This hotel is magical. It’s small and spectacular, with the nicest staff and everyone was so welcoming. We loved our stay so much and I would highly recommend. The room was gorgeous, pool was amazing. Location is perfect- peaceful and beautiful. We loved the cliffs. We watched bats leave the caves at desk and rock climbers. The food was delicious. Lots of little extra touches in the room. I would 1000% go back.

The resort is located in a beautiful spot. It’s quiet and not on the Main Street which was nice. Had a beautiful view and pool. One complaint we had was that the water isn’t safe to drink and they only provided 2 very small water bottles of drinking water per room and it took an act of god it felt like to get more… we have stayed at plenty of resorts where they provide filling stations or unlimited water bottles of water, also we had to pay for water at the pool, no good.
Another complaint is that the towels for the pool were very thin and small.

AMAZING, would recommend everyone to stay here. It is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. The free breakfast is so good, the staff are all so friendly and helpful, the pool is phenomenal. The rooms, walkways, bathrooms are all extremely clean. Very quiet and relaxing. The walk into town takes about 5-10 mins. There is a slight hill that I walked up barefoot with my backpack but there is a free shuttle the resort provides that goes into town and will pick you up from town.

Peaceful and friendly resort

We stayed 2 nights in the entry level room. The room was traditional in design, a good size, great aircon, very comfortable bed and had all the expected amenities, including free water refills each day. The staff were all friendly. We ate in the restaurant one night - good food at a reasonable price, though they struggled to serve the food promptly, which seemed to upset some other diners. Breakfast options were good. Nice pool with great view of the surrounding forest area and huge rock, and it was interesting to watch brave people attempting to climb this. The pool area needs more sun beds though we did get a bed on the lower terrace. Bathrooms could do with an update. The tuktuk was very useful and we used it to get our luggage up and down the hill. The walk down to the shops and beach was ok, past the cave, though the monkeys were best avoided and were happy to take any food off you without asking!

Pool was nice.
It is located at the top of the hill so a bit of a climb. It is easy to walk to beach and to restaurants.

Gorgeous view of water bellow. Excellent breakfast buffet. Staff very pleasant and accomodating. Short walk to main village but it is uphill coming back to the hotel and a bit of work. There is a complimentary shuttle that runs hourly in both directions.

Stunning views from the pool and the tuktuk to and from tow was a great benefit for my mom who struggles with mobility. Wish there was somewhere to refill your water bottle instead of always using plastic bottles. Breakfast buffet was by far the best I had in Thailand!

Beautiful resort in Railay

Beautiful resort away from the hustle and bustle of the walking street. The staff were very friendly and always accommodating.

The resort is only an 8 min walk from the walking street and 10 mins to east/west beach and 20 mins to Phra Nang Beach. They also offer scheduled tuktuk services towards the beaches for free.

The cottage room was quaint, clean and comfortable. The pool view is spectacular, seeing the beach and a rock climbing wall. We decided to extend another day because of how beautiful Railay is and how great this resort was.

This is a beautiful resort. Our rooms had lovely jungle mountains view. Gardens are gorgeous. Buffet was excellent. Bed was a bit hard but nice clean fresh linen. The pool is incredible with the position and vista from every angle breathtaking. We didn’t enjoy the steepness of the paths and the long walk through dark alleys to get home at night. However the resort did offer to drive us in their tuktuk whenever we wanted. When we arrived at the pier we phoned them and they picked us and our luggage up within minutes

We loved this hotel. Surrounded by the karst mountains & jungle with a view of the ocean, what more could you ask for. The cabins, pool, and free breakfast was great. We got to watch monkeys while eating. The service at the pool bar was really good. The loungers were usually full & the ones on the deck in front of the bar need to be replaced. The shuttle back from the beach was hit & miss but it’s not a long walk. I loved Railay and would definitely stay at this hotel again. Can’t beat the price !

