Beautiful location, restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced. Lots of stairs on the property. Had a toy room and playground that our toddler loved. Easy to take the bus to Riomaggiore (10 min ride, 2.50 Euro per person)

This place was amazing and i would totally recommend it as your base in the cinque terre area. The views were unbelievable, and it was heaven to lay on the hammocks and watch the sunset each night. The accommodation itself was perfect and there was a kitchen which was really handy so we stocked up on lots of Italian food before arriving and had some lovely meals outside admiring the sea. The restaurant on site was also really good too. Parking was free and right outside the property, so we could just leave our car and take the bus to the cinque terre towns. The bus stops right outside the property and is super easy. We didnt want to leave, and cant wait to return one day.

Excellent place. My only issue is it’s in the middle of nowhere and the bus is every two hours, and you need to figure it out. So not great after a day of hiking. Air con worked well and restaurant served good meals. Staff not the most friendly but it’s Italy

We chose to stay here because of the location and views and the price was affordable for our budget. Yes, there are a lot of stairs. But, wow, the views are spectacular! From the bar, from the dining terrace, from our room and from our personal garden where we were able to relax in the late afternoon and early evening warmth.
Staff were friendly, the welcome was warm, the dogs made it feel like a home from home, and the vibe was relaxed. Our room, Erica, was a triple and was clean, spacious and comfortable.
We ate at the hotel restaurant one night and next door the second night which was more casual and perfect for us.
We appreciated the relaxed vibe and having proper outside space.
The one thing to be mindful of is how to get there from Riomaggiore by bus, but time it right (we didn’t), or by taxi - number on the wall as you exit train station. Alternatively, take a taxi from La Spezia (40 euros flat fare). It’s easy to get the bus to/from Riomaggiore to explore all of the villages and access hiking trails. Included in your Cinqueterre day pass or 1,50 buying on the app or 2,50 euros paying on the bus.

Do come here with reasonable expectations for good food, a relaxed vibe, and affordable access to the area.
Do not come here if you are allergic to steps!

Loved this location! The units are a bit dated if that’s something that matters to you but I truly thought it was the cutest place to stay in the Cinque Terre area with an INCREDIBLE view of the ocean. The bus system picks and drops you right off from there as well. We will definitely be staying here again!

Amazing!

Yes there are a lot of steps. Yes it’s a little “rustic”. The place is imperfect, BUT....the views and beauty of this hotel makes it a 10. You will not stay in a more beautiful setting-ever! It’s quiet, with lots of quaint little seating areas outside to take it all in. It’s an adventure, but totally worth it!

Be ready for exercise. All rooms/cabins are many steps down the hillside, but provide welcoming comforts, such as kitchens, private gardens & visiting gattis. Thankfully, there is a small rail service that will carry your luggage back to the top upon departure. Awesome views, great location, if you are visiting Cinque Terre. This facility is rural, but has a resto/bar, a next door bar, and a couple of other places to eat within a few hundred meters.....just check on operating hours, as they can vary. Certainly would stay here again.

This unique cliffside resort has great units that have been updated from a village that supported vineyard workers. We relaxed on the outdoor terraces and outside spaces--each unit has a garden or patio. After hiking, we would have snacks and wine while enjoying the mediterranean views, and relax on the many hammocks and lounge chairs, and also an outdoor shower to cool off and refresh. The rooms were cozy and comfortable with full bath, and ours had a nice kitchenette. In the morning we enjoyed the buffet breakfasts on the outdoor patio dining area. In the evening after a busy day touring Cinque Terre, the outdoor dining room served a delicious variety of dinner entrees and desserts, plus great wine choices. This property is highly recommended! We plan to stay there again next year -- for a week.

Great glamping experience with amazing views

If you are visiting cinque terre, i would suggest staying here instead of staying in one of the 5 Terres. Its really close to Riomaggiore and has breathtaking views, amazing amenities and jaw dropping services. Our stay here was very relaxing.

The only turn-off was that we didnt get the room we were expecting and the walk was more than 250 steps. So if you’re having any problems with walking or climbing stairs, please reconsider.

