Room was clean and comfortable. Kitchen was well-equipped, except that the kettle didn't work for us.
The bedding was very high-quality, nice sheets and pillows.
No problems with check-in or check-out.
It's nice that it's a gated community made me feel like my car was safe.

Check in reception staff not very helpful, did not communicate the basic information. Cleaner took away our tea towels without replacing them with new ones. Signage was not clear so we got accused of trespassing by reception staff for accidently driving into the gate when asking for check in.

A washer was broken.
We arrived after 7:30 almost didn’t get in. When I booked it said 8. The office was closed but someone was in and gave us the key. Not very instructions as to what to do or how to find the place. After a little bit we figured out how to get in and where to go.
Pool & laundry close early and don’t open until later. So we were unable to enjoy or use.

Fantastic views across the marshes

Lovely friendly staff and set in a real Portuguese village. Stayed in a two room superior apartment which has all normal amenities including a bath and a dishwasher. Fantastic views from the balcony across the marshes to the sea. You need a car or be fit enough to walk the mile to Armacao de Pera if you want to go to a touristy area but no real problem. We used the local bus service but there are local taxi services. This was our sixth visit so we definitely like it

Good value for money, good location. Only real issue is if you have noisy neighbours, the apartments are not very well sound proofed. Not clear how the cleaning works and quite irregular. There is a safe in the room, but you have to pay extra at reception. Nice pool area, friendly staff.

Had everything you needed including all kitchen appliances, iron, clothes line, garden furniture etc. Exceptionally clean and staff in pool bar very friendly. Pool very nice, a bit cold at first. Good value but need a car as in a very quiet location if you want more restaurants and bars.

Very happy with our 3 night stay here. Reception very friendly and helpful. 1 bed ground floor apartment was well equipped and clean but slightly dated, cannot complain for the price. It was very quiet when we stayed so there was lots space around the pool area. Beach is around 35 minute walk, well worth it. Lots of free parking at the beaches if driving. Local shops have the essentials and there is an Aldi around 25 minute walk away for anything else. Couldn’t ask for more, very relaxing break, would definitely go again.

This is our second stay at Villas Barrocal - the property is in a good location for accessing the beaches of the Algarve and Albufeira is close by. The pool area and pool bar are lovely.. the staff are very helpful and the drinks are reasonably priced. Two main negatives; you only get fresh towels twice a week and the television in the lounge was tiny on this occasion. Will most likely stay again in the future.

Beautiful, clean, modern apartment in resort

I stayed in two units at this resort, and this is my experience for the first unit. The second was old, had bugs in it, and the cloth furniture didn't seem clean because it was so old. However, WE LOVED THIS PLACE. This unit was on the second floor and was airy and light, and everything seemed newly renovated and amazingly clean. There was a big balcony, full kitchen that we loved using, and a big nice bathroom. The bed was incredibly comfortable and new. Very modern all around. The staff was excellent, pool and common areas looked fabulous, and the security and parking spot were great. Would definitely recommend this to anyone, as long as you request a new unit, preferably off the ground level.

Great resort in general, stayed in a bad unit

We stayed in two apartments at this resort, and this is a review for our experience at the second one we stayed at (the first was AMAZING new and renovated, so clean and comfortable). The apartment was on the ground level, which led to many bugs being in the unit. We killed about 10 mosquitos, and there were always more. Also a spider. This bed was uncomfortable (the other unit's was so comfy) - felt like sleeping on tin cans. The furniture was old and everything had cloth on it so it all seemed kind of gross. However, there is a beautiful pool on the property, staff is great, there's a bar/cafe, and the security was top notch.

As we were arriving late after reception was closed we had to arrange to collect keys. Communication by email and phone was prompt, clear a;d very helpful. The accommodation is in a small quite village only a few km from the main town with beach and wide range of shops and restaurants. You will need a car. The property itself was very clean - some might say basic and dated but for the price we paid I certainly have no complaints. The pool area was also clean, with plenty of space, even at the height of summer. Pool was very refreshing. There is a small restaurant next to the pool which serves food and drink all day, from breakfast to dinner. Finally, very conveniently, there is a small supermarket right next door to the property which stocks all the basics - with a larger Aldi supermarket a short 5 minute drive away. Overall, very happy with the stay - would recommend and even go back again.