If you want to stay in the area with the best view of the ocean and a quiet people free area- this is it! The pool alone with its happy hour of drinks 100 bth was incredible! The location is perfectly in-between both beaches with the view of the East beach. It was so easy to walk everywhere in the area.The rock mountain next to the resort is stunning, while providing entertainment as people climb it. The service was wonderfully, we were greeted with a welcome drink and offered complimentary ride to our room. The morning breakfast was always delicious and the staff so kind.
I recommend this for any solo, couple, or family. We LOVED our time! My partner and I also went end of October which was perfect weather with not as many tourist crowding the areas.

Looks can be deceiving

At a first glance, I was really excited about this place, but negatives kept adding up. We had a very loud baby right next to us that cried all night (not the hotel's fault), but they didn't have ear plugs. They instead offered to move us rooms when one became available (2 nights later), so 2 nights not sleeping at the hotel we paid for out of 4 nights. Our new room had a very unfortunate balcony and room layout. If people wanted to stand and look at the jungle, they were also looking into our balcony/room. During our morning coffee on the balcony, we had a couple stop on the public walkway and comment about things in our room. Complete lack of privacy for anyone unfortunate enough to get that room. Next, we went hiking to the Lagoon and I got dirt on my legs and hands, so after I showered, there was a slight bit of residue on the hand towel as well as a smudge of mascara, of which I was charged for- so don't plan on using the towels for anything other than a pre-cleaned body - or bring your own. The private transfer we paid for (1700 baht) was significantly more expensive than getting it anywhere else, but got us to the airport in the end. We were with another couple but they refused to let us share the transfer. The whole way to the airport we followed our friends, wasiting fuel with multiple boats, tuk tuks and transfer vans that were completely unnecessary. The tuk tuk from the boat to the transfer van also couldn't fit our luggage and us so we had to walk to the vans.

Overall disappointing. We sent two emails confirming with the resort that we had a direct pick up booked from Krabi Airport to the resort, organised by them, but when our flight landed we had nobody waiting to pick us up. After calling the resort multiple times from the airport and being stressed and not understanding anything the person on the phone was saying, they finally realised they made a mistake and somebody came to pick us up an hour later. We saw a lady at the airport pay the taxi driver taking us to the pier 300 baht but we were charged 800 baht for this, and also over 700 baht for the long tail boat transfer which is actually normally only 150 baht when you book yourself!! When we finally got to the resort, we asked for a discount considering they forgot to organise a taxi to pick us up and made us wait for an hour, but we still had to pay 1700 baht total!! Such a scam and waste of money. The resort, pool bar and daily breakfast were nice and the staff at the breakfast were lovely. However, our bathroom in our room was pretty disgusting for the price we paid. The shower was yuck and the toilet seat was broken. We also found a cockroach in our room one night. We didn’t get coffee or water refilled like it’s supposed to by room service after the second night. Also, it’s a good 20 minute uphill walk from the beach and restaurant area and the shuttle service isn’t reliable. I would definitely not come here again and would not recommend anyone else to either.

The location was lovely and we enjoyed being close to, but not surrounded by, the restaurants and shops. The pool area is very nice and the pool view is divine. We booked the transport service from the airport, and we were so glad we did! Nice cab ride, followed by long tail boat, followed by tractor pulling a trailer where we and our luggage arrived to the resort. It was an awesome introduction to the area! The only negatives were the pillows were not very comfortable, and the pool towels were in short supply. That didn’t really cause hardship, more of an inconvenience. Oh, one more thing, the breakfast was great too! There were lots of choices in the buffet and you could order eggs or pancakes as well. My favorites were the banana pancakes and the curry option in the buffet. It is an incredible value.

