Absolutely horrible. I trusted Expedia and they failed at all accounts on sending myself and my girlfriend to this place. My girlfriend literally cried all night because of this place. First night of our vacation and we got into a huge fight because I booked this place. Bars on the window similar to prison. Hallway stall toilet and hallway stall showers. Cheap hard bed with little bedding. A cheap fan to use in your room. Cheap furniture. The whole thing is beyond low class. Nobody helps you with your bags. It’s literally a place that’s kind of like a hostel. But for adults and whoever else. Costed us more than $100 to get to and from the airport. They don’t help with taxi service. What a terrible nightmare. The entire experience was horrendous from arrival to getting a cab back to the airport. I just would of done it myself and not gone through Expedia.

Totally Adequate Accomodation

I arrived late and though I couldn’t get a hold of the hotel by phone, I eventually got through via email and they had security stay up late to check me in. The room was fine and a fan was helpful. The bathroom was across the hall but also - not a huge deal. If you’re looking for budget travel this is a good choice. I was able to walk to the park, downtown and the ferry to Tobago.

We had some sleep but would definitely not return

Hotel is very run down but reasonably clean given its condition. We had emailed asking for a taxi to be sent to collect us from ferry but we had no reply & no taxi! We had deliberately booked a twin room as that suits us best but we were given a very small double room with tiny double bed. When I explained that we had booked a twin they said they did not have one free. At least there were lots of eating places & a shop close by.

Homey mosquitoville

home style feel, great location. Got the cheaper room with no AC, just a fan. Not a problem for me, but the mosquitos were everywhere, first night I literally killed 15 mosquitos. Next night was about 11, thus had to sleep with long sleeve and socks. That part of the stay was uncomfortable, I deal with all other insects with no problem for the most part, but mosquitos is one of the few that I absolutely dislike. Never killed so many insects in my life.

Excellent location, only 30 sec. from Ariapita Avenue where one will find restaurants and bars that offer Chinese to American food and anything in between. Short walk to Independent Square and the Immaculate Conception Cathedral

Great hospitality

This hotel is a short walk from restaurants and bars. The desk staff were extremely helpful and very hospitable. I stayed for only two days for a birthday get a way. I enjoyed my trip and the service I received. Thank you to everyone I encountered.

That's not a hotel

Lots of mosquitoes, worst bathroom ever. I just think my home is way better a hotel than MelbourneInn Hotel. In as much as Expedia need to do business, i think MelbourneInn hotel must not be a hotel to be associated with. Expedia is a great company with better reputation

Great Location, Decent room for short stay

Location of Melbourne is excellent as it is just off the central hub of nightlife in Port of Spain (Ariapita Avenue). Easily inside walking distance to restaurants, street food, fast food, Clubs, pharmacies and a supermarket.

The room was quite clean with the exception of the Air condition vent. Daily cleaning ensured the room was well maintained. It is a fairly simple room containing a bed, small refrigerator, pair of nightstands, table, sink, television mounted on the wall and a wardrobe. Though it should be noted that the layout is a bit awkward when it comes to the washroom as one has to pass through the shower to get to the toilet. From arrival to departure all staff was very courteous and helpful.

However after leaving the room we realized an item was left behind. i re-visited the next day to ask management however the gentleman said that he did not get any items therefore it must have been tossed out. I asked him if he could be so kind to check the room as no other person had yet used it but he refused. I thought this could have been handled a lot better.

Overpriced motel not hotel!

This hotel was very disappointing. It was rather expensive and facilities were poor. There was no hot water for the first night and I was told it was heated by solar power so let the water run which I did for over 2 hours.Not my idea of a hotel experience thumbs down!

Short but sweet! Basic room for persons just looking for a bed to sleep in while visiting Trinidad. Located just a few short steps from Ariapita Avenue so easy access to food places and the night life.

The location was good, close to lots of bars and restaurants of Ariapita ave. Our overall experience was pretty negative though. The reason we booked this hhotel initially was because of the price and it seemed acceptable. We were not expecting anything fancy. First off, we had to wait an hour to check in as there was nobody at the front desk from 3-4pm. We were shown to our room which was supposed to have 2 double beds and a mini fridge and had one double bed and no fridge. just a tiny room with A/C and a television.

