Staff were generally really helpful.
My issue was the room.
I booked a single room as I was a single traveler
The room was very small
Dark, and was desperately in need of a lick of paint, new furniture and carpet. Some of the wall paper was bloated and had detached from the wall.
I think the wardrobe was bigger than the shower, which I must say had good pressure, but suffered from only tepid heat.

The room was usable but I didn’t want to spend anytime in it other than sleep.
I did ask at reception if I could move but was politely told there was nothing available till my last evening.
Breakfast was decent and plentiful and the bar prices were what I expected for a hotel.
The vista is fantastic

A bizarre experience all around. Half of the staff made a good pass at it - the people in the bar and the housekeeping staff. But most of the others seemed unable to comprehend what it is to be in the hospitality industry.
Many of those we encountered were surly or grumpy in the extreme. Day after day the breakfasts were pretty inedible.
Food was cold, coffee was lukewarm at best.
At prices like these it's a pretty poor show chaps . . . Needless to say, we won't be back.

Such a beautiful location but hotel itself is rather dated. Reception & bar service were both very slow. Our room, 56, is in need of a deep clean, as is the dining and bar area. Also, overnight we could lots of noise from reception area.

Goodness , it was like traveling back to the 80's ... The hotel needs modernising.
The room was ok , but the bathroom was so small, ridiculously so. Every aspect of the room, such as furniture and decor needs updating.
The breakfast room ( restaurant) , feels like a museum , the curtains , table cloths and decor is so old ... Actually feels dirty because everything is so old.
The breakfast service was horrendous...buffet service ran out of food and we had to wait 39 minutes to get food. In the mean time we had to ask for almost every aspect ... No butter , no milk , no cutlery... The staff were trying their best , but it was obvious that more were needed.
Oh , also had to pay extra £10 to park , which in this day and age is ridiculous. Although if the hotel added that extra cost on such platforms as Hotels.com it would get less bookings . So much so , that I understand if you book direct, parking is free . This is a way the hotel makes the hotels.com commission back ( dreadful !!).

A positive and the only one ... The new lady working on reception was so polite and helpful.

If you want a time warped hotel from the 70s to 90s youre in luck. Had the cheek to charge for £15 per night for my snall dog. I think they should have paid my dog £15 to stay there. Dated room. Old bathroom not fit for purpose. Old mismatched furniture. Poor mattress. Broken fan. Weak shower. Dirty carpet in room. Just shabby.

A little dated but service was exceptional. Easy parking. Great food both in the evening and breakfast. Clean room. Small shower and not a fan of having the sink in the bedroom not the bathroom. Small shower. I was overlooking the road and new hotel being built opposite. The restaurant and bar have amazing views over Torbay.

I’ve booked the hotel cos the view from the pictures were stunning, meant to be a surprise present for my wife, 2 nights staying but the next morning we left the hotel, a wedding function was held and music was on till midnight. I choose the hotel for a peaceful stay but although we complained was nothing they could do. Fair enough cos the wedding was on, but if I knew I wouldn’t waste my money and time to stay, losing £100 for fees. Great! Uncomfortable bed and pillows… shared balcony??? We end up having a partially refund and booked somewhere else. I’m not going back.

Car parking. £10 per day if you book through hotel .com. Total £50.. This hotel runs a free car park if you book direct.??.charge for our dog was £15 per day..£75 total. We were offered room 12.which has the smallest bathroom i have ever seen and tried to use comfortably.??.window looked out to the roadworks coach park etc. with all the noise and pollution from the cars etc excellerating at the traffic 8lights . Staff were very helpful.

Amazing hotel and excellent sea views and location, staff and food/breakfast choice were first class. Bedrooms spacious and well laid out.
Only one thing the hotel is lacking and that is the corridors leading up tonthe rooms need a refurbishment with fresh paint/carpet because as soon as you enter the corridor the smell is not very good with a musty sort of smells constantly present, as i said woukd only need a frech paint, but saying that best hotel for sea view and everything else was first class, will definitely stay again.

It’s in a dilapidated state.
The wash basin was clogged, so I called the reception at around 9 pm to report it but there was no reply - they could’ve been busy! As it was late do didn’t bother about it.

The staff at the hotel were excellent, as was the food. Beautiful views.
Tables in the bar area were often dirty with drink rings/spills and crumbs, the beds VERY uncomfortable, mattresses were very worn (like sleeping on cardboard) and nothing at all left in the pillows. It’s an old building with dated fixings, but for a quick stop over whilst visiting family it did what it needed for us.

Nice hotel, lovely staff, tasty food awesome view.

Pleasent hotel, very popular with mature travellers. The room was basic, clean and comfortable. I was very greatful that our window could be opened as I always get too hot indoors. All staff members were polite and helpful. Nice breakfast with a fantastic view as we were sat in the lounge area for food as we had our dog with us. It was wonderful to be able to eat in the hotel in the evening, the food was very tasty and my partner really enjoyed his steak. We will book there again in future and it was wonderful that we could take our well behaved dog with us and she thoroughly enjoyed having lots of fusses for everyone she met.

