We really enjoyed our stay. The hostel is in a great location and we made full use of the kitchen and the pool table! The room and common areas could do with a more thorough clean but it was a good value stay for us as a family. We enjoyed walking from the hostel and seeing the beautiful views of the Blue Mountains.

A well located spot with wonderfully welcoming staff. Our family of 4 including two primary aged kids enjoyed playing ping pong and pool. Super convenient to yummy places to eat like The Yellow Deli across the road and Aldi, Woolworths and Big W just around the corner. A great shared kitchen, common room and dining space. Had a great community feel with fellow travellers being very considerate to each other.

Disability friendly. No stairs at Entrance. Ramps to kitchen and lounge area. Lift to lower floor. Stayed in a 4 bed room. Emergency Exit is also on the lower floor. Disabled toilet combined with disabled shower located on main floor.

A fantastic location and price point. Walking distance to everything you need and public transport on your doorstep. Easy parking options if you have a car. Staff are really friendly and social, made it feel like home while still being professional. Lots of space to relax after bit days filled with hiking and exploring!

Very well located, cheap and cheerful. It's a very old property and the standard of accommodation reflects that. We had a private room with ensuite which was very dated, but suited our needs for a single night. Staff were friendly and helpful. Be aware that there is no TV in the rooms or anywhere on the property that I could see. If that's important to you then this won't suit. There are generous shared common areas, kitchen etc. It's more of a young person's venue/backpacker style of accommodation (we are retirees), but fine for a night or two if older, families etc.

Pros: Large kitchen area for families and groups to eat. Bathroom & bedroom were clean.

Cons: Unfortunately we had a sleepless night because of the heavy loud doors. From our bedroom, we could hear every time someone in the hallway opened and closed their door at night. This was pretty unavoidable as there is no way to quietly close the doors to every room/shared bathroom.

We stayed in a private room with shared bathroom and it was great for a cheap price! Nothing flashy, but had everything we need. The social areas of this hostel are really good, and the kitchen is well stocked. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to stay close to Scenic World or 3 sisters (30 mins walk)

Great location right in the heart of Katoomba shopping and restaurant district. Easy walk from train station. Buses to echo point are a 2 min short walk away. You can also walk to echo point (30mins). YHA rooms are clean. Building and facilities are a little dated and could do with a upgrade.

Average hostel in a gorgeous historic building

Reasonably priced and very central. Good breakfast, but extortionately priced by student standards ($12 I think). I couldn’t afford it so brought some small groceries from the supermarket. Staff were friendly, but a bit checked out. Could definitely use a deep cleaning as they smell like a locker room. Bathrooms were reasonably clean.

Charming old lodge

Generally clean and comfortable hostel housed in a very old historic 19th century building, which of course shows signs of its age with creaking floors throughout. The building itself is beautiful and definitely has a lot of character and charm. Pros: Very central, less than a 10 minute walk from the train station, and only one block from the bus to Echo Point & the Three Sisters. Cons? Expensive breakfast for a hostel, and no free tea/coffee (which unfortunately is the norm in Australia). Diverse clientele of all ages. Common areas were clean, inviting, but the dorm rooms could definitely use some refurbishment and smelled of sweat. Overall, a reasonably comfortable stay and I would consider it for a repeat visit.

I visited YHA Katooma with my now wife 10 years ago had better memory back then. The deco of the place did not change much and feeling a bit dated. As I am now older, I am expecting a bit more comfort, such as air con and bar fridge which is missing from YHA. Also, cleanliness could have been better as the room did not get cleaned if stayed for multiple days.

I think maybe having a row of large pots with pencil pines will make an eco friendly wind barrier where people sit outside in winter to enjoy outdoor area during the day. Or bunching up shrubs as a border around the seating can have uplighting as well to be nice to look at at night

We’ve never used a YHA before and thought at 79 we were probably way too old to start. However we were completely wrong it was perfect for our needs, quiet despite having 2 large groups of school children and the staff apologetic for the noise which we only heard when they were arriving at a reasonable time Right next door to an Aldi and on the main street of Katoomba it could not be more convenient. Our ensuite double was clean and comfortable and fully equipped.

Very clean overall.
Kitchen organised but with many people using it can get to needing an extra tidy. plenty of fridge space, but only one small freezer, so don't buy a packet of ice creams before checking there's room.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Comfortable common areas to sit and read, watch tv, have a chat with other travelers.
Needs comfortable, towels of good quality.
Lovely outdoor areas to sit in the sun or cool evening air.
Very secure.
Will stay again and recommend to travelers on a budget.

Really fantastic staff. Everyone was super helpful, cheerful and professional. The kitchen is well supplied and the common areas are nice and inviting. It’s also a uniquely charming quasi-art deco building.