Otherwise, if you wanna experience nature and experience the beautiful Cinque Terre and Italian Reveira, this is the place to stay !!

Best decision ever to choose this hotel for our stay !!!

An excellent property with a beautiful view of the sea from your balcony. But the owner seems not too interested in providing basic services like room cleaning, lunch at restaurant etc, if you are carrying heavy luggage be very careful as you would need to tread downhill carrying them yourselves! While checking out there is an arrangement of loading the luggage on a small pulley which will bring your luggage & leave it on the side of the road. An excellent property but sad that it's not run the way it should have been.

Gorgeous property! Please note that there are many stairs you need to walk up/down to get to the apartments. The view is worth it! We loved staying in Riomaggiore and Il Borgo di Campi. The hotel is located outside of the main town area which is great because you its cozy and quiet. Great place to watch the sunset. The restaurant on the property is delicious! Highly recommend!

This hotel has a spectacular setting high up on the hill overlooking the sea, a couple of miles from Riomaggiore. The rooms consist of self-catering apartments that are spacious and well equipped. There is an excellent on-site restaurant and also an adjacent snack bar that seems to be quite separate from the hotel that also serves excellent pasta and seafood dishes. There are some downsides. Be prepared for a lot of climbing up and down stairs though there is a baggage train so you don't have to haul your heavy bags up (only down). There are also some idiosyncrasies such as the checkin office only being open for a few hours each day. If you're arriving without a car, be prepared to adapt your schedule to the very irregular bus service or else spend a lot of money on taxis. If we had fully understood the geography of the Cinque Terre we would have stayed near one of the railway stations since there is a frequent and well used train service that connects the five villages and neighboring towns such as La Spezia. However if we had done that, we would have missed out on some very enjoyable evenings observing the scenery.

Terrible experience with this hotel. In fact, it is not a hotel, but a very uncomfortable camp situated just on a dusty road, outside any living area. You cannot take any substantial luggage into the room, because the camp is located on a very steep slope, steps of which only very young people can clime. Beds are cheap and very uncomfortable. Rooms are sleazy, bad smelling. No cleaning during your stay. The staff is not helpful. The most amazing thing is that the price inappropriate for such a low level of service. Do not be fulled by the beautiful pictures! It is the worst hotel I ever stayed in my multiple travels to Italy.

Thanks for the beautiful views, gardens and experience! The trade off of not being in one of the Cinque Terre towns is worth while with the fair price and awesome view! One small issue with the Wifi at times slow. but the cottages set into the hills with their own gardens, nice air, and freindly staff made our stay special. One should mention the \"hike\" to the rooms is not for the weak of heart as there is over 100 steps. But it is this path that offers the most amazing views, the ocean at sunset, gardens, grapes vines, flowers, trellised covered paths.... don't stay here if you prefer no view windowless rooms in towns with loud music till late and lots of crowds.

This hotel is nowhere near Riomaggiore. It should not state that it is in Cinque Terre. The amount of steps that you have to take to go back and forth from your hotel makes it not accessible to older or disabled people, this must be noted in the description of the hotel. The bathrooms are very small, the shower was 18” x 18”. The restaurant that they have is a trap, they charged 10 euros for a piece of lasagna that was no more the 3 inches.
For all of this I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, I think might been better.

Great views, a bit hard to get to/from main city

We stayed here for part of our honeymoon. We loved the views. The cottages were nice but a little noisy (we were on the bottom of a two story unit and the couple upstairs had loud children). The rooms were also very damp and musty smelling and one morning there was no hot water (could have been due to sharing with upstairs). And so many stairs! We wished we had packed lighter having to carry our luggage down so far, and were very grateful for the luggage lift we were allowed to use on the way back up. Dinner was great here. Hard to get to with very limited bus time runs and sometimes the bus just drove by and we had to get a taxi... so plan accordingly.

This hotel had pleasing personnel. Our room did not have any air condition but did have fans provided. The cleanliness was just ok as the windows were left open with no screen and there were some insects that made there way in. The view was nice and there were quite a few areas to sit down and enjoy the ocean view.

