Far away from a 5 stars same-everywhere-chain, the Village Novo delivers the local experience.There are some issues in the facilities. In my room some of the light bulbs were not working, the pipe below the bathroom sink was leaking, hot water would be unpredictable, and the wifi unreliable, and there was no phone to call to reception. However, the bathroom and the room were spacious, comfortable, and very clean, you do not need much hot water in the tropics, the wifi did work most times and with a speed considerable better than in most 4 stars hotels I have stayed in. They serve a buffet breakfast and you can, besides, place special orders without being charge extra. The kitchen stays open most days and usually have a daily special with a local dish at about 20 Rials. The drinks are good and generous. But what really makes is not the beautiful, well renovated building nor the kitchen, but two other features: the location and the staff. The hotel is located right in the North end of Porto da Barra, you cross the street and can jump into one of the best beaches around the world: the fairly worldwide famous Praia da Barra. You are close to most touristic attractions, by walking or by no more than a 20R Uber ride. The staff, starting in the front desk, passing for the kitchen, the cleaning crew, the waiters, and ending with the owner, are suer friendly and always smiling and offering an outstanding hosting service. I will be back, next time in one if the rooms with a beach view.

We liked this hotel for its charm, location, price and generous breakfast. .We reserved a room with a balcony view over the delightful Barra beach and historic fort for two nights. Unforeseen events, however, allowed us only one night, which was disappointing. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay. The manager, Cristiane, was welcoming. The location was across the road from the beach, close to historic forts, bars and restaurants and a couple of kilometers from a shopping mall. We slept very well as the bed and bedding were comfortable and air conditioning efficient.

Wonderful little hotel, very picturesque. we had a window overlooking the front street, beautiful view of the ocean everyday. Restaurants in the hotel and several right next door. 3 historical buildings within walking distance, lots of vendors on the boardwalk, no need to go anywhere , staff was so-so as far as speaking english

Perfect picturesque location

This hotel is a little gem right by the beach in Barra. It is a beautiful historic building and I had a massive room and a beach view, which was spectacular throughout the day. Barra beach is very lively and noisy but only until midnight - and that is part of the charm. Breakfast was good and the staff friendly, they didn't have much English but my Portuguese was good enough. My only complaint was that when I checked out I had a 10% service charge added to the bill. which I have never had in any hotel anywhere in the world before. I couldn't understand if this was optional so paid, and it wasn't too much, but this was the only problem with an amazing weekend break. Without this strange charge I would have given 5 stars.

So terrible, couldn't stay for another hour

The hotel is incredibly worn down and dirty. The entrance is through one building, which connects to another building through a confusing and dark maze to reach the room. I got lost, as there are no signs, and went through neglected areas of the hotel full of spider webs and trash everywhere. Smells from the kitchen are also very present in the rooms. I asked for a refund after check in but the hotel made me pay 80$ anyway. It's inacceptable. I went to another hotel as I couldn't even bring myself to sleep at Village Novo

Great location across the beach

Village Novo Beach Suites is an old and small hotel. The first room given to me had a faulty toilet flush so I was moved to another room, which was clean but had a faint smell and with no hot water shower. The lack of hot water did not matter much because it was a hot week then. The WiFi connection was not bad but there was no tiny table where I could use my laptop. the size of the room could not accommodate such table.

What it lacked in amenities, the hotel compensated by its great location, and friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is located just across the Porta da Barra beach, separated only by the main thoroughfare where one can hail a cab or get on buses going to other parts of the city. The breakfast selection was good. The hotel is walking distance from an important tourist attraction, the lighthouse. The supermarket is nearby and lots of places to eat are found along one side of Avenida 7 de setembro.

The area is lively and animated almost throughout the day, from sunrise where the early risers walk, jog, run or simply enjoy watching the waves lapping against the shore. As the day progresses, more people start to crowd the broad sidewalk and the beach. In the afternoon and evenings, the restaurants become busy with dining and beer drinking clients.

I had to leave the hotel for the airport very early in the morning. I made arrangement with the lady at the reception the day before and she made sure a taxi showed up for my ride to the airport.

