Loved my stay at La Zorza! Super easy to find—right through the pedestrian tunnel from the train station and just a few steps uphill. At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect since the entrance is tucked behind a restaurant and up a short staircase, but it ended up being a great surprise. I was traveling solo, and the staff kindly helped carry my suitcase to the room, which I really appreciated. Each day I came back from exploring one of the five terres to fresh towels and a neatly made bed. The shower was a bit small with limited space to move around, but it was totally manageable. For the price and location, it was excellent value. There are great restaurants all around and easy access to the train station. I’d happily stay again!

Was probably my best experiance of stay in the hotel ever in that price category! It's also best situated in Riomaggiore – don't need to climb the mountain. Super clean and comfortable room, fresh renovated, very good beds, good aircondition. For sure I'll want to come back here! 5 diamonds!

Very unpleaant staff. Noisy and uncomfortable.

Upon arrival, the staffs attitude was exceptionally unpleasant. I encountered a woman smoking in the alleyway. Despite the presence of two young men behind the bar, I had to carry my bags up four steep flights of stairs, which ended up causing strain on my back. The bed was extremely uncomfortable – it consisted of two singles pushed together but constantly separated. Moreover, the bar downstairs was excessively loud, and the noise from above was disruptive.

When I voiced my concerns, two individuals from the bar, (dumb and dumber) arrived at my door, behaving as if they were bouncers ready for a confrontation. Regrettably, no action was taken to address the noise issue, and even the double-glazed windows in the stairwell were left open.

The final straw was my attempt to have breakfast at the bar on Sunday morning. I was initially told it was closed, only for it to be reopened to locals just five minutes later. The overall experience was further marred by the unpleasant demeanor of the staff.

Pros: Not too far from the train station, easyto find the bar where we checked in (tho I sure needed to be led up the maze of stairs to the room!), good price.
Cons: Noisy. Thin walls let us hear neighbors way too clearly. Sound proofing on windows was good, but not enough to completely shut out the rowdy patrons at the bar downstairs. And we never got the AC to turn on, tho it was cool enough by the evening that we got by without it.

No wifi. They even leave a paper in your room saying you can't complain about the wifi because it is not included in the price of your room, yet on Expedia it clearly says free wifi, not free wifi that does not work and is not included. They texted me all the final day saying I had not checked out yet and my stuff was still in my room and they were going to charge me for another day, even though I had checked out at 9:00 am and had already checked into my next hotel by the time they started texting me. Location is nice. Be ready to climb some stairs though.

The property was wonderful. It was 5 minutes walking from the train station which was super convenient. The staff were nice. Everything was wonderful besides the water pressure. The water would sometimes stop in the shower and you would have to cut it on and off to get the water back flowing but other than that it was great.

The location of this property is wonderful. Very centrally located. It is very clean with daily room attention. Our challenge was with the water and internet. There is a paper in the room saying internet wasn’t guaranteed yet the sign out front says they offer internet. It did not work at all. The shower, when there was hot water, would lose water pressure halfway through the shower even if you were fast. These two issues really did make the stay at La Zorza challenging. There are also a lot of stairs to get to the room. However, if you are familiar with Riomaggiore, this fact shouldn’t surprise you.

First I want to be clear that my wife and I enjoyed our time at La Zorza. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room, albeit quirky, was clean and comfortable.

However this is not a luxury hotel, nor does it pretend to be. You're going to walk up brick stairs to your room. It's going to be a bit of a maze to get there, but look at the pictures of Riomaggiore this should not be a surprise.

The hotel is very convenient to the train station, this is important if you plan on exploring the other villages in Cinque Terre.

There is a complementary breakfast buffet.

Our stay at La Zorza

We enjoyed our stay at La Zorza. Admittedly, it offers basic accommodations, and nothing fancy. There are a lot of stairs and no elevators, but in Riomaggiore that is not unusual, and the staff hauled our bags to the room for us. The towels are the thin cottonweave variety but they do the job - and the hotel brought us extras so we could take them to the beach. The air conditioning worked well, the room was quiet and we slept well. The hotel also offered a couple of great discounts for food and drink and breakfast was good and plentiful. Best of all, the hotel is well located near the bottom of the long steep hill that is the main street in Riomaggiore so our walk from the train station was manageable even for a pair in our sixties.

Location was great. Loved their staff. The places lokes remodeled but a few thing were falling apart, like if they were not installed correctly. Overall it was very nice, big spacious room. The breakfast was perfect. The only bad thing was that the wifi did not work in our room, only in the restaurant.

