The pool was pretty nice. The Personnel is the problem. Do not have a clean culture, nor a service culture, no towels in the pool area, the Hotel was dirty in the open areas, hallways.

Our room had a pretty bad mattress and no response to change it. We stayed 3 nights and no resolution. The Hotel Asset is pretty good, but the staff in front desk... always in their phones,and hanging around...

To begin with, the staff was very friendly at all times; however, the hotel's facilities are not well-maintained—there are many repairs with shoddy workmanship—and specifically in my room, I had to call maintenance twice due to issues in the bathroom, such as a lack of hot water and a clogged toilet and sink!

It was clean, comfy beds, but the hotel is old/dated and didn't always appear really clean. The whole lobby area was cold, no heat. And the heated pool wasn't very warm. Also the rooms hot water wasn't hot. Staff was helpful and the onsite restaurant was really good and good prices. They had pool tables which we enjoyed. Location was good for what we needed.

Well... if you're a fan of heat.. this is a hard pass. The thermostat in both rooms (our first room and the one they moved us to) did not work. I actually got a space heater from Home Depot to make it better during the couple of cold nights. Layout was actually pretty nifty. I'm sure it is hopping in the summer. Right next door to Worlds of Fun. Staff was pleasant and seemed to have a general interest in your stay imbetterment, but lacked the drive. This really could be a swell place. We dug the layout, we enjoyed the overall cleanliness... but you could tell management was masking a lot of old problems.

I generally stay at Wyndham hotels, a good value for the price, and have always had a very good experience. I had just come from a Drury hotel near the St. Louis airport because it was convenient for a one-night visit. And it was excellent.
So coming to the KC Wingate was a bit of a letdown. It's not bad, but a few things stand out. I arrived to a man smoking next to the front door, although a sign says \"no smoking within 50 feet\" of the door. Bad start. Then the setup is odd--you walk right into a \"wall\" that is the staircase to the second floor, and have to go around it to the desk. The desk staff was okay, though not especially upbeat. My last day a young woman--Amanda, maybe--was much better.
The main floor layout is interesting. Huge open area, with pool at one end and breakfast area/large bar at the other. Breakfast was decent, not exceptional. NO one ever used the bar, though I did watch a cricket match with some of the young guys who work at the hotel.
One thing I look for at a hotel is the fitness area. In this one my favorite machine--the stationary bike--was broken.
The room itself was fine. All the inside rooms surround the main floor and look down on it, a bit like many of the Hyatt hotels.
There places to eat within a short walk, fast food but quick and edible. It is close to the 395 freeway, and was only about 15 minutes to KCI. It is walkable to World of Fun amusement park, which was not open yet.
Not a bad experience, just...different.

Very bad area, bad parking lot. Mold in tub and ceiling, ceiling tiles were broken and barely holding on. Pool was awkwardly placed so didn't even want to use. Tried to pull the old trick of not giving my deposit back had to dispute with my bank. Will not be going back, and will not recommend.

The lobby was amazing. The pool was extremely cold and dirty. The hallway smelt like smoke and mildew clothes are spoiled milk. The hotel room was very dirty hair on the toilet and all in the tub. Sticky residue on the tables and counters. The breakfast food that was supposed to be cooked fresh was cold. Had to pay an additional $100 deposit and from the looks of things from the other reviews I won't be seeing my money. Everything was horrible

Jessica at front desk was amazing. If only all clerks were as amazing as her. Besides being very beautiful, she was professional, courteous, and cares about the guests. The housekeeping staff were polite and courteous as well. The rooms were clean, however, they need some tlc done to them by somebody that is proud of what they do. Not someone that does work like a slumlord would. Other than that it was great.

I was placed in a corner room, tucked away next to an emergency stairwell. I had to stay 10 days due to a work commitment which they were paying for. In the 10 days I was there, my room was “cleaned” once (and by cleaned I mean I placed my own trash in the housekeeper’s trash bag and she placed new towels on the counter in the bathroom. NOTHING was ever actually cleaned.
Room was clean enough, but anytime the heat or AC kicked on it smelled of cigarette smoke from the folks outside smoking. Hot water was hit or miss.