A little touch of paradise

This is the second time we’ve stayed at the Phutawan hotel in Railay. The location is great, service is always great but we were sad to see they had made some revisions on areas such as breakfast where there were not so many options from the buffet. However we did notice you could order certain things for breakfast off another menu which was nice and overall it is still great. We recommend the French toast and banana pancakes those were delicious. In terms of room the first time we stayed on the main hotel with a balcony and sea view which was amazing pre pandemic, this time we stayed in a deluxe cottage. The cottage was cute, clean comfortable and had its own balcony, the first cottage we were taken to needed a little TLC (such as bathroom window lock broken, front door crack stuffed with tissue I presume this was to stop mosquitos from another guest) so we politely asked to see if we could move to another. The staff were very understanding and took us to look at a few other deluxe cottages which were well maintained and beautiful so we had a wonderful stay with lots of room. Highly rate this hotel as it had everything you need but sad to see they had removed the raised platforms with bean bags which use to be on the viewing platform - we missed those as it added a romantic and bohemian element we hope they bring them back. They also have a free shuttle service down to the walking street too which is great and super useful when you have to bring back packs or suitcases.

I really loved this hotel. It was up in the mountains and gave us an incredible view of the water and even the sunrise. Breakfast was nice - and we gotta sit outside and it was very pretty. The pool was very relaxing as well with a great view. Our room was accommodating - we had to squeeze 3 people in a room but it worked well for us. I wish they would change the pillows- they are firm and extremely big and thick - so you couldn't really lay down with them. I slept with my airplane neck pillow. Other than that I cannot recommend this place enough. Ir really was so beautiful and an easy walk from everything. They also offer rides down and if you call- a ride back up. But it really wasn't a bad walk from either beach.

The view is absolutely amazing from the infinity pool and our oceanfront room. I loved the breakfast, pool, the natural beauty surrounding the entire hotel, and the staff! They went above and beyond. We had to leave at 5:30 am to catch a flight (reception opens at 6 and breakfast starts even later) and they were not only there to check us out at 5:30, but had breakfast to go and even gave us a ride to the pier. Thank you for a beautiful visit. We will return!

We were welcomed and allowed to check in before the 3:00 check in time. We used the pool while waiting for our room to become ready & ate at the restaurant. The pool was not sparkling clean but was still a great feature. We had a major issue which we reported to the staff the morning after it was recognized. They said they would fix the issue immediately but they did not have another room to check us into. Our friends reported the same issue on the second night yet they were able to switch into another room. We are very unhappy with the issue not being resolved and have emailed the hotel directly for compensation. Still waiting on a response and it has been over a week since we checked out. I will update this review later with photographs of the issue if the hotel does not compensate us.

Amazing resort - beautiful and comfortable!

AMAZING hotel. Literally so beautiful and fantastic view from the pool and mountain view rooms. The climb up the hill to the resort was not as bad as other reviews made it seem. It's a 10 minute walk to either side of Railay. Loved seeing the rock climbers from our porch and even saw monkeys rock climbing. Our room was really nice and comfortable. Saw one lizard but it wasn't a huge deal, you are literally backed up to a jungle so the perfect location makes it worth running across a lizard haha. Don't pay more for the breakfast - it's very average and you can always buy it when you are staying there (I think for cheaper) if you decide you want it. Super helpful staff and there was a tuktuk and tractor that would sometimes take us down the hill. Stay in Railay and not in Krabi town. This place is beautiful.

The hotel is on a little hill next to the rocks with a beautiful view to the sea and the surrounding mountains. I stayed in a superior cottage which was nice but you have to be careful which one you get. The upper ones have a nice Mountain View, the lower ones have no view at all. The breakfast is ok but sometimes it takes too long for gone food to be replaced. I asked for a late check out (I even offered to pay), which was declined. The reason given was that the hotel was booked out which was not correct. Our cottage hasn’t even been cleaned when we finally left.

Beautiful location and view is unbeatable! A short walk from either beach up a high which is well worth it. I suspect it is the best location in Railay - gorgeous!

Stayed in the cottage and wonder if it was worth the added cost as the room was a bit tired (mainly the bathroom could use some upgrades). Would stay in the same hotel but try a pool view room next time as the view out over the pool and to the ocean is a highlight!

Breakfast had many good food options but quality not always there. Eggs barely cooked enough and sometimes cold. Breakfast location is beautiful and great place to relax with your morning meal.