We stayed three nights and were happy with our hotel choice. Our expectations werent high considering the small towns along the Cinque Terre area. We were happy with our room. It was clean and quiet. There was a sliver of ocean view. The wifi was not great. The breakfast was okay...not great...just okay. Its an odd setup in that check-in is on the ground level in a bar/restaurant. The rooms are up several flights of exterior stairs in a non-descript upper area of the building. There's not really a hotel here but some rooms and the bar. Dont expect much and know that you'll just really be spending more time out exploring the Cinque Terre region. Its close to the train station tunnel so that was a big bonus!

Satisfactory for a Popular Tourist Town

If you are planning a trip to the Cinque Terre, I would suggest staying in Riomaggiore. Vernazza is terribly over crowded with tour people and wasn't very pleasant. Riomaggiore was way less crowded and has much nicer restaurants. Given the popularity of the place and doing a lot of hotel research, I got the feeling that La Zorza is actually a bit above the standard. Mostly everyone we encountered that worked there was very cheery, but we only dined in the restaurant for the inclusive breakfast. The rooms were very basic and did have a private bath. You will want to bring your own toiletries though and if you need a nice towel, you might want to pack one. The bathroom linens weren't very comfortable and neither was the bed. The bed was very hard and our room faced what seemed to be local bars, so it was rather loud late into the evening. The WiFi didn't work too well, but it did in the restaurant. I also noted on our reservation that we were on our honeymoon, so I don't know if we got a better room than others or not, but there were other rooms online that appeared to be nicer. Overall, we weren't in our room the entire time, so the stay was satisfactory. Our bodies just ached from the super hard bed. I also didn't really shower much because the showers were very small.

Small room, but I wouldn't expect anything more in the Cinque Terre area. Very friendly staff. We arrived a couple of hours before check in and they let us leave our bags in the lobby while we had lunch and explore Riomaggiore.

Great location

Riomaggiore is, I think, the best place to stay on the Cinque Terre. You are away from the throngs at Monterosso and easily accessible from La Spezia.
The rooms, however, are above the night bar. This is OK if it's a quiet night, but they kick on past 12 if people are still there. So if you want a quiet night this is not the place to stay.

Fantastic location, easy to find hotel above a bar just up from the station. Room was clean but bathroom door would not stay shut. Disappointed as this was mentioned in previous reviews.
Our room was directly over the bar so very noisy at night, you could stut out some of the noise by closing the doors to the balcony and using the air conditioner but we quite liked the noise it somehow added to the ambience. The balcony was tiny and basically too hot to sit out as it housed the air conditioner unit which blew hot air at you which was a shame. Bed was very comfortable but basically two singles put together on a king sized frame which seemed a bit unnecessary but not really too much of a problem. Sheets and towels changed daily. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The hotel was near the train station and at the center of town. The bed was comfy. Will be back. Nice folks. A bit strict on the 11 am checkout, but you can leave your bag if you want to go around town. Closer to a 2.5 star hotel, compared to the 1 star it was rated for.

It is located above a bar, and one night the music was a little loud, but with the AC on and the windows closed, it wasn't much of a problem.

Great location in Rome.

We had a wonderful experience. GPS took us directly there, it was private and isolated (in a good way). Francesco was so helpful, spoke English, checked on us via WHATSapp and gave wonderful food recommendations when we asked. We were a 20 minute walk to the Vatican, about 15 minutes from the Spanish steps and not far from the bus stop. There were dozens of bars and food locations within a block. The room was clean, the bed was comfy, the shower had great pressure and hot water. The window out our room gave us a great view to the below street and the hustle of people walking by. Air-condition was great We were very happy with this hotel.

This room seems to have been carved into the side of a hill, yet there were rooms above and next to it. Not for a claustrophobic! Thin walls, dusty beams of logs, shower not big enough to turn around in. Breakfast same every morning, in small cramped area next to doors outside and unclean toilet room, causing many flies on food. Check-in at ground level bar, music so loud conversation was impossible. 50 steps up rocky narrow outside and inside stairs to get to room. It would be ok at half the rate but not $150.

La Zorza is in a great location. Along with their sister hotel, they can provide parking, which is a HUGE thing in this place. There is just zero parking because of popularity. It is also very steep here, if that is a problem for you. This hotel is a bit dated, but clean. It is pretty comfortable, and pretty quiet, though I could see if you had late night people next door it could wake you up. Breakfast was very good, buffet. The staff is very helpful. Hotel is steps away from the tunnel to the train station for going between the towns, and very close to boat landing for ferrying. The hotel desk is in the cafe below, enter there. Lots of steps in this town and this hotel, but that is part of why we come, for the beauty and view.