The hotel was charmîg its a very old mansion medium renovated but the staff was extremely great smiling and very helpfull, the hotwl owner was also all the time available very very helpfull speak very well english '' very rare in brazil'' she also helped me for booking and negotiating some tours and giving me some helpfull tips for the city, the room was confortable a little beet oldy but the bed very confortable and an amazing vue on the barra beach near the fort, the neighborhood was pretty quiet when sleeping i heared only the ocean nothing else, for a short stay i recommand it

Great place to stay right on the waterfront

The location is ideal - right on the waterfront. The neighborhood, Barra, is great because it is easy to get to all the main tourist destinations in Salvador but it's a pretty calm neighborhood compared to downtown areas where other hotels are located. At night the boardwalk can get crowded and loud but it was fine overall.

The couple who run the hotel are friendly and helpful. They even gave us a free upgrade on our last two nights to a huge apartment on the top floor of the hotel. The building is an old mansion style, so it is not a modern building but that is part of its charm. There is a rooftop terrace with a great view of the ocean. And the breakfast buffet is excellent.

Amazing view, comfy bed but seriously noisy

Brilliantl location with beautiful sea view but right by a bus stop and above a series of bars with outside tables so there was a huge amount of noise. For those who don't mind noise, though, it's perfect as the room was spacious and very comfy and Barra is a great place to be. The only real disappointment was a sub standard breakfast.

I was originally booked for 5 nights at Village Novo Suites expecting to explore Salvador and enjoy the beach, which is right in front of the hotel. We checked out after 3 nights, and in hindsight, we should have left sooner. The room was big and clean, but that is where the positives pretty much ended. In 3 days, our room flooded when it rained, there was no hot water, and the safe locked itself with our items in it. The restaurant, which is located downstairs, was closed for 2 out of the 3 days for no apparent reason. The beach in front of the hotel was absolutely disgusting. Trash and cigarettes covered the sand. We found an amazing beach and hotel about 15 minutes north of the airport without any of the issues we found here. I can overlook the rain and hot water, but the worst part was when the safe locked, a very nice employee at the hotel called an American man who had to come unlock it. I assume that it was the owner. He barely acknowledged we were in the room and did not apologize for any inconvenience his hotel had caused. I just hope he saw that my bags were packed for checking out early when he left the room. It would be very hard for me to recommend any stay at Village Novo Suites.

Lovely stay in the Barra district

The location of this hotel was great! Breakfast was lovely as well. The rooms were large but noisy since they overlooked the main street. The bathroom was a bit small and dirty but perfectly functional.

This small eclectic hotel has relaxed maintenance standards, but we extended our stay because it has a great location on the beach (pedestrian-only area, no cars or busses) and excellent breakfast. The local busses for the old center or the airport are near and convenient. Get a room with a sea view.

Loved my stay here was 10m walk from the beach and if you want a close feeling of family this is the place to stay. Was upgraded to the penthouse suit which I would recommend booking if booking this place for an extra $10. The view from there for sunsets were terrific and there was a hammock that I slept in two of the six night there. Breakfast was better than what I expected also. I have stayed in high end hotels there before but definetly loved it here and would stay again and again and again

The website is misleading in that I thought our room had a kitchenette and balcony to beach. The room we did have was pleasant enough, but for over $300/night not the same. Our taxi driver ended up kicking us out of the taxi in a supermarket parking lot and telling us to walk around to find it!

World Cup Experience

We had an awesome experience in Salvador at the Novo Village Suites.... Great location, great beach out in front, the vicinity blooms with color from all of the umbrella and cafés each morning.... This is a well run hotel.

Plus visiting the old town was a treat....

Snorkeling in the warm water, followed by a Caipirinia on the beach was the best...

I hope to come back soon so I can spend more time here....

Definitely worthwhile staying here

This is a well maintained renovated mansion over a hundred years old. Air conditioning, ventilation and wireless worked very well. I did not like three things: 1) the pillows themselves had not been washed recently, 2) the sheets were too small for the bed, and 3) the cleaner used a highly perfumed substance to clean with. Nevertheless, when you consider the cost per night, the convenient location and how well the ventilation/air conditioning and wireless worked, I definitely recommend it. I stayed in a much fancier and expensive hotel for the next few nights and the wireless reception was terrible. The other thing about this hotel is that you get a good sense of how people in the neighbourhood (including away from the beach) live. I was a woman on my own here and did not at all feel threatened when walking outside at night even though there were lots of young people drinking on the beach in front of the hotel each evening i was there.

