hotel is a bit remote from the towns, but sits right next to the cliffs and a beach. the trail starts right at the cliff. free parking onsite, but you need to drag your luggage’s over stone roads, or ask for help of staff to drive a kart.

resort is nicely laid out and breakfast is great.

one issue is the power was out for one night due to the coastal weather, and no staff was at the reception for the night. luckily internet and heating was still available.

This was a wonderful place to stay and our room was awesome! Very nice features. Close to the beach and the Seven Hanging Valley trail. Gorgeous. Breakfast was excellent. It was a remote location so less people and tourists which was great but also far from other amenities. For example, at least 15 minute drive to get to other restaurants. Food at Vila Alba was very expensive. Check-in staff were great.

My wife and I finished off a 12 day Portugal trip with a two night stay at Vila Alba. Very relaxing. She enjoyed a massage at the spa. I relaxed at the salt water, infinity pool. We ate all our meals, but for one local beach lunch, at the resort. All the meals were well prepared and the buffet breakfast had a lot of variety. Local see walk has great vistas.

This is a beautiful resort. I wish we had more time to spend there. The only downside was getting there because of the narrow roads and even though they tried hard to rectify it, the dinner I ordered was really bland, although the presentation was gorgeous.

Absolutely stunning location surrounded by nature and right on a lovely little beach. The on-site spa is free for gusts to use and was spotless, and three were three swimming pools to choose from. There was a wedding and quite a few families with young children during our stay but it never felt overcrowded and was very peaceful. We didn't have a car but it was very easy and cheap to order taxis to and from the hotel for day trips. The food at the restaurant was also really tasty! Overall a fabulous location, would highly recommend and would visit again.

This is not a 5 star hotel. The service is almost non existent and the facilities are tired. The breakfast is extremely limited to the extent that we brought our own fresh vegetables from the supermarket. The kids club has no working toilet and the supervision is so poor that my 4 year old managed to leave alone and found us in the restaurant. There is no pool service and in order to get fresh towels you have to change them at reception. Half the sun beds are broken and missing their cushions. Our shower gel ran out 3 days before our leaving and was never replaced - instead we had to call every evening for some small bottles. It is a real shame because it is a stunning piece of real estate with incredible views. But we will certainly not return and discourage anyone who is considering staying.

Very welcoming and in a lovely part of the Algarve that is somewhat protected from overdevelopment. The resort has a small beach, but is a modest walk or an easy drive to many other nearby beautiful beaches. Very relaxing!

While the property was nice and the staff very helpful, it is by no means a five star property. Nor are the ocean view rooms ocean view. This is hype and dishonest. This is a US 3 or 3.5 star hotel. Not bad at all but not a luxury property.

This property is nicely tucked away near the coast. Was only a 45 min drive from Old town. There isn’t much around the resort so I recommend stopping at a grocery store beforehand to grab some snacks and maybe some sandwiches. There is one restaurant on the property but it is extremely over priced and everything we ordered came out wrong. Items were missing from our orders and seemed like they used left overs from breakfast. The front desk staff was excellent and very accommodating, so I was shocked at the lack of oversight in their restaurant. The resort was right next to the cliffs with beautiful views and a small beach. They have a salt water pool and regular pool which I thought was a nice touch. Aside from the restaurant, I enjoyed our stay. Would stay here again.

The room were spacious and clean. The pool, restaurant and facilities in general were very good. The resort is quiet and welcoming.

Unfortunately, we had an issue with out air-con turning off after a couple of hours, during the night this resulted in us waking up and having to reset it at least a couple of times. After the first night, we spoke to reception who said that it would be looked at. Unfortunately, this was just ignored resulting in uncomfortable nights.

In general, the food on offer was of decent quality and a reasonable price. However, on one occasion we ordered a salad with prawns and received a quarter of an iceberg lettuce with 3 semi recently unfrozen (cooked) prawns. A complaint was made to the server who told us this is how it was - which was severely disappointing.

On the positive side, we attended a wedding here and it was excellent - the staff were extremely attentive and couldn't be anymore helpful. Generally of an excellent standard.

Breakfast coffee terrible, made with reconstituted powdered milk. Not the halmark of a health spa. But all very clean and comfortable.

