The room was spacious with plenty of room.
The room furnishings are from the 1980s, with an old and visibly dirty carpet that didn't smell good.

The noisy air conditioning, which couldn't be left on at night, made the nights very hot with poor air quality.

Maybe I was unlucky with my room, I can't say how it is in the other rooms.

One of the best hotels I have stayed at in Italy! We loved Genova!

The hotel was in a perfect location. The train station was a 5 minute walk to Genova Brignole which connected us to so many places including La Spezia, Rome, Pisa, Cinque Terre, etc.

The bus station was also a 5 minute walk and we took buses 31 and 13 to the port and to Nervi as was Volabus to the airport (10 Euro, be on time though. It stops for 1 minute).

Lots of dining options within walking distance (downtown area).

The rooms were terrifc, just like the pictures showed...clean, neat and modern!

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Monica suggested using the Volabus to the airport and another staff member took my request for an early morning breakfast bag since I was going to miss breakfast (I had paid for the breakfast pkg) and lo and behold at 4:45 am, there was a bag with juice, croissants, apple and spreads including plastic cutlery. I am so grateful. Thank you so much!

We needed a place to stay due to an unforeseen circumstance. They wouldn’t let us check in even with a valid ID. They made us go to the police station at 10:30pm to validate our ids to no avail. We had to find different accommodation.

Great overall but even bottled water costs money. Most of the 4 star hotels in Europe would give at least two free bottles of water. In fact star hotel in Milan provides free water

A corner room with the bathroom in triangular shape
In the bathroom was no heating and it was ice cold on the floor and everywhere, there was also no extractor fan for bad smells and the only way to get some warmth in the bathroom was by leaving the bathroom door open all the time.
All b all an unpleasant experience and a single room which was sold for a double with a paid for upgrade

More bilingual staff required, esp English speaking. Staff should assist by giving clear directions into the city area. We lost out on seeing this beautiful city as we went the wrong direction and it was too late to fathom out where we were. Handing the map over to you without précis directions is of no use as everything is written in Italian.

My worst experience ever

Air conditioning didn’t work, room was terrible hot. I went down to the lobby to complain in the middle of the night, staff didn’t apologize for the inconvenience or offer another room. They just sent a guy to my room 2 am to open the window. Worst experience ever. On top of that the entire cooling system made a terrible noise every 2 minutes making impossible to rest there.

Hotel looked a little dated in the lobby. Room was very nice although it was €25 per night parking. So we upgraded as that was included. But the room ended up costing over €200 for one night which is a lot.

Having paid for a room with the 3 twin bed option, we had to pay €35 upgrade to get the 3 beds!
Then, as we were given our room key cards, they mentioned that they were having some plumbing problems… didn’t specify. I asked if this would be sorted out today… “yes, we expect so”.
The next morning, the water was freezing… we had to shower in that!
It’s a 4* hotel… surely, there should be some sort of refund?
Otherwise, the room was great!

A nice hotel with good amenities. Clean and everything in good working order throughout the hotel.
Room on 9th floor with city view, food at hotel was good and reception staff prompt and polite. I did find it odd that on the two occasions I went to the bar no one was around, despite waiting a few minutes no one showed. So I opted for drinks outside the hotel.
But would stay again and would recommend.

The bedroom was super heated, 27C at night in spite of the heating having been turned off. The staff offered to open the window (special key needed) but the noise from the traffic and the constant ambulances was deafening. The safe didn’t work and a member of staff had to repair it. They didn’t tell us that the biscuits left in the room weren’t complimentary and I have been left with unexplained pending charges on my credit card totalling far more than what Expedia quoted, even allowed for additional charges. Breakfast also poor with very salty food. Altogether an unpleasant experience which I will not repeat.

The hotel is So nice, the staff were really helpful and professional. They couldn’t help us enough. The area is pretty bad, but that’s mainly because there’s a park right across the street that’s full of homeless people, and a lot of drug addicts. Not the hotels fault. Also it’s surrounded by very busy roads. Still, we extended our stay and would happily stay here again

This hotel was amazing and made our stay in Genoa very welcoming. The hotel was super clean, beautiful and the room had a beautiful view of the city. The staff were very welcoming at both the check in desk and bar, and housekeeping was very friendly and efficient. The area was very convenient to access tourist attractions and was very walkable to major areas. It was easy to get a taxi too. We would definitely stay here again upon our return to Genoa.

This is a great hotel. Nice and helpful staff. Clean, modern, air conditioned and quiet rooms. It is conveniently located near one of the train stations. However, there aren’t that many restaurants to choose from in the direct vicinity of the Hotel. The hotel restaurant however is very good. As of this writing (beginning of July 2023) the metro is under construction. This was a bummer for me as I was planning to use it. I ended up taking taxis instead.

At first the VIP room upgrade was not given. I decided to enquire as I didn't feel the room was up to standard. The reception said it was at the hotel discretion but reluctantly found me a better room. The deluxe room was lovely - so very pleased I asked. As I didn't have a vehicle I didn't need the parking voucher - i think this should have been changed to a breakfast, mini bar or bar voucher.

Very disappointed that air conditioning was not working.
The room temperature at 10.10pm was 27.6 degrees.
We had to open the window to gradually cool down the room.
In addition the pillow and the materass were too soft.

