On the positive side it was quiet and centrally located. It was lacking in that the room was small, there was no a/c, no parking, we couldn’t open the window, there were no bedside tables, there was rarely anyone at the front desk, and the gym was not on site. Overall, it was okay but not great value for the money.

Really nice room and very clean. I think the website needs to take down that they have parking because you don't. When asked, he said they don't use the parking garage anymore and you park out front. However, you have to pay up to $40 a day for that. We were there for 6 days so do the math.

Have stayed at the Ibis on three occassions. It's clean, comfortable and conveniently located. On one occassion the room was very small and cramped. Room heaters are the hot water type, and gave problems on two occassions (and as I only returned to the room at night, this could not be addressed until the next day, and as no portable heaters were available, it was a cold and uncomfortable stay). Staff were friendly and helpful. Prices varied considerably depending on demand and often doesn't represent value for money.

Very disappointed that they confirmed availability of 2 x 1 bedroom apartments but on arrival it was fully booked. Rather than the booked apartment we were provided with a terrible 2 bedroom room which we think may have been a hostel room. Ended up with a very small studio instead.

Thansk for the stay - I would rate it ok

I would return, however the parking could be made easier. Parking is free after 4:30 pm but not prior , so when I arrived at 2:30 I paid on the street for a few hours, but as I had to work - in the evening by the time I returned the reception was closed and therefore I could get into the parking for the duration of my stay.

I don’t recall the listing but the walls are also not soundproof.

The location was perfect and it was a comfortable bed for my 1 night stay.

It was very central located, parked right out the front for whole stay and car was safe. Bed was comfy shower, was great. The staff were friendly I checked in after reception was closed and using the phone in the lobby made instant contact with staff who came to reception immeadiealty. I was happy there was crockery in the room as i got take away for dinner. the room was clean and I slept sound was there on a Friday night. I would stay again.

Great beds. Served our purpose of wanting 3 double rooms. It was clean and staff polite and friendly. Downs, it smells weird and not go weird. We faced Tay street it’s noisy as hell. Very little sleep. Broken taped window. Just fix it! Multiple other small slightly annoying issues. We looked on the bright side of great location and great beds and great size bedrooms. Doubt we will be returning

Advertised that had airconditioning in room, totally false, had a free standing unit that didn't distribute cool air, absolute junk.
We weren't told until we arrived that if we wanted to park in the hotel car park it would cost another $10.00 per night, and absolute rip off!.
The access from the car park into the hotel is a maze of doors and requires you to travel through the service area of the hotel.
The room windows were cracked and thr frames were rusty, windows had wire mesh imbeded in them, similar to a jail cell.
We wouldn't stay in this hotel again.

The staff were helpful and polite. The location is near to a number of pubs and cafes and a mall with a movie theater. It's very accessible, right on the main street but not noisy. And if you're going to Bluff to catch the ferry to Stewart Island it's only 28km!

They are renovating, but rooms should be checked before use. Missing towels, bins on tables, toilet bush on toilet, towel in sink, hair in sink and on towel. Add that to no parking and I was not impressed. The shared kitchen is a bit of a joke - spoit for choice - 3 hobs with 4 switches to turn them on, 2 ovens with 4 switches. Which of the 12 hot plates will you use with the 2 burnt saucepans provided? Which oven will you put the 1 oven tray in?

The front reception lady, was so rude, not helpful, didn’t even bother to get off her chair. The room 2 bedroom apartment, was run down, dirty chairs, drapes falling down, not even a toaster in the room. Would not recommend this place to anyone. The worst place we have ever stayed.

The cleaning girls are amazing and friendly how ever the person (kate)on reception was not helpfull at all just wanted our money never saw her smile once put my sister and her partner in the smallest room in the hotel so i swapped with them they are in their 70 s fan in bathroom was not working asked for a mattress topper there was none over all very disappointed will not go back certainly would not recommend

I wasnt a fan of the Tv in the lounge area and not in the bedroom. Had no remote for the tv so had to ring down for one...twice! First remote was a different brand and not compatible with the tv in our room. The shower was tiny and the shower head etc fell apart when trying to adjust it..we were able to fix it up but most likely do it again as the screws were into nothing. Parking for one night not offered so told to park on street..possibility of getting a parking ticket. Plus though was the bed was so comfortable best yet!

The hotel was clean on the first night until someone drinking threw up in the lift and on the floor on the first level. This remaind until checkout on Sunday. Noisy drunks came in both nights but as there is nobody on duty, there was a lot of noise in the early hours.

A sour experience.

The stay started OK, but once we got to the room it deteriorated quickly. 2 of the towels provided had a terrible smell of vomit. Although they looked clean, the smell was overpowering. On receiving replacements from reception, as housekeeping had finished for the day, we were told just to leave the old ones outside the door. I considered that to be a health hazzard. The room itself was spacious and the beds comfortable. Reasonably well equipped.