We booked this hotel the night before we stayed so we didn't expect much. We were surprised by the size of the room and what's available. It had a big bathroom, a window, a good size TV (no english channels mind you). It even had a clothes line outside the window. if you wanted to dry beach towels.

Great value at la Zorza

Riomaggoire is the southern of the Cinque Terre. Beautiful. This hotel is perfectly located nesr the foot of the steep town. The rooms are actually little apartments with kitchens. There is a very active bar/ outside lounge area where you check in. This is not 5 star hotel. What it is is a place to feel what Riomaggiore is all about. The staff is very friendly, just like the town.

We like the easy location and convenience from train station. As you know,travel to cinque terra,there's a
lot of steps and it's a special place for hikers and travellers who appreciate the unique and authencity of the town. Our room just on top of the restaurant and bar,it can be very loud but after a lot of walking and sight seeing, we can sleep regardless of loud noise from the bar. We enjoy the lively town and the locals.

Odd location. The room was okay. Very noisy at night. Seems to be run out of the café below. VERY steep uneven stairs to any room...exhausting to go up and down. Didn't see an elevator. Not the prettiest of the Cinque Terra towns but everything seemed to be sold out.

Comfort in a Prime Location

We absolutely loved staying at this hotel with a great location at the end of the main street near the tunnel that comes in from the square! We checked in through the downstairs bar (we highly recommend stopping in for happy hour) where a generous breakfast of pastries, cheese, meat, fruit, yogurt, cereal and coffee upon request is served. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable and the air conditioning powerful. We slept with the fan on and the windows open, which gave plenty of air circulation. It can be loud on the street below with several bars serving patrons late into the night. We embraced the atmosphere and slept peacefully to the joyful sounds, though I could see it putting off some people.

First trip to Cinque Terre

They say you get what you paid for but in all honesty, I think we received that and more during our stay at La Zorza. The staff were always very polite and attentive to our needs, helping to make our stay memorable. Our room was basic but very comfortable and fully stocked. The bathroom could use some updating but was completely functional and clean.

Perks in our reservation included a mini fridge for our beverages and an AC unit, which was FANTASTIC as we were there during a very hot spell. Some users complained about the breakfast but I thought it was great. To tell the truth, it WAS a small selection of pastries, cereal, cold cuts/cheese, fruit and juice but we aren't in America so there shouldn't be an expectation for a waffle maker, sausage, bacon and eggs, etc. To be fair, we have traveled to Italy before and prior to arriving in Cinque Terre, had been there for a month so we are very accustomed to this type of accommodation.

The hotel may not look like much from the photo but our room was just up the passage way from where you check in and was perfect for our needs. The room was clean and had a small bathroom with shower, toilet, sink, bidet. Clean towels every day. I liked that some of the walls were left as the original brick when it was remodeled. Desk and two chairs and small wardrobe. Two windows looked out onto the passage way let lots of light in. Secured entry to the two rooms on our level as well as to the hotel room. The bar is very busy in the evening and we would not have appreciated the room above the bar. Check in and check out was quick and efficient and included a continental breakfast. After busy long days it was a comfortable room to return to. I would stay there again.

Cheap and you get what you pay for

We notified the hotel we required a late check in and they said to ring if we get in after 11pm. We got in at 1pm and tried for 20 minutes to get a hold of management. Finally wet did and she was not happy. We knew we were going to be very late and booked our hotel that allowed late check ins. free breakfast was all eaten in the morning and not replaced. The bed was terrible, the bathroom dirty. If you need a really cheap place you got it. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Very close to the train station. We ended up missing a train due to delays and so arrived at 10:45 at night. I called the hotel staff who was at home. He offered to come meet us at the train station as we had no idea where to go and it was very dark and there were only a couple of people on the street to ask for directions. The cafe staff(where breakfast is served) were friendly and offered good suggestions of what to see during our short trip.

Arrived late to find accommodation in a dorm-like setting. Discussed with management and given an upgraded room for the next night which was very nice. Breakfast was excellent. Service staff friendly and helpful. Room on first night was over the bar and was quite noisy: World Cup. Second night quieter as on upper level floor. Rooms were air conditioned. Wifi did not work in rooms and had to be accessed in bar/restaurant. Overall a good experience.

