughout our short stay, the staff couldn't have been more helpful. There are many hotels in the well-located Sultanhamed area, but I would certainly return to the Almina.

Shell Shocked

The photograph on Expedia and what I saw with my eyes is what depicts the title \"Shell Shocked\". and I do wonder who does the star category for the hotels in Turkey. The staff are helpful, rooms are very small and the bathrooms get even smaller...well I suppose the price was okay. The location of the hotel was good ..close to the Blue Mosque as well as to the waterfront....all in all a good experience nothing bad to complain about.

Comfortable, clean, and convenient

My friend and I stayed for three nights and found the hotel great. It was a little tricky to find on my guidebook's map, but once we got in it was very convenient. All of the staff we interacted with were very helpful, and the room was very nice. The only problem we had was that our door to the terrace wouldn't close fully (there was a metal gate, so it was safe, it just meant we heard more of the outside noise).

It stood out in the neighborhood as an updated, well kept establishment.
The rooms are small, but I imagine that is normal for old sultanahmet. Unfortunately the two nights we choose to stay they were refurbishing the rooftop patio. This would have added to the experience, as (aforementioned) the rooms are tiny.

Excellent location

Location well within walking distance to most of the major sites for a first-timer. Staff was extremely helpful and gracious. Wi-fi included and no difficulties logging on. Breakfast also included and very well presented. Overall , a good value for the money and would stay there agin. Only reason for 4 stars versus 5 was that room on street side traffic was a bit bothersome throughout the night.

Cute little hotel in a nice area, close to many attractions, but far enough away from the crowds.
Really good price compared to the quality that you get.
Satisfying breakfast and expensive use of the sauna and Turkish bath.

Railway line right at the back, trains go pass every 15mins, staff didnt seem bothered , any cooked items of breakfast was cold it your not a very early bird.. up side loaction is ok but expexted it to be apot for for the 4* special it describes it self as., all the pictures make it look big, but not at all, breakfast room is small and gets crowded and you end up banding it to the next table as no space to move

Sweet hotel, great location

The staff in this hotel are lovely: very welcoming and helpful. The room was clean with the bedding and towels changed every day. The breakfast was a buffet with a pretty wide range which kept me happy for the 12 days of my stay. The hotel was about a ten minute walk from Aya Sofya/Blue Mosque, via a good shopping street and the Arasta Bazaar. The area was very picturesque, with cobbled streets and a variety of houses (some wooden). A ten minute walk down the hill takes you to the shore, which makes a lovely walk. So: great location, great hotel - what more could you want?

By the way, the trains do run next to the hotel and might bother light sleepers - for myself, I rather liked the sound!

Good location right by the Blue Mosque, but also on train tracks

Decent place on charming old-world street. Free breakfast was good. Room spotless, newish furniture and bathroom elements. Free wifi. Nice rooftop terrace. I thought it was a good value, and located really well for exploring old Istanbul: hagia sophya, blue mosque, grand bazarre.

One caveat: it is right on the train tracks on the south side, where all the rooms face. Trains come by a lot. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper, but this might really bother a light sleeper.

Almina Hotel

Almina is a very quaint hotel located in an attractive part of Sultanhamet.

The staff were very welcoming and efficient.

The room was small but had everything required.

The continental breakfast was fine although the dining area was a little cramped and the food was not replenshised quickly enough during busy period.

The only downside to the hotel is that is it right next to a fairly busy train line; the noise from which is so loud it almost made the room shake.

Great place to stay!

as if my stay in Istanbul could have been any better. this hotel is great! the staff is wonderful and very helpful. you won't regret you stay here. you are 5 minutes away from the blue mosque, basilica cistern and hagia sofia. ten minutes away from topkapi palace. hotel was awesome.

Extremely unfriendly receptionist

This was our first time in Istanbul. I was with my wife and 6 months old son. This hotel is a rip off and they tried to charge 20 Euro extra for my wife I had to call hotels.com to resolve the matter. Also the reciptionsist is extremely rude even though he had rooms available he made us wait for 2.5 hrs to check in NO COURTSEY knowing the fact that we are with 6 month old baby. The only positive thing was breakfast which was pretty good as compared to our later hotels. The hotel is located in dark street which gets a little scary in the night. Also the shower is too small. I would recommend not to stay in this hotel

Nice Hotel

The hotel was close to all the mayor attractions, a few blocks from Blue Mosque and Agia Sofia, short walk to nice restaurants, but the Hotel is besides the train railway, the first day was impossible to sleep. The staff friendly and helpfull.Free wireless internet in the rooms and included breakfast buffet.

Almina - perfect location for the old city

The Almina is just down the hill from the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia and very convenient to catch the tram all over the city. the hotel staff were wonderful, helpful and quick to help with any questions or needs. a bit off the main street of hotels but quiet and convenient. be sure to take your breakfast up and eat on the rooftop terrace with the sea view!! a lovely spot to start the day.

AVOID - NEXT TO TRAIN TRACKS

This place is directly next to the train tracks, so unless a rumbling commuter train every 10 minutes helps you fall asleep, take my advice and avoid this place! If you really want to say here at least insist on being on the side of the building facing away from the tracks, though they will try to talk you out of this by saying the road is just as loud - (it's not).

The night door man was using the room adjacent to mine as some kind of by-the-hour flophouse, I'd get back to my room and see shady looking couples hanging outside my door and waiting their turn - should I really give you any more details?

The hall lights were often turned off so it was challenging to find your way back to your room, maybe to save on the electricty bills.

They forgot my wake up call, which really annoyed me.

This might be a good deal for $50 - $70 a night, as the location is otherwise good, the rooms are well furnished and the breakfast buffet was nice. However pay more than that and you're going to feel ripped off.
