Excellent room and staff very pleasant. Arrived early and asked if the room was ready? Was told I could access it early if I paid an extra €50. I declined. If it is not ready I understand. But if it is ready why should I pay and extra €50 to put my bags by in it and use the loo two hours early. Seems absolute extortion and spoilt an otherwise excellent stay.

Lovely Hotel Few Little Niggles

2nd time staying here. We returned because it was so wonderful. 2 night stay.Beautiful room, excellent pool, location and breakfast. Sadly not as quiet and peaceful as our 1st visit. Were travelling with 2 elderly dogs and our room was 28 degrees overly hot and the air conditioning was perminently turned off by the hotel. Reception said it was because weather hadnt been hot enough. They didnt know when it would be turned on again. We were later told it had been turned back on for us but it didnt work in our room for the whole stay. Reception could not supply any milk for coffee on 1st day and no coffee was provided on the second day. Wall lights above bed were wonky and the TV on the wall was at a 45 degree angle due to loose bracket...very minor issues I know but this stood out in comparison with our previous experience and attention to detail. Not the hotels fault but a inconsiderate guest left two very noisy barking dogs in ground floor room on first night and we had constant loud barking until late into the night so I feel for the Hotel and can understand why Hotels would refuse dogs staying. On the Sunday Hotel staff gathered for a drink and chat from 6.30pm to 9.30pm outside reception and to be honest given we had the balcony doors open to try and cool our room at times they were quite loud and was a constant background noise in the room, again it was not as peaceful as we expected. If it had been guests rather than staff it probably wouldnt have noticed so much.

Great service, brothers that are part of family who have owned since late 1800s were pleasant, helpful and professional as was the staff.
Lovely, historic 0roperty in a beautiful setting. Wonderful spa facilities (be sure to reserve ahead). Part of motivization for staying there was cuisine at the Chateau... would have been good to know dinner wouldn't be served on the Sunday evening nor on Monday (May Day).

Loved it so much we will visit again and again!

Fantastic stay. We let them know it was our honeymoon and they gave us a lovely alps themed present waiting for us in our room. Everyone we interacted with was personable. They know what customer service is!!! (Not always the case in France) great job. We also enjoyed the spa and it was lovely. We will absolutely be returning as regulars.

La Commanderie is a very pleasant and unique small hotel. The location is quiet about 20 minutes drive from Grenoble center. The decor seems authentic, the room, bed and pillows were very comfortable. The people are charming. There is a pleasant 15m outdoor pool, and on site parking is free. Breakfast was very good though at 17euros each it should be. While clearly aiming to be more upmarket there are surprising flashes of parsimony: it’s the only spa hotel I’ve been to where the guests are charged 10 euro per hour to use the spa; the room has a kettle but only paper cups, and no milk. There are no glasses in the room (plastic only) nor individual shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom. Small things but they just took the shine off an otherwise excellent stay.

Historic hotel with beautiful gardens and okay pool. Very tranquil looking into the mountains in the background. Once you get outside of the perimeter, a good Italian restaurant but not much else. Room was spacious and comfortable, would stay again.

Pleasant hotel with proud family history

A pleasant hotel in a picturesque building with a proud family history, over many centuries. The room was spacious and comfortable but showed its age. The staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant of a good standard, The food was perhaps over fussy for our taste and pricey.
We found the location very handy for Grenoble, and the drive up to the mountain villages of the Chartreuse region was excellent and scenic. We also found a very good French/Italian chain restaurant in the commercial centre of Eybens called Ristorante Del Artes.

Super hotel, great location and facilities

We used this stay as a quick stopover on the return leg back to UK via car. We found it quite pleasant, staff were friendly and the room and setting was excellent. I would definitely return and stay longer to take advantage of the nice swimming pool, gym and sauna they have.
The evening meal was slightly on the expensive side but it was quality and we both enjoyed. Breakfast was good with fresh ingredients.
Staff were excellent and helpful. They even gave us a few large bags of ice for our cold box for the trip home.
We would happily recommend this hotel.

An unforgettable experience

From the moment we drove up the beautiful driveway and viewed our accommodations, we were spellbound by this hotel a large mentioned that had existed for over 500 years, it had been used variously is a hospital château and hotel..Our room had a beautiful view of the pool and garden and the room was spacious and comfortable the service was outstanding and the restaurant at the hotel served interesting and delicious cuisine

Nice Property

Its on the edge of Grenoble with stunning views of the mountains and located in a small town. The property itself has the makings of a good conference or wedding site, and has an exceptional restaurant. From what I could tell, the rooms themselves are variable.... some are better than others... and I think that is just a function of the age of the property and the different buildings that are adjoined together to make the hotel work. On this trip business trip, I stayed in 6 or so different hotels, so by this stage, I was used to being greeted with a warm smile, and I was hoping for one of the better rooms... which didn't quite transpire! It was a dry, functional welcome, and I think we got one of the mediocre rooms .. it smelt a little musty, maybe for their overflow clients. But, as I was walking around, you could see into other rooms that looked absolutely stunning - with really great views.

Lovely hotel on the outskirts of Grenoble

This is a really beautiful setting and the buildings and gardens were immaculate. Well greeted by reception staff and everyone was very helpful. Unfortunately the restaurant was full - do pre-book if you want to eat there - but staff helped us find a good local alternative (nothing like as fancy but suited us fine). Rooms are a little simpler than the public areas but comfortable and with lovely views. Plenty of easy car parking which was welcome.

A hidden gem

Nestling in the suburbs of Grenoble, it was hard to believe we were surrounded by houses. Beautiful gardens and buildings provide a real feeling of elegance.

