Locked out . There was nobody there. We had to stand outside and ask locals to help find the manager ss the doors were locked… unacceptable to me.! We did eventually get in after a few hours. The lobby smelled of mold. The room dark and no view, tiny and not clean. The location was ok but would not stay here again mostly because of the poor service/no service and smell.

Very kind owners and staff

I had an excellent experience with all the staff, checking in and out. I also left something very valuable behind and they went WAY out of their way to make sure I got it back. Their honesty and kindness is priceless!
The location is great, just make sure you’re ready to trek up the steep hill with your luggage or pay for the luggage transport. The bed was pretty hard but that is typical in Europe/Italy. I would happily stay here again.

Had a nice stay here while exploring Cinque Terre. It was right off the main road so pretty easy to find it and get to it. It is up a big hill as most things are in the area. Had coffee in the mornings and it was cleaned every day. Reception is only certain hours but was super helpful. Our room was at the end of the hall so the WiFi wasn’t very good but it worked.it was a bit expensive for what it was but that is to be expected in the area.

No breakfast.

The place is very quaint, nice & clean. It's almost all the way to the top of a steep street. Challenging if your bags are heavy. Desk was friendly & gave good information. Told me curvk out was 7-10AM. But in the morning no one was on duty. So no free breakfast & no one to ask about luggage storage for the day. Other guests informed me that no one is at the desk till mid afternoon. That was disappointing.

This place is not too far from the Riomaggiore station but you'll have to travel uphill so get ready for a little leg day. We were able to check in early around noon. There were two daddy long legs on our ceilings but we didn't mind them too much. We were grateful for the AC. The trail at Riomaggiore was closed so next time we might stay at a different location at Cinque Terre.

Great hotel for the price

We choose this place last minute due to the price. Took a chance after reading the bad reviews. We got there around 4:30pm and called the son and the Father and they didnt answer but they both called back within 5 minutes. The son arrived soon after and was extremely welcoming and his assistant helped us with our luggage and pram. Rooms are very basic but were completely fine for one nights stay. Internet worked ok. The place is a few hundred metres up the steep hill from the water which would be a negative if you travelled by train. However if you have an issue with hills or walking then you should not go to Cinque terre! We drove to Cinque Terre so the place was great given the parking place is at the top of the hill!

clean hotel and friendly staff. you might not find someone at the reception sometimes but are always available when you drop them a call.
a bit tiring to reach it walking with bags since its on the top of the hill.

Perfect place to stay and explore!

I absolutely loved every minute of my stay here! It’s in a perfect location and right where you need to be to explore other parts of Cinque Terre! Room has A/C and heat along with a little fridge. Very quaint part of town and if your like me and tend to stay away from the crowds this location is perfect, close but not too close! Only down side was check in hours are limited so make sure to plan your trip accordingly! Other than that I loved everything so much I even booked another night because I was so in love with this town. It’s a perfect Home away from home kind of feeling!

Perfect hotel in the center of town!

Beautiful hotel room, great price! Private bathroom, spacious, air conditioning, clean, right in the center of town; who could ask for more? The vibe was great, and one of the walls of our room was stone. Very comfortable bed. Also, there's a free coffee/cappuccino machine in the lobby!

We wanted to be in one of the villages, and this hotel gave us that opportunity at a somewhat reasonable price point. The hotel was clean, has air conditioning and an espresso/cappuccino machine in the lobby. It was kind of bare-bones, but it was a good place to explore 5Terre. Only wish was for an in-room safe.

The room was very expensive for what it was. It felt like we were in the reception lobby and the room was dingy. we had been told we would have a room overlooking a courtyard and the room basically had no window (the window looked onto a wall) so the room was always very dark and there was no lounge area as per the discription.

