This is a lovely and peaceful hotel - the room was cleaned to a high standard, the food was really tasty, with a good menu and well presented food. I especially enjoyed the sea bass and there was a huge selection for breakfast. The staff are very polite and obliging - nothing is too much trouble.
The grounds will look lovely in summer, but even in the winter they are still nice. I really recommend a stay here.

Rooms were not clean enough. They had cobwebs and dirty glasses to drink from.
The smell of smoking and toilet made it pretty unbearable to stay for the first night.

We requested a clean up the next morning, and febreeze was sprayed and rest of left as it was for the next night.

Very disappointed and although this is a convenient location, won’t be returning 😭

I stayed in a privilege room, there were birds singing loudly at 3am, for atleast an hour, went to find someone to help me, no one at reception over night, had to use a whatsapp code, managed to move rooms to a smaller room at 5am, with no assistance with luggage, to find ladybugs on the bed and lamp, int he morning I asked for compensation for the terrible night sleep, unclean room and poor service, the gentleman on the front desk said it was a management decision but still a week later I have hard nothing despite sending multiple follow ups and demanding a response. It was a terrible experience that could have been handled much different and I held off writing this review to give them the benefit of the doubt and opportunity to correct it but the lack of response is just astonishing. I travel all over the world on a regular basis (every month) and I have never left a poor review on this website.

Upon arrival, the car park was unlit, despite being charged £10 to park in what was effectively a field. I was then directed to my room and informed that access required a passcode, which in itself was not an issue.

However, upon entering the room, the condition was extremely disappointing. The accommodation was visibly run down and poorly maintained, with stained carpets, damaged cupboards, and furniture showing significant wear. The desk had a glass top, beneath which there was a heavy build-up of dust and grime, suggesting it had not been cleaned for a considerable period of time. Overall, the room felt unclean and neglected.

Based on the property’s advertised star rating and the overwhelmingly positive reviews, my expectations were significantly higher. Unfortunately, the standard of the room was more in line with a budget, one-star property and did not reflect the price being charged.

I chose not to stay and immediately booked alternative accommodation elsewhere — something I very rarely do. Sadly, this stay fell well short of what was promised and was a genuine disappointment.

They rang just as we pulled up outside after a 3 hour drive to say they cancelled our booking. Eventually found us a room after someone else cancelled. Then water started pouring through the light fittings flooding the dining room. The place is badly run with sarcastic unhelpful staff

the managers were helpful carrying our cases up and down two fcloors. no lift there. we found the menu had the same thing on every night. i am a diabetic type two and not everything i could eat apart from the beef steak pie and chicken with rice. i did not want the peppercorn sauce but i asked for gravyt which was bought to me when i had nearly finished the meal. room service could have been better. sometimes no milk ortea bags . one occasion waste paper basket not emptied and cups npot washed. otherwise we were ahppy there.

Lovely old fashioned hotel, with nice outside garden, and heated pool to enjoy. Stayed for a breakfast, and dinner, and both meals were of good quality. Service was friendly, and helpful, within the hotel. Cleanliness was good. Also, situated near Dorking town. Enjoyed the scenic walk around the hotel, fab view.
Only criticism is the hotel could use a bit of an update, as some areas need attention.

The alarm went off all night

I had a mediocre stay at this hotel, but I encountered a significant issue with their new keypad door system, which seemed to malfunction throughout the night. I was jolted awake multiple times by the abrupt and loud alarm, making it difficult to rest. When I brought this up to the reception, they acknowledged the problem but mentioned there was nothing they could do. Unfortunately, this experience overshadowed my visit, and I wouldn't choose to return.

I chose this hotel for its location to Box Hill and the fab outdoor pool.
I was staying for work and meeting a friend locally for dinner. I had a lovely run up box hill then a dip in the pool. What a bonus! The room was comfortable. I found the code entry a bit unusual but ok although i couldnt get in after hours. Luckily someone else let me in. Would stay here again for the great facilities.