Very rustic. Large number of steps 200 rough steps and not easy to find which rout to take specially at night. We checked out after 1 night. We were booked for 3. They charged us for 2. Couldn't get help with luggage. Rooms were very small. We were in Italy for 3 weeks and this was by far the worst hhotel

A Perfect Gateway in Italy

Stay at Borgo Di Campii was good, location wise it is an excellent place. A perfect hideout from hectic urban lifestyle. Hotel is located at top of mountain and rooms are located at base. We had to walk down 4 floors down to our room. Room is like cottage overseeing Mediterranean sea. Room had Kitchen, Hygienic Bathroom, small garden overseeing Mediterranean sea.

Service wise restaurant is Ok for vegetarian folks. If you are having luggage then it is an issue as hotel has only twice the day porter arrangement to bring up your luggage from your room. Porter services can be improvised to support family tourist.

Veg Options can be introduced in restaurants. Pasta with Pesto sauce is a Non Veg item,as Pesto sauce contains Parmesan cheese which has rennet (more about rennet https://goo.gl/xfeQFJ)

Worth the climb!

After reading several reviews that complained about the steep climbs, I thought we were prepared for the steps. We were upgraded and given the front casa (more steps).

I won’t say the walk up was easy for a 68 year old couple, but the view was the reward. We also came to the Cinque Terre for the views and to experience vertical living. The II Borgo di Campi is all that and more. I am so glad we stayed there, away from the crowds and surrounded by beautiful landscaping and nature.

Quiet & Peaceful, great place to get off the grid

Our stay at Il Borgo di Campi was wonderful. Check-in was a breeze, the staff was very friendly, making the ambiance feel like a family. Marco was particularly wonderful. Food was good but the same menu each day got a bit much. Beds were not extremely comfortable, but the noise level was very low. Very peaceful place, highly recommended.

Killer Views of Mediterranean Sunsets

We were a little skeptical after reading some of the other reviews but have to say that we enjoyed our stay. The key is to have a clear expectation and read the full description posted as well as reviews. The staff was nice and helpful. There are quite a few steps to climb but it's do-able. The rooms are rustic but functional and have decent space. The views of the ocean and the property are amazing and make it all worth it. There is a bus (was always on time) that takes you to nearby Riomaggiore where you can hop on the train or begin your hike on the trails. It's not as convenient as staying in one of the 5 towns but I liked that when you come back in the evening it was quite and peaceful. Good value for the price compared to nearby towns also. If you are driving I highly recommend staying here as they have free parking. Parking in the towns is very difficult or impossible especially if you have a van or large vehicle.

Lots of stairs, like any place in Cinque Terre (unless staying in the middle of the small, busy town centres.). I believe if you ask you can arrange for your bags to be brought up by a lift track when checking out (you climb down stairs to access your room from reception). Views are phenomenal. Best restaurant we've been to on our trip so far. The food was impeccable. Wifi was spotty, particularly in our rooms. Friendly, helpful staff. Would definitely stay again.

The location and convenience was ideal. The views of the rooms was fantastic. Great family run business. The food was very authentic and enjoyed every meal; service was great. Hotel is far from everything and very difficult to find and get to. It has an amazing view, but not enough to overcome all of the issues. We paid for room with a different credit card then what we reserved the room with. After more than two weeks they still do not have the charges canceled on the first card! Air conditioner did not work, the blow dryer blew up, no maid service if staying more than one day, you take out your own garbage or you get charged. Stay in one of the five villages instead. Too many hassles here trying to time the bus and trains to actually get to and from this hotel.

Not close to town. Accessible by bus or taxi only. 200 steps down to our room and the same up. No elevators. Staff not very accommodating. Dinner was expensive and not very good. If you r young and/or not wanting to leave the hotel much then the views may compensate for the other negatives. The bar next door was Great! Friendly!