The hotel is in a good location and the rooms are basic but have everything you need. So not necessarily a bad place to stay except that the management of this place is a joke. Check in is between 3 and 5pm...and that's it. As we turned up at a later time we had to call the number provided on the door to talk to the owner who started sermoning us about how we were late and that we were inconveniencing him. and that we'll wait about 20 min for him to turn up cause he was otherwise occupied. And in the morning do not expect to see any staff either there won't be any! So even though in itself the hotel isn't bad I would not recommend staying there because of the inconvenient \"working\" hours of the staff

A Place Not To Stay

We were not given a room at the hotel but an apartment offsite. The apt. had mould and mildew and smelled disgusting. The sheets on the bed were damp and we had to put them on the apt. heaters to dry them. The throw and spare blanket were also wet and stinky. We hung them out and put them on heaters, but could not get rid of the smell. Thankfully, we got the bedroom pretty fresh and survived this accommodation by spending very little time there. I complained to the owner about the smell but got no satisfaction. The apt. had a washer but no detergent, when I asked for some detergent to wash the smelly throw and blanket, I was directed to the local laundromat by the owner to wash his dirty throw & blanket (the washer in the apt. wasn't even hooked up). We had a fabulous trip to Italy. This accommodation was the only negative part of our trip. I was wary of this booking because there were mixed reviews. I should have heeded the non-positive comments about this owner and his hotel. I learned a valuable lesson here: heed the commentaries of other travellers.

We booked last minute and got a sweet deal on a great spot. Simple, but very clean and quiet. The front desk gentleman was accommodating. The only thing I wish we understood was that breakfast was served at a specific time. Being used to the American way, we thought when he said breakfast would be available between 8:30 and 10 that we could role out at 9:20 and eat. Alas, it was all cleaned up and only coffee was left for us hungry travelers. Note to self for future - service was meant to start at 8:30. The other guests were overheard saying it was a very good meal :) Would definitely go here again.

No need for a view

Great stay although we had no view (windows opened onto other building)and to get to the unit we had to climb 1000's of steps. Travel light when you go. The town made up for all the trouble getting there (remember pedestrian the tunnel from the station to the street where the hotel is located!!! We climbed the mountain to get there. It was all good though, an enjoyable stay and who stay's in the room when there is so much to see in the town, day and night.

The room was huge and so was the bathroom. It was a very comfortable stay, and I liked that the room also came with a desk. It's a very short walk to the coast to take the ferry or go kayaking.

The hotel is located at the first village Riomaggiore where is convenience to travel to the church and castle just behind the hotel. Eventhough need to walk a little bit from train station, not difficult for me. Up to the church you can see very nice sea sight and you can enjoy by sitting there for a while. The hotel boss is nice and restaurants in the village are good. I love the lemon soap from small shop there and small fried fish.

We stayed in a small, convenient room off of the main drag, Via Colombo. We had a big bedroom and nice bathroom that was very clean. It was very nice not staying in a hotel, but feeling as if we had our very own apartment in Riomaggiore. Would definitely stay here again.

The room we stayed in was more like an apartment. It included a kitchenette, a living/eating area, a bedroom and a bathroom. Although the extra room was nice, the room was not cleaned daily. The location of the room was good; it was less than a minute walk to the center of Riomaggiore. This room would not be well-suited for anyone with difficulty getting around, as it was up at least 2 sets of very narrow stairs with no elevator. It was located down the road from the reception location (which was actually across the street from the address listed).

A real Italian Experience

First, when the guide books tell you that driving to Cinque Terre is not recommended. BELIEVE THEM! The road from Monterosso to Riomaggiore was closed so alternate routes that our GPS had no knowledge of, had to be taken. We were lucky to find a free parking spot in a parking garage in Riomaggiore. The hotel was a steep walk down the hill to where you check in. The man who checked us in said, \"I hope you don't have a lot of luggage because there are a lot of steps to your apartment\", and he wasn't kidding. Our room was not in the hotel, but in one of the apartments they manage. His son walked us down the hill to show us our apartment. It was up a lot of stairs, then a sidewalk down a dark narrow passage way to more steps. Then up a steep set of stairs to a landing, then another very steep set of stairs to the apartment. The last flight of stairs was more like climbing a ladder than a flight of stairs. The apartment while very old, gave us a feel of what the residents of Riomaggiore go through everyday. In spite of the steps, we really enjoyed the stay.

Deliberately try to rip you off!

On the day of our arrival, there was a problem with our train which meant that we weren't arriving until 9:30pm. We emailed the hotel and go no response. We then tried to call the hotel and they didn't speak any English. Eventually I found a friend who spoke Italian who called the hotel for me. They were told that a late check in was not possible and that they were unable to refund our money.