They had a great design idea but poor execution or maintenance. Shower walls with mold and water build up inside, broken drain slab. All minor things, but it made this 5 star hotel feel like 4 stars. Food wasn't the greatest, but not bad. The only thing I was upset about was them ignoring the \"do not disturb\" sign, as they got in the room regardless to make the bed and touched our stuff that was on top of it. We were there for only 2 nights and didn't need room cleaning, so we kept the \"do not disturb\" sign on. Thankfully we weren't in the room when they came in, but I was still upset to find out they ignored the sign.

Remote, But Great Place

We loved the apartment, though it was a bit too jammed with furniture. Very comfortable. And the location, just a short walk to the dramatic limestone cliffs and a small, beautiful beach in the central Algarve was perfect. Less than perfect? Just getting to and from the hotel on the narrow, winding one lane roads is an adventure. And unless you never want to explore the area, you have to drive in and out since there is nothing nearby. Also, this is a very family friendly resort, which is fine, but it does result in a lot of infants, toddlers and young children running around and crying in the restaurant/breakfast room, so anything but peaceful.

Stayed for two nights at this property, our first stop in Portugal arriving from Spain. A very nice property! Small but cozy, it has everything needed for a great vacation…breakfast buffet, options for lunch and dinner, a small bar, two swimming pools plus the beach is less than a 5-minute walk away. Rooms have been recently updated, very nice decor and comfy beds!

Special shout out to all the staff, from the guys at the reception to the staff at the restaurant everyone was great!!

We arrived on a Friday afternoon and were staying for our son's wedding at the property on Monday. The road to the property is a bit of a nightmare in that it's single track and for a few hundred metres there is nowhere to pass as there are walls on both sides. Parking is good when you get there. Our reception on arrival was disinterested at best, though there was no-one else in reception a disembodied voice from an office called out would have to wait a few minutes. Unfortunately this was symptomatic of the staffing at Vila Alba - beyond slow and obviously a lot of very inexperienced waiting staff some of whom couldn't speak English (this is supposed to be a 5 star resort). Getting service for drinks around the pool and even at the restaurant seating area was next to impossible at times and we and others resorted to going to the bar inside in order to get service.
The food at the restaurant was nice enough without ever reaching a memorable level and pretty expensive for what it was. We ate out in Carveiro one night at the Chefs Kitchen which was excellent and attempted to do the same at Benagil but were unable to get an Uber taxi willing to come to the property and we had to cancel our reservation.
The two bedroomed apartment was dated with missing cobbles at the entrance and only had a bath with shower. inside. Various cobbles were missing around the resort and the pool also had quite a number gone AWOL.
I could go on but I've reached the limit.
Very disappointing.

We arrived at reception at the time we had specified. First words from a disembodied voice in an adjacent office were you’ll have to wait - this proved to be a potent of things to come. We waited at reception, at the bar and at the restaurant throughout our stay. The staff seemed harassed all the time and to be honest most had little training. As an example on the first night two waiters struggled with a jug of fish soup before depositing its contents all over the table. To get service during the day sitting in the restaurant was not sufficient to get service you had to actually go to the bar each and every time. The pool area could be stunning but the upkeep of the area is poor. Glass around the pool was not cleaned during the 4 days we stayed. Food was ok but not inspiring and generally overpriced. The room itself was dated with the fire extinguisher hanging off the wall ready to fall at any minute - I removed it and placed it on the filler where despite the room being cleaned every day it remained. An iron and a hairdryer worthy of the name were unavailable. I could go on but suffice to say attention to data was non existent and service was at best reluctant.

Room was modern and well finished. However 2 coffee pods on arrival and nothing after that. No bottled water which is unusual for a 5*. Breakfast poor and just 1 restaurant which is also poor. Id advice to rent a car. But overall I wouldn’t recommend this resort at all. There are many other 5* resorts in the Algrave that truly deserve their 5* rating.

Cons: we booked specifically because there was a heated pool and we were visiting in Dec. After arriving, they informed us the heated pool would only be open 3-7pm because the hotel wasn't very busy (pool has no lifeguard or attendants... they just refused to unlock it for us). The gym consisted of a few aerobic machines. Mattresses were terrible, could feel the springs. Lunch for a family of 4 cost 90euros and felt like a ripoff. 14e for a bad margherita pizza. 18e for a bowl of pasta. No idea how this is a 5 star hotel. If it wasn't so expensive we wouldnt have been so disappointed.