We had a great time. Our room Shangi 'La was beautiful. It had a fantastic view of the sea, outdoor patio with a table and chairs and umbrella. There were 2 double beds in their own areas so each bed space had some privacy. Our room did have steep stairs but most of their rooms do not. We had a great time relaxing, cooking and eating on the patio.

Customer service is overrated!

You cannot see the town from this position. Only 4 rooms have a balcony. And the view from allocated garden areas is not worth talking about. Better from the small window but had to close because looking straight at neighbours balcony which they took advantage of. Privacy with views does not exist. 2.5 hours for two drinks and one course in restaurant for dinner. Meal was good just had to wait far too long. You could see the restaurant waiter was under too much stress trying to serve a full restaurant by himself. Second attendant obviously late and not really interested. You could add a few extra euros onto price and get a reasonable service if $ the issue but you get the feeling customers are an inconvenience.

The staff was extremely unfriendly. They forgot our request to pick our luggage and, on top of that, they thought it was acceptable to hang up the phone on us and then to scream at us when we call the reception wondering about any news on the luggage request. It is a total shame that such a nice place is completely recked by such an awful staff.

Great location with a wonderful view, very basic but adequate, the shower is 2ft square! The female staff member/owner was very friendly but the male was the most miserable we met on our travels around Italy and France.Be aware not in the centre if Riomaggiore and bus is required which finishes at 8pm

Perfect place to relax, but not convenient

This hotel has the most amazing views, garden space for each apartment, and it is absoulutely beautiful! The apartments are clean with a small kitchen and a window with the amazing view. However, I was uninformed on how far away it is from Riomaggioro. It is 4 km and the only way to get there is to take the bus. The bus had a very infrequent schedule. The other downfall is that the restaurant is closed on Monday and the only other restaurant is about a 1/4 mile walk away on a busy road on the cliff. So, if you chose to stay here you should have plenty of time in your itenarary. It is the perfect place to relax, sip a glass of wine, and enjoy the view away from all the crowds of people in the towns.

Amazing view but there' blinking lights when sleep

Personally I think a short stay on a cliff is worth the distance, especially when you can easily get there by cheap bus from Riomaggiore. We arrived on a stormy night, watching endless lightening on the sea horizon from our room's front yard was unforgettable. Food at the restaurant was good for a fair price. My only complaint goes to all the blinking lights in the bedroom, from different appliances, even after we switched off the electricity brake there're still 3 lights I had to block with clothes..one right in front of the bed, not sure how this installation was approved. And, have to say, it has the most bizarre collection of TV channels..

Just OK hotel with stunning view

The hotel room is very basic and expensive for the price we paid for but the view out of the hotel window is really stunning. The view of the Mediterranean Sea and the Cinque Terre cliff outweighs the condition of the room. The breakfast at the hotel restaurant was superb. The location itself is not easy to find, we drove passing the hotel and ended up at Rio Maggiore before calling the hotel for the direction.

Beautiful Eco Lodge! An unexpected gem

We stayed three nights at Il Borgo di Campi with our four year old in July 2015. We made reservations in advance and after reading the negative June 2015 reviews I was nervous!

WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. My four year old would like to move there, especially after trying the strawberry panna cotta. She also loved the play ground with it's many kitties, and taking the train to Monterosso (for the sandy beach).

Cinque Terre is a National Park so if you think in terms of places like Yosemite or Grand Canyon in the USA, you won't be put off by the eco-conscious attitude & requirements of the region. Il Borgo Di Campi rivals some of the lovely eco-lodges in California with a restaurant that has wonderful food and amazing views, and rooms that are very down to earth. The hotel is slightly removed from Riomaggiore town center, meaning you have to take a bus up the hill from the main town. The views are totally worth it and we will return here.

Secluded, good for people who want their solitude

Cottages are strewn over a hillside giving great views of the blue sea, but also involves a trudge every time one has to come to the reception or get out to the road level. Those with luggage be aware.
Rooms are basic, wish they had a window. Convenient for those with a car and need to park and explore the Cinque Terre area through their own car or other means of transport.
Air conditioning works from 6 pm onwards until the morning, a bit strange. Ours went off and on as if it had a life of its own.
Place is run by owners themselves and is generally well maintained.

