Door to room was warped and hard to open. Made loud noise when opening or closing.
Room not cleaned, serviced the first day. No bath soap in shower. Was nicely cleaned second day.
Key card didnt work when we returned to our room in the evening the first nite. Had to go to lobby and reprogram the key to enter.

I did not expect the rooms to be conjoining rooms (could hear the person next door use the restroom) and there were bed bugs. I found a bed bug after I had woken up from my sleep and I got three bites on my wrist, two on my neck and two on my legs.

Overall felt very unsafe and gross. No amount of bleach would make it feel comfortable. There were terrible stains splattered on the only chair in the room. The only blankets in the room were incredibly thin and the shower looked like it was falling apart.

Overall nice experience. The small things to improve, the bathroom door wouldn’t stay closed, grout or caulk on the tiles was crumbling, a lightbulb was out and the curtain was ripped. The room was clean, the staff was friendly and parking was safe, I liked the location for getting around Monterey.

The front desk staff seemed bothered when I arrived, and check-in was very straightforward. The main issues arose once we entered the room. We immediately noticed that the smoke/fire alarm was hanging from the ceiling by its wires. Additionally, electrical boxes were exposed at ground level and not secured behind furniture, which was especially concerning with a curious 3-year-old. The room itself was dirty, and when my son found Ritz crackers on the floor between the nightstand and the bed and attempted to eat them, that was the final straw. I took my family back to the car and requested a refund. I would not recommend this place and instead suggest Hotel Abrego down the road.

I had high hopes for this place. The pictures make it look a little nicer than it is. Our room had a missing towel bar which was located in the closet. And there was a barn door for the bathroom that was not set up properly, so it was completely stuck and unable to open and close easily. The comforter which was white had a black stain on it. The young woman at the front desk seemed more interested in her phone & if she wasn’t behind the counter you wouldn’t know she worked there since she was dressed super casually with no visible identification. I wouldn’t stay there again.

Varias veces me había quedado en el hotel y no había tenido ningún tipo de problema, pero ayer tuve una experiencia terrible me entregaron una habitación que no había sido limpiada no tenía papel de baño, no tenía vasos ni bolsas no tenía toallas. Bathroom was dirty, hairs everywhere, only almost finished toilet paper roll, called front desk to ask for more they stated we needed to wait until next morning 8am. We arrived late at night so that was inconvenient for us.
Location is in a great area it sucks it was not clean. House keeping didn’t take out trash the following day so we had a pile of trash for the 2 days.

The bed was very comfy. Only issue was the bed frame bars are longer than the bed. I kept hitting them with my feet when I got up every time. Needs to be fixed. Also 9 am is very early to be knocking on the door to ask if we need service. Probably should wait till 10am or even call.

We came into this new view from afar. We got into the hotel. We felt very unsafe and unsettling. random people walking around in the back of the hotel. The room had sliding glass doors where anybody can access them at anytime. We ended up leaving and not enjoying the stay going into 2 hours of just staying there. The housekeeping staffing was still cleaning our room which it was not ready at all.

Parking and the shopping around the property were excellent. The property itself was another story. Room was filthy and looked like basic minimal cleaning took place. Looked like health code violations everywhere. Stains on walls, broken outlets, dirty floors, hairs in tub but the fridge worked.

Our stay was just ok however the Front Desk guy was very nice.
When we entered the room it smelled of VERY STRONG cleaning! My husband went to the window to opened it to get some fresh air and the window had SO much water inside! Not a good start to our getaway. Also, the room didn’t have a hairdryer??? Since when doesn’t a hotel provide a hairdryer? The hotel ambiance was just ok. Bring a hairdryer.

On the outside the property looked old, but fine. Bed was fine. In room there were cracked tiles and chipped paint, damaged door. Some repairs appeared to be attempted but clearly not by a professional. Amenities advertised not available. Hot tub was disgusting… filled with mud and leaves. No coffee pot in room. Neither phone, TV, nor heater worked in the room. Had 3 nights booked, left after 1.