Lovely location, right at the foot of Box Hill giving easy access to beautiful countryside walks and views. Parking was easy enough, you simply find a spot in the car park across the road then enter your car reg details on a tablet in the hotel lobby. Check-in was easy, if not rather impersonal (all done with access codes that are sent to you by email). Nice room, good shower, comfy bed. Room was clean and comfortable, but in need of a few small bits of maintenance - the bathroom sink took ages to drain, and one of the curtain runners was sagging, which made closing the curtains a little difficult. Other than that, we were very happy with the room. The biggest downside for us was that, while we did not book in for the breakfast, we had expected to at least be able to get a decent coffee in the morning…but for some reason the bar and restaurant were both closed. It seemed the hotel runs on minimal staff. There is, however, a cafe a short walk up the road. Another thing worth mentioning is that having booked the hotel on the basis that checkout was 11am, we later received communications stating that checkout was 10am. This was an error - we confirmed with the hotel that checkout is 11am. Phew! Overall, we felt the hotel was good value for money and we would stay here again.

The Stay was good, however one of the meals in the restaurant was advertised as a 'Honey glazed rids' and was a single rib that was overcooked and inedible and was sent back uneaten.
The restaurant did nothing about this didn't explain offer alternative or remove the poor meal from the bill, we payed the bill and left and will never eat there or stay in the hotel again.

Hotel was certainly clean, the staff good. However, the extremely officius WhatsApp message compelling me to log in prior to actually checking in was not what I wanted to do after a 200 mile drive!! In the web check-in it requires my nationality. OK fair enough, but searching on a drop down list on a mobile isn't the easiest thing to do on their site, especially when English or British aren't listed. I eventually chose United Kingdom as the closest, but \"United Kingdom\" isn't a nationality! The rest of the website is useless. We couldn't find a menu, so decided to go out for dinner, checking the restaurant on our way, in case it was OK. It was, and we had a good meal. But with no information in the room or on the useless website they very nearly didn't get our custom. OYO UK, seems very keen on technology, which is extremely badly implemented. The hotel is quite old, and while updated with en-suite rooms and VERY welcome air conditioning, the floor boards creak excessively and sound insulation very poor. Additionally there were various other annoying things, such as there wasn't anywhere to put used teabags! The most basic chain hotels provide things like this.

Arrived late at night and the person checking us in was extremely unenthusiastic (we'd had a 6 hour drive so would've been nice to feel welcomed). We weren't told about usual things such as wifi, breakfast, parking. Later found the pool was closed which was the main reason we booked it. Room had a double bed and a sofa bed.. sofa bed was made even though we only had 2 people staying and new this so would've been better to have it as a sofa and more space. Rooms are quite spacious, nice shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Was a good location for the wedding we went to at ridge farm, was close drive to the down and the vineyard.

Hotel had changed hands \"about 3 months ago\" yet contact details provided by Expedia referred us to the previous owners. Upon arrival, we asked if our room, given us by the automatic check-in, was a quiet. The receptionist then gave us a different room toward the rear of the property. The food in the restaurant was poor so the waiter only charged for one meal. On returning to our room there was a drone of what we believe was a fan coming from above. Around 10:30pm, there was a knock on the door from the guest who had been given our room via his automatic check-in.
Then either guests or staff stopped for a chat and a smoke underneath our window, therefore, with that and the never-ending drone, at about 11:30pm, we decided to leave.

The breakfasts were generous, plenty of fresh fruit and a help-yourself cooked breakfast with freshly cooked eggs to order. The manager, Stephen, was very helpful in providing information. The hotel is well situated for walking in the Surrey Hills.

Unfortunately a rather disappointing stay. Best part was the five minutes we spent checking in. After that it just sort of went downhill. I tried to stay positive but the morning experience and all the accumulative little bits made this review more unpleasant than it should’ve been.

