Overall we enjoyed our time. We did find the ads for the hotel to be misleading in terms of expectations for the quality of the room and bathroom. The hotel liaising shows very nice, well decorated and updated rooms. We did feel that our room and bathroom were very dated and plain looking in comparison. Part of the ceiling in our bathroom if was flaking off. Wished it could have been closer to what we anticipated!

This is truly an undiscovered spot. Very quiet and great view of the city. If you Must have AC don’t stay here. They do have a ceiling fan and a floor fan for both bedrooms so it wasn’t bad even at temps in the 90’s. It’s about a 15 minute taxi ride to the city so it’s not bad and will cost you between $25 and $30 Euro. Make sure you have cash. It was very safe and a real treat. The menu for dinner was surprisingly good and was very affordable.

The couple that run this business are absolutely lovely! If you want breakfast it will be delivered to your room at the time of your choosing. It was great. The rooms are super clean and comfortable. Any questions, or directions, the owners are there to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We wanted a car to take us to Arezzo and they took care of that for us. Plus, you can't beat the location! This was a real find and we highly recommend it.

3 day stay.
Our room at the pensione was fairly large, a bit tired, with a wardrobe, nice bathroom, and a killer view of Florence. After we had checked into our room we realized the air conditioning was not working ( it was hot ). We advised reception and were told that half the air system was not working and that the next day we would be able to change rooms. It would have been nice if they had told us up front that the air wasn't working. The next day we changed rooms to a much smaller, dingy, tiny bathroom, nowhere to hang clothes, air conditioned, killer view, for the same price. The room was nowhere near the same quality as the first room. Supper that night at their restaurant was not good. It was a 4 course meal. The a la carte menu is not available on Mondays and Tuesday. One of the courses was soup, which we did not receive. The second was pasta which was ok. The main described as pork slices was in fact 4 paper thin slices of luncheon meat with slices of lettuce(no dressing) and beets. It was terrible. dessert was creme caramel which was OK. At 20 euros each we were very disappointed. We tried breakfast the next day to give it a chance but again we were disappointed. We did not go back again during our 3 day stay. We did notice on Wednesday the restaurant had plenty of customers. Does the real chef come and do the a la carte menu?

We enjoyed an arrival cappuccino and cake on the terrace while our rooms were finished—nearly four hours early. The concierge obtained dinner reservations at Terrazzo in Fiesole. We were delivered there in the free hotel shuttle and retrieved after an exquisite dinner under the stars. Pensione Benciste occupies a 15th century villa and boasts vintage furnishings, spacious airy rooms, and many leisure time rooms for reading, chess, music, or conversation. The grounds are planted with roses, lemons, apples, figs, herbs, and shaded by wisteria and jasmine, and surrounded by olive groves and Tuscan evergreens. From the terrace/bar, Florence, the Duomo, the Campanile and Baptistry, Santa Croce is visible. We were so enchanted by our rooms and the view, we relaxed, read, strolled, napped, and enjoyed this gem until dinner. The hotel staff was most gracious and accommodating.

The very helpful evening free shuttle to & from nearby restaurants a big plus too! Five Nights in Fiesole
We spent five happy days staying at Pensione Bencistà. We found the hotel to be a warm and welcoming place to stay. The staff were marvellous and the hotel itself a beautiful and restful haven above the city of Florence. The room was comfortable and homely and the public areas in Bencistà are lovely and beg to be used, which we gladly did. While the bus stops to Florence and Fiesole are a steep hike up the drive it is only a 5 minute hike and accomplished in a leisurely stroll while admiring the great views. The views from Bencistà are wonderful. Florence and the Duomo are clearly visible across the olive groves from your breakfast table. The breakfasts we had were fantastic - great variety and freshness and the kitchen staff were knowlegeable and cheerful. We highly recommend Bencistà. We'll be back.

We stayed here while attending a wedding in Fiesole. Setting is absolutely fantastic with views overlooking Florence. Easy bus transportation is only a short walk down the road and takes you to Piazza San Marco. Rooms are tight but comfortable and the staff was helpful. Free evening taxi is available to restaurants in Fiesole.

Cramped Room in Old Villa in Need of Upgrading
Pensione Bencista is an old villa in Fiesole in need of upgrading. Our room was small with a small window overlooking Firenze. The bed was average in terms of comfort and is in need of upgrading. The bathroom is tiny and barely accommodates one guest especially the shower. The receptionist who checked us in sat behind the desk, never rose to open the door for us nor offered to help us with our luggage. Breakfast is not included. A plus is the complimentary shuttle in the evening to dining establishments in the main square. Would I stay here again? No. Would I recommend it to others? No.

the city. A car is a must to get into the place and should be able to drive up and down the hill. You can see a Tuscan View while up on the hill.

