Great Potential, Poor Execution
Centrally located near Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks, Hotel Dilhayat Kalfa has potential that it unfortunately fails to meet. My experience was marred by inconsistent communication and maintenance issues.
Communication & Arrival
I requested an airport pick-up the night before, but received no response until hours later. Clearer communication—even a \"no\"—would have been appreciated. Upon arrival, I was checked in by a staff member who spoke no English. While the owner was helpful once he arrived, the front desk is not staffed 24/7, which is worth noting for late-night needs.
Room Quality (Room # 16)
The room had several functional flaws. The \"fix\" for a deafeningly noisy bathroom fan was simply to disable it entirely. I was left with six bottles of shampoo but no bar of soap, and the showerhead would not stay upright. Additionally, laundry facilities are not on-site as advertised, but located a short walk away.
Breakfast & Departure
The rooftop terrace offers a lovely view of the Bosphorus, and the breakfast (8:30–10:00 AM) varies slightly daily. However, when I requested a \"to-go\" breakfast for an early 7:00 AM checkout, the owner's \"maybe\" resulted in nothing being ready—not even a simit or a boiled egg. To top it off, the taxi arranged by the hotel arrived early and started the meter before I even stepped outside.

Verdict: A great location and nice view don't quite make up for the lack of professional service and basic room maintenance

Comfort in Historical location

The hotel is a charming little place run by family. The service was great, we got a lot of help and everything we asked for. It felt like we were staying with a relative.
The building is old, historic, so it was worn down a little but it was everything I was hoping for. Short walk to all historic monuments with lots of food options near by. We got the family suite because we were there for a friend’s wedding and it was very spacious and comfortable to get ready in. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants an authentic experience.

The property is small so it’s very homely! Mr Ali and Mr Jesmine did everything to make our stay comfortable!
The staff are very kind friendly helpful and generous !
The breakfast was simple and modest. The rooms were cleaned every day and we were able to get our laundry done daily thanks to Madonna the house keeper!
I would definitely recommend this place because of the location being so convenient… Mama’s garden Restaurant was a fantastic place within walking distance for great Turkish food .. just a few minutes walk .. for silks and lamps I went to “St. Sophia’s style home” was a small whole sale boutique near Dilhayat that I would recommend for shopping as the owner was very kind and generous and had a great selection at a great price!

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Dilhayat very much and would definitely recommend it to anyone .. price safety and security - great place and walking distance to all attractions ♥️

Cleaning lady gave us attitude

The cleaning lady didn't clean our room due to miscommunications. We didn't know she didn't understand English and she didn't tell us that. But when I complained about it to the front desk personnel the cleaning lady who also happened to be the person in charge for break fast showed us serious attitude. I'm letting it go because may be she is a poor lady and I had no intention of getting her into trouble but the hotel needa to employ more staff to take care of things. Using same person for multitasking shows stingy management mindset that's results into poor customer experience. I would never want that lady with disgruntled attitude near my breakfast place in any hotel stay.

If we ever return to Istanbul, which I hope we do, we will be staying at Dilhayat Kalfa again. I would recommend this hotel very highly. The staff was amazing. It's in the perfect location, the room was clean, comfortable, and unique. There are artwork and sculptures throughout the building. But the real pleasure is the rooftop cafe for breakfast. A delicious Turkish Breakfast and the most amazing view of Istanbul. We loved this hotel!

My sister and I stayed here for about 10 days and as two ladies staying alone in Istanbul for the first time were so happy with the location! The people running the B &B are so nice and accommodating, it was like staying with family. Abdul Raheem was amazing! My sister had to go to urgent care and he made arrangements for us with a trusted taxi to take us and bring us back. He also helped call the hospital and speak to the staff later when we needed help getting the report. Above and beyond service is an understatement!
Also the location of this place is great! We could walk to almost anywhere in SultanAhmet day or night with no issues! And the view from the breakfast terrace is amazing!
If I ever come back to Istanbul I'll definitely stay here again!

We had some problems with our initial check in and the state of the room when we arrived, which was really frustrating.

We were pleasantly greeted by Abdul, our host, who set us up in a room, though we arrived before their check-in time. He further moved our luggage to another room the following day. He was most helpful is directing us to eateries, arranging for reservations to a Turkish bathhouse, and taxis to various locations. The location was great and rooms were very clean as well as having necessary amenities. Breakfast was very good with a rooftop view of the Marmar sea. We would definitely stay there again.