I wanted to surprise my husband with a little get away and we were upgraded to a superior room before arriving. I must say it was what I would’ve expected a normal room to look like and nothing superior.
The pool, although heater, is seasonal only (I might have missed info about that) which was disappointing. Decided to have a bath instead but the bottom was stained and it was covered in hair.
Hairdryer doesn’t work in a superior room and neither did my bedside lamp.
The fan in the bathroom sounds like a plane taking off.

Got woken up at 7 from music from the breakfast room blaring up to room.
Excited about breakfast we went down. Nobody really greeted us even tho sign said wait to be seated.Then we didn’t get seated.The menu was confusing even tho I had paid for breakfast it wasn’t made clear what the deal was and nobody explained nicely.Tea water was cold.All juices warm. No labels telling you what the juices were. My husband breakfast was missing bacon and the eggs were too uncooked.When I asked for bacon and new eggs the lady was very unpleasant.Took another 20 mins and she wasn’t apologetic at all.When checking out he didn’t ask how our stay was and barely said anything.unprofessional

Very basic otherwise.
Shampoo and soaps attached to the wall about 1.5 metres higher than the bath, can’t be reached without standing up!
Bath panel hanging off.
Extractor fan doesn’t work.
Two sachets of coffee each day, between two guests.
Have to walk outside in the rain to get to some rooms.
Reception chaotic during check in.
No smoking, not even on balconies.

Priced as 4 star hotel, 3 star at best with 2 star personal touches

We have stayed at this hotel several times. The rooms are clean and spacious and the beds are comfortable. Good power shower. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful.
The negatives are we generally stay in January and the central heating in our room has never worked. The hotel provides an electric heater for the room but it would be better if they could sort out the heating. Also for this standard hotel, the towels are very poor quality - old, thin and very rough.

Very friendly and helpful staff, room very nicely furnished with great amenities such as fridge, kettle etc. but we would have preferred a walk in shower rather than over the bath- water pressure not good either. The single glazed patio doors were old and let in cold air. Apart from that it was a pleasure to stay there.

Our 2nd time staying at Box Hill. Warmly greeted at reception, a small room but had everything we needed for an overnight stay. Very comfy bed with good blackout curtains. We enjoyed an evening meal in the restaurant & an excellent choice for breakfast all in a stunning location.

A lovely location

We had a 1 night stay as we were attending a wedding at nearby Denbies Vineyard. The location was excellent and we managed a dip in the pool. We had drinks and burgers at the bar which were reasonably priced and the room was comfortable and a good size. The hotel is a bit dated in places but I would recommend it.

Surrey Hills Break

We have stayed in the Mercure Burford Bridge on a number of occasions and this latest stay did not disappoint.
A friendly comfortable hotel with a great lawned garden and outdoor swimming pool, perfect for warm sunny summer days. A great location for exploring the Surrey Hills with many attractions nearby, including Polesden Lacey.

Loved it

Fab hotel for a mini stay cation with sun and swimming. Made up got not being able to go abroad. Pretty surroundings, great service and good food. Can't fault it for the price!

Wonderful

An amazing stay. Used the pool all day before check in and all day the next day. Lunch was lovely but very slow. Waited 45 mins for a sandwich. Think they we’re short staffed as the bar also took 25 mins to get a drink. The staff were really helpful and although we didn’t book breakfats the manager allowed me to get a coffee in the morning. Another guest told me the breakfast was fantastic. Free parking but make sure you register your reg plate at reception.
I would say my only criticism was that our room was so tiny. Room 212. I banged straight into a case stool as I entered and you could barely get around the bed . Too much furniture for such a tiny room. We did only book the basic room but this was exceptionally small even for basic. Also it looked out over the laurndey racks ..Will definitely be staying again but not in that room.

Room was lovely and clean. Bathroom was very nice. Pool was lovely and nicely warm even when cold outside. Reception staff were lovely and checked us in quickly

Amazing stay

After an awful experience having our flight cancelled by easy jet and being put in an awful hotel our welcome by William and team was like a gift from the gods. We were so well looked after by the friendly team there. The accommodation was really great, the pool was room.
