This was a good property in a pretty safe area. There was confusion at check in with explaining the breakfast arrangements and as a result we did not take advantage of the INCLUDED breakfast. The 24 hr security was not always at the door and we were left standing outside late at night waiting to be let in longer than we were comfortable with.

I loved the deep tub. The private pool on private deck would have been over-the-top if it was a hot tub. But room was clean and the bedding was luxurious, notwithstanding, a Nespresso coffee maker in the room. But, better than in room coffee was the included breakfast of superior quality and selection. And I found just down the street a shopping center that met all my needs. I highly recommend.

Very disappointing. Not as advertised

This was definitely not 5 star as advertised or even 4 or 3 star! Please be warned. It is a cheap city centre hotel . Clean but unbelievably cramped room.
No one at reception when we arrived. The manager came out saying he was on a phone call and just gave us the key.
A dog was asleep in the corridor .
Photos of the room below show toilet and shower inside the bedroom with no privacy screen .
They advertise a spa which is literally a bed behind a sliding door behind reception . We asked if there was a bigger room but told by the assistant that none available .She smiled when we told her it was cramped ; hardly any light and a toilet and shower in full view of the bed! We also noticed signs all over saying Maintenance work being undertaken and a strong smell of paint or chemical of some sort in the air.
We were so disappointed we actually chose to leave and forfeit the expense. Unless you want a cheap budget hotel , do not book this place .
We trusted the star system given by hotels.com and this just was not correct. Very disappointing. How can this rate as 9.4?

Make sure you book the most expensive room!!

We were very excited for our stay in this “5 star hotel” and to have the luxurious experience that you do get at a 5 star hotel. But that bubble was quickly burst when we arrived, this is not even close to being a 5 star, maybe 10 years back, I think that is when last maintenance was done on the Hotel. The only okay part was the reception staff, came to the counter a couple of times to find the person sleeping on the couch because of very long shifts. The breakfast staff is not trained and don’t understand english so to get the right food on your plate was a challenge, the breakfast was decent to give a compliment. Make sure not to book a standard room as it will feel like you are sleeping in the broom closet.

Fab little boutique hotel. Very close to the V&A Waterfront area - we took Ubers most days for £2. Hotel staff were very friendly and helped us organise a tour to see the penguins at Boulders Beach. The room was very spacious, with a huge bed. We could have benefitted from more wardrobe space, but otherwise totally fantastic

Oncemore and George are very helpful and if you have any questions they are going to help as much as they can. The area is great to get to the start line of the Cape Town Marathon. Was not use to the no door for the toilet area in our bedroom. The staff is wonderful and I felt really safe.

Great Hotel

Sugar is a small hotel and the staff get to know you. They were very friendly. Someone was at the front door/desk 24/7. It is in a safe and quiet part of town, a $4 Uber ride to the Waterfront area. The breakfast was made to order and delicious. My room was small, however modern and very clean. They promptly responded to messages I sent them. I highly recommend staying at Sugar.

Really enjoyed my stay here. Nice location near the V&A waterfront. Front desk staff very friendly and they were there 24 hours. Breakfast included, I had a nice Avo Smash with Bacon and orange juice every morning. Room was very comfy and with a private outdoor pool, shame that I couldn’t use it due to the weather. The room was cleaned every day. Couldn’t have asked for more really, very good value.

Our stay was good but could have been better. Because breakfast is in the adjoining restaurant we were only allowed one drink and one menu item which was not our expectation. The room was not replenished each day and we had to ask for towels, coffee pods and water. The outside plunge pool had not been cleaned on our arrival and was quite dirty.

Beautiful Little Spot!

This hotel has fewer than 10 rooms, but somehow still manages to have a restaurant and a spa. Everything was beautiful, from the private pool attached to our room to the mountain view, and the price was shockingly good. Staff was very pleasant and there are 2 lovely dogs that live in reception. Would recommend, would stay again.

We had a pleasant stay, however the Monday we had to check out, the restaurant was closed (we had the bed and breakfast deal) Also, it would be a good addition to look into heated pools and perhaps an overhead cover for the patio, as when it was cold or raining, it wasn't pleasant to be on the patio. We are both smokers, so we needed to go out to the patio to smoke which was a bit uncomfortable due to the weather.

Safe 15-20 min walk or R26 to the waterfront, albeit hotel staff advised not walking when dark. Spacious bedroom and bathroom, albeit some of the bedroom furniture needs updating. Nice without being spectacular breakfast. Bad start at check in when they seemed to have lost our reservation. However after that, found the staff very friendly and helpful, and best of all they had 2 very friendly labs.

We stayed at this hotel during the height of the countries load-shedding (power issues) and quickly realized it was one of the only hotels in the area without a generator so the hotel was without power during peak times. When we tried to move they gave us a hard time about refunding us for our nights we were cancelling but eventually we did get our refund.

Also worth noting only certain rules have access to the pool, something we didn't know in advance.

The only strange thing was our bathroom was as big as our room and freezing cold (it’s winter) because there is only one small rack heater mounted on the wall, and that didn’t even heat up properly. I had the quickest hot shower in my life that morning!

A real gem!

