Lots of staff but none of them know what they are doing.

Had spa appointments cancelled but didn’t tell me till I turned up. Food service takes forever. Rooms are not particularly clean.

Stayed at many places in Sri Lanka over 3 weeks and this was by far the worst.

This hotel is, at best, comparable to a 3–4 star property. It feels outdated and unclean, and the staff appear poorly trained—restaurant staff couldn’t even direct me to the restroom. They also do not offer lactose-free milk options such as oat or soy, and the restaurant manager confirmed they never have. It’s surprising and disappointing for any hotel claiming a 5-star rating.

The room itself was not properly cleaned, including the bedding. Having stayed at most of the other 5-star hotels in Sri Lanka, I found this one to be a significant letdown. I would encourage travelers to consider alternative accommodations

Stayed here for a week as a solo traveller. Good location. The hotel is comfortable and clean. The room I had overlooked the sea and had floor to ceiling windows. It was spotlessly clean. The cleaning staff were thorough. Plenty of towels, toiletries , water etc.
I ate in the main buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The choice was excellent, the food displays were beautiful and all of the staff were kind and helpful.
The coffee shop on the ground floor served good coffee and snacks.
All of the staff were friendly, efficient and kind.

The property is located in a pretty grubby area of Colombo (but, in truth, most of Colombo is grubby. Poverty is not pretty)
The hotel itself, although reasonably new is tired and worn and needs maintenance. (Not terrible but not 5 star)
The staff are very friendly and always smiling/chatty. That said, service is slow and erratic.
Dining is not great (Cold roast which was supposed to be hot as an example).
The best patisserie in the lobby. Lovely cakes and patisseries. You won't find a good cappuccino though.
Nice enough rooftop pool but again, not 5 star quality.

Would I stay here again? You bet.

Mövenpick stay was good. Hotel is efficient and clean. Phone system was not working, which made it difficult to contact front desk or room service for basic requests. Hotel did address this by providing WhatsApp contact information, but the connection was poor and I struggled to contact staff to make requests. On a few occasions, I had to just go down to the lobby to ask for water or place a room service order. Not ideal, but I assume this was a temporary issue.

I would stay here again, the rooms are very large, the views are amazing, and the restaurants are really really good (so good I almost didn't want to dine anywhere else in Colombo!).

The service from all the staff, cleanliness of hotel, quality of the food, the room sizes was all excellent. Great location, amazing infinity pool and gym. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and the staff were extremely helpful and very attentive. Tharun helped me alot to arrange my drivers each day also. Excellent friendly hotel and would 100% recomend to anyone looking to stay in Colombo.

The hotel & room were lovely, but it felt more like a business hotel than one for leisure. The foyer was very small and mostly taken up by a small cafe / ice cream parlour. We visited a lot of other hotels in the area and ours was the smallest foyer by far! The staff were very nice and the rooftop pool / bar great, with great views all around the hotel. The supermarket across the road is not what you would expect, but an adventure anyway!

Rooms very nice but service very amateur. Dozens of staff hanging around doing nothing in the lobby whilst 3 staff tried to do a breakfast that left food cold, orders not arriving and generally chaotic and substandard. Ten (yes really) bar staff also managed not to be remotely efficient although were pleasantly less than competent.
Fine for a short business stay if you aren’t going to be in the hotel much but plenty of much better hotels for holidaymakers in Colombo- go there

Food and service at the rooftop bar was subpar. Also, was given a smoking room even though I’d booked non-smoking. When they moved me it was to a different room type (city view rather than ocean view) even though I’d paid for the ocean view. My colleague had a suspected mouse visit the first night, so they moved him too.

Overall very satisfied with the very friendly and obliging service. The room was well lit and comfortable with all necessary amenities. The room and bathroom bathroom neat and clean by the housekeeping staff to mention in particular Tharindu & Ranga. The breakfast had a very good spread overseen by very efficient and friendly staff.
The hotel was is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Colombo with transport easily available.

Greetings.
1. For security reasons many hotels check the cars before coming in the hotel entrance and sometimes using dogs, that is perfectly alright, but bringing a dog to the reception for your guests that is inappropriate, the dog scared my daughter with it's barking. This is the first time I see a dog inside a hotel for reception.
Please let us know if this is your new rule in Movenpick.

2.When a guest pays extra money for accessing the lounge that's because he/she is expecting at least 3 meals, but offering only light meal during happy hours that is definitely not what the guest expects. At least mention this information in your booking page that lounge is only a happy hour to let the guest prepared without misleading information which is known in all hotels that lounge is 3 meals, including Movenpick hotels in other countries as I experienced some.