It doesn't get any better than this. Il Borgo di Campi is a great place to stay in Cinque Terre. The views are gorgeous, the staff is friendly and helpful, you get free parking and the rooms have kitchenettes. The rooms have a kitchen including 2 burners and dishes to use. Yes, there are many stairs to walk up and down but the views are completely worth it and you will get a waterfront view. Each room also has a seating area and/or garden as well. They also have luggage service if you ask. I've stayed here twice and really enjoyed my stay both times. I will definitely stay here again.

My experience with ll Borgo di Campi, I had to warn others. The scenery was beautiful but it was not worth the unpleasant experience with the staff.
On arrival, we were greeted by a lady who was on the phone the entire time. After 15 minutes of waiting for her to get off the phone which she did not, she handed us the keys to our room and pointed at a red room down the hill. There were several rooms painted red so this did not help at all. This was all communicated through body language because she was still on the phone. After finally finding my room, I received a call from the lady at the front desk who said “I realized I didn’t give you much information, did you find your room. Another issue I had with ll Borgo di Campi was the bug. We found three spiders in our room and centipedes. The room itself is poorly lit. The shower was very small and did not feel clean.
On our last day we asked to leave our luggage at the front desk. They lady at the front told us to leave our bags at the unattended WiFi room because she may not be at the front desk when we arrive. I told her I did not feel safe keeping my bags at an unattended room which got her very irritated and she started ranting in Italian. She told us we can keep it at the office but did not look too happy about that.

Riomaggiore great place to stay. Amazing sunsets!!

It was an excellent time. We climbed 203 steps up and down each day!!! Marco was very helpful. The wifi was good!!! We slept well had two rooms. Plenty of everything. Kitchenette was great. Just need a tea towel!!!!

Amazing location but dated rooms

Magical location and breath-taking views, but a lot of steps to access hotel cottages from main road/reception/restaurant area. Breakfast and restaurant service very good although expensive. Room furnishings were dated but satisfactory for a short 2 night stay. Cleanliness of room could have been better.

Too far from town

Definitely not in waking distance to Riomaggiore. There is a bus that run throughout the day but stops at 8:00pm so getting dinner in the towns is hard to do. It's a nice place if you want to be away from everything. The view beautiful. Would like to go back to Cinque Terre and stay in one of the towns.

lovely views, lots of stairs

Quaint and charming rooms, haven't been updated for some time, more of a cottage feel than a hotel. Lovely ocean views and pretty grounds. Be prepared for lots of steps down from the reception area to the cottages. Good food in the dining room! You need to be organized to plan timing of shuttle bus into town or you will waste a lot of time waiting, as it is located several kilometers from the town of Riomaggiore.

Don't even consider this hotel!! Filthy dirty!!

Stayed here for 3 nights and the only positive thing I can say is that the property is beautiful. The rooms were dirty, for 3 days we had to use the same towels because \"water is precious there\" and they don't waste it although the kitchen tap ran continuously. The staff were rude and were only interested in getting in your wallet. Cinque terre is beautiful and there are many \" decent\" hotels in the area but avoid this DUMP at all cost!

Very nice hotel on a cliff

Amazing views from everywhere in this hotel built on a cliff very close to Riomaggiore, one of Cinque Terre gorgeous villas. Keep in mind that this hotel is buitl on a cliff, all the rooms are spared at different levels. There are lost of stairs but the views are wonderful. It has its own parking, a must and a luxury in this area. Food is very good and the terrace where the restaurant sits makes this place one to recommend and return. I have no words to thank the staff who made special accomodations for me.