1 bedroom apartment was amazing. Spacious, spotless, well equipped, bed was very comfortable, new mattress. Very quiet, non main touristic area. Free parking in resort. The staff were friendly and professional. Nearby is good local cafe and in Armacao de Pera (2 km away) is the best all you can eat fish restaurant Zé Leiteiro. The only bad is, that we could not stay for more than 2 nights for time reasons.

Lovely apartment setting surrounding a pool . In a quiet village 10 minutes from glorious sandy beach. You need a car to explore the area. Many fine restraunts within 15 min drive. Great for relaxing holiday.
15 minutes to Albufeira and 45 to Faro airport.

Don't arrive late

First problem was my flight landed at 2320 and the 'hotel' check-in closed at 2200 with no provision to access accommodation later! In my case that meant a costly hotel near the airport for the first night.
I was allocated a two bedroom ground floor apartment which had only one bathroom which was OK for me but for 4?
Generally the place was well equipped but no potato peeler (self catering!).
The bathroom lacked shelving on which to place toiletry items - I made do with a small unit located initially in the lounge area.
Ladies might find the fixed hair dryer in bathroom awkward, but then that's where the only mirror was.
The local town of Pera had little to see and do. Small bars/restaurants were nearby but for more choice and finer dining a short trip to the new larger town on the coast was needed.
The beach a few kilometers away was massive and there are two wooden walkways over the dunes if you don't want to walk 400 metres in sand and shrubbery.
If you are of a shy disposition then definitely use the walkways else you risk coming across naked sunbathers on the edge of the dunes.

Just back from another visit to this property. Our apartment was a first floor recently renovated property with one bedroom and a full bathroom. We also had our own parking space. The complex is gated and all visitors have to gain entry via the reception. Our apartment was fully equipped for our stay with a fully fitted kitchen including full oven and hob, microwave and dishwasher. There is also a separate laundry facility if needed. Our sunny balcony was massive and overlooked the pool area. WiFi was available and most times worked fine for checking emails, web browsing etc. The TV has English, German and Austrian channels as well as Portuguese. The apartment was cleaned alternate days and the level of cleanliness is excellent.

Excellent apartment with convenient location

We had a very nice 2 bed apartment 20 yards from the lovely communal pool. We were very happy with the accommodation.
The town of Pera was just what we wanted, not commercial but close to the action of Armacao etc. For a late June break the area was very quiet.
We hired a car and enjoyed several day trips out and about, Pera is very well placed to explore the Algarve and is just 40mins from Faro.
Overall, we loved our time and cannot recommend the site enough. We will be back!

The location like everyone else said is a teeney bit awkward taxi prices:

Anyway the hotel itself was wonderful the staff especially the woman at reception were outstanding and extremely helpful. Were there constantly to answer all my silly questions. The pool was fine 1.5m deep so not too bad. Games room was okay not the greatest but it'll suffice.

The Room was humongous me and my girlfriend had a whole extra room to ourselves. Slept in a different bed each night. The area was peacefu seemed like couples and families we were probably the youngest people around. There's a massage parlour around the corner also.

There's also a shopping centre called algarve not too far away about €12-€15. Shops included zara berksha H&M McDonald's burger King kfc. So alot of home comforts plus their own shops.

Really enjoyed the stay so much credit to the staff.

We stayed as a family of four for a week at the end of December 2015. The villa (no: 104) was very clean, tidy and all rooms were very generous size with all the facilities you would expect / need for a self catering holiday. It is located in a very small village so a car is highly recommended if you want to get around but it is also ideally placed on the N125 (main road) for all the main attractions and places to visit in the Algarve (Albufeira, Lagos, Portimao, Zoomarine etc.) Didn't get to use the pool much because of the weather but it was a good size, condition and was clean. There is a small shop a few seconds walk for all the basics and bigger shops are only a few minutes drive. The staff were always on hand to help and the cleaners came every other day. I would say this is an ideal and safe place to stay for families and couples looking for a quiet, good value and convenient base for their Algarve visit and would definitely consider staying here again.

Drop in standards.

The apartment and complex once again proved ideal but there was an evident drop in standards sadly. In our nieteen days we only had our bins emptied and the rooms cleaned twice despite an obvious reduction in occupancy this time. Last year, we found the outflow pipe from the bathroom sink leaking on to the floor and this still has not been fixed surprisingly. The wi-fi was also very poor this year. Evidently, there now seems to be a policy of cutting back on service costs.

