I had a really pleasant stay at this hotel. The staff were very helpful and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The location is easy to get to, making travel to work convenient and the hotel offers good amenities that added to the comfort of my stay.

Stunning hotel

We got married here a year ago so came back for our 1st anniversary. We had a delicious meal and lovely breakfast in bed. There was no service charge for room service which was lovely. Our room was exceptionally comfortable and well equipped and the staff were lovely. In addition to that, the hotel looked stunning with all the Christmas decorations. A fairytale venue.

Nice location for a stopover. Historic building with views of the rolling grounds. Rooms are small with thin walls but well appointed. Dinner in the bar was ok but tables were in short supply and the Cesar salad lacked flair. The restaurant had a two course menu but this didn't work for me as only needed a single course.

Our experience was so bad that we checked out after 1 night and asked for a refund for the next night. The outside of the main building and grounds are beautiful, but the rest of our experience was too awful to stay.
-After we used the toilet once (not doing anything abnormal there) it blocked. They said there is no handyman on Sundays so it couldn't be fixed. It's mad a 4star hotel couldn't call one out. We had to use the toilet of another room in the building. We didn't want to move to a different type of room as specifically booked this room category as it opens onto the grounds - that is what we came for!
-The food at dinner was so bad that we had to order breakfast from ubereats as we did not want to risk eating there again. All radiators were off in the dining room and one window was wide open, so we ate in winter coats - it was like they make no effort unless there is a wedding.
-The radiators in the room went off even though it was very cold
-Neither of their wifi options worked in the annex- clearly it was coming from the main building and there was no working router in the annex. We reported this multiple times and nothing was done.
-They advertise smart tvs in their website but they were old tvs with only youtube
-The bath was filthy
-Telephone intermittently didn't work
-At 10am, despite the do-not-disturb sign, staff knocked on the door and came in, waking me
-Despite all these problems, we were only offered a free meal, no refund for the night we stayed.

Very nice property in lovely grounds. We had a room in an annex which was fine and probably a little quieter than the main house as there was a wedding on. The room had a very nice private patio area outside but we weren’t able to use as the weather was so wet. The service at the bar was poor probably because of the wedding. Similarly the restaurant was dead - we were the only people dining - again likely to be due to the wedding. Food was good. Had we known there was a wedding on we probably would not have stayed. May pay to ask about weddings if you are considering staying here..,

Hi i wasn't happy with the lodge room as it's was very dirty so i rang reception and sent 2 lovely ladies to check after that they were happy to change my room to manor hotel,the young girl asked the reception lady to change my room to manor hotel also i mentioned to her that i made a mistake booked in lodge as manor hotel last time i stayed was nice and clean and same price despite i told her and the kind young lady asked her too to change my room to manor hotel but she didn't . She booked me in room 51 which was not a nice thing to do and the corridor floor in room 51 was smelly of urine and outside when i opened my window smelly poo of horses so i wasn't happy at all with that reception who booked me in yesterday at 2 pm as she didn't gave me a room in manor house i was paying the same amount £154 for the room in that hotel and also the young lovely lady who was sitting at the back said it is not very busy tonite . She was very kind and helpful but the reception lady wasn't friendly ,kind or helpful to me .

It was a beautiful manor with gorgeous grounds and nature, but no fridge/ microwave/ no A/C. And the train station, Betchworth, had no live person, no Ubers or Taxis. My cellphone didn't work in the area, so I had to walk to a house across from the station. Thankfully, a college student was home and was able to drive me to the manor. Otherwise, I honestly don't know how I would have gotten to the Manor.