The hotel then became confused and cancelled our whole booking instead of just one night. I tried to call back 5 mins later to re-book the other 2 nights and they said the room had already been taken and if I wanted to book another night I would need to pay for the full price!

This was not only a scam but also highly stressful for myself and my parents as we were close to having no-where to stay that night!

Perfect for us.

I highly recommend this hotel. Very affordable, Clean and comfortable. We only payed $68/night considering it is an apartment style. You got washroom, bedroom living area and a kitchen!
Close to the shore about 2-3min walk and your there.
For the price that we got it is amazing!

Really lovely, close to station and city centre

This was a really nice place to stay. I was apprehensive about sharing a bathroom as I'm a bit of a clean freak, but the whole place was spotless and we didn't cross over with the other 'bathroom users' once. The balcony is big and catches the sun well, the beds were comfortable, and there are kitchen facilities for those who need them (we only stayed one night so didn't use them). It was a short walk from the station to get there, and the same again into the city, so overall really easy. The lady who welcomed us was really helpful too.

Definitely a one star hotel

Though it was probably clean, it looked dirty. The mirror was too high for my friend to see in. The mattress was a king size, but was clearly divided into two large indentations on either side where people sleep with a big hump in the middle. It was so lumpy you could see it just by looking at it with the blankets on. The bed frame literally came apart in two pieces. The soap and shampoo dispenser were empty. Worst of all, the steps leading up to it were incredibly steep, yet there was only a rope tied to the wall as a hand rail! On top of that, the light was out so you need a flashlight to find the keyhole (if you didn't die on the steps). The guy that checked us in was pleasant, but the one that showed us to our room didn't smile or say anything and he flicked his cigarette ash on my shoe!
Positives: it felt secure, facilities functioned, it was fairly close to the train station and the marina.

Accommodation located away from main hotel. Once we were shown our room our service stopped. There was no Wifi as advertised. Kitchen poorly provisioned. Trying to get fresh towels was very difficult, in fact staff had no idea where we were staying to deliver them. Apart from the location, this was a very disappointing experience.

STAY AWAY,!!!!

My stay was horrible. I booked for three nights but left after the first night. I was of the understanding that I had booked a hotel room. When I arrived I was told I had booked an apartment. After demanding payment up front I was led on a five minute walk which involved going down a very steep narrow rock stairway to a narrower alley to the door to the \"apartments\". I was shown inside and left alone. The term \"apartment\" is not accurate. I noticed there was no soap in the shower so returned to the office to get soap. I was told that as it was an apartment they were not obligated to provide soap. I spent the night there, woke up and took a shower only to find the hair of a prior resident in the shower. I returned to the bed I had slept in, pulled back the blankets and found dried blood on the sheets. I made the decision to leave immediately. This \"hotel\" is wholly unsatisfactory and wholly unsanitary. The attitude of the owners behind the desk Is terrible. I cannot understand why Hotels.com continues to represent this facility. If you stay at this hotel you have only yourself to blame.

Cinque terra hotel

Great location but keep in mind that apartment locations vary and the address provided is of the office. Our apt was in riomaggiore right in the town center -- as a result very loud, right above a bar. Apt was pretty bare bones, no ac or any appliances, 2 towels were provided, no toiletries. The entire apt smelled damp but this seems pretty typical of places in the area. Overall, good value for the budget traveller but not luxurious by any means.

I stayed in one of the apartment style rooms at Locanda Dalla Compagnia in Riomaggiore. I honestly don't know why people have given this place bad reviews because my stay was fantastic. The price was very reasonable and everything we could ask for was provided. If you are looking to stay in Riomaggiore, I'd highly recommend staying here and reserving one of the Standard Apartments.

The Expedia description did not make clear that the rooms we were to occupy were not in the hotel itself, but were small, poorly appointed, apartments away from the main building, and were extremely difficult to access. Because of this remoteness of the rooms, we needed a little extra time to transfer baggage prior to checkout, and the owner was not only unhelpful, he was rude and abusive. This would be the last place I would recommend.