Villas Barrocal is a nice small quiet apartment/villa complex. you want entertainment, go elsewhere. you want quiet location with a nice pool, good facilitiies in the apartment , then its perfect. apartments comfortable, air conditioned, only slight quibble is that the sofa bed in the lounge wasnt very comfortable. Dishwasher a great help.Overall a great hotel. Not many restaurants nearby, so car a must

have been here before

barracol owners are not looking after the apartments. we stayed here when they were 1st build and they were lovely. over the years we have been here a few times. this year I think will be our last a Barracol, our apartment needed a bit of work doing on it. in one room the glass door was cracked, hairdryer smelled of burning plastic. toilet had a major crack around the bowl. pool was not cleaned the whole week we were there and sun tan lotion was floating on the top. we were very disappointed in how down hill this resort has gone.

We were going to stay for 3 nights only but when we arrived we were so impressed with the facilities that we decided to stay another night. The apartment was really clean and spacious and close to the swimming pool and the BBQ. Our little one really enjoyed her first holiday. Only 10 min drive to the beach as well.

The villa was very spacious. Minimum furniture - No furniture on balcony, no longer for small lawn.
dish washer didn't work but was fixed when asked.
Fire alarm went off for the site around 6am but was sorted efficiently.
Three cockroaches in March/April will surely mean a lot more in the summer.

WiFi NOT available in appartment. Down by the pool we could get internet but it was dreadfully slow. A second key would be useful since the lights go off when you take the key and go out. The kitchen is good but we had to buy a frying pan, an ice tray (the tiny one provided was rubbish), a wooden spoon and a spatula and, most importantly, an orange squeezer. The bed (2 singles pushed together) : very hard, suit fakir. We are neither golfers nor beach babies but we enjoyed our stay none the less !

friendly town close to beach

Stayed in Pera at Villas Barrocal for 8 days - close to the beach and a centre point to make day trips by car. People are friendly, clean town, very quiet. Would recommend this to family and friends. We rented a car to get around (definitely needed) The price of the of the villas was very cheap - 30 euros a night - of course off-season. We were upgraded to a two bed-room unit at no extra charge.

We had a spacious two bedroom apartment with a lounge/kitchen, bathroom and a large balcony. Car parking was available outside apartment. Views from Balcony were graced with glorious sunsets. Cleaner was polite and very efficient. WiFi signal is weak unless you step outside. On the whole this is an excellent place to stay. A car is essential though.

We visited in December. The villa was really nice and the weather was good for 8 of the 10 days. The area is very quite, this suited us. We had read other reviews that recommended to hire a car, we did, this allowed us to travel through out the area and made for a better holiday. The wifi reception and the choice of TV channels were poor. We liked that there was a tennis court but unfortunately this was not free for guests. Apart from the last three gripes this was a really enjoyable and relaxing holiday.

This was a perfect spot.for a quiet few days one's own. Comfortable and really good.value. if you have a car it is still near enough to places like the Algarve Mall which has a very good cinema with all the latest releases and an extensive Food Mall.The village of Pera is quiet and has a few small shops for buying goods for self catering purposes. The nearby town of Armacao de Pera has larger supermarkets if needed. The facilities are great. The pool was lovely. The apartments had all you needed. Nice private balcony, air conditioning, kitchen needs. A few more channels on the televsion and a bit more strength in the Wifi would be welcome. All in all great value for money and I would recommend it to singles, couples and families.

A wonderful peaceful October break

We arrived to some beautiful October weather - having driven from Faro Airport,the check in was quick and our apartment was immaculately prepared. Our son adored the swimming pool. We found several nice eating places for evening meals, and the taxi fares were very reasonable.
The staff at reception were very helpful and answered all our queries with ease and professionalism.
We had an intinary to follow - to drive up to Santiago and then Lisbon, but in retropect would of been happy to have spent the entire week at Barrocal !!

RELAX AND ENJOY

We have just come back from a great relaxing fortnight in these villas, on arrival I went to the office to collect our key and book in and that was the last we had any contact with the office as everything was spot-on . We had booked a 2 bedroom apt. as our daughter was coming with us for the first week and that turned out to be a godsend due to the fact that all the 1 bedroom apts. are more or less basement like with no outlook whatsoever and not recommended, we had room no. 102 which was all on the level next to the pool. The pool area is the real hub of the place and there are ample beds for everyone, the pool is a good size and it has steps to walk in /out and the maximum depth is only 1.5 metres. There is the pool bar which is run by Isobel who works from 9 .00 until 9.00 at night and never stops she is brilliant and will make you anything you want and all at very reasonable prices.
In the apt. everything you need is there with an electric hob + oven and all you require in a kitchen, the living room area is basic and my only gripe is that the sofas are not at comfy and could do with an upgrade, the TV is a modern one and I had taken a hard-drive with films on to watch later at night and it had the USB connection required, the 2 bedrooms had all you need tons of wardrobe and drawers for everything to keep a woman happy. The beds are on the solid side but that's up to each persons opinion. each bedroom opened out to the veranda with beautiful views to the sea and ADP

Great apartments, couldn't ask for much more

This is the second time we have stayed at these apartments as they are conveniently close to family.