But the worst part was the “free breakfast.” I don’t expect 5-star food… but it was literally the same EXACT meal all 10 days. Cold sausage links, eggs, tater tots and sausage gravy w/biscuits. There was dry cereal (Rice Krispies, Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran) and a waffle maker… which is what I stuck to after the first day… after I noted that the gentleman who occasionally comes to check food quantity and stir the gravy was wearing his sanitary gloves while playing pool and using his phone and coming out of the restroom and then went directly to do his food duties. No thanks. Gross. Coffee and juices did not mix well either so I stuck to my own there too.

They do have a pool but the entire area is incredibly dark and most of the time it appears to be closed… although I did hear some kids splashing around.

The area itself seemed ok. I never felt unsafe, although I did often feel like my car was going to get hit or dinged from people flying in and out.

The staff felt it was more important to talk to each other than it was to focus on the customer who was standing in front of them -- talking in a foreign language that makes people feel uncomfortable. Also, the heater in the room did not work well, leaving the room very cold. The lobby area was freezing as well, leaving us miserable while trying to eat our breakfast. The hot items on the breakfast were also cold.

Do NOT stay here! Worst experience. Entire hotel was freezing, and run down. The breakfast was cold including the eggs and no clean silverware. The heat inside the room barely worked, when it would come on it was so loud it was hard to sleep. Chunks of ceiling was falling down. Water pressure was so bad you could hardly fill a cup of water let alone take a shower. Outlier broken, The toilet seat was broken. The pool was closed. And they charged our card twice for a deposit.
Worst hotel we’ve ever stayed at.
Positive note, hotels.com did help assist me in getting a refund.

The hotel lobby was absolutely freezing. It seems the heat wasn’t working. The room was also cold and the heat didn’t seem to work properly. There were not enough towels and when we asked for some, we were told there weren’t any. The walls are extremely thin and the people on the room next to us were very loud laughing and talking loud late into the night. The room was very basic.

The indoor pool was supposed to be heated, but when our grandson went to get in the pool, it was freezing, probably because the heat in the lobby wasn’t working.

I made and paid for reservations for next weekend at the same time I made the reservation for this weekend. There is no way we will stay in that hotel again.

I wish I could be refunded for my reservation for next weekend.

The plug-ins on the between the bed didn't work. The frig was shut off and had left over food in it, which made the frig stink. They didn't clean the room daily. We had to ask for clean towels and wash clothes each night and morning in which they were not happy that we wanted clean towels to shower with. One of the main lobby furnace was broken so they had all of them off. So it was freezing when you went downstairs for breakfast. And the pool was closed.

We had to change rooms 3 times. No hot water in first room. Next room hadn't been cleaned. Third room the heater made a terrible clunking noise and didn't blow any air. 4th room we stayed but the thermostat didn't work properly so the fan had to blow all night. The entry way smelled if weed. The lobby, pool area, and breakfast area were not heated so my kids couldn't use the pool as it was freezing. We had to wear our coats to breakfast which was just down the hall. Staff was kind as we requested a refund for the 2nd night as we were not staying another night.

First sight, the outside was unkept and trash everywhere. Cigarette butts all over the ground. They took a $100 room deposit. Quite steep for a hotel of this nature. The room was dirty. We stayed a total of 6 nights. The second day we had to ask for fresh towels. We got them from room service who happened to be on our floor. The front desk would not take care of the problem, they told my husband to come down to the desk and get them.
Our room was never tidied, trash removed, beds made etc. We asked 1 other time during our stay for clean towels from the staff in our hallway. These ladies were always very kind and helped us right away.

We ate breakfast one of the mornings we were there. It was so dark in the area that we, along with other travelers were having difficulty seeing to get food, work devices and get coffee. My husband took out his flashlight and assisted guests!

Needless to say, we will not ever stay at this hotel ever again and have passed the word to many of our traveling friends. We come to Kansas City often to see family and wee happy to find your hotel close to where they live. BUT we are sorely disappointed in our stay.