Slice of paradise but service lacking

Self contained unit is a challenge to get to but in amazing setting. My second stay here, service at checkin, checkout lacking. Had requested 1 bedroom apartment-a double and 2sofa beds. Was given a bedroom with ensuite bathroom-not great when other 2 people had to walk through bedroom to use bathroom. Other beds were a double with a trundle bed. I was handed the sheets to make up our own bed. We pulled the trundle bed out and mattress pad was dirty. Clerk seemed put out when we requested someone come to put a clean mattress pad on bed. Floor was dirty. Sign in kitchen stated a charge of 20 euros =$30 if kitchen left dirty. limited supplies- no dish towel. When I asked for a dish towel clerk seemed rude and offered to sell me one for 2 euros. Would suggest improving supplies-we had 2 dinner knives only, no tea kettle, plastic wine glasses. We arranged our checkout time day before we left, had arranged to have our luggage taken up the hill by trolley. power went out since there was a thunder storm. We carried our luggage up 200 stairs in the rain, someone came to help when we were almost done. restaurant serves great dinners-2 excellent servers. I would stay here again because the setting is beautiful but travel companions said they would not stay again due to rude attitude at checkin. I would suggest improvement for customer service at checkin. For a self contained unit I would expect at least 4 dinner knives, a tea kettle, real wine glasses and a dish towel.

Not Quite Cinque Terre, but Worth It

Il Borgo Di Campi is about 3 KM away from Riomaggiorre, which means you either have to make the trek down the mountain on foot, rent a scooter or take the bus to get into town. But, the setting high over the sea, with glorious sunsets, good food, an attentive staff and comfortable (but not luxurious) rooms, is well worth it. Stay here, kick back and remember why you came to the Cinque Terre in the first place.

Very Rustic

This hotel is located on a cliff outside Riomaggiore, Italy. The location is beautiful. The owners and employees go out of their way to help you. However, to get to the rooms/small suites, you must go down the cliff on approximately 200 steps. And what goes down, must come up. It is a workout! Also, the bus to get there or back into town does not run very frequently and is often full, so you must wait an hour or more for the next one. We did love our time here, just did not know these things when booking.

Beautiful setting, out of town

This is a very quaint hotel, in a very beautiful setting. However it is not in town which was very inconvenient. (I missed that part when I booked it and of course it was non refundable) There is a public bus that only runs a few times a day so you really have to plan when you leave and return to the hotel. That is really the biggest flaw. However if you have a car and can drive most of the way I imagine it wouldn't be so bad. There are a lot of stairs down to your room but we really didn't find it that bad. If you're planning a trip to Cinque Terre prepare yourself for lots of stairs! Also the bed was in need of a new mattress.

OK for one night

In brief, the place was OK for one night. It was the cheapest place we stayed in the Cinque Terre but not exactly a bargain either. There are much nicer places to stay if your budget will stretch an extra €10 per night, but if everywhere else is booked, this place is OK. If I was being generous, I'd call Il Borgo di Campi quirky, but in reality, calling it below standard is probably more accurate. Positive: it is in a beautiful setting - although not highly accessible if you don't have a car nor close to the best walking trails - and it has beautiful grounds. But, right from receiving the confirmation email I could see that it was a place with many rules and systems. For example, the bus (which only runs once every 2 hours) reaches Campi at 14.40 but check-in won't open until 15.00 (as we were told without welcome or humour by a staff member on arrival). We stayed in a duplex apartment which was kind of fun, but also totally impractical and didn't make the most of the beautiful views with just one tiny window. My husband is about average height yet could only just stand in the shower as the roof was so low. In the mezzanine bedroom, I could only stand-up straight in half the room. The place was clean enough, but had a mouldy shower curtain and smelt far too strongly of cheap air freshener. The whole place felt like a missed opportunity really. It could be an incredible place to stay, a destination in its own right - but I'm afraid right now, it really isn't!

If your looking to be in the Boonies great location but, no where near the action. Nice people, great if your trying to get away from people. I would recommend you stay in Vernazza... This hotel is to far and cost a lot of time and extra money ( Taxi's and Buses) that could be spent on a better more centralized room.

