I was astonished at the lack of cleaning in the room. The duvet covers weren’t changed. The bins weren’t emptied once in 5 days, bathroom surfaces weren’t wiped and neither were the sinks. Literally the duvet was folded in half, pillows plumped and towels replaced only if we’d put them in the bath. A couch blanket had fallen off and it was just left in a crumpled in a heap on the floor the whole time. Definitely no vacuuming took place either. Unexpected and unexplained.

My main disappointment: when you opt for ‘book and pay later’, the hotel pays itself immediately instead of on the day of arrival or departure. This should not be permitted.

Perfect location - about 5 min walk to the old town. The building is very old, well renovated and modernized. Room was OK. When the shower was not used for a couple of hours unpleasant smell from the drainage was slightly disturbing. Air conditioning not effective even when switched on no air flow could be felt.

The lack of a spa reduces this to an average hotel for the area. I was disappointed to find on arrival that the spa was closed and had been for some time. The name „Schranne“ derives from old-high-German „scranna“ meaning „barn“. Not far from the hotel you can find a huge building which served as deposit for grain in the Middle Ages.
The square in front of the hotel is named after this historical sight. The main building of the hotel was built in the 17th century by a noble family and transformed into a hotel by the owner's grandparents in 1960.
