I booked two rooms for my family at Onsen last weekend, choosing it over other mineral spring options because it included breakfast.

**The Good:** The mineral pool and jacuzzi were nice and warm, and the property is pet-friendly. Check-in was smooth thanks to Andy, who was very helpful. While the building is older, it’s nicely renovated and well-maintained.

**The Bad:** The AC in one room was weak, so check yours if you are sensitive to temperature. Also, the surrounding area felt a bit sketchy, though it's fine if you have a car and stay on-site.

**The Disappointments:** Breakfast was a major letdown. The breakfast hours are already late (8:30-10:00 AM), but no food or staff arrived until 9:00 AM. The hotel was completely unstaffed overnight and in the morning. Andy, who worked the night shift, actually had to come back in to help make basic toast and coffee.

To top it off, the phone number on the front door was out of service. When we finally reached the manager, she promised to \"take care of us\" and took my contact info, but I still haven't heard back. Great pools, but terrible management and communication.

Very nice place, especially for this area. You feel sucluded, resort like even. There are a few hiking trails minutes away, a very good indian restaraunt down the street and everything in palm springs is 15-20 min away. Breakfast is meh, but good enough.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The pool and hot tub are wonderful. Our room was spacious and attractive, and the property is quiet and peaceful. One suggestion would be to add a second chair and maybe an end table in the TV viewing area in our room because there is a nice amount of space for two people to sit. The location is within easy drives to Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs. We stayed four nights and enjoyed out time at Onsen Hotel very much. We did not use any of the spa services, so I can't comment on those.

Room was fine. In a terrible area, and there is no one to check you in. You call a number on the door and talk to someone off site, who asks for your credit number over the phone. It was very weird. They give you a code to a lockbox (which is hidden) to get your room key.The property is in a terrible area and I did not feel safe.
No room service and no one to ask.
Do not book this place !

This hotel has gone down in customer service since a year ago when we visited. The pool deck was not kept clear of towels and plates which sat overnight and we saw again this morning. They should update the website to inform guests that breakfast is not until 8:30 which is extremely late and since all guests are basically waiting to get in at 8;30 coffee and food runs out real quick. It was just a cluster if you knmow what I mean

The room was simple, clean and pretty. The staff took the time to walk us to our room in the dark when we arrived, such a small gesture but so helpful. The breakfast in the morning was nice with a free continental breakfast and options to order and pay for an acaii bowl, wine, etc. The jacuzzi and heated pool were 10/10, I enjoyed going between the two different temperatures. We would stay here again!

Always willing to give desert hot springs a chance because it’s close to Joshua Tree and pioneertown- and who can afford $415 a night in pioneertown? The Onsen was alright, rough area. Not sure if there is a “nice” area around- apologize in advance if there is. You can tell an upgrade had been done in the last decade? Maybe, so the upgrade is now a little fading. Did not like the bed mattress, really liked the showerhead, it had a nice mist function and great water pressure. The bath products were actually solid. Visited the pool early, about 745am and had it to myself. The remnants of the Saturday evening before were still visible. Towels strewn around, robes, even door keys were left out. However even with what must have been a party, we didn’t hear noise in our room. We made sure to go back with cash after checkout and tip the housekeeper- we are sure she had her work cut out for her.

First room smelled like smoke and the door didn’t close properly and wouldn’t lock. They moved us to a different room which was much better. Then the unreal happened, NO HOT WATER!! 2 days we couldn’t take a shower and the front desk apologized and said there was nothing they could do. Offered us a 20% discount off 1 day. Never actually gave us the refund even though they stated they would. 2 things you should get when staying at a hotel a safe place to sleep and a place to clean such as a shower. I called a few days after our stay to get a refund and they still haven’t responded back. It’s been 10 days.

This is a small hotel, and I liked that it was located in a relatively quiet area. The staff members were kind and helpful. The parking lot was fine, and rideshare drivers were able to find the pickup point easily. Rooms were surprisingly large and spacious. I loved having a microwave and mini fridge. The beds were decent, and the showerheads had great water pressure. Air conditioning was very effective. The breakfast selection was limited (bagels with plain cream cheese, yogurt with granola and frozen berries, toast, cereals, milk, and juices. The coffee wasn't bad.

But other minor things could be improved. For example, the front desk was staffed only until 4 pm some days, but the entry gates were never locked despite having card readers mounted on them. (Sometimes the gate was just wide open, actually.) This wouldn't have been as concerning if the rooms felt more secure -- our rooms had no peep holes and no u-shaped security latches that larger hotels commonly have. Ladies, I would strongly recommend a portable door alarm for your room if that'll help you sleep easier without a latch.

The rooms were clean, but the walls and trim pieces were pretty beat up. We traveled in a group and booked six rooms, but there was only one iron available for the property, which we were surprised to find out given there are 20+ rooms. We also chose this hotel because the name indicated a spa-focused experience. However, we found out later that they do only single and couples massages.

I couldn't find the staff when checking in. I called the number on the front desk and no answer. I just sat and waited. Employee eventually showed up. Toilet was broken in room and went back to lobby to report the handle was broken and couldn't flush it. Employee was gone again and no answer on the phone number on the counter to call when not staffed. Breakfast starts late at 7:30 and I was gone by then. I've stayed here many times and it's getting worse. Oh, hot tub is not very hot but pool was comfortable.

