This was the first stop on a 2-week trip we took with our 2 teen kids. We had to park outside the walls but the walk wasn't too bad. We felt like we were staying in someone's home. The cottage was basic. No air conditioning but our beds were comfortable. It was a good central location.

- Convenient location
- Beautiful hotel and room
- Clean room and nice bathroom
- There is an automated process to checkin/checkout, but typing in information (like address, etc...) on a screen is a bit tedious

Cons:
- Not much in terms of amenities by default in the room (Fridge, kettle, etc...)
- The reception area was empty most of the time and you have to call to get service
- Internet speed over wifi was very low (700Kbps) and it kept disconnecting

P.S: Most of the hotels don't have elevators in this city. This hotel is no exception.

If it's available - book it! Delightful stay!

We stayed one night, and from smooth check-in to friendly check-out everything was terrific. Perfect location to enjoy the old town, especially later in the evening and early morning with out the day trip tourists. Make sure to allow time to enjoy the garden in back. A rare quiet respite in any European city, so peaceful. Room was clean, bright, spacious by European standards, same with bathroom. We arrived by train, easy walking distance if you travel light. Definitely recommend!

Charming Hotel in a beautiful Town.

The Boutiquehotel Goldene Rose is the perfect place to stay if you are visiting Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It's near the famous Plonlein in the Altstadt, which makes it just steps from the access to the city walls. The rooms were nicely appointed, the staff was friendly and super helpful. Close to restaurants and attractions. And breakfast was delicious.

Added bonus... Diamond the Hotel Dog will greet you at breakfast.

Right on the main street of Rothenburg ob Tauber. Only difficulty is the parking - but close by and fairly reasonable price - like 6 euros a day. Great hostess, wonderful breakfasts, quiet, super clean.

This was a very nice hotel right close to the medieval main gate of the lovely old town Rothenburg in Central Germany. It was located very convenient to start our walking tours around the town hall and all other historic sites. The rooms were spacious, clean and well decorated with rose patterns in the curtains, carpets, public areas and even toilets. All the servicing and reception staff were friendly, polite and helpful. In fact, we had been very late for check-in, which was required before 8PM, owing to severe traffic jam caused by road accident. Fortunately, we had received very sincere and heartfelt assurance from the staff through the telephone to calm us down on our way. We were most thankful to be able to access our rooms by the keys left at the reception upon our arrival almost an hour after the last check-in. In the next morning, we were also amazed by the beautifully decorated restaurant downstairs with very enjoyable food and drinks in the buffet breakfast included in our reservation. Although we had to park our cars outside the old town at a small charge, we could pull up to the hotel front door for loading our bags before leaving. Thank you again to all of you in the Boutiquehotel Goldene Rose Rothenburg !

Over all we were very satisfied with our stay. The owner is very personable and the room was clean and the breakfast excellent.

We had planned to come back and stay again at a future visit but were disappointed when an extra charge was not taken off our bill. There was a misunderstanding which we thought was resolved but unfortunately it wasn't and we will have to take up the issue with Expedia. Other than that we were satisfied.

Expedia guests also need to know there is no lift and the steps are rather steep.

Marion was so friendly and helpful. Great location to everything to see, one beginning spot for walking the walls is so close. The only reason the comfort score was lower was the hard mattress which is completely normal in Europe. Nice hot shower, breakfast had many choices. Marion was very informative and helpful with history and the town. The original Night watchman tour is a must.

A perfect hotel for a couple

Everything about our visit to the Boutiquehotel Goldene Rose was excellent! The staff were very friendly and spoke great English; the room was spacious, clean, and comfortable; and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful. There was even a friendly dog on site, too!

For the hotel itself, the location was perfect for us: very close to the southern entrance to the old town and also close to a parking lot outside the walled area. Parking for 24 hours was only 5.50 Euro compared to over 15 euro if we'd opted to park inside the walls. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with a variety of juices, coffee, tea, milk, and water for drinks; breads of various kinds with plenty of topping choices like jams and honey, eggs, meats, cheeses, cereals -- basically, something for everyone!

