I recently stayed at Modern Sultan Hotel in Istanbul, and it was a wonderful experience overall. The breakfast was excellent, with many options to choose from every morning, a great way to start the day.

The location is absolutely unbeatable. It’s incredibly walkable to all the major attractions, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, the ferry terminals, everything is close by. Even with a 4-year-old, we were able to walk comfortably to almost all the places we wanted to visit. The convenience of the location is truly one of the hotel’s biggest strengths.

One thing to note is that the hotel does not have an elevator, so you’ll need to use the stairs. We stayed on the 5th floor, so it was a bit tiring at times, but honestly not a deal breaker, the stay and location made up for it.

There are also multiple dine-in options nearby, making meals easy and enjoyable.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel. Great breakfast, amazing walkable location, and a comfortable stay right in the heart of Istanbul.

I really appreciate the management and this hotel is charming with breakfast included it is a really great value. It's walking distance to all the special sites like the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Basilica Cistern. I was really taken care of by the management and my room was adorable. This is an older hotel so no lift but it's right next to everything! Walking distance to blue Mosque, topkapi palace, you can see the Hagia Sophia from your windows. The T1 tram stop at gulhane is 1 minute walk as is gulhane park. Easy access to public transit you can be anywhere in the city in around an hour and a half (yes even the airports)

Friendly and helpful staff who are knowledgeable of Istanbul. They gave loads of tips and advice regarding best mode of travel. I was shocked at how close the main tourist attractions are. The tram is only 2 mins away and there are many local convenient stores and eateries available on foot. Breakfast was ok but we had no time to enjoy it as there's so much to do. Towels were changed daily, hot water always available. We were on the top floor with a view of the Hagia Sophia which was amazing, there's no lift so be aware. Fridge in the room was handy to store water bottles. The call to prayer can be heard clearly from the room, the night was quiet, some music can be heard from next door but all quiet after midnight. My stay in Istanbul was magical and the hotel were part of that.

This is a small hotel right next to the Hagia Sophia you can actually see it from your window. So it's super convenient and walkable to all the major sites: blue mosque, Hagia Sophia, topkapi palace, Bsilica cisterns, grand Bazaar you name it. Staff is helpful and goes out if their way to care for you. They helped set me up with a sim card for my older phone.

The Modern Sultan Hotel is in a great central spot for a great price. It is boutique, has a lot of character yet has the amenities you need. A large shower, good working AC, and very walkable. I see the Aya Sofia outside our window. The staff are exceptionally friendly, and the free breakfast is exactly enough to start the day. 24 hour coffee and tea is also available at your service, and they have a nice front porch to sit and enjoy it! I would recommend if you are looking for something different than the typical hotel; a unique experience for sure.

The rooms are large, and ornate, but lacking in maintenance. The air conditioning did not work, fittings were loose, or did not work. The staff were lazy, on their phones all the time. Breakfast poor, a cling flim covered plate of cheese, tomato, pink meat of some kind, but plenty of bread.

One of the family rooms we had booked was being renovated, so they gave us an additional room for 2 nights for free. It is a very small place but very cozy and comfortable. The hotel stay was excellent overall. All of the staff were more than accommodating and always asking if there was anything else I needed. I ask the front desk attendant, Atta Khan, if they had bananas available for breakfast because I like to have one each day. He was apologetic for not having any but said he would get some. On the following day he handed me a banana and the kitchen attendant, Leila, made sure to give me one and made sure to give me the tea I wanted as soon as I sat down for breakfast each day. Front desk attendant, Idris, made sure to take care of the arrangements for my ride to the airport on-time and carried my luggage down the stairs fir me as did attendant Sashen on the way up. The only negative about the accommodations is that the only place to sit in my small room was on the bed. However, that left me with a very positive alternative which was to sit on the very cozy front porch where I got to visit a little with other guests. I will miss my short visits with Atta and the other staff as they were all so pleasant to deal with.

The people that works at this hotel are friendly and hospitable. We felt welcome from the minute we arrived. The location was convenient and within 7-15 minutes walk from the tourist sites in Sultanahmet. Tram 1 is within 2-3 minutes walk from the hotel. Also, the ferry to Kadakoy is within 15 minutes walk. Lots of dining options around (eat somewhere away from the main road (Alemdar Cd) for better pricing). The dining at the hotel next door can be noisy at night so bring some ear plugs.

Arrived at the hotel and they had lost our reservation. No rooms were available there in the area near The Hagia Sophia. Our tour guide saved us by getting the hotel ?owner to book another 1/2 hr away. Paid for a taxi, but took over 2 hrs to relocate in a rather seedy area of Istanbul. Obviously don’t stay at this horribly untrustworthy hotel.

Location, location, location... Can't beat it. Walk to Hagia Sofia, Sultanahmet Mosque, Topkapi, Cistern, Grand Bazaar, shopping restaurant, you name it.... You just need to go out and walk few steps.
With this you don't need a car, for anything. Walk to tram and go anywhere far as well.