Great Hotel with Superb Customer Service

First off, the location is great (within a stones throw of the beach and within walking distance to a pleathora os restaurant s and grocery store. The family that owns the Hotel went above and beyond to make sure their guests felt comfortable and secure while staying at Village Novo. Even inviting my family and I to hang out with them on the beach one Sunday afternoon. I rarely write reviews but I had to make an exception due to my family thoroughly enjoying their stay. Village Novo will not be seeing the last of our family.

Unique pousada in a great location

It was great! The hotel is opposite to the beach very close to the main town with many buses passing frequently. In New year's eve the owner organised some food and drinks in the beach for the guess which was brilliant. We really enjoyed our time in there! Recommended!

Don't let the outside fool you!

We arrived to the hotel later in the day and wondered whatever had gotten ourselves into. The outside of the hotel is rustic and the area right across from the beach is busy and very alive. A great way to experience to local culture and flavor of life Inside found a well run friendly experience Great value for the price !!

Beach Lovers Dream!

This was my 2nd time in Salvador, and of course my 2nd time at the Village Novo hotel! The staff is the reason why i enjoyed my 1st stay, and the reason why I came back. They really do their best to welcome you, and to provide you with the information needed to enjoy your stay. If you are a beach lover, this is the hotel for you, because the atmosphere in the neighborhood is a perfect setting for enjoying it to the fullest. The rooms are cleaned daily, they provide a lovely breakfast, free wifi, and there are tons of nice places to eat and shop in the neighborhood.

Location + Value + Owner = Perfect (Like Home)

Quaint, comfortable, value pousada with an incredible location and an amazing owner. Too many details to list but no frills, clean, safe, AMAZING rooftop view of ocean.

Really nothing else like it in the area. And Barra was perfectly situated between Pelourinho and Rio V. so the buses were convinient. The lighthouse was a short walk away.

Beachfront in Barra

This pousada has a great location across (a busy) road from a local crowded beach which had a great atmosphere although noisy. It is conveniently only a cheap bus ride from the historical centre of town.

The building is quite old with stairs to 2 floors but had character and good free internet.

The atmosphere was good with very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was very good with freshly squeezed juices, fresh fruits and hot dishes. We had a large veranda with a hammock overlooking the beach which was great and could retire to the airconditioned room to chill. There are some good local restaurants if you dont want to go to the old town.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend if you are looking for this type of hotel and it is a real bonus having the beach across the road.

I recommend this hotel

The owners are a couple: A californian man and a brazilian woman. Among the staff, only the owners speak english, but they are always around and ready to help. They take their business at heart and want their guess to enjoy their stay.

The hotel is clean, the breakfeast is good and is well located. I had the best coffee at this hotel during my trip in Brazil.

On advice, if you want to enjoy a good day at the beach, bring nothing of value, minimum cash et make sure to agree on a price for chairs, umbrellas and beers before taking anything. And ask the owners of the hotel were to go on the beach. Even if the beach is small, there are well define sections on it.

If I had to go back in Salvador, I would go to this hotel.

Having checked reviews in other websites, I had quite low expectations which luckily were exceeded. Very good location, buffet breakfast of good quality and kind people in the reception.
Our room was a bit too small and dark (internal) but they are probably better options. Perfect for our needs: sleeping one night before going to Morro de Sao Paulo.

I guess you get what you pay for. I read previous reviews, so I was expecting more or less what I received.

They state they have aircon, and they do have aircon, but it does not work. They state they have a electronic safe, and they do, but the staff cannot open it.

The roads are very noisy, but you have to accept this if you want to be close to the beach.

The staff are friendly and very helpful, and the \"mansion\" is not quite that sophisticated, but it has been well renovated....

The views from the balcony are superb and worth walking up 4 flights of stairs to get there.

I probably would not go back, although the stay was acceptable for a once off visit.

There are lots of shops and restaurants close by, and Taxis are easy to obtain.