I have learned something from this experience which is to always check whether there's a function on or not as I am sure the poor service was due to not enough staff to handle both function and private guests. Maybe it's the same anywhere? The restaurant was not open (because of the wedding) so I can't comment on food. I was not made aware of the function at time of booking but in future I'll ask. My visitors and I had to wait over half hour for tea in the lounge on arrival and then were told to pay at the (unmanned) bar rather than given an option to put it on the room bill. The room was pokey with some very odd features but comfortable enough and thankfully soundproof from the function. I ordered room service breakfast for the morning after the wedding which arrived 1/2 hour late and without any butter. I was horrified to find my bed unmade and breakfast stuff still in my room on my return late that same day. I was then questioned about whether I wanted certain items ie. serviette taken away when they did come (I think with a degree of sarcasm). I was told that the bed wasn't due to be made but I'm not sure what was meant by this as it was made the previous day. All in all the service was poor which may or may not have been the case without the function. I think that with this (and possibly other similar) hotel(s), you pay for the old building and the grounds and not the service.

Only a few miles off Junction 8 of the M25, Hartsfield Manor was an ideal location for a recent visit to the area. The main building is impressive but only contains some of the guest rooms, plus conference rooms, restaurant and bar. The large rooms and suites are in this main building, which is very grand, with a wonderful staircase.
We were given a room in the Lodge by the entrance to the long drive up to the house. The room was comfortable and clean but only had two parking spaces at the front, which were occupied. So, we had to use the small car park behind the lodge which has some access issues (steps with no handrail). It is also a long walk from the house, so using the car was the only real option with luggage.
It seems that most accommodation is in the modern 1970s-style annex, which is not what most people, including us, would expect. This may account for some disappointment reflected in other reviews.
If you want to get the full benefit of this grand manor, make sure that you book a room or suite in the main building, and not the annex.
Weekday breakfast is only served until 9.30am and we were the last to arrive. However, the food was adequate but disappointing for this class of hotel. The service was also “distracted” as we were asked “tea or coffee” three times!

I was initially given a room I hadn't booked, so had to go through the rigmarole of changing rooms then moving all my stuff. The bed and pillows were far too soft and I woke up with horrendous back pain. For a huge bathroom, the bath was tiny and uncomfortable. There were blinds in the bathroom, but they didn't fit the windows perfectly so, especially at night, I didn't feel comfortable in the bathroom. The food in the restaurant was expensive and the portion sizes too small. I wouldn't have minded the price if there was more on the plate. Not a pleasant experience really.

One night Saturday stay

We stayed a Saturday night when a wedding was in full flow. Check in was good and the staff very friendly and helpful. The room was quiet, being separate from the main building. The bar area was relatively small and dominated by wedding guests which was a negative. The kitchen shut at 9pm and no hot food available from room service which was disappointing. Breakfast was good and buffet style. The room was comfortable but the TV and channel options basic. I think it was slightly expensive for what it was.

Terrible - don’t let the outside photos fool you!

Firstly there was a sick stain on the carpet which wasn’t very pleasant.
The room was unbearably hot despite turning heating off and opening windows.
There was a wedding which went on to at least 3pm and it was incredibly loud and we had no sleep at all.
Table was dirty at breakfast with really bad buffet style fry up - that was not worth the money at all get better in ikea.
Room key never worked meaning we had to go down to lobby to get it changed every time we went into room.
Very limited parking I suspect due to wedding and not the best conditions for a low car!

Very quiet and safe hotel which includes the annex rooms with great views. The rooms smelt a little fusty because the carpets need a good clean or changing. Situated on the first floor and being non smokers we did notice in the morning that a smoker was on the ground floor room terrace below our room smoking, not pleasant if your having a lay in. If the rooms could be updated the room rate would be acceptable, unfortunately a little overpriced.

This is a well maintained historical manor hotel which situated in a quiet little village about 40 minutes away from Gatwick airport by Taxi. Our room was Modern and clean. We love their Typical English countryside view from their backyard. Breakfast and dinner are served nicely. The only issue we had is the check in time took too long. Even we were the only guest at that time to do the check in.