Amazing view, long trails to the room

We arrived by train late at night. The hotel picked us up for free and shuttled us back to the hotel. We did have to take our luggage to the top of the hill to meet them because no cars are allowed in Riomaggiore. They checked us in at midnight and off we went. Our room was down a ton of really long trails that weren't well marked for midnight, but in the daylight the paths were easy just steep. The view was amazing, the room was perfect. It is not a swanky 5 star NY hotel. It is a cozy, clean, little room and after trains and last minute hotels over most of Italy it was GREAT. Mostly the bus stop was right outside, the towns were amazing and waking up to vineyards and the Mediterranean is hard to be bad. I would book this hotel again.

Great view; difficult to get to town

The views were great. The terraces were fabulous. The room was very spacious--a two room apartment with kitchenette and one of the largest bathrooms I've seen. The down side: The hotel restaurant was closed one day. We visited a nearby place (very good). The 2nd night, the restaurant was full and we were told (along with several other paying hotel guests) that we would not be served that night. Very rude. We walked back to the other restaurant and had a great meal. Poor management skills for the restaurant. Also, getting to town to take the train is all about the bus schedule. Miss the bus and you're out of luck. There's no other transportation.

The location close to the cinque terre and the personnel is great. The view is amazing. Be carefull to ask to be place eslewhere then the room Lobelia because this room as no view from it nor from it's garden. Nothing is included (breakfast, wifi, extra towels, cleaning at the end of your stay, they actually say it will be 20 euros more if the kitchen is not clean). And once you've book, a few days before your trip, you receive an email saying that there is 200 stairs from your room to the ground level and it's true! Don't forget anything in your room!

Awesome views

Just outside Riomaggiore. Stunning location with super friendly staff and an excellent restaurant. We had a car so had no difficulty in getting around but you would have to use the public bus if you have no vehicle. The rooms are reasonably large and clean and all have views to the Mediterranian. Lots of steps to get the heart pumping in the morning (200 to our room) but a luggage transport service will assist in getting bags back up to the road on departure.
If you are expecting a 5 star hotel with all the trimmings then you will be disappointed. If you want a bit of character and an awesome view then this is the place to get it.

Too far away

The hotel itself will provide you with a pretty authentic Italian experience. It's in a vineyard and has pretty incredible views. However, it is located a few km away from Riomaggiore and there is nothing else near the hotel (no stores, entertainment, nothing). There is a bus that comes by the hotel every 3-5 hours if you need a ride into Riomaggiore. This was a bit too far out of the way for our liking. If we had rented a car, it may have been a better experience.

Ocean view can't be beat

This was a fun place to stay. Be prepared to get exercise climbing up and down the stairs, but the place has such character you don't really care. The gorgeous views of the coast make it worth it. And the atmosphere is very low key and relaxing. We did not find out the history of the place, but appears to have at one time been a terraced farm. Units are older and not very up-to-date. Most likely housing for workers converted to individual units. The room was clean, but very hot. The small air condition unit in our room did not work well, but a fan was provided which helped with the air flow. Had we not been there during a heat wave, it would have been fine. I would return there again just for the beauty. A bus conveniently took us into Cinque Terre where we enjoyed spending time. One negative - there is not an easy way to get there if you don't have a car. A taxi to and from Le Spezia was quite expensive. Also there is no market available or close by in case you happened to forget any personal items. And no way to get to one if you do not have a car as bus service is spread out and ends early evening. So make sure you're prepared. But once you're there and you've lugged your luggage several flights down the winding, terraced stairs to your room, it's worth the stay.

Rude front desk staff. Unaccomodating. Pointed us in the direction of our room. Water leaked out of the shower pooling all over the floor & the staff wanted us to PAY for fresh towels after we used our 1 DAYS worth provided (we were there for 4!!) to mop it up. No a/c until July with NO option to have it on. VERY DIRTY room & bathroom. Cobwebs, mold & VERY old blankets & decor in rooms. Expensive & rediculous wifi. Just go to the bar attached (separate owners) order a beer & theirs is free. LOTS of steps to your room! Must say the views from private balconies & the grounds of the hotel were stunning. Free parking handy & grounds of the hotel much better kept than the rooms.