Awesome location for the tourist sites in Sultanahmet (ie Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern, and more) - easy walking distance. Also not far from the tram. The rooftop terrace is stunning and makes breakfast really lovely, or any other time of day if you choose. Abdul at the front desk really makes the experience - super friendly, exceedingly helpful. THANKS Abdul! Cons - my room didn’t have a fridge (it was broken and removed before my arrival), there's no in-room safe as indicated on Hotels.com and airport transfer is also super out of date. The rooms are dated and the standard room in particular was pretty meh. Perhaps others are nicer. Overall good stay.

This was my 1st time in Istanbul and I was traveling solo. Dilhayat Kalfa hotel and Abdulrahim made this the perfect place for me.
The room was comfortable with plenty of storage. It is a walkup, which wasn't an issue for me, but should be noted for those with limited ability.
I didn't have any kind of a view, but I wasn't in the room enough to care.
The bathroom was a good size and the shower worked well.
Breakfast was delicious and the views from the terrace are wonderful - more than making up for the lack of view from my room. My only regret was not having enough time to relax and really enjoy some time up there.
The location is perfect for exploring old town and close to the tram, so also easy access to see any part of the city.
Abdulrahim took care of everything efficiently and graciously. I feel like I have a new friend and will undoubtedly stay when I return to Istanbul.
Thanks for everything! Istanbul is a wonderful city! Can't wait to see you all again!

- It is walking distance (max 10 mins) to all the historic places (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Serefiye Cistern)
- The terrace has an amazing view and you can enjoy it any time with complimentary coffee and tea!
-The staff is very friendly!
- I don't suggest using your car to get there unless you are used to driving in narrow streets and crazy Istanbul traffic.

I stayed for about 6 days and had a wonderful time. The service was amazing and the hotel was in a safe, quiet area but within walking distance to the main attactions. Abdul Rahim was very helpful and helped set up the shuttle to and from the airport, as well as the PCR test for my return trip. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of my many questions with good humor and patience. It's a small operation so you see the same people every day and they are all friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was healthy and delicious. The view from the terrace was beautiful. It will definitely be my first choice when I return to Istanbul.

Positive emotions from “negative” guests

Planning a trip, thinking where to fly and you choose Turkey, then you choose your city. And this is Istanbul, then, in turn, you think where to stop ... and then you have so many options. You are seeking hotel, villa, hose etc. and you cannot decide…
So, we chose this hotel and were not mistaken. the location of the hotel is excellent, all the main attractions are nearby. the staff also knows their stuff. there is everything that an ordinary tourist needs, transfer, PCR Bosphorus and so on. people are interesting in themselves, and when you meet another good person such as, for example, Abdulrahim, life becomes a little kinder.

I was only in Istanbul for 2 nights and 1 day and I couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay. The Abdulrahim was the best host I’ve ever experienced in all of my travels and the location of this place is so close to all of the best sites in old town Istanbul. Abdulrahim helped me in so many ways, I can’t thank him enough. Not only did I have great conversations with him, but he helped me plan my journey around Istanbul so I could see everything, giving me pointers and warnings, and he even arranged a cab to take me to the airport in the morning. Thankfully I stayed one time there and so far the worst experience of the whole trip. Horrible staff and bad service. Check-out time was 12 and they insisted and pushed me to check out at 10. Breakfast was terrible. Since I checked out early b/c of them, I wanted to leave my luggage for few hours so I can go around coz It was my last day in Istanbul and had to catch a flight later that night. It was a hassle to make them understand that I am not staying there and just wanted to leave my luggage for few hours. last but not least, when I came back, all the doors were locked and no one was there. After waiting outside for an hour in cold and knocking on the door constantly, finally, the girl at reception woke up.

Nice clean hotel in a quieter area that's near Sultanahmet attractions & things like the Arasta bazaar. The person at the desk was really nice & friendly & they helped us get a taxi to go to the airport at 4 AM. Had a short stay so didn't get a chance to try the breakfast but the terrace view seemed really nice. One minor complaint was that the safe in the room didn't seem to be working.

I had a great experience at the hotel.
The location is great and the staff members are extremely helpful, welcoming and friendly.
I had the feeling that I was at home.
For example, I had a bad experience at the airport where an agency overcharge me 180 USD for the transportation to the hotel.
The staff again was very helpful and even talked with the police and offer me to go to the police station to put the complain.
Overall my experience at Istanbul was amazing in part due to the Dilhayat Hotel.

It was a home of the famous 18th century woman composer Dilhayat Kalfa, nicely renovated for modern comfort. I particularly loved the tastefully decorated reception area and staircase.