My husband and I stayed here during part of our honeymoon trip, and the Vila Alba Resort was truly a highlight of our trip. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate all of our needs - even providing an early check-in and late check-out! The property itself is absolutely stunning - with an infinity pool and outdoor restaurant overlooking the cliffy beaches. The rooms seemed newly updated and were super clean. This resort has everything you need yet offers a small, boutique feel - a bit away from the other touristy areas. We loved it!

Nice Resort - Few Minor Things to Watch

First of all, let me state that the surrounding area (cliffs, beach) is just gorgeous - you can't stop taking pictures. The resort is well maintained, although slightly dated, however it's being remodeled, which is both good and bad (IMHO). We booked a deluxe room, which looked quite nice on pictures and we were surprised it costed about the same as a 2-bdr unit, When we arrived and checked in, we were shocked to see how small the room was. Everything was sparkling clean, brand new and automated. The bathroom was on a smaller side as well, but manageable. The shower door, that opens outside, touches the floor and pushes away the mat in front, so you have to step on the slippery tile floor when exiting the shower. After spending a night, we asked to change the room and we were offered a 2 bedroom unit for no charge - many thanks to the resort administration. This unit was a bit dated, but we really did not care about this. We later heard (not sure if it's true, but seems to be) was that the resort splits 2-bdr units into 2 and we got a smaller part of the split. The breakfast was very nice, lunch and dinner had somewhat limited menu, but it was fine. One more thing - the road (2-way) to the resort is very narrow and curly, so be very careful driving and watch for the signs to yield to upcoming traffic. I am still giving this stay 4 stars because of the staff, grounds and location - we really enjoyed it - you can hike all the way to Benagil caves.

A secluded resort with an amazing beach and the hiking trails overlooking the cliffs. The 2 bedroom suite we booked was huge, with a full kitchen and a private terrace. Not too many people stayed there at the time of our trip, so it was very quiet. The restaurant at the property served good quality meals and the service was great.

The location an amazing stretch of coastline near the most famous and most beautiful beaches. The resort very spacious and pretty and the villas very nice. Staff are friendly and helpful. COVID has seen changes implemented for example cleaning of the villas only every 3 days, which is fine but I would suggest the villas need to be better equipped with cleaning materials . You are on a beach resort and inevitably things get dirty.

The property is very unique and a beautiful gem off the beaten path. It was quiet and peaceful with stunning views. The infinity pool and dining look out to the ocean. The property is a very short walk leading to beautiful vistas and small beaches. Breakfast, dining and spa were all fantastic. Rooms are a bit dated but were clean, spacious with a full kitchen. WiFi was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful. Road leading to hotel is a single lane but with 2 way traffic so pay attention to the signs and take it slow. We rented kayaks on the small beach right off the property and loved it! Very family and couple friendly. Would most definitely come back and stay here again.

The resort was beautiful and the room was very nice but a few things were in need of repair or updating (e.g. one of the drains on the bathroom sinks was broken). Also, the breakfast buffet was very good. But, the restaurant was very expensive for dinner and the menu was odd. We didn't enjoy our dinner at the resort. The menu should be more kid-friendly and down to earth.

We stayed for 3 days for a family wedding. Overall, the resort is very nice, smart and clean, however we would not class it as 5* luxury as stated on their website.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite, which sleeps 5 people. The suite was a good size and comfortable but a bit 'dated' and only had 1 bathroom and toilet for 5 people, which is not ideal. The kitchen was also very sparsely kitted out for anyone wanting to self cater.
The spa area and pools are very nice but we found it strange the gym didn't open until 10am (wanted to use before breakfast) and beach towels aren't available until then either.
Breakfasts and lunches were excellent though as was the wedding buffet.

The villa was great, except the silverware drawer knob was stripped and so there was a rusty big nail sticking out - not safe for two small kids. Also, the wait staff was super rude every chance they got. The hotel is also in the middle of nowhere - I would consider this a 4 star, not 5 star hotel. Breakfast was great, pool was freezing, the beach was hard to get to but beautiful.

very close to beaches and beautiful cliffs. On the 7 hanging valleys coastal trail, close to many good cafes (12-16 minutes away by car). Uber is avialble but limited, spa was nice and not to expensive, staeam room, fitness center, pool, and sauna included. Breakfast was great (not a lot of variety, but great!). Staff were nice, daily housekeeping, large rooms. Great for a family.