What makes it even better? Amazing staff and service. So polite, always taking care of your needs. We had an excellent room, with unmatched view of Hagia Sofia, but it was not suitable for my big family. They moves us so smoothly, all (a lot of) our luggage, as we focused on exploring area.
Always asking us for things we may need. Always offering complimentary drinks, always smiling.

We stayed at Modern Sultan Hotel for a week in July 2023 and loved it. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Turkish Breakfast in morning is amazing. Hotel is extremely close to most attractions in Sultanahmet (10 minutes walk) and public transportation is also close by.
Only down is that the hotel does not have elevators but the staff was very helpful in getting our luggage to our room. Our room was on the top floor with a great view of the Hagia Sophia mosque.
We would definitely come back to this hotel on our next trip to Istanbul.

The room was very good. The mattresses were comfortable, not too soft (not too firm, too). The pillows were comfortable as well. Our room had its own AC and we could control it. The AC worked perfectly and quietly. For breakfast, they had different kinds of pastry, fruits, vegetables, olives, eggs, hams, and cheeses. (I don’t mean this is the full list. There might be something else that I didn’t notice or don’t remember). There were instant coffee and tea bags, black and chamomile. The owner and staff were very friendly and reliable. The communication was easy. Before we arrived, they responded to my emails quickly and thoroughly. We appreciated it that they helped us organize transportation to the airport for a reasonable price. I would stay here again.

We liked the Modern Sultan. It has an excellent location, right off the tram street, yet far enough away to be quiet. The manager is a friendly man and very helpful. The room is small, but adequate. A small refrigerator and a safe. There is no elevator and we were on the third floor, so be aware of that. It was not a problem for us. They had a very good breakfast, and one could sit on the front porch as well as the dining room For a mid range hotel The Modern Sultan was nothing fancy, but certainly a pleasant stay.

The hotel is well situated, a little off to the side of the main street but not too hard to find.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful and courteous all through my stay.
Breakfast was very good; it was obvious that an effort was made to vary the items as best they could.
Overall it can be seen that thought is put into making this hotel a comfortable and pleasant place to stay.
The only problem I had was the stairs, quite difficult to climb each day. So if you have challenges with stairs you might not be able to stay here. Check first if you can get a room on the first floor.

I proper enjoyed my stay in modern sultan Hotel. It was my first time in Istanbul and I was travelling alone. The staff there didn't leave me to feel lonely. Every evening we were spending time outside as friends, with them playing music, smoking altogether shisha. It was just something magnificent. I will never forget what Istanbul was for me. The location of the hotel is good as u get restaurants, mosques next to you. And also tramvays station are really close. Visiting Istanbul is a must. Visiting this hotel will make it cheaper and more affordable

The service here is really excellent. They welcome you and make you feel at home much more so than comparable hotels in Istanbul. I was offered coffee and tea and hospitality at all hours of the day. The location is great. I had a view of Hagia Sophia (slightly obstructed) from my room. The hotel has a homey feel. I look forward to coming back.

Mostly everything was excellent, the top cover of the bedding (there is only this and a sheet on the bed) did not seem clean. I don't know if they are laundered as often as the sheets. Also pillows are not proper pillows but more like very hard over stuffed cushions that are also made from upholstery fabric, if you can sleep you will probably have neck ache in the morning. Breakfast was poor, boiled eggs were a few days old, even though there were 5 more people to come in a dining room that held 20 people, the hot food was empty and not replaced which was disappointing, only one hot drink is seved. Fire escapes seem strange as they point you to a room rather than an exit. Location is great.

This place is a gem!! Beautiful rooms, small and efficient. Refrigerator in room. Fantastic breakfast included. Great place out front to sit and sip tea. The staff are so super nice. I came down after the breakfast hours and Maria offered to cook something for me. Just the nicest people. And you are a short walk (a really short walk) to Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Gulhane Park, and the Tramway which gives you access to everywhere in the city. Oh, and I should mention the view of Hagia Sophia RIGHT OUT OF MY WINDOW!!!!! It is gorgeous at night.

I'll never stay anywhere else.

Nice Hotel with in a Quiet Yet Convenient Location

Extremely friendly and helpful staff at a very convenient location close to many major attractions. Rooms are a bit small but adequate; breakfast is basic and to be expected (some eggs, bread, fruit and Turkish vegetables, etc.). A good number of reasonably priced restaurants. Tram (they call Metro) station is just a few minutes away. Need to keep in mind that there are no lifts and you may need to climb quite a few stairs esp. if you are assigned a room on the 4th or 5th floor.

Excellent!!!

One of our best stay in Turkey. Very nice people and service, spacious cleen room, good breakfast, well located, 5 minutes to Topkapi and Ste Sophie, suround by restaurants and shops. easy to reach by tramway, good internet connexion....everything was perfect!!!!