We loved our stay and would definitely stay again! Another selling point was that this hotel was one of four, I believe, that allowed me to redeem a Hotels.com Rewards Night, so that helped save on overall cost.

Perfect location

The Goldene Rose is in a perfect location in Rothenburg. It is within the city walls and just one guard tower away from the city square. The hotel is clean and quaint and full of charm. The owner is so kind and friendly! (And speaks English very well). They have a friendly dog in the lobby to great you. We stayed in the guest house. It was a little drafty, but we cranked up the heat and put on some socks to keep warm. I wasn't thrilled that the bathroom was in the hallway separate from the room but it wasn't that terrible.The grounds are clean and pretty and it looks like the patio would be a lovely place in the spring. The breakfast was traditional German and really good! We would stay here again!

Rude manager no wifi in rooms

The reception lady (owner of the property i think) was very rude. When we enquired about the wifi not working she straight away said \" its not my problem mine works\" and then \"its a free service offered so it doesn't matter that it doesn't work and if i don't like it i should buy the hotel and run it myself\"
With out this lady the property would be perfect. Great location nice and comfortable rooms. Just one very rude manager and no wifi in rooms.

My cousin and I both got rooms at this charming small hotel. It's behind the walls of the medival town of Rothenburg, with no shortage of resturants and beer seconds away. I'm not that big on reviews or recommendations, but this hotel felt like I was back at my parents house with a delicious Easter breakfast waiting for me!!

We were welcomed by Marion and Diamond the dog upon arrival. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and big and the breakfast that was included offered many items to eat. It was so much fun to stay here and a perfect location to walk everywhere. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Great second honeymoon after 48 years

Betsy and I had stayed elsewhere while in Rothenberg a couple of years ago and enjoyed the hotel. However, our stay at the Goldene Rose was far superior. The room was very nice, the food was excellent and Lara, the person on duty, was a real jewel. She made our stay especially memorable by fixing us extra little goodies during breakfast and telling us about the fun things to see and do in the village.

Very very bad treatment!

When I initially booked this hotel, I was supposed to travel there as an individual. When my friend asked to come along, I asked Expedia to make a request to the hotel. I had originally booked it as a double room for single use. Expedia informed me that the hotel had agreed for an additional person, at no extra cost. I had specifically asked if there was any additional cost, and Expedia informed me there was not.

When my friend and I arrived as the hotel, we were of course shocked when asked to pay an additional charge for the extra person! When I tried to explain that Expedia had not informed us of the additional charge, the woman at the front desk, Marien, became very angry. She turned red in the face and raised her voice. She made it very clear she did not want to listen to my explanation and neither did she believe that there was a misunderstanding with Expedia. She implied, in her attitude towards us, that we were trying to be dishonest. I found this extremely offensive as a seasoned traveler who always pays her way. My friend and I were also quite shocked at how angry Marien got, and the rage she went into. She complained, at that time, that Expedia, whose employees are in India, were calling her at 2am to try and change my booking. It was quite a scary experience to see her so incensed, even when we were not refusing to pay the extra charge. I wonder what would have happened, had we refused altogether to pay the extra charge!

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a must on your German tour. This medieval town is gorgeous and caters to tourists. Our hotel was lovely and in a good location. However we stayed in the newly renovated Gust House in the back and iit did not have internet service as advertised.

A small hotel with very basic facilities. Not a lot of amenities in the room or the hotel itself which is more like a hostel or bed and breakfast. It however is on a relatively quiet street. Parking was not an issue as u could park on the road in front. City centre is a short walk up the street which also had quite a few cafes and souvenir shops.

We REALLY loved our stay in this hotel INSIDE the historic walled city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber! The proprietors were welcoming and helpful; the room was clean and cute and had every comfort that we needed. The view down into cobbled historic Rothenburg was an experience not to miss. You are right in the middle of this walled-city brimming with history! Once we parked our car, we did not need it again; you can walk to all of the tourist sites in just minutes. The breakfast was fabulous; they kept refilling everything with fresh replacements.

Great little place!