Staff checked someone else into my room because they had a \"similar\" name, so when I went to check in my reservation could not be found. Isn't this why they're supposed to check for ID's? After a 6 hour drive I did not want to have to deal with this because the staff couldn't take an extra 30 secinds to actually READ! I booked 2 queen beds, and the room given to use because of the mixup was 2 full, making the stay cramped. The bathroom sink wouldnt drain, and the tub had a gunk in it even before use. Shower fittings were pulling away from the walls. While cheap, I definitely will look for other places to book in Monterey.

The property is in need of an update - a renovation. Finishes and fixtures are showing age. Cleanliness is OK, but there were cobwebs on the window sill. Doors do not close properly. Showerhead should be replaced.

This photo is of the restaurant that closed five years ago.

Location is very good for access to Carmel, PB and Monterey.

Cons: Had to park in the front, Our room was in the back of the hotel and it was so dark. The room was ok I think it needed a deep cleaning such as dusting and wiping down furniture. The fridge did not produce cold temperatures it was warm.(they did offer us to switch rooms, but we already unpacked)

Pros: quiet area, things to do near by, was willing to solve by switching rooms, heater worked very well.

First off the staff was very friendly and helpful. Which was awesome.
Although room left me disappointed and a bit groused out. The Sofa had lots of visible stains. Curtain was ill fitting and falling off its track. Dust and trash in-between bed and end tables. Bathroom was clean and with new towels. Doors are heavy and loud when opening and closing at times I would hear others doors and it can be startling.

Room was very dirty. So gross. There was writing on mirrors and who knows what was splattered on the tv. Had to mess with the TV to get it to work. Looked like the cable was being stolen cause the TV brand emblem stayed shaded in the background the whole time. Horrible. Front desk was nice. I would have insisted on a refund if we hadn't been there for a funeral and we were leaving the next day. I read past reviews when I booked trip, but I think other's idea on \"clean\" is different from ours. I don't mind older hotels as long as they are clean...and this one is NOT. Will never stay here again.

My experience at this property was extremely disappointing. The room was poorly maintained, and the overall cleanliness was unacceptable — there was even mold in the coffee machine. The bathroom was not clean, and the environment felt unsafe.

Additionally, no complimentary water was provided, and the nearby gas station was charging $20 for a single bottle of water. The “breakfast” advertised was misleading — it consisted only of dirty coffee and a few pastries, which was far from what was promised.

This establishment should not be classified as a three-star hotel. I strongly advise future guests to avoid this place, as the quality of service and facilities was far below expectations.

We stayed at Red Lion Hotel in Monterey one night. It is located close to freeway exit and convenient. Although a photo of a restaurant in the hotel is shown on the website, it has not been open since Covid. However, there is a shopping mall right next to the hotel where there are great restaurants. Also, there is Whole Foods right there where you can get nice meal to go. We stayed with our dog (additional $30/dog per night) in a dog-friendly room. The room was larger than we thought, and the bed was comfortable for all of us.

Beds in 1st room were very uncomfortable. The springs in the mattress springs dug into your back. Changed rooms and the next room were a little better but could not sleep for more that 3 hrs at a time and woke up with sore backs. The showers did not work properly. We stayed 3 nites and the coffee pods were not replaced in the room. This hotel is in a great location but will not stay here again.

I only have 2 complaints. On multiple occasions was there not hot water for a shower. The complaint was with the general attitude of the night manager just not someone i would personally have helping guests. Beyond that it was lovely and the experience i recieved during the day was stellar. MIguel ( day manager ) deserves a special shout out. He was fantastic and delivered way above par service.

Parking was free, but as an old hotel, not much could attract guests. This hotel has free breakfast, but no one knows it. Even the staff in the front desk haven’t mentioned. The overall for this hotel I rated at middle level. But the price is excellent! Thank you for your attention !

All the staff were excellent. This hotel has not been updated in a long time so it is in disrepair. The hot tub is emptied and corded off the pool tiles are badly chipped. The front of it is a gas station where there are several homeless people who loiter. When we arrived there were three cars in the parking lot that appeared to be homeless people cleaning out their things, but they were gone by that evening. The corners in the room were dusty with debris. The furniture was all chipped and very old. I’m sure the cleaning staff were doing their best with what they had. Our window wouldn’t open because it was broken. There was a plastic bag over the fire detector and somebody had clearly been smoking in this non smoking room before us.