Não pode ser chamado de hotel, o padrão mais parece um HOSTEL. O que vale apena é a localização que é ótima! Mas o atendimento não é nada simpático, só tem 1 atendente que deve ser a dona e vi que realmente não faz muita questão de ser simpática..rs e as instalações são um tanto ruins porque o prédio é antigo, apesar de se ver que foi reformado para virar hospedagem, os quartos são fechados e escuros, só possuem uma janela para o corredor, isso quando a suíte tem janela. O ponto mais positivo é somente a localização que realmente é excelente!

O atendimento da dona da pousada é algo fora do comum. Com certeza esta entre os top 3 que eu ja recebi. Uma pousada de praia que entrega o que o turista precisa. Cama muito confortável colchão muito bom e lencois e toalhas bem limpas. O cafe da manha é maravilhoso. A localização é espetacular. Passa ônibus toda hora, ponto de taxi ao lado, agencia de turismo, restaurantes, lanchonetes, sorveteria,agua de coco na porta, barraca de acaraje e em.frente na.minha opiniao a melhor praia de Salvador para tomar banho com crianças , nadar e andar de caiaque e stand up. O por do sol é maravilhoso do terraço.

Péssima instalação. Lugar sujo. Não tem elevador e ninguem ajuda com as malas. Unica coisa boa é a comida, café da manhã. E os funcionários que são super educados. Perderam a chave do meu quarto, no dia que cheguei, avisei que o cofre do meu quarto estava ruim, fiquei 6 dias e ninguem resolveu. O meu quarto quando cheguei estava cheio de cabelo no chão. Fora que as fotos enganam muito. Você acha que estara em um hotel. Mas na verdade é um casarão velho. Sem estrutura nenhuma para ser um hotel. Reservei um quarto com varanda para o mar, cheguei la era apenas uma janela baixa, que não podia nem ficar aberta pois era tão baixo que todos na rua conseguiam enxergar dentro do meu quarto. Ah, e tinha sim um quarto com varanda. Pois era ao lado do meu, eu reclamei e não falaram nada. E eu paguei mais caro por isso. O hotel é bem caro, não é barato não para as acomodações péssimas que eles oferecem. Todas as pessoas que eu observei chegando ao hotel, tinham a mesma reação. \"Será que é aqui mesmo?\" Cara de surpreso, pois é totalmente diferente das fotos que eles colocam no anúncio.

Etablissement très bruyant car il n'y a pas de vrais fenêtres, juste des portes fenêtres qui se rejoignent mais sans fermeture. Le drap était troué. Sinon le reste de la chambre et de la salle de bain était propre.

Habitación limpia, no proveen de shampoo ni acondicionador, mobiliario antiguo, baño limpio, funcional y recientemente re acondicionado. Buen desayuno pero repetitivo.
Como sugerencia les diría que habiliten un baño con ducha para sus huéspedes que se retiran al mediondia pero desean una ducha rápida al fin del día antes de ir al aeropuerto, ya que la zona es linda y así poder pasar la tarde en la playa y si el vuelo sale muy tarde en la noche es un excelente servicio que dar. Les soliciten una ducha para el final de la tarde luego de la playa y no pudieron ofrecermela, solo un baño donde cambiarme, en la zona no hay duchas públicas, únicamente una en una tienda de alquiler de implementó de surf que no estaba habilitada por no haber energía eléctrica en la zona a esas horas. Otro detalle es que no tiene generador, por lo cual tampoco tenían luz durante el corte.

Razoável para quem não exige bom atendimento

Hotel bem localizado porém com equipe de atendimento para check in/ check out muito despreparada. Nos fazem esperar por minutos por não encontrarem as informações, os \"papéis\", ...
Cama boa e localização boa, para quem não exige nada além disso, o hotel é OK.
O chão tinha muita areia, impressão que não havia sido higienizado e sem nenhum item de limpeza (sabonete, touca de banho, etc.
Para o meu objetivo, foi OK...

Gostei muito do hotel, principalmente a cama, muito confortável lençol impecável. A Cristiane dona muito simpática e gentil. O café da manhã muito bom e com variedades! Quando voltar a Salvador ficarei no mesmo hotel.

