What a great little hotel with wonderful staff. If your looking at a traditional hotel in the heart of the old town then don’t look any further. The staff can’t do enough for you and the hotel is great for a short stay in Lucca. We plan on a return and would defo stay here again.

Getting to the hotel is tricky with luggage. The streets are very narrow and leaving your car overnight in a parking lot several blocks away is a little scary.
The entire area of Lucca is very old, so it is no surprise that the hotel is older. However the rooms were air conditioned which we were very thankful for.

The staff was amazing and the cook to order breakfast was a pleasant surprise.

Gem in Lucca

Beautiful hotel in a great location inside the walls of Lucca. We unloaded our car in front of the hotel with the gracious help of the staff, parking was close by and comfortable to get to. The rooms were clean, comfortable and we had a wonderful stay. Breakfast was delicious, scrambled eggs & bacon, kids had yummy pancakes and the service was amazing. We will return!

Palazzo Alexander has an excellent location for easy access to Lucca`s sights, and provides a comfortable, nicely elegant setting to its customers. The staff is welcoming, helpful and very friendly. Our room had plenty of light and space. We will be pleased to return.

Great hotel and staff in a wonderful location!

Fantastic staff.
Lovely breakfast available at good hours.
The air-con unit in our room was quite loud but incredible!
Great shower.
Really comfortable bed and pillows.
Located just inside the walls of Lucca, but away from the busy areas so really quiet.
Short walk away is a drinking fountain where we topped up our water bottles each day.

Worth noting that you can hear everything those in the rooms around (next to/above) are doing (showering, hairdryer, going to the toilet....) so if you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs!

After we checked in during the early evening, we rested for a while before going out for dinner. When we returned the front door was locked and the lights at reception were off. A member of staff then came over and let us in. Turns out we were meant to leave our key at reception when going out but we had no idea! So they thought everyone was in bed as no missing keys... Never had to do this before (but then again can't remember the last time I had an actual room key and not card) and we weren't told when we checked in or when we went out (although the person on reception when we went out was busy so perhaps they would have mentioned it if they saw us leave). No curfew, they just lock the front door and turn off the lights if everyone is in bed but there is a night porter around if you need help/want to go out. So make sure you leave your key at reception!

Perhaps one of the best decisions my wife and I made on our trip was staying at Palazzo Alexander. A family owned and operated hotel whose staff was friendly, accommodating, helpful, and kind. We wish we had booked a longer stay, and it is located in a very charming part of the old town of Lucca, very walkable to many restaurants, shopping, and attractions. Will for sure stay here again.

A wonderful visit

we loved the breakfast. And the beds were soft and comfy. It was an old building but very charming. The staff was very helpful. The bathroom has some deferred maintenance. The showerhead does not stay in place. And the sink stopper doesn’t work. but overall, we had a very pleasant day and we got to see Eric Clapton who was in town.

Superb Hotel

Wonderful family run hotel which offers the perfect location for visiting all the sites of Lucca. Greeted by the owner with a lovely warm welcome and a beautiful room. Great hotel inside the city walls

We stayed 3 nights. Excellent hotel inside the city walls. The reception and check in went very smoothly. We had a rental car and the parking garage worked out fine. The front desk and breakfast staff were most helpful. Live is a beautiful city, very walkable. We would definitely return and stay here again. Thank you for making our stay so pleasing!

This is a beautiful boutique style hotel with charm that resonates with old world luxury. The staff exude that same old world genuineness as they work to make sure every question is answered and all your needs are attended to. Our room was on the small side with no terrace but the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast each morning in the salon was a treat! Full service with beautiful table settings and attentive staff, delicious food and coffee! We would absolutely recommend a stay here!

I have been to this magnificent hotel before and the service is so friendly. One of the highlights was the magnificent breakfast; never rushed and always fresh as fresh can be. A hidden gem of a hotel

The hotel is simply delightful. The staff are amazing: they really go the extra mile to be helpful. It’s in a very quiet area and the hotel itself is very peaceful with no loud oikish types in sight. Classical music is played very quietly in reception and at breakfast. The latter, served by the excellent Roberto, is personally served and tailored to one’s exact preferences. Rooms are furnished in the traditional Italian palazzo style and are spotless. Mario, the owner, gladly books evening meals in recommended restaurants; his judgment is faultless. Reception staff (Paolo) are unfailingly pleasant & helpful.

Palazzo Alexander is a wonderful small hotel. Beautifully decorated in an elegant, classic style. Our room had beautiful inlaid wood furniture. The bathroom was spacious with a very good shower. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and included made to order eggs with bacon. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located near key sights. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel.

Beautiful, centrally situated hotel with bundles of charm and character and exceptionally friendly and very helpful staff. The interior decor of the hotel could itself be a tourist attraction such is its ornate beauty and traditional features, so typical of the region. We had the junior suite \"Tosca\" which was lovely in its design, furnishings and lovely balcony overlooking the rooftops of Lucca. This hotel is highly recommended.

Perfection in Lucca

Upon arrival Gabriel paid complete attention to getting our car parked and helping putting our luggage in our room. His dad was equally friendly the next day, and Roberto was jovial and engaging as well as very helpful. Our room was large, clean and very comfortable. Recommendations for restaurants, bicycle rentals, and general sightseeing were spot on. A joy!

Nicest hotel ever!

I can't say enough good things about the Palazzo Alexander hotel and its hard-working owner, Mario!

The entire staff is so friendly every time you walk through the door or come downstairs to ask a question. They made us (and especially my two-year-old daughter) feel more welcome than we have ever felt at any hotel. Mario would take the time to talk with us at breakfast and make sure we were well taken care of and knew how to best spend our time in and around Lucca.

The location too is fantastic. On a quiet street, but just two blocks from so many restaurants and the beautiful meeting place that is the Piazza San Michele in Foro. Also, a very easy walk to a cheap all-day parking lot right outside the walls (the hotel offered parking, but I was afraid of the cameras enforcing the limited traffic zone so I played it safe and left the car outside).

The room was beautiful and spacious, and even in 100F/37C weather, the air conditioning held up and kept it comfortable. Stay at the Palazzo Alexander Hotel and you'll have a wonderful home base in Lucca!

this hotel is lovely. It is run by a warm and hospitable father and son duo. It feels like you are being hosted in their own home. The hotel is located about a 7-8 minute walk from the main sights which is nice because you don't hear any noise from the streets. Breakfast is wonderful, with sweetbreads as well as more American style preferences.