The hotel is situated on a hill north of Florence, with great views and wonderful staff! Florence is a 20min bus ride away but you do have to go up a bit of a hill to get to the bus stop. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the rooms and grounds were very well kept. I wish Expedia would make it clear that breakfast is not included by booking online, but other than this surprise at check out, we had no other complaints.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a stay Pensione Bencista. The location is remote, yet convenient for travel to and from Florence. He views are stunning. We enjoyed a dinner one night and were very impressed with the food and service and satisfied with the portions. The staff were all kind and professional. We have stayed at Pensione Bencista on three occasions, which in itself gives our opinion of the Hotel. It is a wonderful experience, close to Florence but away from the hustle and bustle. To sit outside, under the wisteria vine with a drink, looking at the sun setting over Florence, the Duomo clearly visible, is truly memorable. We have recommended Bencista to many friends in Australia and no-one has been disappointed.

Old world charm
This property is a converted monastery with a killer view of the entire city. The rooms are a bit small and the bathtub/shower with no curtain is a bit of a challenge to master. Outdoor gardens and gazebos are around every corner for multiple opportunities to gaze out over the city. The layout of the property is quirky. I don't think I came close to discovering all the small, quiet little rooms and libraries. If you are trying to blitz tour the city the property is 30 minutes and about a $20-25 cab ride from city center. A city bus is about a 10 minute walk up a substantial hill but will get you to town efficiently and at a standard bus rate. The hotel has a prefixe dinner nightly which is very reasonable and excellent, featuring multiple courses. We enjoyed their wine selection too. The breakfast buffet is very tasty (tomato salsa) but with the fewest selections of any place we stayed. For the unhurried traveler, this is a perfect place to base an extended stay in the area. We saw no children while we were there. The overall ambience might not be a good fit for kids. This is a very nice hotel with superb views of Florence. The rooms throughout are quirky and interesting with lots of antique furniture. Staff members are very friendly and helpful. I recommend having dinner there (very tasty and good value). For this price range (100 euros) I would have expected a television in the room, air conditioning (not a noisy fan) and a range of toiletries. It was surprisingly basic in that respect.

The hotel is a very old building full of character with furnishings that match. It has a wonderful position on the hillside just below Fiesole with amazing views over Florence. Sitting on the terrace with a cold white wine in hand, looking down onto the dome of the Duomo and the towers and domes of the other large churches was only beaten by eating dinner out there as the sun set over the city. The dinner menu was very limited - two starters, no choice for the main course, a pie for pudding (or fresh fruit or cheese) - but the food was superb and everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. The hotel is family run and we were made really welcome. We had a country view room which was comfortable and cooled by a fan (very important as the day temperatures were nearly 40 degrees in Florence during our stay); the ensuite was small but the shower was spacious and the water hot. If we go back to Florence we will certainly stay here again; the city is easily accessible on the No 7 bus and you are well away from the all the hustle and bustle.

This place was magical. Everything about it was perfect. If you're looking for rustic relaxation, with a view of Florence and a touch of Tuscany, you can't beat it. Don't anticipate a luxury resort, but all of your needs will be met. Dinner bell rang at 730, and we all gathered in the dining room. Comfortable beds, clean rooms, stunning setting.

This place came highly recommended to us by someone who stays here regularly. This is a historic (1200 years old), family run hotel located above the City of Florence. The vista is amazing. Keeping in mind how old it is, we felt it is not aging gracefully, however, we appreciated the antique furniture, the bathrooms were very nice and beds comfortable. Recommend you contact them directly by email to ensure they put you in a room with a view of Florence. We requested an upgrade upon arrival because they put us in a room looking straight into a wall. At first they were going to charge us the difference in rate we paid (much discounted thanks to Hotels.com rate guarantee) and their full, posted rate - essentially doubling the rate. We were booked for 4 days here and ready to move elsewhere, the Manager negotiated a much fairer rate for the upgrade. We felt quite isolated here, 35 Euro taxi ride each way to Florence, however, a bus is close by - be aware the bus stop is uphill, very steep, narrow roadway difficult for anyone with mobility issues. We enjoy dining experiences. The hotel offers a set menu dinner for 20 Euros and is fine, we ate there two nights. We enjoyed our stay here but next time in Florence we will stay in the city, closer to museums and all the restaurants Florence has to offer.

Friendly family run historic pensione full of character with stunning views whichever way you look. Like stepping back in time, don't go here if you want a tv in your room-or even a tv lounge. There are comfortable lounges though with the odd board game and books to read-and of course the views. A dinner bell rings at 7.30pm, we had one evening meal-very little choice but the food was good and fresh. Likewise breakfast is a continental buffet, most people should find something they like. We loved staying here.

Our stay here was very special. The owners treat you like family, always smiling and accommodating. The hotel goes way back in history, and has been nicely renovated. Our room had a gorgeous view out to a hillside with a Tuscan villa and olive grove. And our dinner there was really special, with a phenomenal view of Florence and an orange sunset, several courses.

My daughter and I spent a relaxing week at this lovely hotel. Situated close to the town of Fiesole it is ideally placed to visit Florence, but be outside the city in Tuscan countryside. Travel to Florence is easy by a frequent bus, which is easy to use, and clean and reliable.