Good base for exploring the Cinque Terre

We stayed here for several nights and found it an overall good experience. The hotel is very well positioned in Riomaggiore, next to some excellent restaurants and very close to the train station and marina. The room itself was a bit basic, but it was clean and had everything we needed, including a fridge which came in very handy. The room was cleaned and towels changed everyday. Breakfast was served in the bar below the hotel (where you also check in), although we didn't end up having this as we were always up and out before breakfast hours (8am to 10am). There are several grocery stores very nearby, and an excellent bakery. The hotel is maybe not suitable for those with mobility issues, as to reach the rooms there is a steep stone staircase and no lift. As the hotel is near several bars it can be a bit noisy in the evening until closing time, but with a pair of earplugs we were absolutely fine. If you want a good base for exploring the Cinque Terre and plan to be out and about a lot this fits the bill nicely.

This hotel was close to station and accessible. Rooms were a good size and we enjoyed our stay here. Our room overlooked the street and was right above the bar so we thought it was going to be very noisy but the window insulation kept the sound out.
Steep stairs but if you are in the Cinque Terre then that should be no hindrance.

La Zorza was in a spectacular location on Riomaggiore. It is about a 2-3 min walk from the port and/or train station. The hotel check-in is a bit confusing, as it is located inside of a cafe/bar off of the street. The rooms were spacious and the hotel staff was helpful. The hotel is right on top of the bar so it was a bit loud at night.

Nice little family run hotel

Cute little hotel near all the things we wanted to do. Breakfast is included in the room on the main floor. A very pleasant surprise was the basket full of gluten free products for celiacs when we went down for breakfast.
Our room over looked the main street but once the shutters were closed we did not hear the street noise at night.
We loved our visit to Riomaggiore.

Last Choice Hotel

If you want a quiet room, you better be ready to go up and down stiff stairs. After doing a lot of walking on tours last thing you want to do is get in to your room. I was there in pick season and this room was expensive. Room has no view. Double means 2 single bed put together. Not worth the money.

Clean hotel , great location

5 of us stayed 2 nights at this hotel. Was a bit worried at first because it is over a noisy & very busy bar/ pub. But the rooms were very quiet & they were spotless. Breakfast was fine with espresso and cappuccino. Staff was very helpful. Location was convenient, close to train connections & restaurants. The price may seem high but it is in line with other Cinque Terre hotels. I might stay at another town next time but think Zorza was ok, too. Only complaint was tiny strange shower arrangement in the single room.

Cheerful and happening place

Handy location at the foot of the hill, close to the train and in the middle of the action. Resto-bar on main floor was also handy and kept things lively. Not great value for the money but that seems hard to avoid in Cinque Terre.

Enjoyed every minute of my stay. A good location, close to the waterfront and close to the train station (but not too close). I took the trains up and down the coast and explored the area.

Great Location

Exceeded expectations. Previous reviews were poor but refurbishments now completed. Room was big, clean, good A/C, good bar fridge, and novel decor with some original stone wall sections plus exposed ceiling beams. Beds were hard and uncomfortable (as usual in Europe) but shower was adequate (twice as big as our \"coffin\" shower in Rome!). Typical Italian service - kept us waiting 40 minutes for check-in because no-one was there. However, the overall experience was great and the location spectacular.

Great Beach Town

We had a terrific stay at La Zorza, very convenient location - close to train station that took us to neighboring towns, plenty of cute stores, and a quiet room even when the hotel's bar was the most popular in town. Hotel maid was extra helpful when we asked for extra towels. Breakfast that was included with our stay was great too!

Unique yet Acceptable....

Hotel is located above bar and ideally situated within village. Reception desk can be accessed through the bar region. Signage is not ideal. Restaurant across walkway was very good. Wifi is accessible in bar location only not from rooms. Speed is impacted by number of bar/hotel guests accessing network.
Breakfast was sufficient and housekeeping very timely.
The rooms are unique/rustic and clean!!!
Make sure to confirm payment as the Expedia rate varied from the price quoted at check in/out.

Great Location

We stayed here for 4 nights and overall were happy. The hotel is in a great location, one of the first hotels in the town, there is a steep hill so would be quite difficult to get your luggage up the hill if you stayed further away. Room was neat, tidy and clean. Free wi fi downstairs. Only dissapointments were breakfast and also the day we left you are not allowed a late check out and no where secure to leave your bags.

Great location and value for money

La Zorza is close to the bottom of the hill at Riomaggiore, which is a real bonus. All the stuff you need is close buy, including great eating places. The hotel was great - staff were extremely friendly and happy, especially the girls at the bar. We had the room with a balcony on the first floor - excellent to watch the crowds go by.

