The main bathroom light flickered and I had to turn it off. The light over the basin did not work at all. I would not use the shower over bath for safety reasons.

A lovely historic guest house in need of love. In my room, the blind had no pull, requiring me (a senior) to climb onto the window seat to close it. The curtains were partially off the hooks, the tv remote didn’t work and furniture had missing drawer pulls. One push out window catch was broken which was probably an WHS issue , hopefully they would not let a toddler be in the room as the window seat / wide opening window on the 1 st floor would have been a safety concern. Very steep stairs which were difficult for me as I have hip problems. Very noisy water pipes. I would love to see the historic building treated with the care it warrants…

Leura House is a stunning old home in a fantastic location, just a short walk from town, offering plenty of charm and history. However, despite its potential, our stay did not live up to expectations based on the website’s description.

One of the biggest disappointments was the lack of an onsite restaurant or breakfast service, both of which were outlined on the website but were unavailable during our stay. Additionally, the room’s furnishings and amenities left much to be desired—the mattress was old and overly firm, and the pillows were so flat we had to purchase replacements from Kmart.

Temperature control was another issue. Guests have no control over the heating, which is centrally managed and only turned on when the property decides. With daytime temperatures dropping to 2 degrees, this was far from ideal, as the heating could not be manually adjusted.

The bathroom also presented challenges. The shower door was broken, making it difficult to enter or exit, and the water temperature was inconsistent. Despite setting the hot water to its maximum and turning off cold water entirely, the shower was only lukewarm.

Leura House has tremendous potential, but unfortunately, due to these issues, we would not return.

Leura House has a lovely ambience - warm and welcoming on the ground floor, especially the lounge area. Finn who was the only staff member on site on Saturday night was checking guests in and showing them to their rooms. As it is a heritage building there is no lift. my room was on the top floor up 3 narrow flights of stairs. Finn carried my suitcase upstairs on arrival and downstairs on checkout. Leura House is good value.

My room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the garden and great views of Leura in the distance. The central heating wasnt turned on in my room (plumbing not working on enquiry) and the overnight temp was 6C. I was gettign cold so I got up at 3am and turned on the oil column heater & put on my dressing gown & went to sleep. It will be great when this historic guesthouse offers drinks at sunset and breakfast in the morning to guests!

This is a stunning building with a rich history. Beautiful architecture, beautiful grounds, warm and friendly service. The room, while functional, was disappointing. I loved the antique furniture, the main bed was a stunning four poster, however the mattress was so hard I could not sleep and my back is really paying for it. The sofa was extremely uncomfortable and I spent most of my stay there sitting on the floor. Please update these rooms with their high ceilings, beautiful ceiling roses and rich history, in this truly beautiful building to ensure guests are comfortable and will be keen to return. This building deserves nothing less.

I really looked forward to staying here but was really disappointed.

The house, built in 1880, looks great from the outside however the inside is not quite the same. The pictures posted don't capture the reality. Don't come here for

Rooms are accessible from steep narrow stairs - not a complaint just a note to travellers. I explained the room we were offered, up two flights of stairs and then along a sloping walkway, with no lift, would be difficult for us to carry luggage up. A call was made and we were offered one of two rooms. The first on the ground floor was an immediate no thanks. We were then moved to the first floor. Tx to the reception who carried my bag up.

Even with the late room change, the room had some serious issues. Mould on curtains and windows, broken pulls and knobs, broken hairdryer and curtain falling off.
I do not say this because I'm being mean, rather, it should be a priority for the owner to repair/clean these things before they cause a health risk. And before charging over $200 a night.

Despite the sign on the fence saying 'restaurant' and 'lounge bar' there is none, no breakfast or other food on offer.

It is fully understandable that the cost of upkeep of what is probably a heritage building is huge but charge less and lower the customers expectations please.

Room 2 needs the curtain fixed so the ExIT sign is not visible through the night.

Though full of history & “character” this property is outdated and not suitable accommodation. We thought, from the fotos, we were getting something special for 160$Aust. Horrible. Top floor, no lift, no A/C, small room; so we moved down a floor; not any better but at least a shorter climb. Dreadful stay.
The young lady was very pleasant and did her best.

The owners have put in great effort to make a charming and unique stay for guests. What a beautiful piece of history, like an amazing window into the Federation history of Leura. The room was super comfortable with a beautiful bed, well appointed amenities and there was also a lovely downstairs lounge. The grounds are very peaceful, and the property being an easy short walk into Leura shops made it such an ideal place to stay. Thank you for making our weekend peaceful and relaxing, unique and a real treat.