Review for Dilhayat Khalfa hotel, July 2019.

We stayed at the hotel for a week and it was everything we could ask for. It was clean and comfortable and had all of the facilities we needed. The view from the terrace was superb and we especially enjoyed having breakfast there. The room we stayed in was a good size and perfect for our needs. The location was perfect for the places we wanted to visit, for example, the Blue Mosque was literally a three minutes walk, and Hagi Sophia a few minutes further. Other key locations such as Topkapi Palace and other museums are all within walking distance, and the Grand Bazaar is also around 15 minutes walk away thus not needing to rely on any public transport. The coast is also just a 10 minutes walk away- downhill ! The manager of the hotel Abdul Rahim is a credit to the profession. He was friendly, polite, professional and courteous and did all he could to make our stay comfortable. He has sound knowledge of the area and was always happy to provide advice. The added bonus is that the hotel is in a quiet area and there are plenty of places to eat in very close proximity. All in all, I highly recommend this hotel and would happily stay there again. Thank you for making our stay so great.

Brilliant overall!

A very comfortable clean hotel to stay in. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.

Geographically the location of the hotel is brilliant as it is within walking distance of the public transports, taxi stands, Topkapı place, blue mosque and Aya Sophia amongst other places.

The service team are very friendly and supportive.

I will be coming back here again to stay and I would highly recommend this hotel to others, especially if you’re travelling on a budget.

Lovely hotel and staff with great location

If you are a light sleeper like me, this hotel is very suitable for you as it’s very quiet at night although it’s close to major tourist attractions! Take Airport Bus 16, you will arrive at the place near the mosque. Just a 8min walk and you will arrive at the hotel! I really enjoy the breakfast located on the rooftop with a gorgeous sea view! The 2 ladies on the rooftop are very nice and always smile at me. There is a power socket near my bed so that I could use and charge my phone while lying lazily in bed. More importantly, the receptionist, Abdul, was passionate about his job. He was eager in introducing me the tourist spots and helping me solve my problems with his fluent English. I would definitely come back to this hotel the next time I visit Istanbul!

Best place in Istanbul. Miss it at your peril!!!

Wow! A hidden Gem. A perfectly lovely unique hotel, tucked away behind The Blue Mosque. Imagine eating a lovely breakfast overlooking the sea, watching the boats coming and going. The minarets of the Blue Mosque are right there behind you. And green parrots are there to entertain you in the trees too. The sights of the European side of Istanbul are all within easy walking distance. Restaurants, bars, cafes on your door step. Then, when you get home after a tiring day, plenty of hot water, fluffy towels and a comfortable bed. The welcome was lovely, felt very cherished.

A feel of home !

The hotel- The hotel is located near Sultan Ahmet square yet away from the noise and crowd. The room was classy and of decent size. The bed was big and comfortable. The toilet had that modern look, had hair dryer, bidet, decent shower pressure and had some toiletries. The roof terrace was amazing and good place to chill with a great sea view. The restaurant is also on the top floor. The breakfast was decent, good varieties and it was the same everyday, but no complains since its complimentary. Also the cost per night is reasonable.

The staff- Mr Abdur Raheem was very nice, helpful, funny and friendly man. He provided excellent customer service and made us feel at home. The two ladies at the kitchen was also really nice.

The cons ? There was no baggage helper. Hopefully they do in the future. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Dilhayat Hotel and had a great time in Istanbul. Really beautiful.

Fine hotel, excellent service

A fine hotel, absolutely in the heart of the old city. Rooms are good, clean and well-serviced. But the main attraction is the service, of which I must make special mention. The desk manager spent hours of his time resolving an issue I was having. This is extremely valuable in an emergency. I give him and the hotel top marks.

We loved this hotel!

Our stay here was wonderful! The hotel and the area are beautiful. The staff is welcoming and nice, and the rooms are clean and well equipped. And the rooftop terrace/dining area was gorgeous, with great views of the sea and surrounding area.
Easy walking distance to lots of landmarks and sights. We loved our stay here. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Charming little hotel

Charming little hotel. Beautifully furnished. Nice breakfast on the terrace with a great view. Location is fantastic - close to everything but quiet enough to allow a good night's sleep. Would stay here again if we go back to Istanbul.

Cute hotel in a good location

The location of the apartment was fantastic, it was walking distance from the blue mosque! The hotel staff were very helpful throughout our trip and sorted out our hotel transfers for us. The room was very clean and tidy. The breakfast was simple but satisfied us. Good value for money, would recommend!