The resort is beautiful and the location next to the sea was spectacular.

Apartment was really nice, spacious and super clear, we felt right at home from the moment we walked in. Staff are really friendly and nothing seems to be too much hassle.
Restaurant is really good and breakfast was fantastic, lots to choose from, hot and cold and everything is super fresh.
Nearby you have wonderful sights over the beautiful coastline and many secluded beaches to explore.

Lovely hotel. Staff especially Wilson, Catalina in reception extremely helpful.
DVD collection could be improved.
Dinner A la Carte could be improved with a selection of different dishes. Portions very small and for the price the portions could be increased slightly.
Cleanliness good, toiletries supplied and topped up regularly.
Would need car if you wanted to visit surrounding areas/town.
Directions to hotel could be clearer as signs are now faded.
We would definitely visit again but a few slight changes would make the experience even better.

Overall a fantastic experience. Unfortunately arrived in the pouring rain and the suite we were given had a large pool of water from the front door to the kitchen. Evening reception staff were quite rude and condescending about this but finally gave us an alternative room. All other staff were really polite and helpful. After this small glitch we really enjoyed our stay.

We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was delicious. Had a couple of spa treatments - can definitely recommend the Stone Massage so relaxing! We also walked along the cliff top to Armacao de Pera (just over an hour) - taxied back which we thought would be expensive but was only 12 Euros!

We went for a relaxing 4 days and that's what we had.

Great quiet spot just 2 min walk from secluded beach and spectacular coastline. Enjoyed exploring the coast and discovering breath taking views around every corner. Good breakfast and welcoming staff. Wilson in reception was incredibly likeable and full of local knowledge. 5/5 experience!

very nice place but not ideal for everyone

Fantastic views, condition of rooms, resort, pool, spa etc excellent. It is however a long way from everything, you can't walk to town, or in fact walk anywhere from here other than the small beach, there are no local restaurants or bars, you have to eat and drink at the resort, and that's frankly quite expensive, ok ....not quite expensive....REALLY expensive. The drinks and food are significantly over priced for the region / country and they have tried with the menu to be 'fancy' 'fine' dining - and they don't really achieve anything like that standard I do not want to pay central London / Paris prices for pretty average food with fancy names, and weird food combinations that even reading the menu doesn't really feel that authentic. Another frustration with the resort is their 'regime' you have to eat their lunch / bar food from one menu up to 6pm and can only sit at certain tables to eat from that menu, then after 6pm you have to sit at another set of tables, and ONLY eat from the 'theoretically' fine dining menu, there is zero flexibility, and the 6pm onward menu is fussy, expensive, limited in choice and some people would struggle to pick something they liked. Anyway....I guess to summarise, the place is great, clean, modern, nice pool, spa etc....all perfect, but the food and eating 'regime' is a bit tiresome and food/drinks are super expensive and due to the location unless you want to hire a car or take a taxi, you are pretty much stuck with their 'regime'

Great resort. Incredible location with amazing views of the Algarve coast. Very accommodating staff. Access road to resort very narrow and one way. So be aware of contention (and driver negotiations) during busy times when people are getting to and out of popular Albandeira beach.

GREAT Hotel, terrible service

The location and rooms were spectacular and blew our expectations out of the water. However, service from the resort restaurant and overall resort were not so on par. We were turned away from dinner, and the waiters/hostess seemed to be irritated at us every time we went there to eat. Service was horrible. We always had to flag down waiters (whom were all just standing around for the most part and not really working) and order and was very unorganized. We did not even get utensils or napkins. There were more than enough waiters (6 to be exact) who were just standing around and ignoring us. Not sure if this is because we are American? Nevertheless, unacceptable. For a FIVE STAR hotel?? Come on now.. However, the location is actually the saving grace of this hotel. You are 2 minutes from the beach (sooo beautiful) and the resort itself is well kept. Highly recommend renting a car though, as Lagoa and caves are nearby, but not close enough to walk.

