Extremely Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Price

Our experience at this hotel was very unpleasant, and unfortunately, we cannot recommend it. For the price we paid, we expected at least a basic level of comfort and hospitality, but instead we encountered multiple issues:

Hygiene and Comfort: The bed sheets had bugs, which made it impossible to feel comfortable or safe. The drinking cups provided were not glass but cheap plastic, giving the impression of a low-standard hostel rather than a hotel.

Bathroom Facilities: The shower head was blocked and did not function properly.

Environment: Around the hotel there was an overwhelming smell of excrement, most likely coming from the gutters – an awful experience just walking in and out.

Service and Hospitality: There was no friendly service, no English spoken anywhere (and not even an effort to try), and at times staff were even sarcastic towards us.

Food: Breakfast was very poor – limited hot plates, no cheese slices, no intercontinental food options.

Facilities: The facade and reception area were not welcoming for tourists. There was no parking facility, and we were not allowed to use the charging station. The windows in the room could not be opened fully, meaning no fresh air. The room itself was cramped, filled with extra unused beds, leaving no space to sit or relax.

Points+ : Hôtel bien situé sur l'avenue du Prado, très calme, chambre spacieuse bien équipée, petit déjeuner impeccable.
Points - : pare douche qui fuit, joint de pare douche sale, linge de toilette taché, une mouche qui nous a suivies tout le temps passé dans la chambre ou dans la salle de bain.

Well located.
Comfortable bed.
Air conditioning works well.

A few minor drawbacks:
The room faced the avenue, so it was too noisy to open the windows. However, with the windows closed, the noise was barely noticeable.
In the bathroom, the bathtub faucet was missing a cover but worked fine, and the shower screen could use some fixing.

Above all, the staff were truly kind and very helpful.

A hotel I would definitely recommend.

L'hôtel était très bien en lui même et notre chambre sur l'arrière très calme.
On s'est quand même faites manger par les moustiques dès qu'on ouvrait la porte mais ce n'est la faute de personne 🙂
La jeune fille de la réception du matin qui m'a fait mes cafés au lait était adorable et celle de l'après-midi qui m'a prêté un fer à repasser 😉était très gentille aussi

While the staff was very friendly, and the hotel was clean and inviting, property had a few issues. Our AC didn’t work properly (it was cooler in the hallways and lobby) and the shower didn’t drain well. The cleaning staff was attentive, but would forget things like a bathroom rug and there were no washcloths.

Un buen hotel de 3 estrellas (algo lejos de los 4 que pretende). La ubicación no esta nada mal, en una avenida principal de la ciudad con muchos restaurantes, algunos abiertos hasta tarde. La plantilla del hotel siempre ha sido serviable y agradable, la ultima noche el señor del restaurante nos ha abierto una botella de vino y prestado dos copas para llevar a la habitación. El desayuno es completo y rico pero mal organizado, un dia no nos encontraba en la lista, no quitan los platos utilizados de las mesas, luego en diferentes momentos faltaba platos, cucharas, et cetera y tardaba mucho tiempo para reponerlos. También es extraño que los fines de semana se puede desayunar hasta las 11 pero entre semana solo las 9:00, que me parece desagradablemente temprano si uno esta de vacaciones. La habitación es espaciosa, como el baño, pero no hay cafetera expreso solo una calentadora de agua y tazas de carton (extraño en un hotel que se promueve como 4 estrellas). La cama es cómoda pero las almohadas son de las mas baratas de espuma deformado, me levante con dolor de cabeza cada mañana y me ha continuado una semana después de volver a casa. En breve, una estancia regular.

We had a lovely few days staying here as a couple. The hotel staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and spoke very good English when required too. The room was spacious, clean and well equipped, and felt quiet despite being next to a busy street.
Good location also for exploring Marseille with good metro/bus connections.

J'ai eu la mauvaise surprise de constater que la douche ne fonctionnait pas (pas d'eau) vers minuit lorsque j'ai voulu prendre une douche rapide avant de me coucher. Après échange avec la réception, ils ont proposé de me changer de chambre. Je me suis donc retrouvé à trimballer mes affaires à minuit 1/2 dans l'hôtel pour aller dans une chambre de catégorie inférieure car il n'y avait plus de chambre de catégorie équivalente à celle que j'avais.
Je trouve que ce n'est pas au niveau de ce que l'on peut attendre d'un Novotel. Ce genre de mésaventure peut arriver mais on est alors en droit d'attendre un geste commercial : soit d'aller dans une chambre de catégorie supérieure, soit d'avoir une réduction sur le prix de la chambre ou encore une remise pour un prochain séjour ! J'ai dû rester à Marseille la nuit suivante, bloqué par les grèves. Dans ce contexte, j''ai préféré changer d'hôtel que de rester au Novotel !