Beautiful old building close to the town

An old house with large rooms and a garden, good to have a bath and traditional shower. No housekeeping but not needed for three nights and in fact easier not to have to bother.
Interesting arrival with guided tour on the mobile phone, we did not see any staff during our stay.
Nice bar and sitting room which is not working at present but good to sit with your own food and drink (glasses and plates provided)

The property is very out dated and for the price you pay it is too much for what is does or doesn’t have to offer. No fridge or amenities in the room, very dusty and very old. On arrival place looks abandoned and haunted. The room we stayed in was original from the 1800s. Would not recommend.

That's three floors with eleven rooms being attended to by one person and she was a pack packer who had been in the role for four weeks and is also receptionist and cleaner. Great location. We appreciated the tour and learning the history of the property.
There were signs of the refurbishment work underway. The sitting room appears to have been completely redone.
Our room (executive room on the top floor) needs some attention. The carpets are soiled, sofa needs to go, drapes stained and lacy parts stained and sagging. Bed linens need to be replaced.
Bathroom was clean and great shower. Loved the little balcony, took a chair outside first evening to enjoy the view.
The stairs leading up to the top floor badly need attention (different to the other stairs in the building that reflect the vintage charm).
Lots of potential, hope the new owner can bring this property back to life.

The bedside lamps were woeful.Could not read by them even with main light on
The electrics were positively dangerous with the powerboard cord far too short and the kettle cord barrky reachi g the powerboard.The lighter coloured column did not serm to work after 5 mins it would cut out so made do with one which you could only feel the geat of if you were 50cms or less infronyt of it.Hence we were cold and the 1 blanket was not enough.
To save the wood on your bedside tables from hot mugs or water wouldca coaster for each not be a hood idea.
Iam sorry this is negative but perhaps if things were changed future guests would enjoy thier stays

Nice historic house - 1st house built in Leura with an interesting past.. dont be put off by the dated bathroom - they are trying to preserve the history rather than modernise. Very quiet place only a few kins walk from the station. Staff very friendly. When we stayed the lounge and bar was closed and we were allowed to take a bottle of wine and sit/relax... Excellent choice for a short weekend getaway..

I loved my little getaway at Leura House. I was in the executive room right at the top. It was so quiet! The view was gorgeous sitting on the balcony, especially in the early evening and sunrise and there were lots of birds to watch. It was so close the excellent Leura shopping strip which was great. Rukshan was friendly and helpful and suggested places to eat and the stunning nearby lookout and the best time to visit. The room was clean and comfortable and the wifi was perfect. There were stairs which didn't bother me, I found it all really charming and love how Rukshan is preserving the heritage of the building. Ruskshan was happy to provide milk, wine glasses or anything else I'd needed. There was a lovely lounge area that people were enjoying and plenty of chairs to lounge in in the garden, plus a daybed.
Hoping to come back when I next need a recharge.

Not a good experience. No service. no breakfast, no restaurant, no bar. No staff on site overnight. Milk for self serve tea was a month out of date and curdled when added to hot water.

Upstairs fire escape was though my son's room, with a key in a break box outside the room so any one could get in/out. Fire escape in his room was obstructed by the television placed on a table directly in front the fire door.

I used two \"reward nights\" to pay for one of the two rooms. No refund given despite the appalling lack of service.

Awesome location. At first I thought it was a wee way out of town - but its a very short walk across the road to the Leura Village. The House itself is huge and we were on the third floor - with narrow stair access only. The stairs were worth the climb as we had great views from our balcony. The birdlife is amazing - and very noisey but we loved it. WiFi on the top floor is touch and go. They really need a WiFi extender to give slightly better coverage to the top floor, but I was on holiday so it didnt matter. The bed was fairly ancient and needs a new mattress or at least a memory foam topper - I would only give it a 5 out of ten for comfort. (please fix this Bronwyn- it will make a big difference to your reviews). There were UHT capsules and basic tea/coffee facilities, so I'd suggest taking your own milk if you use milk. There was a small fridge in the room - The UHT milk is dubious and lumpy. The communal area is great downstairs - and is work in progress to restart the kitchen/bar. It would've been great to have tea/coffee/water available there instead of walking back up 3 flights stairs for a drink. Maybe next time. Oh and on arrival, if reception is unattended the outside door is usually locked so you have to ring reception - which is a problem if you are from overseas and havent got mobile roaming. A doorbell would be great or a whatsapp number to contact via wifi. Yes I would stay there again. Great value for money.