Great little place. Staff nice and helpful. Good little breakfast nook with spread of cold items (no hot food). Breakfast was extra 10 Euro but worth it after drinking juice and two cups of coffee in addition to variety of food. We walked from train station- 15-20 minutes - use a map, the town is confusing to getvaround at first. Would definitely stay here again.

This is a decent value to be inside the city walls. Very easy to walk to shops and restaurants. The room itself was odd. We had a \"family suite\" in the guest house, basically the whole lower floor. However it was actually 2 separate rooms with a shared (with other guests) hall. The toilet was also separate from both rooms. If my kids had been younger, the set up wouldn't have worked as the rooms aren't connected. The room was clean but very basic. Only toiletry was hand soap. The wifi didn't work at all in the guest house so claiming free wifi in all areas is a stretch. The courtyard between the guesthouse and the rest of the hotel is filled with old, crappy, seatless furniture so you couldn't comfortably use the wifi there either. The breakfast was good. Plentiful and cute set up. The owner seemed completely put out by us nearly the whole time. She seemed friendly at first, let us check in early, but it seemed after my son expressed fear to her massive dog, her friendliness evaporated. Seemed genuinely annoyed with any questions. Once waited for 5 min hoping to get a restaurant suggestion, she was clearly on a personal call and couldn't be bothered to stop and help. My son was struggling to open the front door and she literally rolled her eyes that she had to get off her duff and help. I thought perhaps cutural differences but didn't have this experience with other hotel owners. The location is really all this place has going for it.

Easy stay for a family

We rented two rooms in the garden house for our family and the property was lovely. A little dated, but clean and welcoming. We all loved it. We felt well taken care of. In the garden house we had only one semi-public/shared bathroom but since we rented out both of the lower floor rooms this wasn't a concern at all. Just a head's up for anyone that may have issues.

Room was quiet, comfortable and we had a view over the garden. Breakfast was ok. Downside of this hotel is no lift.
We had to carry our suitcases up and down two flights of winding stairs to our room. However, the hotel is located in a good spot, right near access to the town walls, which we had a very pleasant walk around. Parking is in the car park
outside the town walls (about a 5 minute walk away). As the town gate was shut to traffic, due to the festival that was on when we were there, we had to wheel our luggage from the hotel right along to the car park. However, Rothenburg is a lovely town, worth visiting, and the festival made it all the more interesting.

Nice, cosy inn.

It doesn't feel like a hotel but a home. It's a cosy little inn within the town wall. The market square is just up the street. All the places of interests are within walking distance. The owner, Marion, is such a friendly and helpful lady. And she prepares a lovely breakfast every morning. Room is clean and comfortable. The only little inconvenience we had was with the shower. Shower curtain doesn't work well and the floor gets wet? There is also no shelf or ledge to place our toiletries in the shower stall. Otherwise, all s good. Don't miss the nightly walkabout tour conducted by the night watchman of the town at 8pm at the market square. And walking the rampart of the town wall is a must.

Clean historic hotel

Room was clean and reasonably comfortable. You will need to be able to walk upstairs with bags because they have not elevator and stairs are steep. Breakfast buffet was terrible, but free does not cost much. Location was great for seeing the historic Rothenburg ob der Tauber, which is why we went. It is a 600 year old town within a castle wall. There are good local restaurants for lunch and dinner. The staff we met were very friendly and helpful for parking and restaurant information.

Top notch customer service.

The customer service was fantastic. Very informative, accommodating, and nice. For our fourteen month old a super nice high chair was ready to go at breakfast along with a kids dish and cutlery set. We were offered warm milk, baby cereal and more for her. Breakfast for us was super as well with an assortment of fresh, quality local items. The room was clean and well appointed. Would come here again.

Convenient location, easy overnight parking 200m

Location is just inside of the city wall so easy to access the to park overnight in P1 for 5 Euros / day and not fight the crowds further inside the depths of the old city. Charming building, typical room size (not generous) and furnishings for a German 3 star tourist hotel. Good heating and large bathroom with tub. Breakfast a little better than average for this class... homemade cookies! All around fine choice for a tourist class hotel. I would return without hesitation.