Disappointed shall not return

I was disappointed to find that the gym and pool which is listed as provided was only at the sister hotel across a busy main road. There was also a lot of noisy construction. The Wi-Fi was terrible so had to use my personal hot spot-not great as I needed to work from my room. The staff however were really nice . The hotel is very dated

Arrived at the hotel no available parking so had to park in front of No parking sign was told by quite a grumpy receptionist that is was ok to park there as long as we weren’t blocking any other cars!? Hotel is in desperate need of updating, feels like back to the 90’s. Room was noisy from the corridor, people walking past on the creaky floorboards and you can hear what they are talking about, the room was ridiculously hot and small for a family room, we had a road side room, and as it was so hot we had to have the window open with cars zooming by constantly as on a main road into Paignton, not ideal so none of us had any sleep! Chose to eat out as the Menu was not very appetising, came back and a few parking spaces had become available, the hotel does not take any responsibility for any damage to the cars, we noticed someone had scraped the front of our car the next day! Breakfast in the restaurant was not good either, ordered a full English, asked for beans in a separate bowl which I gave to my husband and burnt my hand by lifting it off my plate, was not advised the plates were hot! Member of Staff came over and gave me some ice for the burn. The breakfast itself, well, the bacon was like it had been boiled, completely white not crispy, sauté potatoes were soggy and looked black, sausage and mushrooms were just standard, very disappointing stay and safe to say we will definitely not stay again.

Good hotel in a great location.

We enjoyed our stay. Staff were very helpful and approachable. The rooms were comfortable and seemed recently refurbished. The food in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner was good, fairly expensive for dinner. The bar food was also good and better value. Views from the dining room and, especially, the bar were very good and it was lovely to walk out onto the terrace to look at the bay.

On the down side, we had asked for an accessible bathroom for my elderly mother-in-law. The only real accessible feature was the walk-in shower. For example, there were no grab rails which are an easy to fit aid that are both practically helpful and give confidence to those who may be a bit unsteady on their feet, or need to grip something to help them stand up. I think the hotel should be more open about its limited definition of “accessible”. Fortunately, we had brought with us equipment that mitigated this.

Thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Hotel location on the beach is superb. All staff and restaurant food were exceptional.Our room was rather small, worn carpet and chairs should be replaced,however everything worked ok and the room was satisfactorily cleaned every day and the beds were comfortable.We will visit this hotel again but will try to book a larger sea view room.

Very dated hotel 30 minute walk to to Torquay extortionate prices for food beds all clean but dust everywhere just a disappointment for so much money wouldn’t stay again oh and if you fancy staying in bed after 7-730 forget it grass cutting and the road very noisy we had a sea view and still heard the road!

The location was ideal for us as even though a 25 minute walk to Torquay we enjoy exploring the other local areas. The view from the bedroom was lovely and didn't regret paying that little extra for a sea view.
The only downside was that the shower water was only ever luke warm.
The staff were very professional, helpful and friendly. They took the precautions due to the pandemic very seriously.

Overpriced, outdated and uncomfortable

For £60 this would have been fine. However, I paid £140 for a room with no breakfast included (and also would’ve charged extra for a kettle, tea bags and instant coffee). I genuinely don’t think that the room has been refurbished in the 21st century - it was awful. Room was incredibly stuffy and had to have windows wide open, which was far from ideal when overlooking a busy A road. Mattress was knackered as were pillows too!

That said, staff were friendly and service was fine.

Tired hotel with good views, breakfast and service

We were lucky enough to have sunny mornings on each of our 3 days at the hotel, so were able to enjoy the tasty breakfast outside with the nice sea view. Our room however was small, stuffy and basic and looked out into the car park. No daily clean due to Covid. The Interior of the hotel itself Is clean but in need of renovation. The staff however were very good and we felt well looked after. The car park can get over full so you have to park in the hotel over the road sometimes. I was able to swim in the sea directly from the hotel each morning. And we even saw a seal swim past during breakfast. All in all, a decent base to explore the area and a nice breakfast experience to set you up for the day (especially if you can have it outside in the sun). Try and get the sea view and make sure you add breakfast when you book!

The service and the attention we received from the staff was amazing. Really friendly and thoughtful. The location was beautiful and the outdoor seating area was wonderful.

The Hotel itself is very dated and could do with new furniture and decor, lots of chairs were threadbare.

Worst hotel I ever stayed in. No remote for the tv on first night. Most uncomfortable bed ever. And had to leave my credit card details on paper as internet down and they proceeded to take £123 from my account (rectified afterwards) but should never have been entered in the first place. Awful customer service, genuinely did not care about my experience and made formal complaint and did not bother to look into my complaints. Not sure how they can get away with it.

You have a nice sea view. But hotel is very old. You don't get any room clean on a daily basis. I was there two nights and nobody tidy up the room or change towels. A lot of improvement is needed.

Unexpectedly dissapointing

I planned a short break of two nights in Torquay and four nights in Newquay. I had a single room. I went to my room No. 44 and looked at it and noticed that it had no blind on the bathroom window, I was then given room No. 64 same size room and bathroom (shower room) which was very small. The single bed was not all that comfortable but I had no problem sleeping. The noise from the road was significant, it sounded like cars cruising up and down the road. The room was also overlloking the waste bins.The shower was running all night, I could not fully turn it off and the shower in the morning was at best just luke warm water (hot water to the hand basin). I use to stay at Best Western hotels due to my work which is why I chose this hotel. I feel that these two rooms fall short of the 3 star accommodation I would expect from the Best Western hotel group. I did not have any meals at the hotel so I cannot comment on the food. Compare this review to my review of the Victoria hotel in Newquay which is also a 3 star rated.

The view out to sea is phenomenal and the room itself was acceptable. We booked last minute with a third person in the room and everything was properly set up. The building and room itself was kinda quirky as it was old and probably updated in the 70s, but not since then. No major complaints other than that the room was really stuffy, even when we opened the two tiny parts of the window that we were able to open. Most people would probably just think it cozy though