I had a terrible stay at this hotel. At check-in I asked about early check-in and was told no, but later saw it offered online for $30. My room smelled of smoke and mildew, the counters were dusty, beds looked used, TV was covered in smudges, no hand soap, and barely any toilet paper. Around 9:30 p.m. I heard children screaming, only to find staff’s kids running wild in the room across from mine—jumping on beds and banging on boxes until 10:30. The next morning I was woken by loud banging as staff set up breakfast. The breakfast itself was poorly done—items unlabeled, gravy in a crockpot, and staff couldn’t even get the waffle maker to work.
Throughout my stay, the hotel felt chaotic and unprofessional. The hallways smelled like weed, doors were slamming, and in the lobby I had to walk past a loud argument while staff sat by. The indoor pool didn’t seem operational.
Overall, this hotel was dirty, noisy, and unsafe. I would not recommend it to anyone—especially families or business travelers. If you’re looking for a rundown, hole-in-the-wall motel, this is it. Otherwise, avoid at all costs.

This hotel is dirty throughout. Our first room appeared to have dog poop tracked around the floor, and the second was just dirty. We booked because it had a pool and wasn’t informed that the pool was drained until after check in and then they wouldn’t refund because we already checked in. They allow dogs and there was one that started barking around 5 and didn’t stop. Don’t be fooled by photos- it’s not clean and I would not recommend staying here.

DONT BOOK! The photos are not accurate to how our room looked. Those photos were probably from when the rooms were first remodeled. Now everything is run down. Our room had water damaged ceilings, the wallpaper was peeling, none of the surfaces were clean, and everything had like a layer of dust or grime on it. The window in our room wouldn't close all the way. So bugs would be flying in. The bedding had pee stains. The entire bottom of the bath curtain was covered in mildew and the bathroom in general just wasn't very clean. The staff working there just seemed like we were imposing on them or interrupting them for anything including just checking in. Even the custodial staff seemed like we were imposing on them when they needed to come clean the room because it was nasty.They did come and \"fix\" some issues: they came and cleaned the floors and changed out the shower curtain and the sheets. The cleaning supplies the staff were using are just bad. From what I saw they were doing what the could with what they have, but it is very bad. I don't know how they expect the staff to maintain the already falling apart rooms. I didn't even bother to go down for breakfast because I just didn't think the food would be safe to eat based on everything else I saw. The one thing that was all right was the pool. The water was cold but clean. You could tell the pool had recently been updated as well, so it was in decent shape. I would have went somewhere else but the room's are not refundable.

Everything was closed...the bar, the pool for a portion of my stay...my new name for this place is the \"catfish\" hotel...what you see is definitely NOT what you get!

The hotel concept was nice, but the facility was not well kept. Rooms were dirty, sheets needed to be changed due to stains and air didn’t function week.

Hospitality was awful. Arrived when I said I was going to on an online check in, then told I was already checked in and finding a guest already in bed and their dog barking at us in defense of our key OPENING the door in fear. We then went to the desk and was given a rude response then accused us of already checking in and we were “wrong”. Assigned a new room and it was LOUD. Wasn’t compensated for stay even after the issues at 11:45pm and was told to FOLLOW the front desk lady to the room we were originally assigned to confront the unknown customer in the room. Dangerous and unprofessional, awful.

We were only given four towels for 7 people in two rooms (2 towels per room). No pool towels. Shower in one room flooded the bathroom. Other shower/tub and sink in second room didn’t drain well at all. Lots of standing water. Only given new towels when you hand them your dirty ones. Trash never collected in four day stay. Toilet clogged in one room, called front desk and was told to come and get a plunger. Breakfast did not look appetizing at all. Gravy in a crockpot with other foods crusted to the side of said crockpot. Very dark in breakfast area. Only small overhead lighting. Air conditions very loud. Floors in rooms not cleaned. All of our socks turned black on the bottoms after only being there for a few hours.

It was not worth $315 dollars a night. Very dirty breakfast was cold Workers do not have any customer service at all. Would not recommend it to anyone

The whole building was hot, it was 90° in my room took a long time to cool off. We just left.

The room was dirty, old food stains on the headboard, bathroom toliet was broke, and shower faucet was broke. Counters and carpet were dirty. Pool was freezing and there were no towels to use.