Onsen was a darling desert oasis in Spa City. From our home base of Onsen, we spent seven days exploring Joshua Tree national park and the state park Indian Canyon. After a long day of hiking, we returned to Onsen to enjoy its large mineral pool and enormous hot tub. (By the way, the mineral water is silky and buoyant. A nice surprise!) We also explored the adjacent neighborhood. Onsen suggested Deliciouso and Taste of India. The recommendations were on spot - both were culinary gems. Not enough could be said about the graciousness of the staff. We would highly recommend Onsen and only wish its location to Chicago!!

This place is great if you’re just gonna chill there the whole time and don’t mind 20 minutes drive for any real options outside of a couple restaurants. It’s not very big, but it was nice that it wasn’t busy and we got the pool/ hot tub to ourselves. Bed wasn’t very comfortable. Incredibly rude staff at Onsen

Due to the fires in SoCal, we wanted to change our trip dates. Tried to change online, however the hotels.com website was not working correctly, so I resorted to calling. Hotels.com team tried to help out, but the Onsen hotel staff was incredibly rude to your team! They thought I was on hold, but I could hear the entire conversation! The Onsen staff kept trying to pretend like they couldn’t understand the slightly Indian accented, perfectly good clear English that your hotels.com staff was speaking. It was really rude and racist. Onsen finally said we needed to speak to a manager, but management refused to pick up or call back for 7 days and it was finally too late. Since I was going to be charged anyway, I decided not to cancel my reservation, so the hotel could not double dip. It was clear they were trying to keep my money AND resell the room. And just to be really clear… hotels.com staff were very patient and kind and did everything they could. And I was very patient and kind when I tried to speak to the hotel directly. My English had no accent, so I guess they’re just dismissive and rude and unresponsive to everyone. I will not ever book that hotel because I heard just how rude they were to your hotels.com staff. I will book hotels through hotels.com again, and I appreciate your compassionate and hard-working team.

Nowhere on Expedia is it mentioned that this hotel is adults only. My son and I went to check in, and not only were we turned away (exhausted after 8 hours of driving) even after staff acknowledged the failure being on their part, but I was also told I couldn’t be given a refund bc “only the owner can do that” and she was not on the property. Listen, I am a business owner, too. I understand how systems can be challenging to navigate at times. But when we make mistakes, we still are beholden to do the right thing. I am incredibly disappointed in the owner of this establishment. May they learn from their mistakes and do better next time.

This place says it has a spa (which included ridiculously priced spa treatments) however I have no idea where that was. Workout room had 2 pieces of equipment and 2 yoga balls, one of
Which was partially deflated. The walls and cieling on bottom floor are super thin. The person upstairs started stomping around their room endlessly at 6am and the room next door had a late night visitor that I’m pretty sure was a sex worker lol which is fine I guess except she was crazy loud (you get what you pay for though?) There was an empty lot with trash and just debris next to the hotel with a homeless encampment nearby—which didn’t bother us but some people may not like it. The staff however was absolutely wonderful. Really great customer service and friendly. I would not stay here again though.

I’m honestly shocked at how well this property was reviewed across several platforms. First off we arrived a few minutes after 3 to find an unattended front desk. Another guest let us know they had also been waiting and that the manager should be there shortly. We were finally checked in and taken to a room that had not been cleaned. The staff member then took us to another room, however it was not the right size. We were then told the king room would be ready in 30 minutes. We were not checked on and had to repeatedly ask for us a status update while several other guests were checked in and showed to their rooms. After 45 minutes, we were shown to our room that had wet floors and was missing bath products and linens. The manager did offer us a bottle of wine only after we had to return to the front desk for these missing items. We were shown a parking lot and entrance close to our room but not told the entrance may be locked or given a code. So after walking our dog we were locked out for 15 minutes, because the front desk was once again unattended at 5:30p. I’m glad I booked via Expedia as I saw the rooms were going for double the price on their website, and this place is not really a hotel, it’s a motel. Also given how small the place is I’m not sure where the spa could possibly be even though services are offered. Also there were no towels at the pool.

“Relaxing Getaway”

We recently enjoyed our second weekend stay in a month at the Onsen Hotel and Spa in Desert Hot Springs, and it was just as delightful as the first. The hotel staff were professional and incredibly friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room was clean and well-maintained, with a lovely patio that added a nice touch of relaxation. The mineral hot springs were absolutely wonderful—soothing and rejuvenating. We also appreciated the peaceful, adults-only atmosphere, which made the experience even more serene. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway!

I can't say enough nice things about our two day stay at Onsen. The staff were super nice and helpful. Our room was very well equipped, clean and comfortable. The view from our balcony was great and my wife loved the mineral spring pool. You cannot walk to dinner but that is a small price to pay for such a relaxing experience.

Nice place

Very clean and quiet place no kids. Rooms were modern up to date. Air conditioner was brand new and quiet. Parking was easy no charge and pool and jacuzzi was really clean.

2 night stay to visit Joshua Tree NP. The staff was excellent! The room was large and comfortable. The pool was awesome. Nothing negative.