This is a near 5-star hotel at a reasonable price. I booked one of the rooms with a patio and \"plunge pool\" (clearly weather dependent!). It was small but beautifully cared for by housekeeping staff. Nice bedding, but too many decorator pillows! My only issue was a noisy couple that came in late on the second night, staying in the adjoining patio room. It was a wonderful, warm night and they spent the middle of the night enjoying that patio - there is inadequate soundproofing between rooms for that level of fun, and none of the patrons are on the patio.
Otherwise - the restaurant and included breakfast were superb, especially on the deck. Room service excellent. Front desk staff very helpful.
Depending on your walking speed the waterfront is about a 15-20 minute walk. Be aware that you CANNOT cross all the road lanes except by walking down 2-3 blocks to a traffic light (fencing!). Then it's 4-5 blocks more, farther to the Aquarium. Check map. Very safe. $8 by taxi if it's raining! Try UBER if you have phone service.
I would return to this hotel without question! Oh - there are two extremely friendly yellow Lab 'greeters'. ;-)

The hotel has been recently renovated. The rooms, ad especially the bathrooms, are spacious, modern and very clean. The staff are very helpful and congenial. The hotel is in a relatively good location within a 5 minute walk of many restaurants and bars, and about a 20 minute walk to the waterfront. Definitely a 5-star boutique hotel.

Amazing stay at Sugar Hotel. The staff was just exceptional! Service was fabulous and friendly. Supermarket, restaurants and cafes are so convenient and it's less than 10 min walk to V&A waterfront , where all the main attractions are. The room is so comfy and large. Location is excellent. and walkable to waterfront. Breakfast is a la cart menu which included in the room price. You only pay service tips.

The only complain will be a plunk pool on a balcony is dirty. It has some garbage in the pool all 4 nights we stayed. That mean they didn’t clean the balcony.

Sugar Hotel was a very good experience with friendly staff, clean facilities and a number of useful amenities. Restaurant staff could do with a touch more professionalism and the room carpets were a little scruffy but otherwise everything else was great. One specific comment is that the pillows were (as per any other hotel I've stayed at) far to large. It would be great if hotels could cater to non-giraffes. I can happily recommend Sugar Hotel to others.

Great Value for Money

We got the huge room number 6 which was awesome. Very reasonably priced for a 5 star hotel and centrally situated to everything as well. The included breakfast was good and was large portions. Only slight annoyance was the parking which is actually next door at the Protea hotel but only a minor thing as it's a 30 second walk and really shouldn't be an issue if you're taxying. Would definatly stay again when in Cape Town.

Stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our holiday and were very impressed by the excellent staff, all of whom were very friendly and helpful.
Our room was a good size with a pleasant outside area but unfortunately due to the drought we couldn't use the plunge pool.
The breakfast was absolutely divine - from the super fresh orange juice to the beautifully presented main dishes all garnished with pretty coloured cress. My smashed avocado combined with a hint of chilli was absolutely delicious. If this is the standard of food served in the restaurant my only regret would be that we didn't have time to eat there.
Bear in mind that the hotel does not have a pool but is just a 10 minute walk from the waterfront and city centre.

You book a room and you expect to get the one requested,but instead they give it away to someone who walks in of the street..
The smaller room I received,double with plunge pool,(except Cape Town has no water and so no pool,which is why I chose superior king) was a nice little room with a balcony views on of wireless hill and morning sun to relax out in. Bathroom is perfect just like the rest of the room
The breakfast include was with the perfect little hip resturant downstairs,perfect for dinner and lunch as well..
Hotel is perfectly located with walking distance to waterfront and city centre..

Great boutique hotel in Green Point

This is a lovely boutique hotel with only 7 bedrooms. It is located in Green Point and is a 10 minute walk to the V&A Waterfront. There are restaurants and cafes close by. The service from the staff was exceptional and the rooms are lovely. The hotel is on a busy road but there is no road noise in the rooms at all. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Had a lovely stay at the Sugar Hotel. The staff are incredibly friendly, fast, and attentive. The hotel restaurant is also high quality and delicious. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. We had a couple of small issues with the wifi on day 1 but the staff kept us informed and the next day it was running just fine. We didn't get to use the hotel's spa services but the rooms themselves feel like a spa experience. The hotel is well located and we could take short cab rides to all sights/attractions.

Hotel in a great part of Cape Town

It was a smaller hotel with only 7 rooms, all newly renovated. Very secure location even though the area of Cape Town seemed fairly safe. The staff was very accommodating and friendly, always ensuring we had anything we needed and willing to assist with any inquiries. Rooms were very spacious with great décor. Very nice restaurant available in the hotel for meals and small spa room available for massages and relaxation. Staff even allowed us to leave a few small packages for convenience at the hotel after checkout while we were on a safari excursion. If rooms are available, highly suggest trying to book a room. You won't regret the stay! Great Value!

Staff are very helpful and always have a smile and greeting.
The rooms are clean and well stocked.
Breakfast came with room rental and you can choose any meal off the breakfast menu. I also chose to have lunch here on occasion and every meal has been top notch. I would for sure choose to stay here again if I visit Cape Town.