Beautiful views!

Overall, we really loved our stay at Railay Phutawan. The location is *ideal* - you aren't directly on the beach with the noisy (people were not kidding - they're noisy!) longtail boats and crowds of daytrippers. Secluded up in the mountains just a 10 min walk to the beach, you have an insane view of the sea over the infinity pool, as well as a lovely karst cliff (where you can rock climb!). There's a lovely deck to have lunch on with cabanas, and breakfast is INSANE with continental and Thai options. The *only* thing that left something to be desired is the bathroom - the shower flooded easily into the main area, and sometimes there were sewer smells. This seems to be the norm in Thailand, as we experienced this in other (very nice!) hotels as well. Honestly, you won't even notice it because everything else is so great!

Location was great... you have to walk up a giant hill (or I'd you're lucky, grab a lift from the hotels passing golf cart). Better than on the west beach which is loud from longtail boat motors or the east beach which is stinky during low tide. Great view. Quiet. 5 min to \"walking street\". By diamond cave. Affordable paradise!!! We loved this hotel! It was so beautiful with the best view! The pool was incredible and we loved our mountain-view villa. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was really good. We walked to the 3 different beaches which does take some time but the whole place has such a chill vibe that the walk was really enjoyable. The AC was good and facilities were clean. The only negative for some people might be that the resort is on a steep hill. It wasn't a problem for us and it's how there is such a great view but just be aware. We loved this place!!! We want to go back and bring more friends and family. Perfect!

We were very happy with the hotel although it was quite a hike from the beach. Due to lack of WiFi we were unable to book the arrival transfer offered to us. We definitely took advantage of it upon our departure. The location was very scenic and mostly uphill. Our room was cozy and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The views were gorgeous! We additionally took advantage of having all of our clothing laundered for a nominal fee.

We had a great stay at Railay Phutawan Resort. Our bungalow was clean, felt very private and the resort was a short walk from the beaches and docks. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Railay.

This hotel is paradise! The views are the best in Railay as you are higher than most hotels. The walk there is minimal and they provide regular shuttle service. The infinity pool was stunning, hard to draw yourself away to explore. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Main struggle was which views to face, sea out to the front or limestone cliffs to the back! The pool was the perfect location for both. Would highly recommend phutawan and would love to go back, best hotel we have ever stayed in.

Railay Adventure

The staff were so nice, we had a wonderful view of Railay cliffs and monkeys were hanging out on our porch. I’m vegan so the staff made me a special rice dish with tofu for breakfast. we loved our stay!!

Great view but isolated.

Beautiful view, nice comfortable room. Only problem is isolation from bars ,restaurants etc. Quite a walk down a hill which is badly lit.
Any mobility or sight problems, don't go there.
If young and fit definitely good value.

poor customer service

tried to contact hotel. hotel receptionists couldnt understand. passed down phones. was having difficult time trying to get to hotel due to weather and transportation requiring certain amount of people on a longtail boat. did not have any descriptions when booking on how to get there. unaware of needing a longtail boat inorder to get there. receptionist was rude and hung up the phone on us. not helpful. wasnt able to get refund or any options. had to book a different hotel

A short walk to beach, it did not take that long even with children. A few nice short walks in area. The only slight negative is area is away from mainland, so the prices are quite high as there is not many options in area.

Do NOT book their transfer

For our return journey to Krabi airport, we paid the hotel 950BAHT, which included a long tail and a bus transfer to the airport. When we arrived at the dock, the taxi transfer refused to take us to the airport and we were forced to pay an extra 600BAHT. I am very unpleased with this and the resort....

Was overall excellent. One critisism is that they play horrible music next to the pool which drowns out the sound of the gibbon's calls in the forests next to them. Why they would want to do this is a mystery.

If you stay one place in Thailand stay here!!!!