After alerting the staff at 630 in the morning that the shower basin did not drain and overflowed they did not respond. Not maintenance showed up before I left that day and I was unable to shower. We paid for a small suite and would expect the facilities to work or some kind of compensation for not being able to use a shower. The hotel offered us nothing.

Our 3-night stay in Genova

We chose this hotel as it was close to Brignole main station and Metro station and close by where the Volabus bus starts for the airport. Check in went fine but oh! - a room key with a tasselled ball - no key card then.
OK - not too much of a problem except that on one occasion neither my wife nor myself could actually manage to unlock our room door and so we had to get help. The next day neither myself nor my wife could actually lock the door so again we had to get help!
The room itself was wonderful and spacious. The bathroom was a little more problematic - the shampoo dispenser didn't work but we managed to fix that - we left it to the hotel service people to fix the mechanism for the pop-up plug in the sink which seemed to be held together with tape.
I have to say the maintenance people were very quick to attend and always came with a smile.
Breakfast was included in our room rate but was a bit disappointing. The choice of cereals was limited - I'm not a fan of corn flakes or rice krispies. The muesli was fine but I expected more options. The scrambled eggs and bacon was not very nice - by the third morning I couldn't bring myself to face it again. The fruit cocktail and yoghurt were OK-ish and the toast & jam were fine.
One thing became apparent - the hotel was a good walk from the main tourist areas. Fortunately the metro filled the gap when our energy levels sagged.
We really enjoyed our stay in Genoa. If we were to go there again we might choose another hotel.

When we are checking out the receptionist was going to charge us for extra person as the hotel receptionist saying the hotel.com only book for 3 people not for 4! I was a bit shock as this is the 12 hotel that we stayed on this trip and it’s always been booked for 4 people how this one saying I only paid for 3 people! I started to get suspicious! I have a print out of my confirmation and receipt with me and I did show it to her! I said to her! Here’s my confirmation and receipt I paid for 4 people with breakfast? how come you keep saying I only paid for 3 persons? She talk to her colleague in Italian and came back to me and said sorry its the Hotels.com fault! They only book for 3 people! I don't know who to believe my advice is make sure you have the copy of your receipt and confirmation! overall I will rate this hotel 3 stars! It’s too far to be 4 stars

Great location close to transportation and easy walk to sites. The bed was a bit hard for me, but if you like firm mattress. Our room was a corner room so it wasn't a square or rectangular shaped room resulting in a portion of our room had an angle, and the door next to us was close to our door so you can hear the doors slam, it's not a soundproof room. The lobby was nice and modern and the breakfast options wasn't bad.

Rooms were oversold on pictures on your website. Those newly refurbished were already occuied so we had rooms from the 1980s.
Had a problem with one reservation due to similar family name of another guest - shouldn't happen in the digital age.

Nice Hotel in a Good Location

Everybody in reception were very pleasant except Alberto who was abrupt and almost threw the piece of paper with the password for Wi-Fi on it. The hotel is just across the road from the bus station where the Volabus from the airport. WE arrived at the hotel ten minutes before the bridge collapsed. I think we were on it or a bridge very close to it, not sure.

OK but you could probably do better for the money

The room was good, although not large. Location was fine although we did a lot of walking to get pretty much anywhere. It was close to a station and Metro.

Service was a bit hit and miss. Breakfast on the Sunday the staff were a bit surly and the food was a bit less varied. Also the bar, which was very nice, was frequently not manned in the evening (9pm / 10pm ish) reception were slow in calling anyone to serve waiting customers.

We wanted a hotel close to the Genoa Brignole railway station to travel on to Rapallo and this was ideal. We would stay in a Starhotels again if an opportunity arose. The only downside at the moment are the works on the road outside but these fortunately didn’t affect us and there was no problem with noise in the room.

We spent 11 nights in Starhotels President and it is a functional business hotel. We chose it for location and that is excellent - right beside Brignole station and close to main shopping, and tourist areas. Hotel was clean and beds were comfortable, though the AC leaked in one room, and my children had to move room. Breakfast is a buffet affair and unless included, is not worth it. Coffee is from a machine using syrup, breads are not fresh except for mini croissants which go immediately and are not refreshed. Cold food is okay, and there is plenty. However, a short walk to get real coffee, and beautiful pastries is worth the effort.

The bar/restaurant are not appealing - both have you pretty much sitting in the lobby, and drinks are expensive by local standards. The outdoor seating is like sitting in a featureless yard.
The staff were functional, and did what was needed - but did not appear welcoming. The room keys are old fashioned on heavy brass fobs, so you leave them at reception and collect on return, so you end up waiting if there are checkin/out happening.
Wifi worked, but you had to sign in every day, and sometimes more. Overall, great location, lovely city - functional hotel.

Good location, disappointing breakfast

There was a mixture of friendly and not so friendly staff. Our room was not ready at 2pm check-in time and we were given, I think another room (I felt the bed was bigger than the one I saw in the booking photo). The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was spacious. But it came with a bathroom door that does not close...(I don't mean, 'not locking', seriously not closing). We only found out after unpacked everything and came back to the hotel close to the midnight so we decided to ignore. I am sure that they would have changed the room for us if we had requested. The bathtub did not drain water well so you would be standing in a pool. Wifi was weak so I gave up and used my own data. Breakfast was disappointing. I don't mind having a basic breakfast but it lacked freshness and care. It was not a 4 star hotel standard. Location was good being near to the station and the bed was comfortable, I don't see myself coming back especially some of the staff that I got to speak were not very friendly.