The apartments are large and really well equipped and the quality of furnishing is really high.

The pool area is nice and enclosed with a handy little bar and with the shops and cafes nearby, thee is plenty available locally, although a car is a must as the village is pretty small and quiet.

The only thing I would say that could be improved is the wifi, the coverage is pretty patchy and you have to be near the pool to pick it up.

we got a sofa bed instead of 2 double bed which was broke down and was very uncomfortable. The room had very strange smell and the bathroom was very old. Otherwise it is a good size of the apartment and the main bedroom was correct and it was on the quite area.

The hotel was generally of good standard

The hotel was clean and of good standard but the staff didn't seem to understand English clearly. The living room has an old style TV in this age and time, although the staff said they plan to update this in December. Double bed was making a squeaky noise when you lie or move. Pillows were very soft and the rooms were very clean. It's good for people who can drive, taxis don't cost much but driving would be better. On our last day we had a very bad experience that nearly cost us our flight. We booked for a taxi through the reception two days before we left and this was confirmef by the staff a day before. On the day we were meant to leave, the taxi did not turn up. The reception was not opened. Do not be deceived by the urgent number they left in front of their office door. It went straight to an answerphone and the voice was in Portuguese. We had to go from door to door outside the hotel to start asking for any taxi number. Eventually, one of the people we spoke called his friend to pick us up to faro airport. We got there just in time to check in and board the plane. Will never use this hotel again.

Spacious and Clean

Stayed for a week in August. Reception very helpful and made provision for our late check in. There's a weekly parrot show and reptile show at the pool bar but don't expect any other wild entertainment. Bar shuts early. Pool is a good size with sun loungers with umbrellas and cushions, but see below about chemicals. Play park is dilapidated. Tennis court looks good but in spite of taking kit is was too hot for us to play. Never found the activity room but didn't look too hard. Two good Portuguese barbecues are provided for guest use.

Good hotel for families

Wifi connection appalling. Swimming pool very cold. Advertised as no pets but cats lurking around. Air condintioning didn't function properly. Language barrier but staff tried to be as helpful as they could.

Lovely place.

Lovely place, extremely clean and staff very friendly but not really close to anywhere. Need a car to travel to Silves, Albufeira or anywhere else. We had booked a one bedroom apt and were upgraded for free to 2 bed apt on arrival. Rooms spotless, maid service mid week. Apartments are quiet and safe, gated with passes to get in and out. Swimming pool and toddler pool lovely with pool bar. Playground bit of a let down and not like the picture on the website. Kitchen well stocked with pans, utensils etc for self catering. Would recommend.

My wife and I with our three boys aged 6, 10 and 13 spent 10 days at Villas Barrrocal in August. The apartment was very clean and the staff very helpful and hardworking. We pre hired a Fiat Punto (it was big enough) which we think is essential for getting the provisions for self catering that the kids liked however beer, wine milk bread, eggs etc can be bought at the shop just outside of the entrance to the site. If you have Portugese tastes and are ok communicating with the locals perhaps you could get everything you needed aswell. We brought a Sat Nav with us, it gave us a couple of duff turns but getting about would have been a problem without it. The main motorway that spans the Algarve is a numberplate recognition Toll Road which has to be paid at a Post Office there is a PO about 500m from the site and not expensive. The pool bar is open from 10am to 10pm and serves snacks, icecream, tea, alcohol etc at which were very good value for money and served with a smile. Whilst looking to book a holiday we were frustrated at the ludicrous prices during the school holidays however we were very happy with the value for money. A mixture of nationalities enjoyed the pool area which was chilled out. We are not great in the heat and sun but with the sun tan cream, the car to get about to Slip and Slide and Zoo marine parks and the Air Con in the rooms (which was brill) we really did enjoy our stay

Villas Barrocal, Pera, May 2012

An enjoyable experience - very suitable for small children, with a toddler pool, as well as an adult one, children's play area (slide, swings, grass for ball games), and gated complex. Tennis court also available, and WiFi (when working).