overall it was not a good experience. Check in went well and the attendant even let us check in a bit earlier also gave us decent recommendations for the \"things to do\" in the area. However the small cottage we rented was extremely outdated. The carpets were vacuumed but still felt dirty, drinking glasses had old film on them and looked like they haven't been cleaned. Weather was rainy and damp. House heating elements were 2 portable electric heaters. Gas fire place didn't work. Renting occupancy was for 5 people but somehow we got charged for the 5th person. Having it in mind that singel bed was in an entry way/foe (thats fine) and it had no space heater provided nor heated bed pad like two other beds had.
There was a fridge but no bottled drinking water provided. Instant coffee, tea, creamer was present but electric water kettle had seen better days. There were also 4 drinking glasses and 4 coffee mugs available, NOT 5 - but they made sure to charge extra for the 5th person.
Property manager took in person feedback patiently but offered no solutions or compensation. They claimed to be in the process of remodeling and clearly understood they are offering bad product for more than full price. Very disappointed with property and management. This property shouldn't be rented till ready or offered at extreme discount with note for future renters of the conditions.

While our stay was ok we didn’t feel the property was very user friendly. We weren’t allowed to have a cup of tea or glass of wine in the lounge as food and drinks were prohibited. The rooms aren’t large and we wanted to sit somewhere else. Comfortable chairs on the verandahs would have allowed for greater enjoyment of the garden and the possibility of a cuppa!

Great location and the hygiene was good.
But the mattress was very bed and sinked in and very uncomfortable to sleep on.
They were still showing in the website that there was a dining for breakfast but that was not working.
The heater in the room was not working which they had replace with a smaller one which tetool a long time to hit the room.
I asked the lady in the reception if I could do a late check out as we checked late but she did say that she could not do that as the hotel was full while in the two days yhay I was there were only 3 car park only !!
And yes the rooms I have very different from what they look on the pictures they promote on.

Fabulous property and historical building. Had that haunted house feel and look to it, which my partner and I loved. Property was easy to find and close to everything. My only (very minor) criticism was that the mattress was a tad hard for oir liking, but that's a personal opinion and nothing against the House. Loved the House, loved our room. Anne was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the room was very basic, mattress was hard the pillows were lumpy and the tea and coffee facilities were like something from the 80's. There was a bar fridge in the room but it didn't work and the tv didn't have a guide option so you had no idea what was on and where the stations were. We paid extra for a balcony room but no chairs to sit out on and enjoy the view. The bathroom had no vanity to put anything so you had to keep all toiletries in the bedroom. Plus a hand towel would of been handy.The property was clean though.

The property has lots of potential but is very run down. Apart from that there is one heater for 3 rooms, the carpet was filthy, the beds not made properly (main bed base sheet elastic up and blanket not to the bottom and single bed sheet tucked to wall so as soon as you get in sheets out), electric blanket only worked on one side of the bed, no hand towels or face washers and I could go on. An extremely disappointing stay.

Lovely old historic house, but it’s a bit rundown and needs to be better kept, the photos online did not match the actual room we got, was very cold also and not homey. I guess I had a high expectations as I have stayed in other guest houses/BnB’s in Katoomba for the same price but way better service, amenities and lovely cooked fresh breakfast to order. I understand its been raining a lot lately but house smelt like it had been closed up for over 12 months It took my breath away Didnt stay around for breakfast Got out of there 1st thing in the morning Woukd not recommend thsi Other guest at the time said the same thing They need to look at this seriously

When i entered the hostel I felt like i time slipped in to the olden days, i really like the nostalgic feeling about the hostel.
Very comfortable i'd like to stay longer next time relax and have a tea in that balcony :)

I had stayed here a number of years ago and the comparison between then and now was very disappointing. It was previously a rather luxurious experience, now a little faded.

Hotel has old world charm
Clean and tidy, room was very comfortable
Gary, the host was very friendly and helpful with details of hotel and local area. Would stay again

The breakfast was most disappointing, from reading previous reviews on breakfast on how just toast cereal and canned fruit salad! I don't think I will be back 😕