3.There are ants in the bathroom, if the staff know there is a problem with a room or a whole floor I suppose this floor should be excluded until your maintenance finishes. But letting your guest enjoying their stay with ants, I don't think this is accepted. The staff cleaned the bathroom quickly after informing them, the ants appeared again and I just knew the problem with the whole floor.
The staff are friendly and helpful but the problem with the room itself and they tried to find another room.

The room, although has blackout curtains let’s in a lot of light! At 6am, the room was lit. Other than that, staff is courteous, rooms are clean and comfortable, a little small for 2 people with large luggage. The restaurant Robata grill was terrible. We returned almost every single item we ordered save the edamame and miso soup. Their papaya salad, fried rice, noodles , even the prawn crackers were bad, everything sucked, was either tasteless or stale. Having said that, there are nicer restaurants in the area such as Nara Thai.

The hotel is modern and up to date. Rooms are large and well equiped and very comfortable. All the staff did everything they could to make our stay in Colombo as enjoyable as possible. The staff on the \"Guest Services\" desk were particularly helpful to us. The buffet breakfasts were splendid with all that anyone could wish for. We would certainly consider a stain the Movenpick again should we visit Colombo again.

Upside: Great location, spacious room, friendly and attentive staff who do their best. Excellent fusion restaurant. Downside: sea view is just a glimmer behind several huge new hotel building projects, pool area for sunbathing is cramp, breakfast buffet is great but staff can’t keep up with the number of guests. In summary, fine if the price is right, but book a room at the back where the rooms have a more interesting view and don’t expect the usual Movenpick standard.

An amazing hotel at the end of our 1 month trip around sri lanka. Everything beautiful. Couldnt ask for more. Buffet was incredible, so many choices from every country and still our kids chose the Hoppas. Really loved everything about Sri Lanka and this hotel ended our holiday in the most amazing way. We arrived very early and they managed to sort us a room out nearly straight away they also upgraded us to a junior suite which was the perfect treat as it was my partners 30th birthday. Excellent property with best rooms. Hotel is quite new and I am staying here since it is opened. Lobby area is small however rooms are great and style is amazing. They give me check in at 10 in the morning that was great and also entertained me till 2 pm at check out. Food is great however a lit bit spicy at the buffet lunch. Rooftar bar and pool is another amazing thing. Will again stay here and also will recommend to everyone.

The hotel is centrally located and close to lots of restaurants, the train station and the shopping mall. The hotel has an amazing roof top pool, probably the best in colombo. The hotel is clean and tidy.
The only two things the hotel needs to improve on is the air conditioning in the room. It is terrible and not modern. Takes forever for the room to cool down and it’s not friendly to use. Also certain members of staff need to improve on greeting and smiling. Overall hotel is good.

We had 2 separate bookings as we booked with hotels.com 1 night and with movenpick the other. Would have been nice if they told us at check in our bookings couldn't be linked and had to get new keys on the second night.
Couldn't order a bottle of wine on room service so had to go to the bar to order. That's ok. But took 30 mins to get my wine as they wouldn't let me take it to the room after I ordered. Despite this everything was excellent. Staff v friendly. Hotel immaculate, good room size and good location

Not Luxury, Felt like an Ibis with Rooftop Pool

The first sign of trouble was when I arrived at 1pm and I was told check in was not until 2pm so I would have to wait unless I upgraded to seaview room (which is being blocked by new buildings anyway). This is not the typical rigidity found in luxury hotels but I was fine with it. The room design was that of a budget hotel, beds located just next to the entry door instead of seperated by bathroom (which typically decreases the chance of noise disturbance from hallway). Bathrooms are instead located to the side of the room (in all rooms) Furthermore, the room they gave me would not cool to less than 25 degrees and it took 2 hours and half a dozen phone calls to finally change rooms. The new room would not get below 22 (74F) degrees even though I had it set to 19 (66). The engineer said this was normal. I was not comfortable at this hotel at all and it ruined 1 of my 3 days in Sri Lanka. The insulation of the windows is poor and allows a lot of traffic noise (sirens and horns) in. The elevators are so busy they stop on almost every floor going up and down. I cant believe this hotel was the same price as the Taj, as that hotel was 100 times better. If you’re booking this for the rooftop pool, just go there for a drink or food and stay at an actual luxury hotel. If you pay more than $100 for this hotel (including taxes) you will be seriously disappinted.