Great Location

My daughter and I were touring Italy and Rio Maggiore was our last stay. We were glad we choose that town. It has tons of personality, fun shops and wonderful restaurants. La Zorza is conveniently located , close to the Sea, shopping and restaurants and a five minute walk to train station. We hiked the region and had a wonderful three-day holiday in Cinque Terre. Lots of steps to get to everything, but that is part of the adventure! Vistas were amazing! Sandals and Flip Flops are not allowed on the hiking trails. Sneakers work fine, although we saw several people wearing hiking boots. We were able to go to each of the five towns in the region. The train is available if the hike is too difficult and the stations are close to the center of each town. I would definitely go back.

500 year old atmosphere

We enjoyed our stay at La Zorza. Fortunately, we can climb steps, so the lack of an elevator did not disturb us. The hotel is 500 years old and has beamed ceilings and a stone wall. The room overlooks the main street of Riomaggiore. The amenities are fine - there is a hand-held shower, lots of drawers for storage, and lots of comfy blankets and pillows. The free breakfast does not includes eggs or fruit, but is fine otherwise.

Quaint Hotel with Amazing Staff in Best Location

Awesome place to stay in Riomaggiore! The rooms have a local feel to them, the breakfast is very good, and the location is convenient (you don't have to walk up the huge hill from the train station to get to the hotel). We had some trouble with our schedule train and the staff at Zorza was extra helpful in finding out the status and arranging for alternate transportation. Would definitely recommend this place!

We had troubles finding maps to the hotel, but based on another person's review indicating that the hotel was just a short walk through the tunnel, we were easily able to find it. The staff was very friendly. I would recommend this hotel to others.

Location is perfect but do NOT go by google maps from the Railway Station. Take the tunnel and you will be at the Hotel under 5 minutes with an easy walk.

Good location and friendly staff

This is more of a B&B than a hotel - however it is ideally located just 5 min walk from the station and water front. The staff are friendly and the bar/cafe in the hotel is great - offering cocktails, snacks and free wifi! The only thing i would say is that it was very expensive for what it was compared to other places we stayed in in Italy. I would recommend it.

Romantic and Lively!

We had a lovely room right above the entrance with a balcony overlooking the main street. We loved being in the thick of it! We sat out at night to drink local wine, see the stars and laugh at the silly college kids. In the morning we were awoken by the sounds of a small town getting the day started - trash collection, neighbors greeting each other, and train whistles. The staff was helpful and very friendly. The bed was comfortable, bathroom clean and fully equipped. It was the perfect spot for us to appreciate the people of Cinque Terra and their hard but happy lives. And the views are great. All at a reasonable price. Stay a week if you can, hike some each day, swim every chance you get, and have a cool drink in Zorza's bar in the afternoon! Perfecto!

Highly recommend this hotel as a base for Cinque T

Loved our stay in the hotel, influenced by the great location! Super friendly staff, great location in terms of the train station and walks in the area. Breakfast was basic but enough to get you started for the day. Meals and drinks are also cheap for other meals. Great fun atmosphere, bar downstairs that had a fantastic vibe. We were directly above the bar and the noise was almost un-noticeable (my wife is a light sleeper so this says something). Would stay here again next time we are in the area. This town seemed to be the pick of the 5 (we checked out the others over the 2 days we were in the Cinque Terre region) to set up camp - fun, smaller, intimate yet lively (and less crowded from other tourists comparatively).

This Hotel is Amazing!! It is right in the center of town, and everyone who works there will go out of their way to help you ( especially Guido )! My wife and I look forward to returning to the cinque terre, and we cannot wait to stay at La Zorza again!!

Hotel La Zorza, 5 Terre

5 terres is a lovely location but sadly a vicitm of its own success - tourists everywhere, over inflated prices and staff who feel they do not need to make ay effort with guests. The hotel was the worst and most expensive we have stayed in whislt in Italy. It felt like someone had a nice idea for renovation but stopped half way through. Lots of bodged jobs electric sockets without covers, bathroom and floor tiles still covered in grout, broken curtain rail and dirty curtain over bedroom window, glazing on window marked with pen form fitting. Dirty entrance and stairway to room. Breakfast put away whilst we were still eating.

Loved this hotel

Great location at bottom of the hill, handy to station. Street view from room and lots of local atmosphere. Plenty of steps to our room on second floor. Clean and comfortable with all modern fittings. Helpful staff. Dont judge hotel from outside appearances as it was a great place to stay and as a base to explore the Cinque Terre villages.
