The hotel was very nice but the communication of the front reception leaves you feeling like you’re on your own because they never answer the phone, are often missing and never look at their inbox. There were several times we tried to call them because we had booked two nights and could not reach the city due to circumstances not in control as we got stranded in another town, they would not refund us, which is okay as we didn’t buy the cancellation but Expedia tried to contact them so many times and they could not get a hold of anyone at the reception or via email. If you stay here, ask all your questions if you happen to find someone at the desk in the first place, we had to wait 30 minutes because no one was available to check us in.

The basic room was very nice, the location was great, and the bed was comfortable, however the check-in staff were, while very friendly, not terribly fluent in English and messed up our desire to have breakfast at the hotel, as a consequence we were served a very lackluster breakfast after having to wait 15 minutes with zero on the tables, them not thinking there would be anyone that day. And yet we were charged full price, which was more than a bit disappointing.

Also, the hotel is virtually unstaffed all day. There was, literally, not a soul around for virtually the entirety of our 3-day, midweek stay. There is notionally a restaurant & bierstube on site, but we never saw a soul there and the lights were always off. The rooms are not cleaned in the day, simply tidied, which was a bit of a surprise as well.

I really can't recommend this hotel.

Excellent location just outside the Walled city but for a few Euros more would recommend the Hotel across the street. Breakfast left a lot to be desired. Sparse choices that were not replenished. Soft boiled eggs, sliced cheese and cold cuts, bread rolls, jam, cereal and some desserts. It was our understanding that the Breakfast was half of what the grumpy old man insisted it was. It was certainly not worth it. Also upon departure, the lady insisted that the payment had not been made for the second room. I insisted that it had. Neither owner spoke any English. After 10 minutes of discussion she acknowledged that the payment had indeed been made.

Very convenient location to explore Rothenburg

Loved the location right outside one of the main gates of Rothenburg. Great that parking was included, and we could leave the car there till after lunch on day of departure. The actual guesthouse felt authentic and was kept up well.

The hotel was perfectly situated just outside the walled city of Rothenberg and included parking. Our family was able to come and go without the stress of moving our vehicle and paying for parking. The spacious quadruple room was in a loft with charming furnishings and living spaces. The hotel staff were warm and helpful. There were many lovely flowering gardens on the property. Our family chose not to book breakfast for the additional fee so I cannot speak to that experience.

We stayed on the top floor. Very, very large suite. Old traditional feel with wood planked ceilings. Quaint. Fitting with the area. Loved the cleanliness of the place. The floors squeaky clean! Our beds were on either sides of the suite with a seating area in the centre.
This hotel is just outside the walls. We loved the area. Good parking on site too.

The location was great. The city gate is very close and it is a short direct walk to the main square. The free onsite parking was wonderful. You can park your car for the duration of your stay and avoid paid parking. The room was comfortable and quiet. We really had little interaction with the staff. The breakfast room was pleasant with a lot of natural light.

The condition of the hotel is old... we had 2 rooms. One of it is an attic, so I feel uncomfortable with the sloping roof above my bed and in the bathroom. The other room has half the heater that is not working as the knob on the heater was not in place. As such, it was cold during the night especially when it was snowing and raining.

The only good thing was the free and relatively safe parking we had.

There is no elevator and visitors may be required to carry their transatlantic luggage up three flights. No assistance is available. Restaurant would like to charge for missed reservations, even though that practice is not mentioned nor is a card number taken. Should you miss your reservation, you are called to the office to be bullied i nto a shakedown.
The room was quaint but when staff was asked to come back after 10AM to refresh the room, we were told. Nicht spater (Not later) and received no service. Had to request toilet tissue in the lobby.

The best thing about this place was its location! It was just a few metres from the Gallows Tower entry on the wall and within 5 minutes walk of restaurants etc. We thought the place was over priced given we'd stayed in a Novotel the previous two nights and it was substantially cheaper and of higher quality. Still, when you stay in a guest house full of character, I guess you have to pay for it. We didn't opt for breakfast because we figured €10 each would buy us a while lot more variety downtown.
The beds were super comfortable and the rooms warm but we found the heavy duvets too hot for the weather. We got caught in a sudden, very heavy downpour on our way back the first night, and our towels were not changed during our stay - despite being put on the floor.
The Gasthof offered free parking and the wifi was excellent.
As I said, great location, full of character, a bit over priced, but we enjoyed our stay.

Very nice, typical hotel for the region. Great location, right outside the city area. The bathroom was large, but it could use an update. The bed covers were way too warm for summer (feather...)...
I would stay there again, the only complaint is the price. It was overprized, but I guess this is what you pay in Rothenburg with lots of tourists. Just be aware, it is an older house and there is no elevator. If you are on the second or third floor you have to carry your suitcase over a pretty narrow, wooden staircase.

Awesome, friendly, accommodating place!

This was an amazing place to visit and the hotel owners were the greatest! There was some kind of mix up with our reservation and they did not show us arriving. They were kind enough to go out of their way and find us a secondary place to stay for a night while they made arrangements for us to return to their place the next day. The owners were so friendly and accommodating, you felt as though you were family. We love the large room and the comfortable beds. This place treated you like family from the moment you walked in to the moment you left. I would stay here again in the future. Everything about it and where it was located was A ++++.

A lovely place not to be missed!!

Stay in the hotel was good except the toilet seemed to have some smell. Those with heavy luggages, take heed because the hotel does not have any lifts! We had to lug our luggages up 2 flights of stairs.... If you pay a higher rate, you may get the lower floor. Hotel is very close to the wall gate and it was lovely taking a walk around the wall.