Ponto crítico: segurança

O hotel é bastante informal, o que não seria um problema, se não fossem as inconstâncias no serviço prestado. No primeiro dia o café da manhã estava incrível, tinha tapioca, cuscuz, feitos na hora - um carinho pra alma. No segundo dia a cozinha estava fechada, no buffet, apenas umas frutas tristes, e algumas outras coisas desinteressantes.
A segurança é um ponto crítico, o hotel tem um restaurante aberto para a rua, que também dá acesso à escada, que por sua vez dá acesso ao quarto dos hóspedes. Outro ponto bastante crítico se dá pelo fato de os funcionários do hotel não usarem uniforme. Não se sabe quem é hóspede, quem é funcionário - e esses todos se misturam na informalidade do café da manhã.
Outro ponto a se ressaltar são os ralos do quarto - todos entupidos.

Um lugar lindo, aparentemente cheio de história pra contar. Pena que fiquei pouquinho tempo. As instalações são boas, mas não há acessibilidade, prédio com bastante escadas. Fiquei num quarto mais ao fundo, senti o ambiente um pouco úmido, mas há de se compreender pela proximidade ao mar e o dia que fiquei estava chovendo. Quarto super limpo, um banheiro lindo. Sem dúvida o terraço é um must ao local.

Propaganda enganosa

Chuveiro é só um cano. O vaso estava SEM descarga. Para usar vaso, nos disseram que poderíamos usar o dos quartos desocupados, que ficam todos abertos. Corredores e terraço são depósitos de material de construção. Quartos sem janela. O hotel poderia ser classificado como cortiço.Portaria a toda hora sem ninguém para atender. Qualquer um pode entrar livremente no hotel. Local da refeição sem luz. A propaganda, a descrição e as fotos deste hotel nos sites é muito mais do que bem feita: ela ultrapassou claramente o limite para ser uma propaganda enganosa.

Satisfatório.

Chegamos num domingo a noite e nas proximidades do hotel tinha um certo clima de muvuca, muita gente na rua, devido o pessoal que saiu da praia e permaneceu por ali. Mas tomando pra devidos cuidados, sem problemas. Havia policiamento.

Atendimento excelente, funcionários super simpáticos e atenciosos. A localização do hotel é muito boa, em frente a praia, aconselho se hospedarem em um quarto em frente a praia, certeza irá melhorar a experiência. Sentimos falta de shampoo para lavar os cabelos, tivemos que comprar, este foi o único ponto \"negativo\" digamos assim.

Infelizmente não foi das melhores, um cheiro forte de comida por todo o hotel e muito quente. Café da manhã fraco. Serviço confuso, preços do cardápio diferentes na hora do pagamento. O rapaz da noite bastante atencioso. Não tinha água quente no chuveiro, descarga desligada, tive que abrir várias coisas pra encontrar como ligar a descarga. A TV a cabo não tinha nenhum canal funcionando.

O Hotel tem uma ótima localização, uma das melhoras de Salvador, localizado a poucos metros do mar e a uns 10 minutos de caminhada está o Forte da Barra. Mas o local parece um casarão mal assombrado, para aqueles que buscam acomodações mais baratas vale a pena, mas para quem presa pelo conforto, não vá. Os quartos são pequenos e parece um hostel.

Ótimo custo-benefício, mas não é ideal para lazer

Nossa hospedagem neste hotel foi apenas uma diária com o objetivo de chegar de morro de são paulo para no outro dia ir para a praia do forte, então eu precisava de um hotel próximo ao terminal náutico de salvador, que tivesse um bom custo-benefício, e neste sentido o hotel não decepciona. É um hotel simples, bem localizado. Dá para ir andando ao farol da barra e passa ônibus na porta do hotel para todo lugar. O atendimento do Vicente na nossa chegada foi fora de série, muito prestativo, muito simpático, tivemos um probleminha com a TV que ele resolveu na hora. O café da manhã, mesmo simples, foi bem gostoso, tudo fresquinho e o melhor pão francês que eu comi na Bahia. Não é um hotel para quem procura conforto, tranquilidade ou um lazer mais sofisticado. Recomendo para qualquer um que precise se hospedar no centro de Salvador, não pode gastar muito e não tenha o conforto e o lazer do hotel como prioridade em sua viagem.
