This is one of our first choices to stay in Monterey Bay. Always a great time and we look forward to returning again and again. Location is perfect for wildlife viewing (nesting cormorants, pigeon guillemots, pelicans, otters, sea lions, gulls, etc) and close access to water sports such as scuba diving, fishing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. The complimentary, delivered to room, breakfast was nice for those of us who just want to take in all the beauty outside our bay view balcony. (Even as I write this I want to be there.) Staff was welcoming, attentive, and professional. Highly recommend.

The view was amazing but the room itself was just ok. When we first arrived to our room, the towels were dirty with yellow stains. For the price we paid, you'd expect the towels to at least not have stains. As for the free breakfast, it's not really ideal if you're going to be out all day without anywhere to eat around you. Don't expect eggs and bacon or anything like that. They provide a yogurt, hard boiled egg, and a cold croissant with an orange juice. Again, the view is amazing, but everything else could've been better for the price.

Loved my stay here! Room was very clean and roomy - especially loved the big bathroom. The hotel itself is a bit dated but always clean & staff super helpful. The daily breakfast to the room was so nice - wish more hotels did this! Bed was comfortable as well! Only thing to note - my room didn’t have AC (but they provided a fan!) but if you’re a cold sleeper like me, keep that in mind! Would absolutely stay here again.

Ok so I’ll start out with the positives…..I mean who can beat the view looking out at the water! We had an ocean view room with a balcony. It was just beautiful, though pretty chilly with the breeze at times. Also, the free continental breakfast delivered to your room was amazing. It was just enough food, and it’s delivered at the time you want.
But not having air-conditioning or some type of ceiling fan in the room made it warm and stuffy and difficult to sleep. Yes it was 61° outside and we tried to sleep with the screen door open, but kept waking up to the smell of marijuana, so clearly someone was smoking on their balcony. Our bathroom had drain stoppers that wouldn’t work so we just took them out. The faucet was leaking. The robes are a great touch although one of them was so stained and discolored. The room was just dated and needed some work.
It also didn’t start out very good after calling to see if we could check in a little early, we were told no, it couldn’t be til 4pm. Arrived promptly at 4 PM stood in line for 25 minutes on a Sunday, which is just not acceptable after traveling all day. Obviously they need someone else working? It was just an ok stay with a gorgeous view.

The room was soooo clean when we arrived, the bring up breakfast at your desired time you can even choose what you want from a form they have you hang on the door! The views were amazing we got the harbor view and waking up to the sound of seals and ocean waves was soothing and relaxing, the walk to cannery row and the aquarium is so quick too and it’s not even hot so stretch your legs and walk everywhere we did and we loved everything we were able to find and see!! There’s also tons of classic cars the start their cruise down cannery row right outside the hotel!
we’ll be back for our next vacation out here for sure thank you for your amazing hospitality and kindness all hotel staff!!

Did hear neighbors talking at times through closed connecting doors. Private balcony. Standard amenities. Continental breakfast provided via room delivery, no buffet options. Very slow elevator service to 2nd floor, preferred stairs.

What I love most about staying at the Monterey Bay Inn is the ocean/harbor view. Chances are, if you are staying in the Monterey Bay area, it's for the area - not to sit inside the hotel. I have stayed there several times over the years. The rooms are well-kept. Bathrooms are very nice and great water/shower pressure. The little deck is perfect to sit out in the sunshine, inhale the ocean air and listen to the harbor seals play. So many cute sea otters too! The staff is always fantastic. The continental breakfast continues to be a nice touch. In honesty, the building itself is old and the elevator may sound a little clunky, but if you are on vacay you should be out and about anyways. :)

The staff were excellent. The first room we were given was near some construction going on and we were concerned it might be noisy. We were promptly moved to a different room that turned out to be perfect. Lovely bay views, quiet and clean. The breakfast delivered to the room each day was delicious. We will be back!

We loved our room- quite spacious and the bathroom as well- double sinks! We also loved the balcony and being able to have coffee out there in the morning as we listened to the sea lions and enjoyed the fresh air. The complimentary breakfast was also lovely- enabled us to have a leisurely morning routine.
It's the perfect area if you like to walk to things, local restaurants, etc...