This hotel offers outstanding views and good restaurant. That's it! Our room, the \"Mimosa\" located directly below the terraced dining area, was dated, worn, dimly lit and the list goes on but the biggest problem was the pungent cat odor and dander attributed to the 4+ cats that seem to roam freely on the property. Wi-Fi is offered only in a limited area and with a surcharge. Given the primium location we were expecting much better. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. But the views are really awesome.

Location!

Fantastic location only a few kms from Riomaggiore with the most Amazing view! Restaurant menu limited but sufficient for the night of our arrival and not wanting to drive back into town and very reasonable for where you are. Long walk down stairs from reception and restaurant to the accommodation which was fine for most of us though one with a bad knee struggled. Walls and ceilings very thin and could hear the people above and next door early in the morning. But overall a fantastic location and view for what we paid! Definitely value for money in this area and would stay again..

Most Excellent view, but not close to town

The view from the hotel area is incredible to say least. The atmosphere at the hotel is very nice. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. The only down side to this hotel is the ability to get it. There is a local that runs at 930(ish) AM to the hotel from riomaggiore. The one from the hotel down to riomaggiore leaves the hotel around 10:15AM. The last bus up to the hotel is at 7:40PM so if you want to have diner in town you MUST book a taxi or have a taxi number ahead of time. There are no taxis in the town of riomaggiore, the taxi has to come from La Spezia. It will about 35 euro from what i hear. We walked down to riomaggiore from our hotel and it took about 1 to 1-1/2 hours. We stopped to take a few pictures. We decided walking up later that night was too much. We found a local who was willing to take us up to the hotel, but it wasnt easy finding someone. If you have a car or scooter this place would be perfect.

It was wonderful, except for the bed of the room Petunia, it was inside a wood box and it was really uncomfortable. The location, the restaurant, the place everything was really nice, a perfect place to spend some time reading a good book, looking the sea and talking with friends. I really recomend it (but not the Petunia)

Amazing views and a truly unique experience

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a short break in Cinque Terre and loved everything about this hotel! The rooms are rustic, but that is part of the charm as I think the hotel is an old farm, which still seems to produce grapes and olive oil. The views from the rooms and restaurant are absolutely stunning and it feels very special to be able to stay in such a unique location. Climbing the approx. 200 steps to and from the room is not a problem at all as there is a small \"train\" for your luggage and you are rewarded with panoramic views along the way. I really loved the fact that all rooms have their own small garden! Where else can you have lunch under your \"own\" olive trees while admiring the sea view?! The hotel also provides free still and sparkling mineral water, which was a very nice touch.

Lovely view but not worth the effort

Views are great. Didn't like how staff talked on the phone while serving us, especially when they were laughing, felt it was rude. The apartment was very small and they had the cheek to have a sign in the kitchen telling to keep it Clean or pay 20 euro. We are adults!!!! We should feel comfortable not worried about all the rules!

Beautiful Resort

This place is incredible. We got here by public transport - totally possible although there is a free car park if you've hired a car. The resort is so beautiful, gardens filled with rosemary, lavender and vines, lots of friendly well-looked after cats hanging around and bats and fireflies in the evening. There are sea views from everywhere as it is on the side of a hill. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms lovely and clean with well stocked kitchens (we cooked most nights). We ate in the restaurant on the last evening and it was the best food we'd had during our whole week in Italy - very reasonably priced too. Each apartment has it's own lovely private garden for al fresco dining or just sitting out. Wi-fi available at a small cost, although don't expect to receive a signal in the apartments as the walls are 80cm thick! You can get a good signal on the terraces near to reception though. I don't have enough good things to say about this place, it is my favourite of all the places I've ever stayed in on holiday and better than all the houses I've ever lived in come to think of it!

Beautiful site, incredible view

Really enjoyed the hotel. The room was comfortable and clean and the site was spectacular! The hotel is about 4 kms outside of Riomaggiore and it was a downhill walk with fabulous views. A shuttle bus runs from town uphill to the hotel but stops at 7:00 pm. The restaurant was excellent! Breakfast was OK.