The food was excellent and the furnishings very luxurious. Dinner was typically French and most enjoyable. Breakfast was amazing with everything from bacon and eggs to the usual continental style. The choice was vast though and probably one of the widest choices I've ever come across.

It would be easy to criticise certain parts of the hotel that could be described as tired or in need of a little paint. I prefer to look at it as a real taste of France.

A lovely, old hotel in a lovely old area around Grenoble. The staff were very welcoming and inclusive to our 4 member non-french speaking staff. The meals we had were terrific, dinner was in the top 5 meals of our 3 week European stay. Lovely bathrooms. Bedroom looked a little worn, yet our sleep was terrific and the bed linens were very nice. The rooms were impeccably clean.
We did not use the pool due to our short stay but I would not hesitate to do so. Nor would I hesitate to revisit them and bring friends and family.

We were greeted very warmly but professionally . Sarah spoke perfect English, and was very helpful with a situation that arose outside of our stay with them. The room was large, airy, beautifully decorated, and included everything one might expect in a suite, but we were only charged what we paid for a regular double room in other areas of France. The on site dining room provided one of the most delightful dinners we had in our 15 days in France. What a treat to be able to enjoy a perfectly paired ( by their Sommelier) wine with dinner and not worry about driving back to the Hotel ... We had only to stroll across the well lit courtyard!!! The menu is outstanding, though a little pricey. If you stay there ... plan on this dinner being your special meal of your holiday with flavors I am still dreaming of. We were invited to use their Spa
Facilities at no extra charge ( indoor and outdoor pool, workout room etc) but our time there was short and we were off the following day. A very short drive from Mulhouse ... I highly recommend this hotel /spa
Quick Note to Proprietors : the pillows on the bed are in no way up to the standard of your impeccable hotel. This is one small detail that was overlooked ...

Nice hotel in beautiful grounds in suburbs

I stayed for 2 nights in August and found it very nice. The room was fine, not small, but nothing special (no kettle, for those who like to make a cup of tea). The grounds of the hotel however are stunning - the weather was good so I spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool and in the gardens. I didn't try breakfast, but did order room service one night and the food was excellent. The hotel is about 4 miles south of Grenoble in a pleasant little village - a few shops but that's it - i wanted to stay on that side as I was heading to the Alps, so it was perfect.

Picture on hotels.com website of room was grossly misleading - instead of a large, very attractive looking period room we got a decent but very ordinary hotel room. Described as a \"Superior\" room, it was nothing of the sort (indeed it was actually their \"Charme\" standard). Received the not atypical French response to a complaint: self righteous denial.

The building is distinctive, with a lot of charm. The staff are efficient, polite and friendly. My impression is of a well run pleasant place to stay. I was disappointed not to have time to eat dinner in the restaurant but saw a lot of non-residents arriving for it.

We only used the reception and the room so we aren't able to give accurate feedback on the rest of the hotel. The room was a great size and was extremely comfortable. Considering it was very cold outside (-5 degs C) the room kept its heat and the bed was great. I slept very well. The public rooms in the hotel looked very comfortable and rather grand but we didn't have a chance to use them.

A little piece of luxury and grandeur

This is a hidden treasure near Grenoble, a hidden treasure in itself. The hotel is well appointed, gives a luxurious and serene atmosphere complete with antique furniture it was a wonderful night. We were unble to access the spa facilities and it was fully booked, but would recommend booking when you arrive to take full advantage of the property.

Friendly and helpful English speaking staff. The (Charme) rooms were nice although our bathroom needed an update. Hotel and gardens generally had a nice feel. Quiet location.

Biggest disappointment was that we were unable to take dinner at their restaurant (one of the reasons for booking). We arrived too late on a Friday, Saturday they had a private function, and the restaurant was closed on Sundays and Mondays! (which is not indicated on their website). However they were very helpful in making a reservation at Hôtel Restaurant Chavant in Bresson - a 15 minute walk from the hotel - which was excellent. Suggest you check availability and make reservation if you want to eat at the hotel restaurant before booking a room.

Frequent bus service into the centre of Grenoble - just 20 mins.

Would go back - if we can get a table!

La chambre est de bonne dimension, très propre cependant le lit était pas très confortable. Attention si vous n’y allez pas pour le SPA , cet hôtel est loin de tout, et il n’est pas facile de s’alimenter ni à l’hôtel, ni à proximité, les commerces sont souvent fermés. Ça prend une voiture….

Ruhig gelegenes Hotel mit großem Garten. Hübsch eingerichtete Zimmer mit guten Betten und kleinem Kühlschrank. Sehr gutes Frühstücksbuffet für 18 Euro p.P. - alternativ gibt es nur 6 Minuten zu Fuß entfernt eine gute Bäckerei, die auch Kaffee anbietet.

Bien que très proche du périphérique grenoblois, l’hôtel et son parc semblent coupés du monde et surtout du bruit. Le calme règne en maître et tous les clients sont au diapason. L’accueil est chaleureux, le personnel attentionné. Seul bémol, un cheveu féminin noir dans la baignoire, il n’appartenait ni à mon fils ni à moi. Dommage, tout le reste était parfait, y compris le message d’au revoir du patron en personne. Expérience à renouveler dès qu’une nouvelle occasion se présentera

Nous avons passé un très agréable moment en famille dans cet hôtel. L’accueil du personnel est top, les services proposés sont au dessus d’un 3 étoiles, sans oublier le confort et la propreté qui était parfait.

La decoración de las habitaciones es antigua, acorde con la estética del edificio, yo hubiese cuidado más los acabados al pintar las puertas, el que algo se vea antiguo, no tiene que significar que se vea viejo y mal acabado.
La cama es comodísima, te atrapa, caes dormido antes de caer en la cama.