The rooms are clean and spacious. Check-in is at 4 pm, which seems quite late. There is no gym. Breakfast is ok and you are done eating the same thing by day 3. However, most of the hotels in the area do not offer breakfast, so this is still a plus.
The staff is pleasant, fast, and helpful. The Oceanview room was great.

Although the hotel is outdated, the hotel room is clean, spacious, has good size bathroom, and comfortable bed. We slept like a baby. The oceanfront view was spot on. Friendly staff. The property is walking distance to the harbor, Cannery Row, to shops, restaurants, and easy access to freeway. We will come back Monterey Bay Inn. Thanks for the great weekend.

Needs Improvement! The hot tubs were tired, circa 80s 4 person style. One had no view at all. The other was windy, covered in bird droppings and unusable if anyone else was in it. That about sums up the property. Tired and old. Wood walls and ceilings meant you heard every sound from neighbors. Wood slat blinds didn’t keep out 5am light. No AirCon. A difficult, non-streaming TV. The breakfast delivered to the room was nice. Parking was adequate. Location was walkable, but the highlight of the town is the aquarium and it’s 6 blocks away. The aquarium is a gem, but Cannery row was a major disappointment. Low end food and tourist trap shops you can find in any tourist town. Carmel is a much better experience. We wish we had booked there instead. Next time, we will.

Furniture and decor is old. It has seen a lot of use. Be aware that there is no air-conditioning at this hotel and the room has a fan in it. The fans also have seen a lot of use and may not work 100%. Also, this hotel sits at the end of Cannery Row where there are quite a few cars and people going by. That can create a noise issue late at night occasionally. Overall, I would say it’s too expensive for what you get.

This inn was beyond our expectations—so clean, attractive and comfortable. We had a room overlooking the small adjacent beach park as well as a view of the bay. We loved sitting out on our balcony and listening to the sea lions bark! The staff was so lovely and helpful, and the room itself was filled with nice amenities, including a coffee nook. Absolutely loved it! And we have decided to come back as often as we are able. One of the real advantages of this hotel is that it’s near everything – Canary wharf, restaurants, shops, etc. And every stop along the street has an amazing view. We can’t recommend this inn enough! Note: If possible, try to get a room on the top floor. This will ensure that you have a good view, and that there are no footsteps above you.

Found a bottle of champagne and chocolate in our room in honor of our anniversary. Yer, the front counter employee was very friendly and helpful with recommendations on where to eat. The hot tub overlooking the harbor was enjoyable, albeit pretty small. The second floor hot tub felt like a lukewarm bath so we stuck to the 4th floor hot tub. The bed was comfortable. Daily complimentary water bottles were appreciated.

My husband and I drove the coast of California from Paso Robles to stay here in Monterey. After a long day of driving, we were thrilled to enter the building and hear they have upgraded us to partial ocean view. We sat on the balcony and enjoyed a relaxing view before dinner. It is centrally located near lot of activities, cafés, beaches, and more! I would like to also give a special shout out to Stacy at the front desk, who was so kind and greeted us and gave us food recommendations and things to do in the area. I would give this a five star review.

The highlight was the proximity to the ocean—we appreciated being able to hear the calming sound of the waves while sleeping. However, the continental breakfast was disappointing, offering only a hard-boiled egg, yogurt, and a single slice of each fruit. Based on this experience, we would not consider returning.

Dated hotel with some updates; staff are amazing! There is no restaurant or bar at this property; breakfast is a very limited selection that is delivered to your door in the morning on a tray (think very light continental). It's an old property, the rooms are quite large. Mine faced the bay, I got to sleep with the sound of the waves breaking on the beach via slightly opened sliding glass door to my balcony. Heat/cooling wasn't easy to figure out, the in-wall heater wasn't plugged in or working. Other comments about parking spaces being extremely tight are correct. It's at the end of Cannery Row so you're a bit away from the bustle. Staff were extemely helpful in choosing a \"locals pick\" for dinner on Municipal Warf 2. It's okay to stay and sleep there, but not many amentities to make it a vacation property that stands out. Cheaper than some and on the bay, so that's the plus.