Enjoyed my night's stay at Gasthof Hotel Bezold. I was able to check in early, which was fantastic as carrying my heavy pack around was cumbersome. The woman I checked in with spoke enough English and I used my Google Translate to check in and discuss breakfast, which is provided.
The room was very clean and had a nice bed. The water in the bathroom was hot and the shower was amazing! GREAT water pressure! It's the little things ya know?
The hotel is walking distance from the train station and one of the many entrances to the walled city itself.
Breakfast the next day started at 8. It was all laid out by the time I got there at 8:05 - cereals, yogurt, meats and cheeses, different types of rolls, Nutella, fruit, juices, coffee, tea, milk, hard boiled eggs. There may have been more items that I'm forgetting.
I would stay here again.

Wasn't impressed when we walked in and were greated with a note and instructions to use the phone to call for someone to come to the reception desk. We got a room with two double beds on the top floor. The room was pretty cramped and it was a challenge to get our luggage up 3 flights of stairs. Breakfast wasn't included, which was a surprise we found out later (I checked the description and it clearly states breakfast is not included so no fault of theirs). At €10 per person, it wasn't worth it. Not the most pleasent interaction with staff. It was just ok. Would not go back.

The place is just outside the old walls to the city. The free breakfast is fantastic. The room we stayed in had very comfortable beds. The bathroom was spacious. The place has its own charm and is good value for the budget conscious traveller. There is no elevator and no a/c; however, we asked for and were provided a fan, which served the purpose.

Quaint Comfort close to historic area.

Quaint and fairly quiet neighborhood. Very close to grocery store too as well as pedestrian zone of historic town. Be sure to check in early since the front desk closes early. Family owned location. Breakfast was nice and filling. No air conditioning. The windows provide plenty of cross breeze. The bed is HARD. I slept on top of the comforter until it got too chilly in early morning. You can take a sheet with you for covering if you are too hot. The tub is deep for soaking away tired muscles from all the walking and shopping. Separate stand up shower was nice too. I would stay again if I was visiting at another time.

This is a small charming family owned hotel. It is located about 4 blocks from the train station, and one block from one of the entrances to the old city. The daily rate includes a generous, traditional Belgian breakfast. We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel.

Good location, non-existent service

Arrived to find nobody in the lobby and a sign in german saying to use the front desk phone to dial an extension for help. We called. No answer for over an hour. Eventually the owner showed up flustered, handed us keys and promptly disappeared again. In the room we found an un-maid bed with sheets waiting for us to make our own bed. The advertised wifi was unusable, with about 80% packet loss by the first hop. Even at checkout / breakfast the following day, we found no staff present so we eventually gave up left our keys on the front desk and left.

Comfortable Stay, 100 Yards from City Gate

We had a very comfortable stay at Gasthof Hotel Bezold. It's really more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel - but that was perfectly fine for us. I don't speak enough German, but the adorable owners were spoke just enough English we communicated quite well. This is not a brand new 5-star accommodation, but the furnishings were in good condition, the room was spacious, and breakfast was delicious and 100% German.

Our room was located just behind the main building in a charming yellow house (pictured) and was literally 100 yards from the northeastern gate of old Rothenburg. We'll be returning in the winter, and when we do, we'll stay at Gasthof Hotel Bezold.

Rosy atmosphere in a holiday town

The hotel is only a block away from one of the old-town gates, and easy to find with good onsite parking. We stayed in the rear building in a very large room, walking by the rose garden on our way in and out. The host was very cordial and attentive to our needs. The breakfast buffet served the usual variety one expects from a German gasthof along with the top notch quality. We would return to this hotel.

As pretty as the pictures!

The hotel and family staff are delightful. The pictures accurately portray the beautiful artistic exterior and interior of the hotel. The directed us to horse back riding nearby. The weather was a little drizzly and cloudy and not as conducive to hiking as we had hoped. They fixed a specially decorated table to help us celebrate our wedding anniversary and the food was outstanding -- creative, expertly presented and delicious. Wish we could have stayed a second night but they were booked up.

The rooms were small and a little dark -- but then it is wood paneling on all sides including the ceiling. The only negative was the fresh aroma of manure to fertilize either on the property or nearby.

Excellent Hotel

We stayed at Gasthof Hotel Bezold in Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber in May 2015. We have done a lot of travelling and we can honestly say this was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, rooms were very clean, and the breakfast was fantastic! This hotel was also in an excellent location, just beside the town walls so everything is within walking distance. We would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.

Charming Hotel

This hotel is less then a block from Rotenburg. Making it a very easy and convent walk to and from the walled city. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel had several charming touches and the price was reasonable. We will be happy to stay here again on our next trip to Rotenburg.

Just outside the city walls, but safe at night!

Hotel Bezold was a very nice hotel with a pleasant staff. It is just outside the city walls, but you will not need the nightwatchman to keep you safe. The hotel lived up to what was advertised and was a great place to spend a night. The toughest part was the parking. It was available and free, but it was very crowded and difficult to maneuver. I am glad I had a small car. The bed was nice; the bathroom small. The breakfast was your typical German breakfast and was filling. The dining area is quite spacious. A very cozy place to stay at one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

You must do the Nightwatchman tour!

With little kids

Comfortable hotel with plenty of space for family of four. Breakfast buffet was adequate. Outside of the wall but everything's within walking distance.

Family loved it

Family trip with our kids 12 and 15 we loved the place so much we changed our plans and stayed a few extra days. The hotel is small but great personal service and located 100 yards outside the gate to the old town. Awesome!