This property was AMAZING!! The only complaint I have is that in the winter months the rooms are too warm and made the nights uncomfortable. I was able to open the windows for the nice breeze but I prefer AC at night just for safety... Very friendly staff, great breakfast, very clean room.

Pour un hôtel \"4 étoiles\" les prestations sont limite
Accueil ni désagréable, ni agréable..
Aucun produit d'accueil dans la salle de bain, pour cause de Covid, dixit la réception..donc on suppose pour limiter les contacts avec des objets possiblement contaminés..mais on a eu droit à un rouleau de papier toilette déjà utilisé à moitié..alors Covid ou économies ?
Pas de stylo ou crayon dans la chambre pour remplir la commande pour le petit déjeuner, certainement pour cause de Covid encore..
Commande de room service pour le repas du soir et il a fallu descendre à la réception pour régler immédiatement la commande, il n'était pas possible de régler le lendemain matin au moment du check-out...!!! Covid encore ?
Bref..un 2 étoiles est tout aussi bien si ce n'est mieux ...

Sejour de deux nuits. Hôtel bien situé (ligne du tram et metro à 4 min). Accueil rapide sans aucune présentation ni explication sur les horaires du restaurant/buffet et son emplacement ( on a qu'a regardé les etiquettes dans l'ascenseur). j'étais dessus par la qualité du lit bébé (trop servi + pas propre + pas confort manque du matelas). Sinon au niveau des étoiles je trouve que la qualité du service est presque la même pour un hotel Campanile 3 étoiles.

salle de restaurant réservé pour une reunion du RN...du coup diner avec service approximatif au bar du rdc...( tolérance pour le personnel qui fait des aller retours en cuisine a l etage via les marches)...
chambre 314, odeurs de poussieres apres avoir allumé la clim, pas de clim et du bruit dans la chambre derrière...appel reception a deux reprises pour changement de chambre...tjrs pas de clim dans la nouvelle ch 321...bref une expérience désagréable pour un novotel...

They Advertise Airconditioning, but did not turn it on, even though it was 80 Degrees in My Room. This made it Hard to Sleep, as I was constantly Sweating, & opening the Window on a Busy City Street also does NOT Allow for Sleep! Good breakfast selection, friendly staff, clean rooms and a nice bar/reception area. My main concern was a lack of consideration of environmental issues - broken air conditioners were left on (it took me two days to realise it wasn't actually doing anything, just burning electricity), single use cups rather than crockery in the room, plastic tea bags, etc. These are very easily solved and in today's world a large hotel chain should be doing better.

We booked the wrong hotel. Pleased to find a Novotel so close to where we had an early morning appointment, we didn't look any further at the website until too late to change. We entered Reception at 10pm. It was like walking into a kindergarten at playtime, with the addition of doting parents. The receptionist yawned as she handed us a key and shrugged towards the lift. The room was as expected, standard Novotel, small, but this hotel was in the middle of the city. The restaurant advertised itself as open until 10.30pm, so we went straight there. One person on duty, so scruffy I couldn't believe he was a maitre d', or a waiter. He did his best to persuade us that they were so busy and so short-staffed we'd have too long a wait for our food, then seated us between two tables of families with small children - the only two of three in the entire restaurant that were occupied. He refused to move us to another table (\"the other tables are laid for breakfast\" - which they patently were not, not even by the time we left), so we upped and moved our table, which incurred his wrath, but he didn't carry out his threats. The menu was tiny and uncomplicated, mostly salad, which was fine with us, and it took about 3 minutes to arrive. We enjoyed the meal, good fresh tuna, good salad, deleted 42€ for a bottle of wine from the bill - we had ordered a small glass each, replaced our table and went off to a good night's sleep. Thank the Lord the room was well insulated against noise.

Location is great close to buses and metro.

The hotel is the best in Saint Remy. It may be a little difficult to find because of misleading GPS and road signs. The hotel should offer valet parking. Hotel parking is a good 10-15 min walk. Not good if the weather is poor. The hotel is in the old city and close to all attractions.

Marseille Novotel, Avenue du Prado.

A nice hotel with friendly staff. I walked into the centre on the first night. It took a good 30 mins so after that I took a bus, of which there are many. An excellent buffet breakfast which had just about anything you might want. Sampled the buffet dinner on 3 occasions and that was good too. I stayed in one of the executive rooms which was very roomy. Air conditioning was not the coldest. I stayed in the Novotel in Greenwich three weeks ago and the coldest setting there was refreshingly icy. Also, the Novotel in Greenwich provided china mugs and glass tumblers but in Marseille there were just paper cups and two plastic tumblers in the bathroom. I reported to reception as soon as I arrived that the safe was not working. The receptionist said she would check but it still didn't work when I returned in the evening.I mentioned it the next day and the receptionist said an engineer was coming and he would look at it. But it still wasn't working and no note in my room to say why. I gave up reporting it but did mention it on checking out when the receptionist asked if everything was ok with my stay. I received a shrug but no words of apology.
The bedroom did become a bit smelly at times due to the drains. I kept the plug in the wash hand basin and this seemed to help.