Excellent stay, would choose this place again! Location is pretty great, even being on one end of Cannery Row. Only a short walk to anywhere on the row and aquarium. Even the old wharf is only about a 10 minute walk.

We chose a room with an oceanfront balcony, which had the bay right below you and was pretty private. However. If you choose the harbor ocean view balcony room, you'll probably get one of the rooms facing south, which will still get you a view of the ocean, but of the pier and park also, and is not private at all.

The nice thing about the balcony is you can sleep with the door wide open all night and listen to the ocean waves. However, the sea lions and seagulls were actually much louder than the waves were and constant! Other neighbors also left their balcony doors open all night, we could hear other people's conversations pretty easily, but maybe they were just loud talkers. We still very much enjoyed the room and spent a lot of time out on the balcony.

A breakfast tray was brought to our room every morning with quite a few choices. We had fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, coffee, tea, juice for two and it was the perfect amount and start to the morning. All of the hotel staff we encountered were very nice and friendly.

The only downside to the room was the 1-ply TP and the very low flow shower head. Having a parking garage space was nice, about $28 a day.

Would definitely come back! Hopefully next time, we will score a higher floor balcony room!!

It’s about the view and location with this one. Sitting on the patio overlooking the water was definite highlight. This hotel is quite dated as others have said, and in many cases is quite rundown. Our room had a musty smell to it. The bathroom is sizable with lots of full length mirrors. It’s very nice that they deliver breakfast which is quite basic, but we appreciated that the fruit was very fresh. It was is super easy to walk everywhere in Monterey.

We booked the oceanfront suite and the view was amazing. We saw otters, birds and sea lions. Hearing the waves crashing below the building sounded cool. Would definitely stay here again. Parking is below the building and can be a little tight, but it was easy to get in and out.

There was no A/C and the room was hot and stuffy upon arrival. I was disappointed in the general building maintenance. Carpets were dirty. The front desk staff made a point to mention it was a no-smoking property; however guests were smoking pot in the garage. You can't have it both ways! I think it was overpriced for the actual accommodation.

I had a really enjoyable stay at the Monterey Bay Inn.

First, the ocean view is absolutely amazing — waking up to the sound of the waves, seagulls, and sea lions was such a peaceful experience. One of my favorite touches was the complimentary breakfast delivered right to the room every morning. It felt like a little luxury that made the stay extra special.

The location is perfect. It’s just steps away from Cannery Row, with easy access to shopping, dining, scenic walking trails, bike paths, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

The room itself was spacious, especially the bathroom with two sinks, and I loved that the bed was positioned facing the ocean view.

There are a few things to keep in mind. Parking is $25 per night. The rooftop hot tubs (which overlook the ocean) are beautiful but small — they only fit about four people, and they were always full when I tried to use them. I ended up using the second-floor hot tub, which doesn’t have a view, and still had to wait about 20 minutes for space.

You can tell the building has been there a long time, though some upgrades have been made. The elevator made a loud noise every time it closed, and the hallway on the 3rd and 4th floors felt slightly sloped in the middle.

the front desk staff were very kind and accommodating — they even allowed us to keep our car parked until 4pm after checkout, which was really helpful.

Overall, despite a few minor inconveniences, I would definitely stay here again for the views and location

Room 103 is a cannery row room but also oceanside balcony. So if looking for a ocean view cheaper, ask for that room.

Beautiful view!!! Everything was fantastic. Although there is one very bad thing about this property. Very thin walls you can hear people walking in the room above you and doors closing.

We had a king harbor view. The view was beautiful. We were on floor 2 and could hear the people above us, but had a sound machine we brought with us so it wasn't too bad. First breakfast the coffee was luke warm, \"pastry\" was a dry croissant, it was ok. Second day, fruit was much better and coffee was hot. It was hard to get in the hot tub, even later at night. Overall, a good stay.