Turned up at the hotel to be told the restaurant was shut. The hotel could have called or emailed ahead to advise this then i wouldn't have stayed without food. My room was in the annex building which in 31 degree heat and no air con, was quite frankly like being in the desert. The whole annex building was disgustingly filthy. Floors on the way through have not seen a vacuum in weeks. The floor in the room was no better. The floor has not seen a vacuum in weeks, with old clothes plastic tags, crumbs of food and general dirt on the floor. Surfaces are stained and dirty. Kettle is dirty and manky. The cleaner should be ashamed of themselves

Great value for money stay in a lovely environment

Really enjoyed my overnight stay here. The Staff were amazing, upbeat and professional. The Manor was roomy, with plenty of places to relax. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. I paid for a normal room which had a desk, ironing facilities, still and spring water, biscuits, quality coffee, L'Occitane gel/shampoo etc. Very peaceful and quiet.

Noisy House-Keeping Staff

The room we booked was a superior bedroom with garden view. However the room we were given turned out to only have a partial garden view. The staff offered another room but this was smaller than the superior room that I booked.
At our first break neither tea or coffee nor toast was offered. But this was corrected on our second breakfast so I put our experience at the first breakfast as an oversight.

Our room was next to the house-keeping office and the staff make a lot of noise in the morning on the corridor as early as 6:30am which disturbs my sleep. Also had house-keeping knocking on my door as early as 7am not sure why this should ever happen. Totally unhappy about this.

In terms of cleanliness there are dust on the extractor and the white goods in the shower which was not great for a 4* hotel.

The Hartsfield Manor is a beautiful hotel in a lovely location within superb well kept grounds.
The room was quite small but perfect for what I needed and the décor was in keeping with the style.
Very clean and good facilities.
Only thing was that the bar wasn't manned and all customers had to find someone from reception to get served.

The hotel is beautiful, and has great potential, but the service overall was really bad. The chap on reception was amazing, very welcoming and friendly. It was difficult to get drinks from the bar and had to wait an hour for lunch, being told that the chefs were fighting in the kitchen! Staff were very friendly, but the service was poor. On first sight the room looked clean, but no attention to detail. The velvet shade on the beside lamp was thick with dust, as was the top of the head board. Having paid £182 for a night stay and breakfast I expected much better

The house itself is lovely and my room which was a junior suite, was really large with the bed being comfortable.

However, the room had cobwebs and was pretty dusty in the bathroom and parts of the main room. There wasn't a mini fridge and the breakfast is really basic.

The grounds and views around the hotel are great and the staff were lovely.

On booking the hotel i worried it was an older hotel with tired rooms and decor. It isn't the decor and furniture is far from tired there are several sitting rooms down stairs with comfy setees and couches for relaxation, the gardens are beautiful with loungers to sit out .Check in at reception in a grand entrance hall went well plenty of covid precautions hand sanitizer points are numerous throughout the hotel our room was in an anex next door to the main building it was clean modern nice bath and shower for evening meal the menu wasnt very comprehensive but had sufficient choice we both had burgers in the bar they were very nice served by a very attentive bartender .Next morning the breakfast was freshly cooked and very nice .We had an enjoyable overnight stay would definitely return if in the area again.

A good choice to stay near Gatwick

The room is big and nicely decorated and the bed is very comfortable. The garden view is superb but there were many cigarette butts outside the French door.

Beautiful hotel with amazing views

The reception ladies were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our room was large, beautifully done with a very large comfortable bed and had an amazing view. The bar and restaurant staff unfortunately were less helpful and the man in the restaurant was quite unwelcoming and made us feel like we shouldn't be there. Overall though our short stay was very good.

All about the parties not about the paying guests!

We weren't told until we arrived that there were 2 parties happening and the restaurant would be used to cater for one of them, so we were given the bar menu which is not food that I wanted. It was our anniversary so all we wanted was good quality food and a decent room. The noise when the parties were going home woke us up around 2ish. We cut short our stay and went to another hotel.They catered more for the parties than the guests staying there.