We were told when we checked in that breakfast was from 8:30 to 10:30. When we went downstairs for breakfast at 10am the next morning, we were told \"you're late\" by the man working there. We asked when breakfast was done and were told it was at 10am. We decided to leave and have breakfast elsewhere. We did have breakfast there 2 other mornings and the service was fine. Seems like the staff do not understand the concept of customer service here, one woman who served us breakfast was quite pleasant but others made me feel like I was inconveniencing them.

We decided to check out a couple of days early and we given quite the hassle and only a partial refund even though we gave them 2 days notice. All in all, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It's not terrible, but if you like to feel at home when you travel, this is not the place.

Also, this location is very loud, earplugs recommended.

Very well located.

Staff was rude and didn't warn us about the parking rules. You have to park your car 9 meters from every corner otherwise they tow your car, it's what happened to us. When we ask about parking our car in the street, the staff never told us about this rule!
They should at least mention this rule at the entrance or in their guest book.
Plus the toilet was leaking and they never fixed it as they told us.

It is very noisy, the staff at night is watching tv very loudly, they don;t care about their guests.

I stayed there 3 days from thursday 30/1 to sunday 2/2.. When i arrived The next door neighbour was renovation his house or at least i thought, saturday morning at 0715 he started demolizing his house with Big machinery, so it was impossible to sleep.. Sunday morning g he started again, but this time at 0600, talked to the guard there who talked to the neighbour, they stopped for 20 min but Then it was destruction time again. So if you're gonna stay here make sure that the next door neighbour is done with demolizing/constructing, because he dont give a sh#t about Your sleep

i had a really bad experience, people it's not nice' i evenm didnt get a glass of water, and really expensive for what it is' i suggest not to send people there, it's far from the airport and it's not in port of spain

Average, and would recommend.

We can't really say much about the hotel experience because just after arrival we decided to stay with a friend. However the room was clean and up to our standards, tv and a/c worked and the lady on the front deck was very friendly and helpful. I don't really know much about the area or safety, as we didn't end up staying in the area.

Great location for walking Port-of-Spain

Friendly accommodating staff, reasonable prices (for this area), and particularly the central location in Port-of-Spain make the Melbourne Inn a great value. And being an easy 20 minute walk along populated roads (even at 5AM) from the City Gates bus terminal gives you the option to take the $0.65 bus to/from the airport instead of a $30 taxi. (The bus ticket booth takes TTD only and is located in the arcade at the rotunda part of the airport terminal.) The Melbourne Inn is also a 20 minute walk from Queens Park Savannah, and 15 minute walks from the updated waterfront park and Brian Lara Promenade. And there's at least one grocery store within 3 blocks. I enjoyed my stay at the Melbourne Inn.

Good transit hotel in central Port of Spain

Located in central Port of Spain.

I stayed two separate nights in transit on my way to and from Tobago - using this as a place to stay coming from and going to the international airport.

The hotel is basic - but as expected given the price.
The room was clean and tidy, it had AC and sheets, pillows and towels were clean and fresh.

So the Melbourne Inn served my needs nicely.

Great place for a night out of town.

I had a nice time. The rooms were ok...people were nice. Its not the best but I was please. I like the apartment better than the regular rooms. Very safe. There is nothing free... Every food, water. You have to pay. If you don't have a cell phone you can rent one. There is a charge for washing your clothes. I had fun....

Stay here to \"soak up some local color\".

Very good value--we just needed a place to sleep while between flights from Trinidad to Tobago. Staff was helpful--called a taxi when we were ready to leave. Had breakfast in their restaurant--also a good value, about $5pp. Hotel is typical of a house in the islands--lots of tile, plain but clean and confortable. (was 1/3 the price of a chain hotels nearby)

The room I reserved had already been reserved by someone else, so I got the room in the back. The price was good, the AC was OK, and it was clean. Other than that it was very basic. The location near Ariapita Avenue was good. If your expectations are low you won't be disappointed.

Staff is nice, but the place needs a makeover

The people at this hotel were generally very friendly and helpful, and that's the main positive thing about this place. Plus perhaps the location: close to downtown and with sufficient shops and eateries nearby. And the price was pretty ok for Port of Spain. Furthermore, this place really needs a proper refubishment. The walls are paper thin, the bed sheets had stains, the floor and ceiling were falling apart (especially in the bathroom with a lot of broken tiles: sharp edges!) and there was mould in the bathroom. The place really has potential, though, it just needs proper refurbishing. All in all, as of today, I think I'd try to find another place next time.
