Room cleanliness was good. However, the hotel has switched from aircon to warmer mode too early. As the winter was delayed, the enclosed room was warm even by just turning on the fan. Despite feedback to the hotel, the only solution they had was providing cooler fan that didn't solve the problem. Such act demonstrates the lack of sensitivity to the needs of the customers.

The place was clean and well kept. However, the hotel was too early to switch to heater mode from aircon despite the late arrival of winter. As a result, my family had to endure the comfort of the warmth in the enclosed room without the cool of aircon. We were dismayed by the hotel's decision of not switching back to the aircon inspite of the feedback. Instead the hotel chose to provide us with air cooler which is a show of lack in hotel's service quality.

The hotel and rooms are nice. The biggest problem that we had was the temperature. The rooms are not individually temperature controlled so our room was blazing hot. The first night the staff gave us a fan that you filled with ice (which felt like 1930). It was unbearable. The second night we asked the staff to move rooms and they said there were no other rooms available and they agreed that the room was very hot (measured at 78 F); they stated other guests complained it was too cold. We happy said "we will trade them", but they did not laugh. We were given another room which was slightly cooler (74 F) and we slept there our last night. The staff was helpful enough but our experience was miserable. We did not receive any compensation. We also ate dinner at the restaurant and the failed to bring our desserts and coffee with our dinner sets. It was not worth bringing it up to them. They also could not make a Manhattan coctail with a fully stocked bar. If it was not on the exact menu then it was not do-able (common in Japan). If we had not had the temperature problems I would have given this hotel a very good rating but we were exhausted every morning because we would sweat all night.

Solo holiday in Kumamoto

Three night stay in Kumamoto for a quick getaway. Crowne Plaza was easy to check into, drop bags, and head out to site see. Clean and mostly comfortable; the beds in Japan are always to hard. Location is good. One stop away from the JR/Shinkansen station and easy to walk if you want. Also a few stops on the tram away from shopping, restaurants and bars. Considering the low cost per night, would definitely stay again.

Nice but not close to city center

Hotel exterior, interior, room, bed, amenities, service, breakfast are all good.
No bottled water provided.
Location is not close ( about 20 min or more by foot) to city area and shopping district , you have to take a tram or a cab (about ¥880 to ¥1060) to city center. Hotel provides shuttle service to and from train station (ask for time scedule when you book the hotel if you need the service, it's better than dragging your luggage on road). For those who want to take bus to Kurokawa onsen, there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel ( the bus comes from train station directiion and this is the 2nd stop).

I think that so far this is the best hotel I've stayed in! The staff makes the whole difference, it's kind and efficient, they work hard to make your stay pleasant. I had lots of things to do during my stay and the staff was of great help. For example, I received good advice for a one-day tour around the city, I could use the services of its bussiness center to print some air tickets and reservations, I could also arrange the sending of my luggages to my lodging in Tokyo, I asked for cleaning service and the cleaning crew did a great job in our room paying a lot of attention to the details.
The breakfast offers a variety of both, western and Japanese dishes. The proportion of the number of waiters and guests is so well-balanced that the service is smooth and fluid.
I highly recommend the Japanese restaurant of the first floor, the tempura is excellent and the misoshiru and rice are simply delicious!

We are really pleased to know that there is a free hotel shuttle bus that runs between the hotel and the JR station. This saves us time and power! We got a really warm welcome from the hotel staffs. The room is nice and clean. However, since we are from Thailand, we are not used to sleep in a room without air-con. I tried to turn the air-con on but it seems not to work during the winter so we had to sleep in 27C room. We woke up a few time but it was all right because we were really pleased with the breakfast selection. Also, since we checked in at 6pm, the staffs let us check out at 2 pm the very next day.

My first experince, hotel where is no fitness center, swimming pool and lack of biz centee. Extra bed is too old and weak to resist my back pain worst one is plumber and toilet, but hotel staff only can cover that complains. The hotel offers free shuttle bus to and fro Kumamoto JR station, which is a big convenience given our huge luggages. Upon reaching the hotel, we were greeted warmly and check in was a breeze. The service was excellent throughout our stay. Some of the staff spoke very good English (in Japan context), especially Mr Tanaka who also recommended a great restaurant for Basashi. An incident involves the housekeeping misplacing one side of our socks. It was a small matter really. But the attitude and service provided by the hotel to recover the sock impressed us. The sock wasn't recovered but their staff apologised so sincerely that it made us felt bad. They even surprised us with little complimentary during our check out.

About the hotel room, it was nothing short of excellence. Everything was clean and well maintained. The room is spacious compared to most Japanese hotels. We appreciate the complimentary amenities - the eye warmer, the special pillows and the relaxing tea. Although not in a central location, the hotel is only a few tram stops to Kumamoto castle and the town central.

Nice and comfort stay. Although the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, they provide a super cute Kumamon shuttle bus to / from the JR station. However, suggest to have the bus schedule from JR station to hotel to be same frequency as the schedule from hotel to the station.

Our brief overnight stay was great...There was a free airport shuttle which took us to the hotel and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The staff showed us how to catch a tram near the hotel to visit the Castle and gardens during our stay, which saved us some money from taking a taxi. It was one of the best stays we had on our recent trip to Japan.

Stayed in a "single" room which I consider larger in comparison with other single rooms in Japan. Buffet breakfast had a great selection of Japanese and western-style foods and was excellent. There were no stores or restaurants nearby, but only a 10-15 min walk to Kumamoto station. The hotel was impeccable and the service top notch.

Perfect ending of the trip

The stay is definitely great! The service provided is high quality, esp the shuttle service, I love their shuttle a lot cause it is wrapped with Kumamon with a giant kumamon the car! One thing to improve is to place a stop sign at kumamoto station, which will help the guest a lot!
The staffs are very nice and considerated and the room condition is good, we had a really nice time there.

Great hotel!

The hotel is just one tram stop away from Kumamoto station which is very convenient and it offers free shuttle bus (Kumamon-themed) service to the JR station. We stayed at a room with a King bed and we could see the Kumamoto Castle from our room.

A good choice

We stayed for three nights on a six week stay in Japan. We were very happy with the choice of this hotel which is fully up to the usual high standard of ANA Crowne Plaza hotels . Service was particularly good from all staff espcially Jeremy. Free parking was a bonus and the Japanese restaurant is very good. The only down side is the location which is away from downtown and attractions and just out of walking distance from the station if you are carrying bags. However trams are close by and taxis plentiful and cheap.
