I really liked the place, I would go back. The only thing I really didn't like was that you can't be in the hotel from 10 am to 3 am because they're cleaning! They could easily have left the floor with the dining areas open. And the other thing I didn't like was that you can't leave your luggage at the hotel after you leave.

Noise policy is not enforced. And sleeping areas are not monitored.

So loud college kids, old salarymen on phones and drunks just stumbled in freely. Literally could light a cigarette in the sleeping rooms and the staff will not care.

They put in a capsule directly in front of the elevator. So heard everyone come out of that thing all night. Also no AC in capsules so very hot

Asked for a capsule change. Okay. They relocated me on top of a guy that fell asleep with his TV on full blast.

I asked the staff for another capsule change. No. Asked to at least please ask him to shut the TV off. Staff member came up, 20 min later, lightly tapped the drop down shade. Then when the guy didnt wake up, THE STAFF LEFT A STICKY NOTE ON THE SHADE AND CALLED IT A DAY.

I got maybe 2 hours of sleep max. Gave up at 4am. Went to luggage room (ofc totally unsecure no luggage lockers at all). And in the middle of the luggage room there’s a guy with his pants down…and just walked away everything behind.

To be honest, $26 in Shinjuku, I got what I paid for. But this is literally the worst lodging experience Ive had.

The website lists the suana/hottub as public so I assume I would be welcome but it was closed to women.
Also they don’t dim the lights at night in the sleeping area. I was shocked and annoyed to have the full overhead lights on at 1am. I understand a need for light but full blast was terrible considering the pull down screen didn’t block it properly.

Smells of feet everywhere, even in capsule. Capsule was tight for me 5’10’’ &woke up several times to the privacy curtain up & full bright hall light flooding in because it’s cramped & not thoughtful design. Mens toilets smell of pee, and one urinal was overflowing with it. 4th floor lounge smells of smoke, and was unable to spend any time there using kitchen space because of allergies. The few minutes I was there I noticed the door to the smoking room consistently doesn’t close all the way, so the cancerous odors are seeping out for all to suffer. Despite claim of closing 11-3 for cleaning, woke up to massive group of cleaners loudly pulling linens and resetting beds before 9am. When I asked to trade out my keys for breakfast several hours before checkout, staff were insistent to know how long I would be gone, even after confirming I knew checkout time. When I did remove my items from my bed space an hour before checkout, several cleaning crew members visibly celebrated my departure, not exactly a reaction that made me feel welcome. There also seemed to be more than a few drunk/weirdos using it as their crashpad; I woke up to one guy going to town with his masterbating toy, got up to use the toilet and saw several people half in/half out of their capsules passed out in full clothes. The parting words of 2 other guests as we left on the elevator sum it up: ‘get me out of here’. Don’t stay here unless you have no other choice. There are way better options out there.

If you stay multiple nights, They force you to check out everyday from 11-3pm. They make this loud announcement at 10am and it’s very annoying. I don’t need my bedsheets changed everyday and not everyone can just leave for 4 hours and not have a place to stay. I was disappointed with this.

The staff for Japan were rude. You have to leave at 11am which Is normal for capsules but they don't make you aware very well. The bath is not private but it is actually the only good thing very nice baths and very clean. The arear is hell, the air conditioning is on full blast and the pods are a sweat pit the 1980s style no airflow wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. However if you need just one night and you want to be in Shinjuku then it might be for you.

This review is for Shinjuku Capsule Hotel, Japan.

I have stayed in over 50 hostel-style hotels in 9 different countries and this is by far the worst.

1) There are no private showers. Only an onsen. So you will be bathing with other people.
2) They force you to vacate the premises from 11 to 3 every day. Yep. They’re taking four hours from you every day, you stay there. The reasoning? “Private reasons” 🙄
3) At 10:30 every morning they make an announcement on repeat so loud that it probably causes hearing loss
4) They only have one working elevator. Doing anything in that place takes ages.
5) Luggage storage is on floor 3. All the rooms are on higher floors. So you and your bag are in different rooms.
6) They don’t trust you to keep your key so they take the key from you until you are ready to open your luggage.

The only reason they get two stars because it was always clean.

If you would like to experience a capsule hotel, close to all the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku, this is the place for you. Hotel amenities are very basic, as expected, but Golden Gai and Memory Lane are right on your doorstep and the proximity to Shinjuku Station makes it a good base to explore wider Tokyo. If you’re just looking for a bed to crash in, this is an affordable choice.

Good: staff was friendly and helpful, location is close to most everything in Shinjuku.

Bad: first and most important, the ac either wasn’t on, or was so inefficient it seemed that way, it was cold outside, but when you walk in, you’re immediately sweating, immediately bummed me and my friend out. I also woke up drenched in sweat at 1 am so that was fun. Next, it’s claustrophobic and smells bad probably because of that, you walk in to the smell of musty feet, and the locker areas are super cramped. Speaking of lockers, they’re not spacious at all, barely enough room for a bag and the towels they give you(which also are bad…). Funnily enough, my locker actually broke when I opened it, so that made me feel secure with my items. Check out process was similar to other capsule hotels, you just HAD to check out, which made it a little annoying because then everyone was crowed on check in and check out, which made it smell worse. Bath was okay, just the foundation of the room wasn’t well maintained so it was kinda sketchy.

All in all, absolutely not staying here again, not worth the discomfort.

One thing only the storage of the luggage’s on the 4th floor is very crowded and I do not feel that’s my luggage will be secure because the capsule is on 6Th floor and your luggage is on 4th floor .
Also, the smoking area . They do have designated area for smoking but still u can smell the cigarette smoke at common area .
I do really like the public bath so I can experience the real Japanese way .
Definitely I’m coming back to this hotel.