This is essentially student accommodation, not a hotel. We even had to retreat to one of the bedrooms to watch tv as there was no tv or power points to plug a laptop into in the lounge.
The lady at reception on Sunday was unfriendly, bordering on rude. The room was extremely run down with a curtain hanging off its runner, cracked window in the lounge and cobwebs all over the window. That said, the room was otherwise clean and was serviced after our first night.
The linen was clean, the beds were ok and the shower was hot.

My wife and I are 74 and 76. We have travelled overseas on many occasions. We travel around New Zealand. This was the worst experience of a check in in memory. The front door was locked. We had to wait for someone to open it. The receptionist was behind a fixed grill and with a mask, very difficult to understand. We were directed to a carpark on another street which resembled a cramped bunker. Then negotiated a maze to the lift The whole experience was unbelievable. It is difficult to conceive of a more negative and unwelcome check in.Never again.

It’s noisy, tired, they’ll charge you extra for parking, and to use the pool table in the games room. You’ll also need to scrub the plates before you use them. On Christmas Eve, the bored Invercargill teens drove down the street outside until about 2am and the single glazed windows meant you heard every vehicle. ‘Twas the night before Christmas … and I got little sleep so this wasn’t a festive experience!

There was no air conditioning except for an old evaporative tower cooler, and only a very small window for fresh air to come in.

The whole room felt like a sauna and my only recourse was to soak some towels in water and sleep under them.

I'd say that you get what you pay for, but this place actually cost $20 more than the Hilton in Queenstown did just a few days prior.

Besides that, the bed was fairly comfortable and the staff pleasant to deal with.

But nothing could make up for the extremely hot and uncomfortable night I spent here. Not recommended.

Toilet wouldn’t stop flushing no matter how many times I tried to stop it. I phoned reception and was told they would look at it the following day. No offer of changing my room and I slept very badly as the bathroom backs onto bedroom.

Fantastic location, excellent beds, hotel was quiet the weekend we stayed. On street parking is free 6p-9a and all day Sunday, so we didn't use the paid parking. We had a 2br corner apt, and the bedroom on the corner was very cold even by upper Midwest camping standards. The heating system was probably working overtime on a fairly cold weekend, but a space heater wouldn't have gone unused (we rang the front desk but they don't have extra heaters). Kmart is about a block away, so one could add bonus heating for about $30 if needed. Our apartment was clean and perfectly fine for us, we spent most of the weekend at gemstone beach, Riverton, and out around town. If you like spend all day in the hotel this may get a bit cozy for a group of 4. Nice comfy beds in both rooms, most important thing in a hotel after the price, in my view. As always in NZ, not a lot of hotel for the price, but that's just the way it is. The Ibis Styles will probably be a top option next time we visit Invercargill, so I guess that's the ultimate measure of a good stay.

Shocking experience

Not a great experience. We stayed in an apartment that was really a room. There was no where to sit, no chairs at all. Just 2 rooms with beds and a small kitchen. Nowhere to relax or sit down at all.

The internal entrance to the car park had a disgusting smell coming from an over flowing rubbish room. It smelt like it had been there for weeks. When I complained that I could
Smell it through my open window in the room on floor 1 , I was told that I shouldn't be able to smell it and that he would spray it.

My radiator heater then leaked all over the floor and on to my clothes I had out to wear the next morning. They were completely soaked.

For the price they charged it was appalling. I will complain to IBIS. It's a joke.
I would never go back or recommend anybody else to

Invercargill a very much underrated city - don't bypass

Perfect location in the centre of Invercargill. Walked to the park with it maize of sight seeing, recreational, Avery, gardens, animals and kids play grounds. The top don't miss attractions are the Richardson transport museum and the Hayes shop with the free display of over 56 vintage motor bikes including the record breaking \"Fastest Indian\".

I may have been in some ways a bit 'kind' as the room (apartment) we booked was not available because of 'a leaking problem. We were not told this as we checked in and arrived at our 'room' to find it nothing like what we wanted. It was clean tidy and sunny and had all the 'necessary' facilities. We discussed our dissatisfaction with the Receptionist, who asked if we would like a 'discount' Silly question! We should have been told at book in! They seemed happy to charge us the Apartment rate for a studio! We were not - they gave us a significant reduction and an excellent breakfast tray.
It was not that the room was not okay it was comfortable and had a good view and was very central - it was modern ad had nice art displayed everywhere. The access was NOT easy as you had to move through several security/fire doors to get to your room. Overall the rate we were charged in the end was satisfactory for the situation and the type of accommodation. However we would not book this property again - it would suit younger people more than the 60 plus.