On main drag of Riomaggiore, about a 10 min walk from the station, all uphill. At least no stairs. I stayed in an apartment which is situated a few minutes back down the hill. Apartment was clean and comfortable, but a bit spartan. No TV, no WiFI. In order to get WiFi, you had to go back up the hill and sit in reception, which was open very limited hours. Kitchen was nice. Only provided salt, no auger etc and only 1 potfor cooking, no strainer etc. As only a couple of small expensive co-ops in town, would not recommend to get an apartment and self cater. Phone lines were down and cash payment demanded up front. There is 2 ATMs in town.

Good sea views and proximity

We arrived early for check-in, so were shown this little apartment right down by the water, up a floor. It was a great place in general, particularly for location. The owner was nice. She showed us around the place and left us to it. The unfortunate things was we had difficulty opening the door that night, and had difficulty knowing how to get this rectified. The place where we checked in was unattended, their phone was not working, and we didn't know how to get hold of the owner of our apartment. We suggest that the owner explain clearly (in English perhaps) on check-in what to do if the door won't open.

Great location but hours of service was only 3-6pm. How ridiculous is that? We arrived at midnight unaware. The doors were locked and really hard to even find the hotel behind the gate. And no info on parking so we had to leave our car illegally. Eventually we called the number in the door and got an angry voice. He did eventually let us in after about 40 min of confusion and waiting and we were yelled at. The place promised a TV but no TV. The place smelled of fungus and we found a huge fungus inside the kitchen cabinet as well as bathroom ceiling corner and bedroom ceiling corner as well. Bc we couldn't change our plans, we stayed but it was not a pleasant smell. Cinque Terre was beautiful and the location was great. I would try to find another place next time.

We arrived at 930pm while checkout ended at 7pm. We were able to get another hotel closeby to call the mobile number and were able to check in that night which was really great! It is well located in Riomaggiore, one of the main streets and is close to the train station and marina. We had an apartment and it was great everything worked and it was clean.

We booked the apartment, but when we arrived, we were told that the bathroom was broken so we were offered a room in the main hotel. We were given complimentary breakfast at the hotel because of that which was nice. The new room we were in was just okay. It was pretty clean, but the window was about 2 feet from the mountain wall, so as a result there was no natural sunlight and it was damp in the room. When we washed clothes in the sink, they did not dry. The shower flooded the bathroom when we used it and because it was so damp, there was a moldy smell. It was in a pretty convenient location in Riomaggiore and the surrounding towns were very beautiful. The hotel staff was nice and it was kind of them to give us free breakfast because of the issue with the apartment. Beware if you come visit Cinque Terre: as of April 2014, none of the coastal trails are open, so that puts a damper on the fun in Cinque Terre overall.

Please pick a better hotel.

No one answered the door when we arrived. We waited until a guy with his girlfriend took us to our room on other side of town. Never saw him again. Didn't communicate any info regarding our stay. No commodities in hotel. A cleaning lady showed up to our door unannounced the morning we were supposed to leave. Very awkward. Horrible hotel. It's not even worth the cheap price you pay. Choose another hotel.

Brrrr...can I get some help?

Maybe it was the low season, but I felt disappointed. We got to the hotel, and the man rushed us through check in, and didn't really answer our questions, as to where to eat or get food. As a B&B we didn't get breakfast.
Our room was clean enough, had a fridge for groceries.
There is a hot water tank for your showers, which is fine. Got 2 towels in the room...no hand towel.
Big problem...It was freezing in the room. There was no heat, and the man wasn't in the office to help us with this matter. There was a big door to outside from our room which let in a lot of cold and a lot of outside sound. And it was so damp in our room, nothing dried, including our towels- and we never got housekeeping to change them out, in our 3 night stay. So it didn't help when it poured one day and our clothes were soaked, and we knew they would stay that way until we got to another hotel.
But, Cinque Terre is beautiful in itself.

Locanda dalla Compagnia: Casa Nuova

We stayed in Casa Nuova which is a two bedroom apartment (one bedroom was semi-blocked off since we did not need it). A few notes to make: The apartment is extremely outdated. The shower is really small. We had no cutlery in the kitchen so we had to improvise with eating our breakfast. There is no wifi access in this apartment. The \"short cut\" from the main road is 160 steps up to the front door. The view from the balcony makes up for any concerns you may have with the apartment though! It was great to have morning coffee and evening drinks with a view of the sea and town! If you plan to spend the majority of your time out of the apartment, this place will suit you just fine.