Plenty of parking on the complex, but tended to be a bit of a squeeze outside our cul de sac apartment as most residents wanted to park as close as possible to their accommodation.

Views from our 2 bed apartment balcony (No. 122) were probably some of the best, extending across the nature reserve to the sea. Some of the 3 bed villas had views of the pool, but many of the others looked out on other apartments and buildings.

The apartment was clean with many mod cons (aircon, dishwasher, microwave etc). Staff changed linen and cleaned every couple of days, which was about the right frequency for us.

Only 1 TV channel in English (BBC World), but plenty of children's TV programmes early morning where language didn't seem to matter for our 4 year old.

Car recommended, as Pera is a couple of miles from the beach / Armacao de Pera. Small grocers shop just outside the gates for essentials (not open Sundays, however), and an Aldi for a bigger shop is found a mile or so north on the N125.

great location to see the Algarve

Wonderful people and place, great location to get around to see the rest of the Algarve the way it is supposed to be. You obviously need a car but will enjoy getting around and seeing this wonderful region of Portugal. Very close to Armacao de Pera and Albufeira if it is action you are looking for.It is close to a lot of small communities worth looking at and discovering.

Recommended for those with a car

We hired one of the three bedroomed villas for 3 nights in February for two of us, after I found a really good deal on the internet.

When we entered my initial thought was that it looked a little bit sad, but the place really grew on me as I stayed there. The kitchen was well equipped, not the most modern but with granite worktops and most things you would need including a dishwasher, rare in 3 star accommodation on the Algarve. Kitchen linens, a scrubber, washing up liquid and an initial dishwasher tablet were all provided and the linens were replaced during our stay.There was a kettle and toaster. One minus point - there were no wine glasses in the kitchen, this is the second place I have found this in the Algarve (the other being the Vale d'el Rei), and the other glasses in the kitchen were cloudy through being washed in the dishwasher, a personal dislike. However, a quick trip up the road to the excellent Continente supermarket at the Algarve shopping centre (5 mins away, on the N125 just outside Guia) soon sorted this, so for the excellent price we paid I was more than happy. Those on restricted diets for medical reasons should be aware that Continente also stock a range of special dietary products including gluten free - all on shelves in the far left hand corner of the store as you enter.

There was a 6 person table in the kitchen, one that would seat 8 in the lounge/diner as well as a plastic table and chairs outside, so plenty of options for dining.

There were two bedrooms and a full bathroom upstairs and a further bedroom and a shower room/ guest cloakroom downstairs. All were clean and comfortable. Beds were slightly firm, this is the same throughout the Algarve and is how we like them. Bed linens were of good quality and there were some spare blankets and pool towels in the wardrobes. Wifi was available, though the signal varied - it extended to our villa further away from reception intermittently, but we found sitting in the windows of the two upstairs bedrooms we got a satisfactory signal.

The lady on reception was very nice and helpful, I called in the day after we had left as I had forgotten something and she was most obliging in helping me locate it. You do need a car if you stay here and Pera itself is nothing special, (the complexe is gated and feels secure) but I would not hesitate to return if I got another good deal.

Die Klimaanlage war super. Das Reinigungspersonal war sehr gut. Das Apartment war sehr geräumig.
Der Service bzw die Mitarbeiter an der Rezeption war hervorragend!
Es fehlte ein Pfannenwender und die Pfannen waren nicht gut.
Wir würden wieder dort bald buchen.

Endroit est pratique pour une famille avec enfants en bas âges, la piscine est bien aussi et propre. la maison est correcte avec le parking en dessous face à la porte. l'emplacement est à 15 min de Elbufeira et à 10 min de la plage en voiture. idéal pour découvrir la région d'algarve en voiture.

Rustig en keurige locatie.

Hartstikke leuke locatie. Zeer goed bijgehouden qua onderhoud van verblijf, tuin, bestrating, zwembad en sanitair bij zwembad. Restaurant eind oktober gesloten, begrijpelijk want erg rustig. Tip : breng onder de stoelen en tafels wat vaker anti kras doppen aan, dat maakt nu veel herrie en de muren zijn betrekkelijk dun. En stel een compleet rookverbod in, de rook van buren komt snel bij de andere woningen naar binnen omdat in Portugal de deuren bijna altijd open kunnen blijven. Gemakkelijk gesitueerd aan de zuidzijde van Pera. Je bent snel het dorp uit en bij het strand of de N125, de doorgaande weg in de Algarve.