Great hotel, staff and dining 2 star experience

Overall, the location was wonderful and a great resort. However, don't plan on eating because the staff/waiters are AWFUL and service is hard to receive. We were turned away for dinner and staff were rude and incompetent. Will not be going back due to staff experience, mostly the waiters and food area. Reception staff were nice. Plan on waiting a very long time to eat at resort restaurant. Even though there were 5+ waiters, we were ignored until we had to wave down a staff member (most of whom were not busy nor doing anything). Not sure if this was because we were American or something but definitely not worth the wait or service

This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere but it's a very nice resort, much better than I had expected actually. It's very close to the beach, have access to a pool, spa and restaurant and the rooms are big enough for families are group of friends. The narrow road to and from the hotel is one way, so if you're driving just watch out for other drivers. Overall, it's a beautiful resort. Would stay here again.

Spacious and relaxing resort

A beautiful resort right next to some amazing Algave beaches, but it's very hard to leave the resort itself - the infinity pool and spa facilities are fantastic, plus the villas are extremely comfortable and spacious.

Staff at the resort really do above and beyond - they really did make our stay amazing.

We had a fantastic time here with our 3 children. The staff and facilities were excellent and the location superb. Literally a 3-5min walk from our room to the most beautiful beach (and a great pizza place - a must!) If you have really young kids just be wary of the cliffs there because there's some sheer drops with not much warning!

Amazing family holiday

A return trip to Suites Alba did not disappoint. A beautiful resort, with great service, large comfortable well appointed accommodations, amazing beach, plenty of pools/pool chairs, good food at the resort restaurant and amazing views. The resort is secluded which is wonderful but a 20 min drive to a town for shops and restaurants. The resort caters to families and makes it easy to have a relaxing fun vacation.

Brilliant hotel in an amazing setting. High standard of rooms, grounds and facilities. A deluxe country retreat close to wonderful coastal scenery and quiet beaches. Small and efficient with friendly and attentive staff. In addition to the fitness room and swimming we made good use of the free bike hire - under 1 hour moderate cycling to Carvoeira or to other smaller beaches even nearer. Overall - fantastic value particularly in the off season.

Stunning Resort but too remote

A bit of a Jeckyl and Hyde experience.
Stunning room, excellent staff and facilities. However booked as self catering with breakfast included. No shop on site or within 6 kilometers to purchase any supplies. Excellent choice for breakfast from cereals, through to fruit, pastries, cooked etc. Evening time however, limited to expensive al a carte menu which was not really to our individual liking. Odd though that we could order other food as room service, but couldn't eat it in the restaurant. A little short sighted in my opinion as when we did eat in the restaurant, there were more empty seats than occupied. I believe, they are missing a trick.
Beautiful coastline to walk around, but felt that the overall location was a little remote. A car would be necessary if staying a little longer (we only booked a Monday to ta Friday)

Very nice holiday in a lovely location.

Suites Alba is a very good hotel.

Location is quite remote meaning walking into a town is difficult but if you want a secluded coastal view this is ideal. Lovely beaches although predictably busy in August!

Food at the hotel was good, my only criticism is the bar food service in the evening is limited and you can't sit in the main seating area to eat food, it's reserved for formal diners.

Suites Alba is a smaller hotel/resort so don't expect huge pools and endless gardens. The hotel is well maintained and proportionate for 50 rooms.

My only slight criticism is the level of detail lacking in terms of pool side service that I think you should expect at a 5* hotel. By way of example, towels/glasses etc left on sunbeds and tables when people went back to their rooms weren't cleared away, nobody seems to have ownership of the area and getting service was difficult. We asked for a smoothie at the bar and were told we needed to go elsewhere to order one.

It's a small criticism but just took the shine off what overall was a very good experience - but these things make a 5* resort.

Pure luxury in the most beautiful setting

This was my first trip to Suites Alba and I would love to go again. It is located on a cliff top over looking some of the most beaches in the Algarve, the resort only has 50 villas so it is far from crowded and it the epitome of luxury. The staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble and they literally cater to your every whim, you can order food anytime of day, waiter service from your sun lounger if you like, catered picnics on your request, food served to your apartment....the list goes on. The main pool is an infinity pool with a breath taking view, the beach is only a few hundred metres away and there is a lovely cliff top walk to take in the scenery. The apartments are lovely, spacious and have all mod cons incl electric shutters. The food was fantastic, the free breakfast was buffet style and had everything you could possibly want, and more. The nearby beach has a small restaurant which serves pizza until 8.30pm, with beautiful views over the beach. Aside from that, you would need a car/taxi to get to anywhere else incl shops etc, we just headed out in a Taxi a couple of evenings, quite happy to enjoy the tranquility and indulgence of Suites Alba the rest of the time.