Extremely Rude Staff and Not Clean

We arrived at the hotel at 8:30pm to find that the doors to the lobby were locked and two signs on the door said that check-in ended at either 6:00 or 7:00 depending on which sign you read. In either case this is an excessively early time to end check in and it never occurred to us that 8:30 would be too late. When we called, the owner sent his son to let us into our room. Turned out that our room was in a separate building a 5 minute walk away down a dark winding ally that was not connected to any other rooms owned by the hotel and the door to our room opened right onto the alley. As two single females traveling alone we did NOT feel safe there. The sheets on the bed weren't clean as they contained at least 4 different types of hairs, the floor of the shower looked disgusting and if you ran the water in the shower for more than 2 minutes it would flood the entire bathroom floor and smelled a little like sewage. The next morning when we formally checked in the owner was extremely rude to us, insinuating that we were stupid for arriving after check-in, telling us a different time that check-in supposedly ended than either of the door's signs, and exaggerating the time we arrived by an extra two hours. I cannot stress enough how rude and insulting this man was. We were there for 3 nights and no one ever came to clean the room or change out towels. Plus there was no WiFi in our room so we had to hike to the hotel and sit on the ground outside the door when the lobby was locked.

Good studio apartment in Riomaggiori

We really enjoyed our stay here. We has a little studio apartment located in another building about 200m from the main office. It was surprisingly good - tidy bathroom, fairly new kitchenette and quite a bit of space. it was tucked down in one of the alleys between buildings so no sea views and a tight stairway to get there but Riomaggiori is built on a hillside so you have to expect to be climbing stairs.

The hotel was ok. I think the worst part was the lady who greeted us at reception. She was on the phone the entire time and was very short. It's a shame because the hotel itself was ok, probably 3 stars overall and the other man that was on reception later in the day was very very helpful, but it was a terrible first impression.

Lovely quiet getaway

We stayed in the apartment. It was absolutely lovely! When we got to Riomaggiore we found the town center from the train quite easily and started our trek up the hill. We found the hotel for check in and had an easy enough time trying to communicate without knowing Italian (bring a copy of your reservation if this is you too). Then the woman at the desk told us to follow her and proceeded to lead us all the way back down the hill to a private apartment on a dead-end alley (not as scary as it sounds). It was simple but clean and very quiet. Lovely big bed, living area with a couch, a kitchen with dining room and enough dishes/pots to at least boil up some pasta, and shower/bathroom (no soap provided so bring your own!) We were only a few steps from a gorgeous lookout over the sea and at night we could actually hear the waves hitting the cliffs. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend it to others!

We got the cheapest room (50 Euro) which is on the ground floor in the lobby next to the counter. Obviously it's not an ideal place for a room (no view), but we loved it! ... The room was soooooo clean with a very nice bathroom inside it ... If you want a fancy place with a view, this is not for you (or maybe you can get one of the rooms upstairs which have a view) ... but if you just want to relax after a day of walking and sightseeing and regain your energy, this is the ideal place for stretching your feet

Good location but is an old-fanished furnished appartment, not a hotel. However, the bed was uncomfortable and noisey. The TV was small and old, with a hanful of channels and was not viewable from the bed. Hotel refused to accept card payment but didn't say why. Cleaned the room before arrival but didn't change towel or check on us during two day stay. Perfect for couples wanting independence.

Great for what you need

you get what you pay for but for a budget stay in Riomaggiore it's hard to beat this. We did get a fully furnished apartment complete w/ fridge, oven, tv, couch, etc. Can't beat the location, we had a room w/ a view of the ocean so we loved it

Great location on the main strip of Riomaggiore, however the rooms are very basic, but clean. Check out Vervazza, better scene, as it's far more lively and picturesque. Riomaggiore felt like an Americana young adult resort, with all the pros and cons this encompasses!

Great Hotel, Great Value

Very good experience - our room was a 30 second walk across the street and up a small flight of stairs from the main building. This was great as it had it's own entrance, so felt like we were staying in a private apartment. The space was large with one main bedroom, one smaller bedroom, small balcony, sitting area, and full kitchen. Amenities are quite basic, but don't imagine you're going to Riomaggiore to spend a great deal of time in the room. Price was 70 Euro which I found to be a great value. Would stay again without hesitation.