Felt safe and liked that the woman’s floor is separate from the men’s and there is a code to get in. The women’s bathroom area was kept very clean and is stocked with toothbrushes, lotion, soap, shampoo and conditioner.

It sucks that you have to leave your room everyday at 11am-3pm so they can clean. Because of this I would recommend only staying 1-2 nights to adjust to the time or if you are already needing to do stuff at that time.

The capsule felt warm and stuffy at times and I wish you could turn on air in your individual capsule because of this but it seemed to come and go in waves, so I’m not sure if they turn on the heater at a certain point or what.

Super close to bars, restaurants, tons of shopping! Very close to the train station.

Staff overall is very friendly and professional.

Pro’s: Great location, nice sauna.

Con’s: Electricity in the pods went out on 2nd day of our 6 night stay. No power to charge phones, etc.
Halls and lockers are very narrow, with little to no storage for luggage, forcing one to store it next to a smoking chamber that had no ventilation except for a window. The entire luggage storage room as well as adjoining common area smelled of smoke. Because of the power outage in the pods, we would sit in the common area to wait as our phones charged, upwards of 2 hours each day. Everyone is FORCED to leave the premises between 11am and 3pm EVERY day, so they can reset the pods. If you’re hungover, sick, sleep during the day because of a time difference with remote work, etc etc, you STILL have to leave for 4 hours. No slippers, they cost extra. The whole process was quite tedious….check in and out (every time you leave the building) on the 3rd floor, luggage must stay on the 4th floor, showers and sauna on the 3rd floor, pods on 4th thru 6th floors. One tiny elevator. Be prepared to use a lot of time going back and forth between floors. Blackout shades on each pod, but super bright hallway lights that shine thru the sides of the shade. Was able to cancel and request refund for remaining 2 nights after being fed up with overall unpleasant experience, but they didn’t have enough cash to refund me, so they promised to wire it and took down my banking info. Hope to get the refund. Best to stay elsewhere!!!!!!

I'd heard/read about this place a lot, and it's definitely very popular/crowded due to its location in Shinjuku/Kabukicho and the low price. It's been around for a while, and unfortunately the wear and tear shows. It probably wasn't meant to accommodate this many guests, and the locker area is tight and has that hostel smell. The walls are cracking and peeling, and there are big slippery puddles in the bath, so it probably needs a renovation. Elevators are a bit slow, but the staff is very patient, and you get what you pay for with the capsule experience.

The individual capsule beds do not have AC, it got really warm during our stay in early September. A small locker is provided for belongings but larger luggage will have to be stored in a common area. The hotel is closed for cleaning middle of the day around 11am-3pm.

Great cheap option! Small pods but I was able to fit comfortably (5 feet 9 inches) and have great sleep here. Clean, the floor I was one was properly ventilated so it was cold at night, and great services like the PJs, towels, and shampoo/conditioner. Also, incredibly central and much of Tokyo was accessible. Only thing to be aware of is everyday you need to leave between 11-3 pm while they clean even if you stay multiple nights. You can leave your things though so it’s not too bad. I highly recommend. When I come back I’ll be staying here!

There are a lot of people in each room . The staff provides pajamas, slippers, and towels. You do have to leave everyday between 11-3pm no matter how long you are staying for cleaning

I really enjoyed the simplicity behind the hotel. The idea of having an incredibly cheap place to stay in the Shinjuku, Tokyo amazes me when you look at the amount of things readily available to you either by Metro or walking distance. I say its an experience that should be had.

I enjoyed the amount of room within the capsule and the locker system but the downsides to my experience were the other loud guests. I have a feeling i might have annoyed my neighbors while i moved around to get comfortable but there were some guests who were speaking loud and constantly moving and or dropping heavy things.

All in all, it was a must have experience. Would I do it again? Yes, if i didnt have so much luggage. Should you always go for this option? Maybe not if privacy is something you cherish.

The price for the location is not bad but I did not like staying at this hostel and do not recommend. The capsules get very hot and do not have good airflow. There is only one elevator that goes to the rooms and it's very busy. There are no stairs to use either. You must leave the hotel between 11 am and 3 pm even if you stay consecutive nights. The area is convenient but I wasn't able to get good sleep here. The surrounding area is infested with nigerian scammers that will hassle you. It serves a purpose for the location and price but there are better options within walking distance. I won't stay here again.

This feel more like a back packers hostel, witch i don't mind but i wish i know that going in to it. And when you compare it to first caben or apa it left some to be Desired. Also you cannot be in the hotel form 11am-3pm so if you have jetlag there is no napping for you. The bath area was large but a little run down.

Easily the worst hostel experience I’ve ever had. They kick everyone out from 11am-3pm everyday for cleaning which is bad enough but to make things worse they will noisily start cleaning at 9:30am. There is mould everywhere in the male showers and the lobby reeks from all the dirty feet that come through it daily. Honestly so gross, been to a couple capsule hostels and this is a serious drop in quality from all others.

The rules are really weird. Firstly, you have to leave the property between 10am-2pm (I think they changed it from 11am-3pm on my last day). But it’s mandatory that you are not in the hostel at all. Which is just weird considering I’m paying for complete usage. So if I want to sleep in because I’ve had a busy few days, or I’m sick or if I wanna sit in the lunge all day to do work. You still have to leave at 10am/11am. Secondly, the showers are public in the way of no curtains or anything. Just completely open. Which sure, it’s common for onsens and such, where people have the choice to use or not to use. But having the regular showers; a feature that is for basic hygiene, with no privacy is weird. They also take your keys to your locker if you decide to leave the hostel throughout the day. As if the staff aren’t capable of stealing. The actions hostel itself isn’t too run down, but definitely outdated. I made the mistake of staying here for 10 nights.