Great location. Aldi next door. Wallies and a bottle shop around the corner. Many and varied restaurants within a few minutes walking. 20 minutes walk to a great hiking trail.

If you’ve never been, the Blue Mountains are spectacular! A hiker’s paradise. Many beautiful trails easily accessed.

I stayed just one night before my big day of abseiling/canyoning that started at 8:45am. I booked a girls-only dorm and I was the only one in the room for that night. Lucky. The guy at the reception was friendly. The bedroom was clean, the kitchen was large, and the lounge was inviting with plenty of sofas.
Only 10 mins from Katoomba Station, 20 mins to the world-famous Echo Point to view Three Sisters. So close that I went to see the Sisters both at night and early in the morning. I could avoid all the crowd and was the only one standing at the viewing platform.

Very basic hostel accommodation with limited amenities such as toiletries. Decor and furnishings were basic and dated. However this is a hostel designed for backpackers and youngsters who are much more interested in cheap accommodation and a lively social scene. For them, it represents good value. Reception staff were exceptionally helpful.

Stayed in winter with kids. All facilities and room were very clean, comfortable and spacious. Kids had heaps of space to move around and play. Enjoyed the communal kitchen, sofas, tv room, and fireplace. Also, the hostel is metres away from Aldi, Woolworth, Big W, Target, shops, restaurants and cafes. The Explorer Bus stop is also just across the road. It was very quiet when we were there.

Stayed here overnight with two teens in a family room with ensuite. Great location, on site parking, great big common areas, pool table and tv room great. Would stay again for a 2-3 day visit no problem.

Unauthorised charges which were inconsistent with t&c of my booking through hotels.com we’re twice made to my credit card, well in advance of my stay. Ended up paying double transaction charges on my foreign credit card because of this when I wanted to pay in cash and had informed hostel of this. Hotels.com agreed charges should not have been made. Reception staff agreed it was strange I had been charged but were unable to help as manager on holiday and whilst we asked them to get manager to contact us we heard nothing since. Note you can’t avail of YHA discount if book through hotels.com, we ended up paying to join YHA even though we already members. Parking on street as car park was full. Room was basic but comfy and clean. Bring shampoo as it’s not provided.

Family of 2 adults + 4 children trip

Rooms: we stayed in the family room with 2 bunk beds (1 with a double bed on the bottom) and a single bed. The bunk bed for 3 people was in the \"sun room\", it was good but it would be better if the curtain was a tad longer (the lights coming though the gaps were a bit bright). The heather was great (although it was not that cold on the night we stayed).
Common area: the facilities are good, huge kitchen, well organised. A cloth to clean/ dry the tables would be a good add on to the tea towels and sponges.
Bathroom: good, with heather. The shower is pretty weak, but I believe they do it to save water (thumbs up for that) as some people like to have long showers. Clean, I was impressed with the stainless steel used in the shower's floor and benches.
Lockers: they have HUGE lockers where you can leave you luggage before/ after you stay, big help if you don't want to carry your luggage around.
Staff: 5 stars for Tony, from the booking time to the time we stayed there.
Other guests: it was school holiday so lots of families, great atmosphere.

A hostel in need of a renovation

Friebdly staff, the hostel itself is a bit of a distance from the train station. If you have luggage be prepared for a workout since there are hills between the station and the hostel. If you have the explorer bus pass you can take that bus and hop off at stop no.2. The hostel is just across the street from that stop. The condition of the hostel seems ok in the lounge and kitchen area. The room itself shows the age. Paint is peeling off the wall with very dirty carpet and rusted pipes. If you are considering the queen room with ensuite, you are better off getting a proper room at nearby motels for the same price.

The hostel is very nice and clean, the location is perfect to visite the blue Mountains!! The commun area is great and plenty of space, even for cooking! This is a very family friendly hostel that we did enjoy with the kids. Two downside while we were there: 1) the internet was down for two days (not there fault but it was upsetting as we needed it) and the pool table was out of order (not that we needed it but when we booked it was a plus thinking of having few games during our stay). 2) Look like some people live there... not that we care but when they are in front of the tv (the only one in hostel) all day and would not let the kids watch a movie, even after few times asking, it is frustrating.
Overall we had a great stay and would recommand it!

The dorm rooms were a decent size and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there were all the facilities provided that you need for entertainment, cooking, tourist information etc. The location was quite good with easy walking access to the shops, the train station and some of the walks through the national park. Would have no issues with staying here again next time i visit the blue mountains

Close to bus station and supermarket. With coin locker can be use after check out. The bath room and kitchen still can be use after check out. The room at ground floor next to the lawn will had a lot of flying insect stay with you. No fan or air conditioner at the room. The room was sultry during daytime.