We spent a week in Italy, and unfortunately only spent 2 nights in Lucca at Locanda Sant Agostino. It was the best part of our holiday. Giacomo was an excellent host and looked after us really well and was full of key local knowledge. The room was excellent, the garden view quaint, the terrace bliss in the afternoon heat and the breakfast fresh and tastful. Even the soap was amazing. I couldn't say a bad thing about the place, nor recommend it more highly. We will definitely be going back and encourage all to stay there. 2 thumbs up plus more.

They won't refund your money if you cancel

I booked this, then 2 months prior cancelled it. Hotels.com says it's booked thru someone else, and it's up to me to call them and get my money back. Needless to say, I'm out the cost of the reservation.

If there's any chance you need to cancel, don't book this one thru this site.

Very quiet during off season

When we arrived (~7pm), the owner/manager was leaving. She was very friendly. I think we were the only guests there and she can't stick around. She gave us the key and said, \"Just leave the key on the counter when you check out tomorrow.\" That's Cinque Terre in December. You have the place all to yourself.

It's fairly close to the train station but a tough walk uphill if you have luggage. Pharmacy, laundromat, marina and restaurants are very nearby.

No Problems

Hotel was relatively affordable, we only booked about 1.5 weeks in advance. Cinque Terre in general is amazing, so I don't think your accommodations matter too much. It's a big climb to the hotel from the train station and beaches and we had a lot of stairs to get up to room as well. We were there for hiking though, so that's ok!

Make sure you get a deluxe room

We got the \"economic\" room and regretted it. Make sure you get the deluxe room with the A/C and the location near the reception. Our room and bathroom felt constantly damp. The water was constantly running in our toilet. The hostess was incredibly friendly and she gave us free hot chocolate whenever we came to the reception area to use the wi-fi.

Nous sommes arrivés pendant la période assez restreinte du check-in, 2 heures seulement, mais il n’y avait personne à la réception. Il a fallu téléphoner pour obtenir des directives pour l’arrivée autonome. Sinon, agréable séjour.

À noter, chambres sans vue, adossée à une paroi rocheuse.

La chambre louée était conforme à la description. Les chambres sont anciennes et mériteraient un rafraîchissement, ça n’est pas au goût du jour. Pas d’accueil en réception mais visiblement c’est lié à la basse saison. Nous avons été complètement autonomes pour le check-in et le check-out.

La struttura si trova nella strada principale di Riomaggiore, facile da raggiungere dalla stazione ferroviaria.
La stanza è spaziosa; alla reception sono accoglienti, gentili e pronti a darti consigli.
il proprietario è molto corretto; segnala la presenza di media umidità dovuta a tutte le tipiche abitazioni del luogo che sorgono accanto al mare. L'umidità del mare non crea nessun fastidio al soggiorno.
Si consiglia di andare in treno.

Une chambre humide car fenêtre donnant sur la montagne à 50cm.
Lors du paiement la personne de service nous a signalé m/c carte bleue ne fonctionnait pas et fallait payer en liquide mais sans facture, donc sans preuve. Bizarre!!. Nous avons insisté et on a dit d'appeler la police mais elle a appelé le patron, et le patron est venu, et par magie il a branché et tout fonctionnait. Ce n'est pas normal et pas honnête pour nous client et hôtels.com. En partant ils rigolaient en nous voyant partir!!!!

Très bien situé dans riomaggiore, pas trop haut dans le village donc accessible à pied avec ses valises. Notre chambre situé à côté du lobby laissant entrer le bruit, mais il y avait d’autres chambres plus loin qui devait être mieux. Sinon, très propre, personnel accueillant et près à vous conseiller. Le séjour est payable en comptant à l’arrivée.

Accès très difficile, impossible de laisser la voiture dans le parking local, il faut donc la laisser a l'autre bout des 5 terres dans le parking de la gare puis refaire le trajet retour en train. L'hotel est correct mais mal insonorisé, notre chambre donne directement sur les rochers contre lequel est l'établissement...
La ville est très jolie et le cadre est bien sûr superbe, mais le séjour moyen.

The room was 2 meters far from the réception and the Window was on the street: really noisy so We were awake at 5am.
