This is a legitimate 2-star hotel. Whoever qualified it for a 4-star hotel made a joke. To start with, there is no refrigerator in the room. Not even a tiny one. The bedding is another joke. A pillow is about 3 cm (a little over an inch) thick, with nothing but lumps inside. I had to ask for 2 more pillows to get it to be of any neck support. I also had to ask for additional 2 blankets as the one provided was too thin. I had to use one of the blankets to cover the pillow stack so that I don’t feel the lumps. In the bathroom: no body lotion provided. No conditioner for after shampoo use. The single container in the shower says: Hand, hair, and body wash. Same container by the sink. No shower cap or vanity kit.

The overall look of the room—shabby.

Avoid by all means.

This hotel is in the center of Bern about a 5 minute walk to the train station. We flew into Zurich and took a train to Bern and walked to the hotel. Very easy and convenient. Bern is a very walkable city and also has excellent public transportation so I do not recommend renting a car. Parking is difficult and it is hard to figure out which parking spaces are legal at all times or if you need a parking permit which is region specific. The hotel is nice and offers a great breakfast (especially the beautiful breads). Fresh coffee is available 24 hours a day. In the afternoons they had a self serve bar with a wide variety of wines, beers, cocktail makings and nonalcoholic beverages and with bar snacks which looked nice although we didn't make use of their offerings.

Very nice little room which is all I needed just for me. The bed was very comfortable. It was right next to the federal palace and an easy walk to the cathedral and clock tower. Perfect for what I wanted to see and do while I was in Bern. Happy to return here if I go back!

Clean room. Staffs are helpful and nice. Very convenient spot. I have got the roof top room and the window at the roof are just very very nice to get natural light from the sky. The toilet are massive with two sinks which is quite rare as in most hotel. Little downside is that the bed is a bit squeaky even with just body rotation but overall it is very good and I will recommend it.

We loved the location, the hotel itself was wonderful and very clean and the staff was friendly, helpful, welcoming and professional. It would have been perfect but the beds…twins put in king frame were HORRIBLE! 2/3 of the bed on both sides sloped outward, obviously from folks sitting on the sides of the beds that we were in a hole and could not sleep on1/3 of the bed. When we slept on our side our knees hit the bed frame and then surpassed it as the mattress was so compressed. My wife ended up with hip and back pain and slept just a few hours each night.

We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The hotel is extremely well located right in the center of Bern close to the train station so transportation was easy. We had excellent service from Vera at the front desk. She was extremely friendly and went out of her way to tell us everything we needed to know right down to how to swim in the river safely. There are many special touches to the hotel lobby, including a great gathering space and even a free welcome drink. Loved our stay.

In a quiet alley in the centre of town

We were welcomed and checked in warmly by reception. We had also pre-registered online by the welcome email from Hotel Baren. Their staff went the extra mile to provide extra latex pillow and fixed the safe locking error when requested. We booked the Comfort room which faces the back of the surrounding buildings but we figured the view is likely to be due to the different sizes of the room. The hotel escape floor plan showed the rooms were different sizes on the same floor.

Hotel was an easy walk from the Bern Station. Many historic sites are within 10 to 15 minutes walk from the hotel. The Saturday market was next to the hotel. A very pleasant stay and would stay again.

Great hotel located in a central area in Bern. About a 5 minute walk to the train station. Rooms are small but doable, especially for a night or two. Coffee and tea are free in the lobby. You can also purchase a glass of wine or make any drink available for an extra fee. Right next to an amazing coffee shop with fantastic muffins. Also 7 minutes away from a cool cocktail bar called Department 66. Would stay again!

Bern Trip

Very convenient to all spots in Bern, including the train station and Parliament (where we saw a very nice seasonal light show). The staff was friendly and helpful. However, the beds were very comfortable, who thought putting two twins together makes a queen. I could swear I reserved the single queen bed. The beds had wooden rails around them and the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable. We also did not have A/C or any fan options. Though it was cold outside this caused us to open a window until during the morning a cat was making noise and we were concerned it would come inside.

I would recommend this hotel for it convivence to spots in Bern, friendly staff and cleanliness, but be aware of these limitations.

This is a beautiful, historic hotel in the centre of Bern, but if you're planning on doing any kind of sleeping, go elsewhere. They even provide basic (and hopeless) ear plugs next to the bed.

I paid 150 CHF for a night here, and checked out within 4 hours. Even with my Sony Noise Cancelling headphones, I had a headache after being in the room for 30 minutes.

Go elsewhere. Find a hotel just a few roads parallel to this one... it'll make all the difference.

Lovely hotel receptionists though, very helpful and friendly.

Hotel is rather basic, but very clean and conveniently located. Windows facing the street- not the main one, but still street noise could be noticed. Staff is great, and very helpful. We booked the cheapest room- it is small, other rooms are larger and better. Free happy hour drink was a pleasant surprise.

Wonderful Bern

Convenient and a short walk from Bern train station. The Saturday we were check in, there was a Saturday market with many stalls. Free coffee and beverage counter on ground floor. From 3pm, guests were treated to a free first drink. Reception were very helpful and chatty. Room was basic and clean.

The only reason I took away one star was you can hear the people above you walking in their room, and the room smelled musty (probably due to carpet).

Location - It is about 7 mins walking from Bern Train station and the hotel sits in the old city park which is just 5 mins walking to the central part. Even though it only takes 20 mins walking to bear park!

Staff - Amazing friendly and super helpful

Love the free coffee & tea provided in the room and lobby area

Room - It is well maintained with bathtub (rare!) Seems no air-condition provided but it is totally fine for me

Very nice hotel. Only issue is they have no space for baggage storage so if you want to stay afternoon to tour city you have to leave bags in lobby unsecured. Also, we arrived prior to 3:00 pm. Our Room was ready, however, property charged us $30 cfh for early check in. Not cool!

Best staff

The staff were the best! So friendly and helpful. They have a welcome drink and give you a bar of Swiss chocolate as you leave. Really lovely extras that make it nice. This area was right by the main train station making it easy to travel and find the hotel. As a solo traveler, I felt safe and enjoyed the neighborhood. Always busy and on the weekend a festival happening.

This is the worst 4-star hotel I've experienced in a long time. I chose the place for review rating but feels cheated.

The bed was uncomfortable, and the receptionist tried to charge us for city tax twice, both at check-in and check-out. The coffee machine was broken, and the hand soap dispenser was empty when we arrived. The hotel does offer luggage storage on check-out, but it was next to the reception desk in the open and felt very insecure, forcing me to carry all my valuables for the entire day. Overall, everything about this place felt chaotic.

The receptionist was the most friendly person I've ever met at a hotel. After check-in, without prompting, she gave us a city map and circled and wrote names of places to eat and visit. She was so friendly and helpful. The only time I spent in the hotel was to sleep. So i can't speak in depth about facilies and services.