Fantastic hotel! At first we were a little put off by the area and complete chaos on the street but once we were in and got our parking spot it was pure bliss. There is a really fun market outside (was there both days we were there anyway) and the walk to town is definitely do-able. We did opt one of the days to take the subway which is right in front of the hotel and got downtown in a flash. Breakfast was nice and lots of selection. Highly recommend this hotel!

This was the worst hotel i have probably stayed at. Our room smelled like sewage and the air conditioner didn't work. We told the staff daily and they kept saying oh we can't do anything about it. This hotel is the worst and so is the staff. Don't get fooled by other reviews as I did you will really regret it.

Breakfast buffet and room service is very limited and can get boring if you stay longer than a couple of days! At least in my room there was a water logging in the was basin and bath tub.

It was fantastic especially for our teenagers. The staff in the reception were very helpful and positive with great English (thankfully). The cleaners did a fantastic job and made us feel very spoilt. The breakfast was so impressive and a real highlight. We went via Eurostar and paid only slightly more than a caravan holiday in Devon!!!! Highly, highly recommended.

We had a problem with the AC so they told me at 10PM no one is here and the hotel is full. They recommanded me to open the windows in a crowded city. They also told that the next day when I check they will leave a message to the manager to see what he can do. Of course at checkout, no message and no manager.
Luckelly the AC worked in the middle of the night.
The hotel is clean, staf is nice and to be honest i will still consider another visit.
I travel a lot, i've seen a lot worse and a lot better for the same price range.

I've stayed here before and went back because I like the location. It's a good hotel and rooms and common areas are always kept clean and neat, and the customers service is courteous and efficient. I will go back.

False advertising leads to big disapointment

I booked the this hotel and asked for the Superior Room, which on the website looked fantastic. However, when e we got to the hotel, we were given a much different room. It was not fantastic. When I talked to the front desk and told them that this was not the room I booked and show them the picture of what I thought I was getting, they said \"Oh so sorry, I wish they would not show that room online we only have one of those rooms and its booked.\" The hotel was not bad, but incredibly cheap looking. All of the furniture and doors in the room are press board with fake wood look painted over the top. It was not at all what I expected. We aslo had breakfast included in our price and confirmed this upon checking with the hotel, and upon checking out I had to fork over another 100 for the breakfast that we were told were included in our room price. I will never stay there again and you may put a note on your website that the Superior Room picture is not the room you will get. They also have parking, but you also pay through the nose for that too. I left that place very unhappy.

a very bad smell was in our room since we get into it, the staff couldn't do anything but spraying freshener, the hotel location and interior is very good, but unfortunately our room has a bad smell whilst my daughters room was good.

Had no trouble finding the street it's in, but as it sits in a tree lined busy road it took us a while to find somewhere to stop and find it. Hotel car park is underneath the building. You have to press a button at the top of the steep entry road, and the flashing Amber light at the bottom tells you that the shutter door is opening. Cost €18 a day but cheap local parking is quite difficult to find, front desk staff are exceptionally good, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is plentiful, with lots of choice. The staff there were kept very busy, and worked hard. The bar is expensive which isn't unusual, but €4.50 for a coke is a bit over the top, and the bar staff were slow and far less customer friendly than then the other hotel staff. Having said that, we didn't stay there to spend a lot of time in the bar! Overall a nice hotel, reasonable cost, clean and we would stay again.

A Business rather than a Holiday Hotel

The Hotel was well away from both the beach and the old port. This meant a bus journey to the beach or a tram ride to the old port. A good thing about the hotel was that during the week(Monday to Friday) there was a market outside the hotel which was very good.

Nice hotel close to Old Port (city center)

One of the better Novotels' we have stayed in (especially in France)... decent-sized rooms, good temperature control, clean linen clubbed with very professional house-keeping made our stay quite relaxing and enjoyable... the hotel is in close proximity to the metro station (Perrier station - less than a minute's walk) and it takes hardly 7-8 minutes to reach the city center (Old Port) by changing a couple of trains (Perrier station to Castellane via train M2, takes about 30 seconds and Castellane to Old Port via train M1, about 2-3 minutes). From the airport, it takes about 45 minutes to reach the hotel (take bus from airport to St. Charles station and from there to Perrier station via M2 train). Overall, Marseille is a well connected city and you can reach at any corner using the public transport system (trains, trams and buses)... you can also cover a large part of the city on foot :)
To sum-up, this is probably one of the best hotel (both budget-wise and by standards) to stay in Marseille and enjoy the magic the city has to offer :)

hotel staff were extremely helpful. I wanted to take a side trip to St Tropez , they took the time to look up on the internet the best way to get there.
on leaving the hotel they ordered a taxi for me and even gave free coffee while I was waiting,
highly recommend this hotel.