We traveled for 2 weeks throughout Thailand and this was by far our favorite place. After taking a boat to Railay we walked through the main “road” of town and there were signs at the end of the road. Phutawan has their own sign of which path we needed to take. It was maybe a 15 minute walk to the hotel and we saw monkeys along the way!! We were most worried about getting to the hotel but it wasn’t a problem at all. If you get lost pop into a shop or restaurant and they’ll be able to point you in the right direction. There is a bit of a hill at the end but it’s really not a big deal (unless you have trouble walking). We splurged for the deluxe sea view room which I would highly recommend doing. Great view of the pool, cliffs, and sea! The place looks like the pictures. We stayed 2 nights in Railay and could have easily stayed more! If you’re looking for a more laid back beach with still plenty to do, please stay here! Be sure to check out both west and east Railay and hike to the viewpoint! It is breathtaking!

Secluded and quiet

Friendly staff and great transfer service to/from the airport. The rooms are dated though and need updated badly. I felt like I was in an 80’s hotel. Even the tv had to be 15 years old. It’s definitely secluded and away from the crowds, and the views of the forest are amazing, but the trek up the hill after a long day can be tiring.
The restaurant has some great food too, which saves you from going back to the beach to find something.

Fantastic views!

This hotel is in a fantastic location, it's away from the hustle and bustle but is in walking distance to east and west beach. If you struggle with slight inclines then this probably isn't the place for you but it was easy to arrange the airport transfer to and from the hotel, just contact then or send them a Facebook message, it's worth the 1500 or 900 baht for the transfer and help with bags.

The food in the restaurant was really nice but we had to wait a long time for it so we didn't eat there again, we didn't get sick or anything like I feared from the other reviews. The breakfast was also good, lots of choice from cooked English breakfast to cereal and fruit.

We found out when we checked in that the hotel had upgraded us to a superior room, the room was lovely. The bed was big and comfy, the room and the rest of the hotel was very clean. We had 2 bottles of water and tea and coffee every day. I found the shower ok, it was a bit warm hot warm hot, but it was too hot outside to want a hot shower anyway.

The pool was lovely, we didnt struggle to find a chair by the pool, late afternoon it was fairly quiet.

All the staff were super friendly, cheerful and helpful.

Railay itself is spectacular with lots of activities, we went kayaking and climbing. There's also lots of lovely bars and restaurants to choose from. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

Gorgeous view with amazing pool

We got picked up by the hotel once we arrived at Railey beach. It’s like a 15 minute walk if you don’t get picked up. Hotel staff greeted us with some welcoming drinks. Our hotel room was absolutely amazing, with a gorgeous view of the greenery. We were only there for 1 night so we got in the pool, super clean and absolutely awesome with a amazing view. We also ate at the pool bar, food was good and drinks were ok. it’s more of a relaxing atmosphere (which is what we needed..coming from PHI PHI) I would definitely stay there again.

WORST SERVICE - Staff threatened to call Police!!

The advertised view was completely different from what we found at the hotel as there were ugly buildings under construction blocking the view of the sea (the reason why we booked the hotel in the first place was for the view). The breakfast was expensive for the tiny portion and the worst food we have ever tasted. When we shyly complained about the poor standard breakfast (which tasted mouldy and bad) the hotel staff rapidly became angry and handed a phone to us. On the other end of the phone appeared to be the hotel owner who promptly threatened us with calling the Police?! Disgraceful! Never experienced anything like it. DO NOT STAY HERE if you would like a stress-free time and a healthy stomach!!

A wonderful place to stay!

We had an incredible 3rd floor room with an amazing view of the climbing cliff and the morning sunrise. It's located inland a bit--you have to walk up a hill to reach the resort, but it's worth it! The resort sits up top, overlooking East Railay. There is a lovely infinity pool with a restaurant and a nice lounge area that plays music all day--soft in the morning and evening and pop-like during the day. This resort has a good balance of activity and tranquility. The staff were friendly and the room was very comfortable and clean. Would recommend this place!

the Hotel in itself is very nice and the hotel staff was super friendly, the view feom the pool is amazing, the only problems we had was that the ac in the room broke down, and we saw a huge roach underneath the bed at some point during the night.
